Absolutely bomb shrimp burrito! Didn't even realize that was Las Cotijas' claim to fame until I saw it printed on my (also delicious) cup of horchata. Delicious sauce and didn't skimp on the shrimp. Great and friendly customer service (and handsome too, the day I went)! They were giving out free Halloween candy when I went too.. they even told me to take more then one - It's the little things. 5 stars for this lil place. One note: no bathrooms when I went because they seem to be under construction. Ended up washing my hands with a lot of my sanitizer and napkins. Wouldn't let that affect my review though. Stopped in for breakfast before hiking up Cowles. We loved the huevos Mexicana and there was more than enough to share 1 order. Service was friendly and fast. Inside dining is cute and clean. Bathroom out back is nice but needed resupply and refresh on this Sunday AM. We plan to make Cotija's a regular stop when we are out that way for a hike. read more

Best bets include soft tacos - pollo asada, carne asada, carnitas, or fish -- rolled tacos (ask for "dorado") -- quesadillas -- bean tostadas, and burritos (they're huge). This place just wasn't that good. Plain and simple. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good. It was priced like an upscale burrito place but tasted like a hole in the wall. Very greasy, lacking flavor or any zing. What kept it from only one star was that it was a pretty big burrito and they had a really good salsa bar with multiple sauces that were all pretty good. I am not very diverse in what I order, so this review is based solely on the bean and cheese burritos. (That's all I ever order. Lame, I know...) NI like a good bean and cheese burrito for myself, and Cotijas delivers. Sometimes the beans can be on the salty side (which is why I docked it one star), but they have perfected the mixture of beans and cheese inside a fluffy flour tortilla. Also, I love, love, love the green mild sauce they have inside. It has to be one of my favorite sauces of all-time. Maybe I am not that cultured, but that stuff rocks. My boyfriend orders multiple items off their menu and is pleased each time. Only once has he not enjoyed his dish, but I can't remember what he ordered at that time. With age comes memory loss... I am and will continue to frequent Cotijas and encourage others to try it out. read more

Top notch for the refried beans! These babies were fresh & hot! Taco plate #5 wAs good; the beef taco meaty was juicy & flavorful. The teenagers that were with me ordered carne asada tacos and burritos- all said their meals was great. Only downfall were the salsas @salsa var were bland. My family and I have been coming here for literally decades and the prices now are as much if we went to a sit down restaurant such as Mariettas which is A dining restaurant in Santee. The staff acts as if there forced to be there every day 365 days a year. They do not smile or interact with there customers let alone show like they are happy working there. Every time we have came here at least once a week getting the same things and every time 5-10 extra dollars not counted for. This used to be a really good place to go but since the pandemic it's gone down hill fast. read more

This place is tiny and a little dirty looking but the service is quick and food is good. A walk up widow awaits you. I've been eating Cotija's all around SD and it never fails me. I love this place! Cotijas is second to Cazadores in my opinion. The quesadillas are huge and always hot and delicious. The beans and cheese are always yummy, never cold or tasting like day-olds. The thing to get here is the rolled tacos. They are much better here than most other places. read more

I always prefer coming to this location compared to any of the other ones because there is always plenty of space for seating, friendly staff, and really good food! Cotija has amazing guacamole mixed with sour cream and it honestly makes all of their food so much better. I definitely recommend getting the rolled tacos with sour cream, they are made fresh and come loaded with guacamole, lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes and I really like the mix of cold cheese and guacamole with warm rolled tacos. My mom and I usually get five rolled tacos and a burrito as well to share and it is plenty of food. This time, we got the mixed shredded beef burrito and it was amazing! You can choose between shredded beef or chicken, and the burrito is mixed with meat, beans, and I added the sour cream guacamole and it is so good. I definitely recommend using the red salsa they give you because it has a lot of flavor and just the right amount of spice. read more

Been going here since I was a kid and never had a bad experience until now. Got a takeout order last night and when I got home I realized they gave me the wrong burrito. Like any normal human being, I let it go because I'm not gonna drive back at this point. I pass by here on my way home from work, so I figured if I come by and let them know what happened, they'd act in good faith and make it right. The girl I spoke with (who in fact was the same girl that not only took the order but also put the food in the bag and handed it to me) tells me that if I didn't call and let someone know right then so that they can note it, they can't just "give away food". Excuse me? I'm not asking you to give away food. I'm asking you to give me the burrito I paid for and didn't get. I go here all the time, but I can't imagine ever going back after basically being accused of lying and trying to score free food like a homeless person. Learn how to treat loyal customers moron.
