I've been to Cotton Patch before, both at this location and others, and the food has always been decent, if not special. But today I was served what may be the worst chicken & dumplings I've ever had. This was surprising since I think I've had them here before and they were acceptable. But these were served in a thin, watery soup instead of the thick, creamy broth that you expect to have with chicken & dumplings. The dumplings themselves were chewy and flavorless, and the chicken looked like nothing but boiled and chopped up chicken thighs that were also tough and chewy. Nothing was flavored at all, even with salt & pepper. I sent it back and only ate the skillet cornbread that I'd ordered, which was okay, but a little dry and stuck to the skillet. The food is fine but nothing spectacular. It's the employees that make this place. The server, a younger white female, was attentive, personable, and polite. The manager, a black male, was amazing. He came over to ask how my visit was, asked if he could do anything to help, and then I watched him interact and laugh with other guests as well as help seat patrons. When I went to find him at the end of my meal to tell him that he was doing a great job, I was told that he ran to the grocery store to get some fresh vegetables. Literally was coated in melted styrofoam and the chicken that was saved was so dry it was inedible. I don't know who puts sugar in green beans but it was so bad even my dog wouldn't eat it. Husband said his steak was cold a rubbery just like the sautéed mushrooms he got. Only thing that came out was the baked potatoes and honestly I'm surprised they were ok. Went with my wife and her mom. We had been here before and it was good. However this time was highly disappointing. We ordered raspberry tea and there was no hint of raspberry in it. We ordered and 50 minutes later our food arrived. Mom had ordered potato soup and it was so bland. No flavor. My wife ordered catfish and sweet potato fries and they were practically burnt. Very very overcooked. I had the pecan toasted catfish and it was decent. Maybe we hit them on a bad day. But we are not planning on going back anytime soon. read more

I have eaten here 15+ times. And I must say after this experience I will NEVER go back. I ordered food for my family of 5. Only the kids' meals were correct. But how hard is chicken strips and fries... The real issue is the fact that they decided instead of taking the time to cook bacon for my salad they would empty the catch tray from the grill into my dinner. There's charred bacon slivers and rock hard bits everywhere. I call up there and get told "if it's any consolation we're slammed, that's no excuse but..." he offers me a free salad. After I spent 10 more minutes digging as many charred rocks out of my salad as possible so I could finally eat with my family the salad was SOOO spicy that I couldn't eat it. So I call back up there, wait 10 minutes on hold, and then get told that the dressing has jalapeños in it. Since when does avocado ranch have jalapeños in it?! There weren't any jalapeño pieces in that dressing. Plus I've eaten this exact salad every time I have ever gone here. It's never been spicy. So... they dumped the grill catch into my salad and then poured jalapeño juice onto it. I hope they read this and fire whomever was in the kitchen. No one should be treated this way. They can keep their free salad. But wait... that's not all... my husbands Chicken Fried Steak was so tough he couldn't chew it and they gave him a tiny cup of gravy, when I ordered 2 large cups of gravy. I highly recommend going across the street to Panera, you're welcome. Edit: I was wrong. Their avocado ranch dressing does come with jalapeño in it. So it wasn't bad and it wasn't great overall. The staff was really nice. Helpful, fast, noticed when you were low on drinks, etc. It was moderately busy, so the server was hustling. The rolls, fried tomatoes, and catfish were very good. The cooked veggie sides were not. (I'm not a fan of canned green beans, no matter what you do to them.) Salad was generous and fresh. I think I would have preferred coleslaw to greenbeans with catfish. Anyway, it was a toss up. I'd go back with a coupon but not full price. read more

I have never not tipped before in my life, but the service here was so terrible and slow. There were only 4 people in the restaurant and everything took extremely long. My steak was fatty and just overall gross they also discontinued so many things that were still on the menu. I have a problem with any place that offers curbside service, but takes their own sweet time preparing the order. I arrived to pick up my order at the time they specified, and as I write this it is 20 minutes late. I don't think it's an issue with a rush on any given day, because this is not the first time that I have ended up having to wait for a long time for my order to come out. It seems that this is a regular problem with this location, and hopefully I will remember this experience next time and will choose to go somewhere else. I understand that the way businesses have to operate has changed since the pandemic, but they have had plenty of time to adjust. I have seen other local businesses do much better. I would not be surprised if this location eventually closed down. It's an awful shame, because the food in general is pretty good. It's the service that is greatly lacking. I gave them four stars. The first time we went, there were several people complaining, the restaurant was packed and understaffed. We spoke with the manager, she apologized and asked that we give it another try. I explained that our food and service were fine and understood the situation. My girlfriend and I ordered through Uber eats and we had a list of problems when we got our food. We were missing the gravy for both our chicken fried steaks, which eating them without gravy is a no go so I called to speak with the employee at Cotton Patch. When I told him we were missing the gravy on the meals (this employee had also asked us if we wanted jalapeño gravy while we were placing the order) he proceeded to tell me that the reason we were missing it was because the kitchen threw it out so they could leave early. We placed the order at 9:00 pm and picked it up at 9:45 pm, which left enough time fo make gravy even if they were out of it. There was absolutely no excuse for an employee to tell a customer that the kitchen decided that it's more important to go home than complete a customers order. My girlfriend and I were so upset that we had to go to Whataburger to get a side of gravy for our meals. The only person that seems to care about the standards of the restaurant is the manager who was very apologetic for the way the staff handled the issue, and offered us a free meal to makeup for the problems. That leads us to today which was another bad experience due to more employees who just don't care about doing a good job. Every time an employee gives attitude and is rude to a customer it gives the restaurant a bad look, and this is one thing the employees will consistently do right. Not only that but there were uncooked fries in our beans, how do you manage to get uncooked fries into a togo container of beans and then proceed to let the customer have them. The management seriously needs to take a look at who they have working in this location because at this rate they will turn all the customers away. read more

He was the sweetest, most respectful, attentive, friendliest waiter! Nice location. Super clean restaurant. I loved the shirts that they wear. Excellent service. However, I ordered two Chicken fried steak dinners and I thought that they didn't have enough flavor. It was just bland. It looked good but in my opinion it lacked FLAVOR. The color was great, temperature of food was nice and hot. I ordered to go and they did pack it nicely in the brown bags, they included the napkins, and everything. However, the cornbread was good. I like it but I just didn't like the below average taste. The meat was not that good of quality either. I think that it needed to taste much better. My suggestion is that they go and taste other places Chicken Fried Steak and try to put theirs on the same level or above: Babe's, Old West Cafe, Cracker Barrell, Outback, RoadHouse, Luby's. I'm an chicken Fried Steak enthusiast and I think that those other places have really good Chicken Fried Steak. Cotton Patch does not measure up but everything else was good. Their iced tea was very good. But I can make my own iced tea. No flavor. No spices that I could taste. It didn't taste like much of nothing except that nautious feeling you get when you know you've wasted money and should have gone some place you are familiar with. But I always like to try new places. Came here on the evening of 5/26. We came in 30 minutes before closing and asked if it were okay to still come for dinner, the woman at the host stand was polite and said absolutely. We were the last table of the night. Our waitress was very tentative, put up with my spouses crazy "humor", overall she made sure we were a top priority. The food was hot and fresh, we didn't feel like we were eating the end of the night leftovers at all. My spouse asked for desert after 10pm and she went and asked her manager if it were okay, then came his desert. This waitress is a keeper, best waitress I've seen in a college town in several years and there's no exaggeration there! The manager was also fantastic. What managers should be. I did not speak to her, but I did observe her. She politely reminded her staff to not be on phones during end of night chores. She checked their work with a flash light to guarantee cleanliness. Our family of four used to enjoy our Sunday dinners at Cotton Patch. Then Covid hit, things were a little rocky and okay we can use Covid as the excuse, but now Texas is opening back up and things are slowly returning to normal, well except for the Cotton Patch, to start with what on earth would you get rid of the turkey and dressing dinners? Half of our visits we were told they were out of turkeys and dressing, so they get rid of it all together and now is chicken and dressing. The service is very slow, with very few customers and employees standing around it really looks like the service would improve, not so, after waiting 10 minutes to get our drink order in, we placed our food order, ten more minutes go by before we get our drinks and were told the hit rolls were coming out. Ten more minutes go by she comes back as says they only have enough French Fries for one order, and asked if we'd like a different side order on the other meal, I said well yes what's the choices? So she has to go get a menu to read me the options, but apparently thought I could just pull one out of memory, all the other potato options were available just no fries really? So we made a decision and I asked about the hot rolls, the reply was they're just coming out of the oven. The food was good, even the substituted sweet potato fries were really good! But, the past three visits have been the same slow poor service, Cotton Patch you got one more chance, if things don't improve I'll be taking my family elsewhere for Sunday dinners. read more

First time visiting this restaurant. The food was fair. The salad was cold and fresh and honey mustard dressing was good. That is the only good thing about our meal. Our table was dirty with crumbs and a smear of dried soup. The employees are all young and inexperienced. The rest of our food was as follows: the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes were not hot, the cream gravy tasted like paste. The fried green tomatoes had no flavor and the breading was very thick. The cheese potato soup was lukewarm and VERY salty, I could not eat more than two bites of it. My curbside pickup experience at the Denton Cafe showcased as a total failure. After all was said and done, I left feedback the night I was supposed to receive my order with expectations I would receive a response back and a refund. One week later with no response and no refund: Here I am. I submitted my order for curbside pick up and arrived on time notifying my arrival. 20 minutes later, no food. Seeing workers working inside, I call the store direct with no answer. All the while, several other patrons arrive, go to the pick up door and knock, only to be ignored and finally drive off. One finally gets in the door as two workers exit to leave. I follow in only to get an explanation after seeing my order number and pick up time they do not know what happened and offered the explanation an Uber driver must have mistakenly taken it for delivery. (I checked in upon arrival. Why was I ignored in the first place?) A worker took my order number and said he would ensure I would be refunded. This service team at the Denton location failed to acknowledge customers sitting in their cars waiting, ignored knocks at the To Go service door, and offered a failed resolution when I finally spoke with someone. My prior dine in experiences have been good, and the food has been great at this location from prior visits. Being forced to call the corporate office directly to get my refund makes me question a future visit to any Cotton Patch location. read more
