I heard this place was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and the photos on Yelp looks great, so I decided to check it out. Cute spot that appears to be in downtown Forth Worth for a while. There's plenty of seating and this place almost reminds me of an antique shop. People like to come here for lunch. The servers are really friendly and personable. Menus are conveniently at the table long with a big bottle of hot sauce. I decided to get a plate of 2 piece dark meat with a side of mac and cheese and seasoned fries. The chicken was very crispy, and I thought it could use a little bit more flavor. Also, it seemed like the chicken was overcooked. I couldn't open the chicken with a fork and knife and had to use my hands. My thoughts on the chicken were just okay. The mac and cheese were delicious, and the fries were nicely seasoned.

Recommended by a patient at work and I went after work to check it out and man I'm glad I did. They were packed and liked 5 people were waiting for to go orders. I walked in and ordered and it took less than 20 minutes to get my food. The chicken was so flavorful, juicy and just the right amount of spice. The Mac and cheese, greens and fried okra was all great. The greens needed a tad more salt but other than that it was all fantastic.

See the picture of that chicken? Any questions? Ah, I didn't think so. Gus's is probably the absolute best fried chicken. And I've had fried chicken at more places than (5) average people combined!

Forgot to check in but here we are making a review. Ordered their wing special. We sat at the bar for faster service but really never had a problem even having sat at the regular table. It was somewhat busy today due to Arts Goggle going right outside. It's a fairly great chicken but wished their pieces are a little bigger. This may be the smallest pieces of chicken I've had. Nonetheless, it's still one of the faves.

Chicken is brined and you can tell. The skin is nice and greens were better than most places that let the greens get mushy. Atmosphere was ok - might try another location. Nothing really made me want to come back but it was good.

We were in Fort Worth for an errand, and I'll take any excuse to turn a trip into a fun lunch adventure. Today's pick was this spot, and let me tell you--it did not disappoint! The surrounding neighborhood was great for a little post-lunch stroll, and the restaurant itself was clean, well-staffed, and had an overall welcoming vibe. The employees actually looked happy to be there, which usually means the place is run well--always a good sign! If fried green tomatoes are on a menu, I will attempt to order them. Hubby, however, is not as easily convinced. It's a battle I lose more often than I win, but today? Victory! And these were totally worth it--crispy, well-seasoned, and a great start to the meal. We also split the fried chicken plate, which comes with two pieces and two sides. The chicken is fried to order, so it arrived piping hot and perfectly spicy. As for sides--GET. THE. MAC. AND. CHEESE. Seriously, it was the star of the show. The coleslaw was solid too, but let's just say we were not fighting over that. The mac and cheese, on the other hand? A full-on fork battle for every last bite. Great food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere--we'll definitely be back!

    3 Piece White Plate

My daughter and I visited here for the first time while on a short mother/daughter trip to Austin. Fried chicken was pretty good. I had the 3 piece white meat (2 breast/1 wing), she had the catfish. Chicken has just a little kick of seasoned heat but nothing that will cause you to reach for your drink. Catfish crispy on the outside but not as done on the inside. My sides were the slaw and baked beans. The slaw was descent, but I did not care for the beans at all. My daughter had the greens which were a no hitter for her. Bottom line, order the chicken without the sides.

4 piece wing, Mac n cheese, fries

Let me get straight to the point--my experience at Gus's Famous Fried Chicken was frustrating and disappointing. I ordered the 4-piece wing special with mac and cheese and fries. But before I even got to the food, I witnessed something that really turned my stomach. One of the employees, wearing gloves, rubbed his nose multiple times--then continued handling food without changing gloves. I voiced my concern to another staff member, who did go speak to him. But instead of taking accountability, the employee walked by the food prep area and slapped his dirty gloves down on the counter where food was being sent out. It was careless and unhygienic, and it took away any appetite I had. As for the food: Fries: Plain, underseasoned, and forgettable. Honestly, I could've made better fries at home with a frozen bag and an air fryer. 1 out of 5. Mac & Cheese: It tasted like a mix of Kraft and homemade, but with almost no seasoning outside of what looked like paprika on top. Just bland. 2 out of 5. Chicken: The seasoning was completely off incredibly salty to the point where it was hard to eat. Not sure if it was a one-off issue, but it didn't leave a good impression. 2 out of 5. Between the lack of basic hygiene and the underwhelming food, I left disappointed and unlikely to return. This experience fell far short of what I expected from a place that calls itself "famous."

Now I like fried chicken but this is out of this world delicious. Just the right amount of spice. Had 2 pieces of dark and got the coleslaw and potato salad - all of it excellent. The joint is average on a great street - Magnolia. The coconut pie is what put this over the top - man that was good. Selection of drinks and service is solid. Will make this a regular stop.

Good food! I will say the Mac wasn't all that. Chicken was very good. I think next time I'll just get a bunch of chicken. Will come back next time I'm craving crispy chicken

I've been coming here for many years and the food and service are always a 10/10. I usually order the three-piece (one leg, two thighs) with coleslaw and mac & cheese--both are a must. Typically comes with sweet beans and potato salad, which are great too but I like to substitute the sides with Mac and cheese and the Coleslaw. The fried chicken always comes out hot, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The pieces are a good size and always leave you full and satisfied.

The restaurant is loud s, not a place for intense conversations. However the fried chicken is phenomenal! You will not be disappointed. The macaroni and cheese was worth the $.50 substitution charge. The service here is friendly and they have quite a few beers for drink options.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

Is the chicken spicy hot like cayenne pepper, hot sauce hot? Or is hot refer to temperature and spicy refer to flavorful?

It was very flavorful and it did have a kick to it. Can't explain the kick but my wife was able to handle it and not really be uncomfortable with it. Darn good chicken I must say. Next time we will eat it there because we got there before closing…

The Dallas Deep Ellum location was supposed to open late summer 2019. We're in January. Does anyone have an update on this?

From one of the owners - Dallas' permitting process was much slower than anticipated. Permits were received this week (1/6/2020). Construction will begin in the next couple of days. Current anticipated opening is June 1st, but they really hope it…

Is the deep Ellum location still in the works? 🙏🏼

It sure is! Should be open around June. Look forward to seeing you there.

Are the greens fresh or are they canned or frozen?

Fresh! They do not serve anything not made in-house.

Do you just have regular fried chicken. Or is it hot and spicy?

The chicken is spicy (about a 7, on a scale of 10), the tenders are less spicy (about a 4). No regular fried chicken without the spicy flavor! If you can handle the heat, it is OH SO GOOD!

Based on some reviews, I heard the line to order can get pretty long and I'm glad I did, because the place was packed. My order was ready at the pickup time and was well packed. There is some searing inside, but you would need to get there early to grab a table. My sister and decided to split 2 wraps so we could try more items from the menu. We ordered the mexcrunch wrap and the buffalo chicken wrap. I like how the salads can be made into wraps, which provides more options. I think we both preferred the mexcrunch, simply due to the crunchy texture. I think both wraps would have been better if we could've had the sauce on the side, because the wraps got soggy pretty quickly. The side pasta salad was surprisingly really good, and I see why they serve it. Overall, I'd definitely go back here for a healthy lunch option.

Finallllllly! A soul food vegan eatery with mush mush flavor!…read more So, hubbs and I were hungry and decided to give Mush Flavor a try. Boy aren't I glad we did. For more details see below. The location: this location is a part of a ghost kitchen. It is located in the corner of a small parking lot. You'll see plenty of food delivery signs above a building...that's the building you want to order from. The interior was just a box room, with a couple of chairs and an Ipad to order from. The service: so, apparently there's normally a receptionist or a welcomer who greets you, but there was noone there the day that we visited. It left us kind of guessing. However, two of the owners came out and made sure they checked in on customers to make sure everyone was taken care of. That was nice. They kept up updated on our order and what was going on in the kitchen. I appreciated that service and updates. The food: the food was goodt! Okay, so the mac n cheese was good. So, I'm not a cheese person. However, their Mac n cheese could've have used some more cheese. Now the actually macaroni was cooked to perfection though. The macaroni really good. The overall, mac n cheese just could've have had a little bit more flavor/cheese. The chicken! OMG the chicken was everything. It had a very bold flavor of spices. The chicken was crispy enough, but not too crispy. It wasn't mushy but was firm. I wish I would've mixed my macaroni n cheese and my chicken together. However that chicken was gobbled up so fast. Overall, I wish the ghost kitchen was a little more welcoming. However the flavor was delicious and I'd definitely be back to try more menu items.

So this place is a compilation of restaurants in one space that you can't see. There's just a receptionist desk to receive your order. It takes the personal aspect away it feels cold and soulless to just not talk to anyone but I guess that's the way the world is going. Some of the business owners did peek their heads out and greet us and they were nice but then went back to prepping and cooking their orders. There's no music or entertainment or anything just a waiting room with nothing in it but a bathroom. I get it you get the benefit of starting a restaurant without being in your house you have a nice clean place to cook and serve orders and your overhead is extremely low. It's a great start to businesses but it's very impersonal. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese. I feel like this meal should not have been 30 bucks especially with the money that's saved from not having a stand alone restaurant with employees like cooks, hostess, bus boys and managers. My chicken was really good the seasoning was on point and delicious. The waffle was soggy and soft but I think a lot of people like their waffle that way I prefer a crispy waffle. I'm sure they could easily make it that way but you can't freaking talk to anyone to communicate that request, so you get whatever the computer tells you you can get. The Mac and cheese was ok it could have been cheesier and more creamy I added some non vegan ingredients to get it the way I like it but I have cooked vegan Mac and cheese dishes that had more of a consistency of vegan cheese and noodles. It's good has potential it just needs more love. It wasn't worth 5 bucks though since I had to add to it. So to be honest my 4 stars come from the fact that this is a good business with friendly service. It has great potential and I want to see them succeed since it's a BOB. As a whole I am not a fan of this order from an iPad then wait for your food and not talk to anyone concept. The concept gets 2 stars because it sucks.
