Goosewing is a nature preserve and has a beautiful shoreline with clean clear rolling waves. The view is spectacular and you certainly feel you are on the edge of land facing the big open ocean. Parking is not cheap, but it was worth every penny. The beach was not full, I found a place away from the groups and unpacked my sandwich. I was bringing my lunch up to my mouth and suddenly I had half a sandwich in my hand and the other half was already in the gullet of a sea gull! I am Savvy, I am aware of gull habits, but this one set a new high bar. I had to laugh, the gull was surprised to find itself with a beak full of veggies. Needless to say said gull stood staring at me while I finished what remnants it left me.

That is a bonus! Two Lobster Rolls for $29. is incredible. My SIL said they were excellent: a generous amount of lobster on a toasted roll. You know the lobster is fresh because you are in Galilee where the fishing boats dock. Great beach plus food a few feet from the beach is a win-win. From the beach, you can see the Block Island Ferry, commercial fishing boats, and sightseeing tour boats as they enter the port of Galilee. Like some other beach clubs that I have visited, the general public is not allowed entry through the front gate unless someone sponsors you as a guest. I actually think that it keeps the atmosphere peaceful and relaxed with that type of guest control. Up until last summer, my father's family owned a house on the beach here, had a family membership that we all could enjoy and we strolled our guests beachside into the exclusive private club beach area. However, there is a small parking lot about a quarter mile up that has about five parking spots. Follow Acoaxet Road as if you were going to drive into the ocean. If you snag a spot, you can clamber over some rocks, walk to the right a few yards down to the beach club area and be treated to some truly unspoiled beach-going. The sand is unreal, sea glass amazing and the waters are crystal clear. The body surfing (or body boarding) here rocks!! If you go to the left of the parking lot, you can find the ruins of some of the mansions that were swept away in the 1938 hurricane. Only the staircases remain. Very cool. The beach club has the only restroom facilities. You can totally saunter up to use the lav (women to the left and men to the right) if you make it look like you know what you're doing. Phone service (all carriers) and GPS is spotty, at best, down here. One of the few times you might actually want to print a map. Great roads for road biking. It is truly pristine here.

The town beach has a nice bathroom/shower area that closes at 5- but it's really nice & they offer free sunscreen (was empty)! They have Del's (thankfully) posted up on the corner which is nice & you can also order from a few nearby restaurants however we brought a cooler so I just grabbed us 3 small watermelon dels when we needed to cool down. The water was beautiful I am talking turquoise in areas & so refreshing- NO RED TIDE (which has literally been at nearly every single beach I've gone to this summer) and the rocks weren't as bad as the other beaches- so that's a plus! They're a private town beach- think very similar to Narragansett Beach- but instead of a cove you get the real deal ocean! They're a also an amazingly easy way to get to this beach- if you're from Northern RI- like I am- BACK ROADS & the ride was pretty amazing although not from my 6 year old's standpoint! The surf was a little rough- hence the red flag- but the way this beach is set up- you can easily watch your kids while they dig in the sand or play in the water! The sand was soft and perfect for kids! My son had a blast! Overall I was amazed at the cleanliness and simplicity of this small town beach & it could be my new favorite - in terms of beaches I go to. We will be back on the 25th and 26th of August as we rented a Cabin At Burlinggame camp ground- as one last hoorah for my son! Can't wait to come back!
