Very sad worn out place with very very overpriced limited menu. 40 or 50 years ago it probably was cool place but it poorly lit, dreary, and depressing. Yes, it has a fireplace, so what! You needed your coat on! The prices are truly absurdly high. This is a total bad choice even for fabulous food which it is not. Example: a tiny thin supposed 4 ounce "steak" was $32! Although it feels like you're driving up to someone's house, once you pass through the door, you're greeted with a charming, cozy ambience that includes two fireplaces. Our server, Steve, was friendly and attentive. At one point he alerted us that two deer were grazing right outside the glass patio door. I was able to snap some photos of them. The free bread was soft and warm. The house-made balsamic salad dressing was flavorful. I ordered fish and it was the first time I had fish in the Pittsburgh area that wasn't overcooked. Seated by the fireplace, place to ourselves...it was amazing. Go early! We had the seafood platter and the surf n turf. Everything was delicious. I've never had lobster like this before. The restaurant is up a steep driveway off Route 65 just past Emsworth if you're heading away from town. We started coming here 3 years ago after friends suggested it. The ambiance is very old school, not anything special. But the food is really good. My partner says it's the best Chicken Piccata he's ever had! I have tried lamb, scallops, salmon, and filet. Most items are easily done gluten free except pasta. I have never been disappointed. They take reservations by phone and can accommodate larger groups. One of the best things - you can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee. The bar is cozy and has a good bartender. You can eat there if you choose. Give it a try. This place is a hidden gem. A friend was visiting from out of town and while driving down Rt.65 he spotted the sign. We looked it up and he said he had to go there for the Oysters. We went tonight at 7:00 and were treated to a great meal. They have a regular menu and a "lite fare" menu. The lite fare menu offers an appetizer & soup & salad, dinner, rolls with butter and dessert. The portions themselves are smaller, but the quality of the food is so good that larger portions are not needed. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone. I had an iced tea and it was reasonably priced at $2.00 and included refills. The fresh baked rolls were delicious. Homemade salad dressing was excellent. I had the deep fried cheesecake which was also excellent. I will definitely be going back, now that I have discovered this place. Days and hours are limited, so plan ahead. read more

We had a much better experience on our last visit. The menu was limited. I assume because of COVID. We sat on the patio which was nice! We had the fried mozzarella and Cajun shrimp as appetizers this trip. The mozzarella was great! The shrimp was ok but there was not anything Cajun about it. There were only two servers for the patio and inside. They seemed overwhelmed. My husband ordered scotch and they returned several times to ask him about types and years and when they finally brought it out it was on the rocks and he had ordered it neat. My experience is more positive than other reviewers. I was there with a group of 25. The restaurant was closed for us. The available light fare choices were selected in advance by our host. I chose filet mignon and for dessert creme brulee. Accompany the meal was my diet Pepsi, rolls, pasta, vegetable soup, garden salad and baked potato with butter and sour cream. Even with smaller servings, there was way too much food to eat at a sitting so after a bite, the steak and potato were taken home.The steak was perfectly cooked and tender with a nice flavor. The baked potato had a salt coating which now that I was home, I could pick up with my fingers and eat. Service was friendly and not rushed. My creme brulee was appropriately hot and cold and had that nice crunch. I was pleased with my selection. My friend selected fettuccine alfredo. That looked good. Now you will take your life in your hand entering and leaving. Not much room for error on Ohio River Boulevard. The drive in is STEEP. Plenty of parking and handicapped accessible. This place is a total disappointment. We went there on a Friday evening. I was concerned about crowds so I called for a reservation the day before and was surprised I got a table so quickly. Upon arrival I say the reason for the ease. Maybe only 4 tables at best were filled. The place was basically empty. Should have been a sign to me. We had a pleasant enough experience at the bar. But, the bar has a fairly limited selection with fairly untalented bartenders. Upon seating the service was terrible. Basically absent. There were o my 3 tables full and it took us maybe 20 minutes to wait until a server even showed up, we then received menus and had to wait for maybe another 20 minutes until the server came back for our orders.... I was considering paying the bat bill and leaving due to absent service. Then we ordered and the wait was equally long. When the food came, the meal was unimpressive and way overpriced. The salad had lettuce and maybe 2 cherry tomatoes. Very weak. The main course was equally as weak. I can attest that Olive Garden's meals are far superior at 1/3 the price. I have eaten at far superior places for less money and better and more prompt service. I will not return to this place. read more

We had the most amazing dinner here tonight and I already cannot wait to return. I read on the other reviews that they do valet service here, but when we arrived it was just a normal parking lot and we parked our own car so I'm not sure if that is just a weekend thing or not. The restaurant is inside an old house so don't be turned away if you think you're approaching someone's driveway; that's the place! When we arrived, we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp with mashed potatoes. It was amazing. The rest of my family ordered steak and they said it was the best steak they've ever had. They also bring out complimentary rolls that are so so so good. I suggest the lite fair menu if you can't eat a huge portion because believe me when I tell you a dinner is enough to feed multiple people. Now they did forget to put in one of our orders but I'm not blaming them them, we were there celebrating my father and my uncles birthday and we were probably a lot to handle! I checked this place out with a friend yesterday. It has an eclectic ambiance that could use some updating. The chairs at our table were very mid-century and reminiscent of a 1960s kitchen table. The dining area is paneled with a nice fireplace with views of the river (the frequent trains that buzz by do break the mood and I wish there was some nice quiet jazz playing to off-set that). The faux brick wall in the main dining room and the very weird bluish wallpaper in the adjacent dining area looks dated and cheap. However, the family photos are a nice touch. There's a tiny bar if you don't want to eat in the dining room, but the vibe is a little odd. It's bright and dated. The food is solid. I had the chicken piccata with mashed potatoes and the stuffed cabbage soup. The portion was decent but not huge. My companion had the petite filet mignon and crab cake with zucchini. The crab cake looked pretty decent and the steak was cooked perfectly. The veggies weren't overdone. We shared oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer. They were tasty but nothing to write home to mother about. The most disappointing part of the meal was the creme brûlée. The texture was all wrong and the sugar wasn't brûléed properly. Also, our server, while attentive and professional, was rather distracted and clumsy. But, in fairness, I don't know how many tables he had. All that said, I would go back. But, I think that this business needs to make some changes to compete in today's market. Longevity isn't a good business plan and sitting on your past successes isn't the way to bring in new customers. I had the surf and turf, my family had the lamb and NY steak. All the food was well prepared and good value. I thought Yelp reviews were supposed to be about the food, many that reviewed this place were so critical of the decor, lighting and temperature. Really!! I would say that it's an interesting step back in time, they have some eccentric people working there, our waitresses was very pleasant and tried really hard to address our needs, they really bring it with the quality of food preparation. If I could rate Sewickley Speakeasy on how nice the staff is, they'd get four stars, but unfortunately, there's more to reviewing a restaurant. The vibe when entering is very unflattering. It feels like you're walking into someone's house...and not in a cozy, welcoming kind-of-way. The dated decor needs a major overhaul, and it really just doesn't FEEL as semi-fancy as the prices, staff attire, and menu would suggest. We initially sat at the bar while we waiting for the rest of our group to arrive, and the initial experience was okay. Decent whisky selection, and my wife's wine was pretty good. The bartender, who was also our waitress, was really nice, but we found it odd that her and one of the waitresses started getting a little argumentative in front of us. It felt about as awkward as the old kitchen-turned waitress station that you had to walk through to get to our table. As for the food? A few hits, but mostly misses. We started with the frog legs, artichoke bacon dip, and the baked five onion soup. The frog legs were really bland, and drenched in plain garlic, wine, and butter sauce and battered. They sounded much better on paper than they tastes. Too much butter, not enough flavor. The artichoke bacon dip, on the other hand, was pretty good. The bacon adding a nice salty taste to what otherwise is a pretty common artichoke dip. Definitely our favorite of the three apps. The five onion soup was decent, but I probably wouldn't order it again. The cream-based onion soup would've been just as tasty and healthier without the cream. The creaminess really didn't add anything to the soup for me. For the main course, I got the 8 oz. filet with a side of smashed potatoes. The filet was done perfectly to my liking, and was basic. Not over seasoned or anything. Just a well-cooked, medium temperature steak. The smashed potatoes were good, too, but definitely a bit too rich with butter. The side salad was basic, and I didn't even touch the bread that they gave us. That's probably a testament to the amount of food they give you, which IS quite a bit. Or maybe it's because we ordered too many apps. Either way, for the price, the amount of food they give you is good...too bad the flavor couldn't stand up to the price. The waitress was attentive (even though she poured me the wrong Scotch), and even allowed us to move to the bar to watch the Penguins game after our meal (easy since she was working both our table and the bar). At the bar for the 2nd time, I decided to order dessert. Again, hit-and-miss. The creme brûlée? Awesome. The apple puff pastry? Awful. Essentially over sweetened, but uncooked and crisp apples, with thin pieces of pastry dough on top. That's one dessert that I hope to never come across again. It sounds harsh, but it really was that disappointing. Overall, I really, REALLY wanted to like the Sewickley Speakeasy, but when it was all said and done, there was simply nothing memorable about the experience or the food. For $28, you can get a good filet and decent smashed potatoes at a lot of restaurants, and nothing surrounding the main entrée was good enough to make us eager to return. I don't often write reviews. We're from out of town and staying near the airport for a flight out. The reviews we saw were all "great food" "delicious" and "excellent". That was not our experience. First, it's off a "highway" and up a potholed driveway to the old house in the trees. The website said that the parking on Friday and Saturday "is valet only". This was on Friday night. We arrived on our Harley and the gentleman in the plastic chair pointed to an area up in the dirt and trees. After explaining I wasn't going there, he pointed to another area on pavers that was acceptable. Mind you, there were TWO cars in the vast parking lot. We had made reservations as recommended in some reviews. We were the only two in the dining room and another party of 3 in the bar area. We both had the same Chicken Piccata entrees. Here's the real rub. The dish is $24.95. It comes with soup or salad, potato or rice, or vegetables. Our dish arrived with each of us receiving 5-6 "medallions" of chicken. If you combined both our chicken "pieces", I'm not sure you would get a full breast. The flavor was okay but it was terrible value. As we were finishing our dinner, another couple arrived in the dining room. There were now 3 cars in the vast parking lot at 6:45pm on Friday. After leaving we drove down to Sewickley Village. There are a number of nice-looking restaurants there. Go there! read more

Our waitress only had one other table with two women and our meal wasn't served for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Salads were a small amount of iceberg lettuce with one cherry tomato cut in half. Most of meals were average. The chicken pot pie looked and tasted like Marie Calendar's. I ordered duck breast and it was awful. the skin was not crispy and it was over cooked. The waitress was sharp when asked for raspberry tea and she said twice that they only served "regular" tea. When asked for refills, they sat on the bar for an long time before being served. Worse yet is that we killed several ants, one on a guest and the others on the table and bread dish. I believe that a restaurant asking high prices would serve food worth the price. First off there is valet parking. Found it kind of odd since the lot is right there next to the bldg. My husband thought maybe they have it since the size of the lot isn't very big and this way it can be controlled when it was busy. Server 'auctioned' dishes table-side with zero recollection of who ordered which item. No bread appeared until requested; did not appear until entrees were nearly finished. Water glasses never touched. Wines we ordered we served to ourselves. Second bottle was corked. Shrimp scampi entree served with three shrimp. Come on now. All used utensils -- appetizers, salads, entrees -- piled up on the table until we paid the check and left. But hey, 'mandatory' valet parking seems to have been suspended. Don't delude yourself into thinking this is fine dining at its glorious best - or anywhere in the same zip code. For both food and ambiance, this place is about as overrated as the Titanic's unsinkability. The positives: the "speakeasy" decor is pleasing and somehow comforting. It could probably use some better accent lighting to really develop the mood and highlight some of the wall art - but overall it's nice when you can see it in the ambient daylight. Also, the window seats afford a nice vantage point over the Ohio River (woo...), except the trains going by below actually interfere with conversation (unless you enjoy talking over locomotives in a restaurant... LOL!). Thicker drywall and better windows would really improve the mood. So, dinner started off with Oysters on the Half Shell ($8.95) - one of my favorite appetizers when it's done right. (Yes, raw oysters are delish!) Except, you know that taste that oysters have when they're just on the edge of turning? That was about half of them here. Obviously not fresh - something I expect unequivocally not just at a fancy place like this but ANY place that dares to offer raw oysters for consumption. For me this is a BIG NEGATIVE since it doesn't require any cooking - it speaks only to the quality of the kitchen! Three of us ordered off the light fare (price fixe) menu ($16.95) while I ordered from the regular dinner choices. The Haluska appetizer as part of the price fixe menu was tasty, but the portion size was barely enough to fill a petri dish. One of us had the Frog - feedback was that it was decent. "Tastes like chicken," was the comment, just as expected... Another had the Chicken Romano - feedback was that it nothing spectacular and lacked seasoning. A third had the Pot Pie - same feedback as above. Biggest complaint was that the chicken pieces were chewy (overcooked) and the actual comment given to me was that, "Giant Eagle makes better pot pies." As for me, I had their Alfredo ($16.95) - a dish simple enough. Unfortunately, the pasta had way, way, way too much cream, not enough cheese, and not enough flavor. Sorry, some may feel this place is the fancy or sheik place to go for this area but when I think of Sewickley Speakeasy I hear that big "you-overpaid-horn" from Price is Right and Drew Carey telling me I can't have the new set of lawn furniture from Blammo. This was my first time at Sewickley Speakeasy and the food was delicious and very well priced for the amount served. I was kind of thrown off by the valet when we pulled up the hill, though. The attendant was wearing jeans and a hoodie and did not give us a ticket or anything when we handed him the keys. He was very friendly though. I wasn't anticipating the building to be a house so that was surprising as well. My fiance and I dined here doing our tasty research for rehearsal venues for our wedding. Hands down, we know this is where we want to have our food. I had driven by this place for years and never really thought that this kind of food would come from this building. After reading yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try because it's perfect distance between our church and hotel for our guests. We were met at the top of the hill by a gentleman for valet parking. He was nice and polite. Inside, we were met by a hostess who basically let us have any seat we wanted since we got there right after the doors opened. Our waitress was very personable and knowledgeable about the food. I also appreciated that she recognized I was cold and turned on the fireplace and turned up the heat for me. I'm used to being cold in restaurants (because I'm cold everywhere) so it wasn't a requirement for me or any bearing on the temperature of the building in general, but I can absolutely appreciate the wait staff recognizing this. They have a "value" menu for a five course meal which we were set to try; however, the features that night sounded too good to pass up. I'm glad we didn't. I tried the pan seared duck with a cherry sauce. My fiance had cod and crab. He raved about the crab and the duck was probably one of the best restaurant meals I've had. I'm still salivating for it days later. We also tried the bacon artichoke dip which was phenomenal. I think the building itself is interesting since its a converted house that overlooks the river. The inside is decorated like an antique house. While some may find that "old", I think it makes it interesting. I do agree with other reviewers that near the fireplace, you do smell the gas. So I recommend sitting away from it. But really, this was my only complaint. And since we sat across the room, we had no issue with this. Absolutely recommend to anybody looking for a different night out and look forward to our return. We only had two servers for the whole group.I believe they may have had other tables to deal with on the first floor. So they had to come back and forth between two floors. We had to wait over an hour before any rolls were put on the table and over 2 hours before our meals came. I ordered the seafood platter and it was terrible. It unreasonable to ask two serves to manage a group of 30 and to go back and forth like that especially on a Sunday, which seems like a popular night for them. Again very disappointing. I had such high expectations for this place being in such a beautiful part of pittsburgh. Everything in sewickley is so well kept and charming. My husband and i thought it was definitely odd to have valet with parking so small, and the Valet driver looked like someone off the street, not dressed as part of staff at all, altho he was nice. We didnt know how to tip someone who literally walked 10 feet to get our car. Walking in, i immediately was uncomfortable. Just a regular old house that has definitely not been taken care of at all. The staff was semi okay. We didnt get a wine menu to look at. We both got Delmonico Steaks and Shrimp cocktail. My steak had so much fat in it i couldnt finish it. (My dog had a great dinner). I originally asked about the stuffed shrimp and if the crabmeat was fresh, waitress looked at me like i was crazy and said its out of a can. How can you charge so much for food I could've purchased at store and made at home. The desserts were frozen in middle and definitely heated by microwave, you could get a spongey taste from choc cake. We called while on the road home after visiting a funeral home for a close friends daughter and granddaughter. They were gracious enough to accommodate us with short notice reservations. Even though my husband and I grew up in the towns adjacent to here, we have never experienced this delightful place. Not only did we have excellent service, we experienced a delicious meal with the Rockefeller oysters, filet, and sea bass special! We ( 4 people) went on a Saturday night and it's valet only which was weird because the parking lot was small but nice for the older generation because parking was on a hill. We started with drinks and got them right away. The waitress was good she was very attentive. We then got oysters Rockefeller, baked Brie, and oysters on the half.l for an appetizer. The oysters and Brie were good and we would all get them again. We got the salads right away with bread and it was delicious! For dinner we had veal Zurich, scallops, and veal oscar. The veal Zurich was very good and I would get it again. The veal oscar was very lemony but mashed potatoes were good. My father said the scallops were good and he would get them again.
