    Hot Thighs

Rupe's Roadhouse popped into my head when an old friend wanted to meet for dinner and a few beers. My friend is a meat and potatoes, shot and a beer, sort of guy so this fit the bill perfectly. On a Friday Pens Hockey night in Pittsburgh, this place gets jammed. We bellied up to the bar that was filled to capacity. The bartenders were pretty good about servicing everyone although a little on the slow side. No matter since the two women were friendly and we were busy catching up. Their beer selection is pretty decent and I tried a Vanilla Porter on draft that was just tapped and really fresh. It was so good. My friend ordered up some Hot Thighs to start. These are chicken thighs with garlic and sauce on them. He really enjoyed them and had enough to take home and share with his brother, who also really loved them. He ordered the gyro and said it was very tasty. I had the Reuben that came served with a big knife plunged into it - must be a culinary trend here because that happened to me recently at another place with a cheesesteak. Don't kill the sandwiches, people! I opted for fries instead of chips and was glad I did. The fries were fresh and hot. This is a super cozy local tavern with decent food and friendly patrons. We were impressed that the owner/manager came around to ask how the meal was even though it was so crowded. He seems to really be trying to build the food side of his business and has recently added Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday brunch/breakfast from 9-12, which I may have to try (they need to post a menu for breakfast online).

I've been driving Camp Horne Road regularly, (or as regularly as PennDot will let me) for almost five years now. There used to be a little hole in the wall called Mark's on one of the turns. The only reason I remember it was called Mark's was because my boss at the times name was Mark. There wasn't much else memorable about the sad building. But now, WOW. They have done so much to revamp that place. New exterior, new entrance, and although I can't speak to the old interior, this is really nice! They have a nice sized bar, and plenty of high tops and low seaters. Tv's abound, but it's not super noisy. In traditional Pittsburgh style, memorabilia and jerseys are framed throughout the dining room. Rupe's had a Groupon going, and for $10 for $20, I decided to treat my parents one night. Dad is a creature of habit, and got the fish and chips. Mom got a pepperoni flatbread, and I tried the gyro bowl. So. Much. Food. Dads fish was baked, really well, just the way he likes it. Mom shared her flatbread with everyone, and I thought it was really good! Crisp and cheesy. What more can you ask for? And my gyro bowl? Amazing. Lettuce, fries, tomato, and more lamb than I knew what to do with. I had to eat the whole thing. (Shame, shame) Service was good, considering it was happy hour, and we weren't consuming alcohol. We didn't need to ask for refills, and I'm pretty sure everyone working in the bar that night came and brought us napkins and asked how our meals were. Nice! They just launched a new Groupon, and you bet I'm gonna get another one! Happy Eating!

Super awesome place ! Hidden in an unsuspecting part of town you wouldn't expect something as nice to be in. Looks great inside and greatest genuine hospitality I've received from a restaurant and it's owners in a while. Made the visit feel super personal, DEF worth you're way out of your path to stop by!

Please see my attached photos for the dinner menu in May 2026. My husband and I have eaten two meals here. The service during our first visit was prompt, while the service during our second visit was a bit slower but always courteous. Here are my husband's and my ratings for our foods across both visits: Bread - 4.5 stars - This bread was free, and it came with olive oil. It was fresh and tasted good. Strawberry salad - 4.5 stars - The mixed greens, strawberries, pecans, and goat cheese were fresh and tasted very good. I liked that the right amount of vinaigrette dressing was added. Soup of the day - 4 stars - The soup was cream of mushroom. I received a large cup of it, and I liked it. Dynamite shrimp - 4.5 stars - My husband said that this appetizer was his favorite food here. A large number of fried shrimps were coated in a slightly spicy sauce. Tuna poke - 3.5 stars - The tuna, avocado, and mango tasted plain, so we added much salt. The wonton chips look slightly burned. Jumbo lump crab cake dinner - 4.5 stars - This entree contained one large crab cake that was very meaty and flavorful (5 stars). On the side was asparagus (4.5 stars) and rice (4 stars). Filet mignon - 4.5 stars - My husband ordered this filet mignon twice. The chef cooked the first steak as my husband had requested, but the second steak was slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, he enjoyed the flavors of the steak and the sides of garlic mashed potatoes and green beans with the right amount of butter and pepper. Chilean sea bass - 3.5 stars - The fish was tender and came with pineapple fried rice and Asian slaw. Other important information: The dress code appears to be smart-casual. My husband and I, as well as many other customers, wore jeans. The restaurant charges a convenience fee for using credit cards. If you want to save money on your meal, sign up for the InKind app, which often offers coupons and for which you can purchase discounted gift cards from Costco. Our waitress performed her job well. Here is what we ate: Crab rangoon nachos - 4 stars - Wonton chips were covered in sweet chili glaze, large chunks of imitation crab meat (which my husband liked), green onion, and black sesame seeds. Apricot bourbon salmon - 4 stars - The salmon was cooked nicely and was juicy and flavorful. For sides, the mixed vegetables had a bit too much oil, and the brussels sprouts could use more flavor. Chicken cordon bleu sandwich - 4 stars - My husband said that the chicken was slightly overfried and hard, but the flavors from the arugula, onions, prosciutto, cheese, and dijonaise were good. He liked the side of crispy fries. The total price was $54 plus tax and tip.

The hostess/waitress promptly seated us, took our order, brought out our foods, accurately charged us, and thanked us. Here are my ratings for what my husband and I ate during our three-course meal: March salad - 5 stars - This fresh salad contained a lettuce blend, goat cheese, beets, cauliflower, sunflower seeds, and a delicious celery-seed dressing. Shrimp bisque - 4.5 stars - My husband did not like this shrimp-flavored soup, but I did like it. Crab cakes - 5 stars - I received two HUGE Chesapeake-style crab cakes that were almost purely crab meat. They were much larger than what other restaurants serve, and they tasted fantastic. My husband said that they were some of the best crab cakes that we have eaten in a while. The sides were rice pilaf and cream spinach. Corned beef - 3 stars - My husband does not like many foods, so he barely ate these beef slices on top of potato cakes, cabbage, and horseradish sauce. Given his preferences, he should have ordered a safer entree. I took a bite of this entree and thought that it tasted alright. Lemon curd - 4.5 stars - My dessert was two lemon bars served with fresh blackberries, blackberry compote, and whipped cream. I liked the combination of sour and sweet flavors. The total bill was $104 plus tax and tip. THANK YOU to the gentleman who was sitting at the table next to me and noticed that I had accidentally left behind my take-home container of leftover crab cake. We met part of our group there, and they were already seated, so I don't believe waiting for a table was an issue (even for a party of 6). Once seated, our waiter was prompt and attentive and we also had who I assume to be a manager check-in with us. So no complaints about service. Our waiter took our drink order, appetizer order, food order and provided refills on drinks promptly/reasonably. All of our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals but my wife had the shrimp fajita and I had the rodeo burger (without BBQ sauce, I just wasn't in the mood for BBQ sauce but all of the other toppings sounded yummy - Gouda cheese, bacon, crispy fried onion, and chipotle aioli). Both are pictured. Overall, I'd recommend going here if you aren't bothered by street parking. The service, atmosphere, and food were solid.
