Awesome place for breakfast, lunch or brunch with great service and great food. Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday. Only had to wait a minute and got seated inside right away. Our waiter was right there for drink orders and waters. We had the Counter Burger, 2 strawberry pancakes, and the Southern Poached Eggs. All three or orders were delicious. The pancakes are thick and take up a full dinner plate, so make sure you're hungry if you're going to order two. The Southern Poached Eggs were a big hit with creamy grits sitting on top of wonderfully prepared greens. The Counter Burger was ranked #2 burgers by the Texas Monthly, but I'm not sure how you rank burgers. It was really good, but it's a burger. The fries were good, but either needed a little more seasoning, or a little more crispiness to put them over the top. Good brunch and we'll be back. read more

Probably one of my oldest bookmarks on the list, and we wanted to try a new spot and this was a solid visit for us...Really loved the old school diner vibes... but...the Service definitely lacked that nostalgic feel as we were greeted and seated with a solid 10 minutes passing before we were acknowledged....and only by the employee who just punched in for his shift...I'm assuming it was his section, yet there were others that could have least taken a drink order...something...again his service wasn't all that hot either...coffee and 2 waters to start...forgot the waters...wife asked for "our" waters...brought hers...then I had to ask the same...Wife went out on a limb and ordered her first ever French Toast, which was delish...not sure if was the bread or the batter but the flavor was amazing...fruit was really fresh...ordered a single biscuit and gravy (bad photo) and yet a plain biscuit with butter and jam hit the table..wifes scrambled egg were cooked to perfection...I went with the Counter Benedict and it was pretty good....one egg was over and the other was perfect...pastrami was new for me and it went well with the runny egg. Breakfast potatoes were just right....We both agreed on the bacon...top notch all the way....Over all a decent visit...Staff needs to focus on what customers are asking for....write it down if need be...as for a return visit, chances are good for a shot at lunch, as the menu looks tasty. read more

New favorite breakfast/brunch place in Austin. If you want a non-millennially decorated, no-frills east coast diner-style breakfast/brunch THIS is your place! The crab cake Benedict was delicious and a steal for $17. I loooooved the pancake/hot cake. For $1, you must add the fresh whipped cream. We got there at 1pm on a Saturday and waited about 5 minutes for a table. Almost every table was taken so I'm pretty sure we just got really lucky. They also serve mimosas, bloody Mary's, and margaritas. Price is really reasonable for the portion sizes. read more

Got their migas while my friend got their Counter Porridge. Migas was good, nothing crazy to talk about, but definitely solid. They put in more tortillas than most places, which I liked cuz I like tortillas. Their potatoes were pretty solid too. My friend's Counter Porridge was interesting. It's essentially quinoa in sweet cream. I wouldn't define it as "porridge" in the traditional sense, it's more in between a cereal and a yogurt parfait than anything else. It's pretty decent, but it's just the sum of its parts rather than the combination being anything amazing. We didn't get their more popular items, like their crab cakes, so will have to try those another time, but overall, a solid breakfast/brunch choice in East Austin. Tons of parking too! read more

Unfortunately my partner and I had a pretty mediocre food experience here. Service was great, however! My partner ordered the fried chicken biscuit, and I ordered the crab cakes and eggs. Both were pretty bland with the crab cakes being pretty fishy. The toast was dry, and I think the only thing we really liked were the breakfast potatoes and greens. It felt like they just threw the food together on a plate and called it a day. read more

We came for breakfast on our last day in Austin. Place was full, but was seated pretty quickly. Husband got the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. Son got steak and eggs and daughter got 1 giant chocolate pancake. Biscuits and gravy were surprisingly good. I loved the biscuits. Fluffy and soft. The pancake was also yum. Fluffy and a right amount of sweetness. The potatoes from the steak and egg plate were delicious. Little potatoes with onions. The steak was okay, but I'm sure paired with a fried egg and those potatoes it wasn't bad. For $22 though, the steak should've been more than okay. I got the Southern poached eggs. It came with grits and collards. The dish lacked something. I believe it was the grits. The eggs were perfect. The collards were spicy and flavorful, but the grits were just okay. Even with the egg yolk and the juice and spiciness from the collards, they still lacked. Even with me putting hot sauce. I think if the grits were good, this dish would be awesome. I visited this cafe on my last day in Austin. On a Sunday morning, we waited about 45 minutes for our party of 4 to be seated. In the meantime we got coffee next door to kill time. FYI - you can't bring in outside drinks so finish it quickly! The service was quick once seated. The menu offers traditional breakfast items such as biscuits & gravy, eggs benedict, and pancakes. The food is OK, but don't expect anything noteworthy. On the plus side, it's affordable and convenient location. read more

Waiter could have been better...by a lot! Forgot my order. Food for everyone else came out and he realized it was never rung in. My benedict finally came out, the eggs were hardboiled, and my fries were cold. He comped it but was indifferent. Not the CCE I remember. Will be back but hopefully will be better than this time. read more

Food was very good, the waiter we had was a whole different story that changed our perspective. From the get go - he seems annoyed and impatient. As quick as we got our food - we got our bill! Our drinks never got filled and we had to constantly ask the bus boy (man) to fill our coffee and water . The waiter said he could not make hot chocolate but yet the bus boy said he could and he did. This just made no sense ?? The feel of the restaurant can have a cozy, neighborhood feel as they sit you with guest that can fill the table but yet give everyone enough space. I needed an order to go on a busy Saturday. They were quick but gentle to greet me and took my order in a reasonable amount of time, given the crowd. The breakfast tacos were fresh with generous amount of everything and they tasted amazing! Great salsa too! All around YES! read more

I love counter cafe. It's one of the lasts spots in Austin that's offers the low key breakfast classics for a solid price. They have two locations and because they're so great they're usually alway busy. So put in a resy if you can or just call in your Order if you don't care to dine in. I've had these guys multiple times over the years and they never let me down. Food is solid, service is always friendly and the vibes are chill! read more

This was our first stop in Austin and the workers were very friendly. Our server gave us a lot of good recommendations in places to visit while there. There hotcakes were yummy! This was a relatively quick breakfast meal. We had the Fried Chicken biscuit with fruit, potatoes, and a side of eggs and gravy. I also had the cold brew coffee. The chicken biscuits were good but we both ended up deconstructing them to eat in other ways (with the biscuits as biscuits and gravy, with syrup, and with the eggs). Adding the syrup was the best choice for me. Mental note- the gravy has pork/meat in it. read more

Great place for a classic diner meal. Came in around noon on a Monday and the place was hopping. Had to wait a few minutes for a table, just for two! I got the Benedict and it was perfectly done; fair portions. The staff was definitely very busy but we felt taken care of and well fed! My dining partner got some eggs and bacon and happy- crispy chewy bacon that wasn't too crispy that it turned into shards when you bite into it. I appreciated all the hot sauces (ask for all three!) and the homemade biscuits were delicious-flakey but not crumbly. read more

No wait Saturday about 11AM, easy pop in. It was a nice atmosphere with a little music, clean bathrooms & a covered patio. Joe's egg plate over spinach was a hit! Bacon cooked perfectly. Egg sandwich was a mouthful and yummy with a little added salt and pepper. Cheesy grits were packed with flavor and a little kick. Only leaving 1 start because the food was good, but we basically got kicked out while I was still having my drink. We did not even ask for the check and weren't even done with our food when it was brought to us. After that our drinks were picked up and I asked the gentleman if he could leave mine because I wasn't even done with the coffee and he said you have 2 minutes because there's a lot of people waiting. Ooh wee! This place is wow! Aka my new breakfast joint. Don't be intimidated by the line or wait as it moves quite fast. Their hot cakes appear to be their specialty however I have yet to make it through every weeks specials! Coffee is local, breakfast is on point and the staff are quick and friendly. I was impressed all around! We arrived on a Saturday before noon and only had a 15 min wait which is unheard of. The food was so fresh and full of flavor. I was trying to be healthy so I got Joes Special. But at the waitresses suggestion, swapped out the bread for a homemade biscuit. Then my son ordered a hotcake and I decided to throw caution to the wind and got a side of Blueberry Hot Cake for myself. I wasn't expecting much more than your standard breakfast, but everything was so good! Hot cakes were fluffy and house sausage was full of flavor!! You can't beat the flavor of natural, organic or locally sourced ingredients. My only complaint is I need them to open a location a little closer to Cedar Park. read more

Went for an early morning breakfast and were not disappointed. Staff: was welcoming and friendly, no fluff or fuss but not in a bad way. Was appreciate for the early hour before the coffee hit. Food: Ordered the Counter Benedict with sausage instead of pastrami & the Fried Chicken Biscuit with a side of gravy. The Benedict had perfectly cooked eggs, a soft biscuit and hollandaise sauce with a bright flavor. The Chicken biscuit was good, especially the gravy! I'm not usually a fan of breakfast potatoes (I prefer crispy hash browns) but these were diced nice and small and delicious! Overall, cute little spot with delicious food. My only dislike would be the coffee, but I'm pretty picky about my coffee so not mad about it. read more

This turned out to be a nice place to stop for breakfast before getting some showers. I got the Counter Benedict, and my gf got a Strawberry Hot Cake. Let's get to it. The Nitty Gritty So... before getting to the food, I need to comment on something serious. Bathrooms are an important part of any restaurant or establishment that serves the public. When my gf came back from the restroom she mentioned that the baby changing area was very dirty. A dirty changing station can really make it difficult to enjoy your time here. I hope that they take that cleanliness seriously, and while at it put a changing station in the mens restroom so both mothers and fathers can have the basic amenities available to take care of their children. So, I enjoyed the counter Benedict. The eggs were a bit under done and the hollandaise sauce was very thin. I'm a huge eggs Benedict fan and when it's right, it's amazing. The hot cake was amazing. It was fluffy, tasty, and just very well done. read more

Giving three stars because the food was amazing but our server was horrible. He was the most miserable server I'd ever met, didn't write anything down and forgot to put in my sausage order and when I told him he didn't even acknowledge me. He just walked to the computer and put it in and brought it to me when it was ready didn't say sorry or communicate at all. Come for The food but if you get that guy with the shirt dark hair and miserable demeanor just know what you're getting. read more

Loved my breakfast tacos. Quick service, comfy outdoor seating with lots of flowers, and the waiter got us our check right away when I asked. It's a busy restaurant but they get you seated right away and food out quickly. Lots of people want to eat here so I don't like to sit around for a half hour after my food is done and waste the seat. There's plenty of places to go sit down after a meal so I appreciate a restaurant with prompt service and I'm happy to move on so someone else can sit and enjoy a meal too. Despite the quick service the vibe here is very relaxed. Come by and enjoy your morning on their patio. read more

Usually go to Lazarus when we visit Austin for a beer or wine (after business meeting), but we finished our meeting earlier and still too early to start "happy hour", so decided to have lunch here. Nothing fancy, but simple and honest menu and service. Corner burger with sweet potato fries would be a classic pick, I got veggie burger which made of lentils, quinoa and beets comes with whole-wheat buns. Good for breakfast or brunch/lunch, they serve a good portion, and there are counter seatings, so I could come here solo as well. I added this place to My Austin list for my next visit! read more

The sauce was extremely rich, making it difficult to enjoy or finish the meal. That said, the restaurant itself is adorable, and our waiter was fantastic. The service and atmosphere were both great. While this breakfast wasn't a hit for me, I'll still return and stick with favorites like the fried green tomatoes and taquito salad, which were excellent during my previous visit.

From the moment we walked in, the hostess gave us a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. It took our server a little while to get to our table, but she arrived with waters in hand, which was appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, though I've definitely had better back home in Houston. For my entrée, I ordered the Badass Bacon Plate, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything on the plate was delicious, from the thick-cut slab of bacon to the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. I especially appreciated that the eggs were seasoned before cooking, something I don't often see at restaurants, and it really made a difference. The hash brown casserole was also fantastic and tied the whole meal together. My brother ordered the fried chicken biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although our server was clearly very busy, the restaurant had a great team approach. Other staff members checked on us, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed, so we never felt neglected. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, friendly hospitality, and excellent teamwork. I would definitely recommend Phoebe's Diner if you're looking for a satisfying breakfast or brunch in Austin.

The hollandaise belongs in a museum. Biscuits and Gravy: Fluffier than a cloud and smothered in gravy that tastes like a warm hug from a Southern grandma. Pure, unadulterated comfort food. Side of Bacon: This isn't just bacon. It is a thick-cut, crispy masterpiece. Pretty sure it's the best bacon in Austin, if not the entire universe. Pro tip: Get on their Yelp Waitlist early unless you enjoy staring longingly through the window at strangers eating your future meal. 10/10 will be back to eat my weight in pork products.

The hint of the lemon is a great touch. Pancakes are huge, batter itself is amazing and flavorful. We got bananas and strawberries in it. I think it would be better with just the fresh fruit on top. Bacon is cooked perfectly. Sourdough toast with their fresh made berry jam - OUTSTANDING. Then the French omelette, lighter fair, comes with a salad.

The sausage gravy served with the chicken fried chicken was a little unexpected, but I actually enjoyed the subtle kick of spice it had. The collard greens weren't for me, but that's more of a personal preference since I've never been a fan. The mac and cheese, however, felt like it was missing something. Maybe it was the blend of cheeses, but it wasn't the classic, ooey-gooey diner-style mac and cheese we were hoping for. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles had a fermented aroma and tangy flavor that caught us off guard. After speaking with the manager, she explained that they're made with a sourdough batter. While that may appeal to some people, it just wasn't his favorite. Overall, we had a good experience thanks to the outstanding service and welcoming atmosphere. The food simply didn't match our personal tastes. That said, the restaurant was absolutely packed, so they're clearly doing something right. I would still recommend giving 24 Diner a try because everyone's palate is different, and their unique flavors may be exactly what you're looking for.

She said it wasn't bad, the chicken was juicy. I had the abomination that was the sweet potato hash. The eggs were ordered over medium. Fruit was the side. The eggs were cooked over well, way over well. Ok. Things happen. The hash was not fresh at all. Really quite soggy. Ok, so guessing it may have been cooked a day or two prior to ordering. Not well prepared, but not the end of the world, right? Here's the thing: there was an unmistakable flavor of rubber and/or plastic. This was the predominant flavor. I simply couldn't eat it. Maybe a wrapper or some other foreign item was inadvertently added. The small dish of watermelon, strawberry and pineapple was ok. This, with tip, was $65.00 just had water to drink. Wonder if they used to be good and have just fallen off, but IMHO not worth it at all.

One interesting detail: when we asked for tomatoes on our burgers, we were told that the owner doesn't like tomatoes and therefore doesn't serve them. While we found that a bit amusing, the tomato was honestly the only thing missing from an otherwise perfect burger. So, if you're a tomato lover, you might want to bring your own--just kidding... sort of! All jokes aside, this was a seriously delicious burger and easily one of the best I've had in a very long time. Highly recommended! Parking can fill up quickly, but it's worth the short walk if required.

Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Not too big of a space and not sure if there is more seating elsewhere. Anyhoo, coffee was good and I got the Royal toast and a single pancake with eggs, and sausage. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. Really wanted to try a slice of pie ( TX Pie Co) but seems a bit outta line with what I already ordered. Maybe next time.

4:30 is a great time to visit, if you want to avoid a wait!

The origiri was yummy too. Very different from what I'm used to with origiri but in a fun and delectable way. Loved the crunchy fried outside and the texture of the rice inside. The menu is on the pricier side but we want to come back for happy hour omakase.

To end the meal we tried their beignets which weren't stellar but reminded me more of a fried donut with some powdered sugar sprinkled on top. I'd come back but maybe not get so much food since we both definitely left stuffed!
