Been here twice in the past couple of weeks. Overall I like it. Its a cute, casual place to meet with friends and have a couple glasses of wine. There is a happy hour with very good prices, but you get what you pay for so don't expect a lot from the happy hour wine options. So far I have not been impressed with the food. The first time I had one of the cheese boards and really did not like it much at all. The only really good thing on it was the candied pecans. Those were delish! The cheeses were not great, and the bread was was similarly unimpressive. The second time I tried the mozzarella tomato basil pizza. It had no real flavor, other than the red pepper flakes sprinkled on it, and just was not very good. However my friend liked it, so maybe I am just picky about my pizza. Maybe one day I'll try one of the sandwiches . . . there has to be something decent on the menu . . . One thing this place has going for it is super hot/cute/adorable bartenders. They may be the owners, I'm not really sure. If I were not happily married, I would probably visit Counterpoint for that reason alone! So, single girls, get over there! read more

Came here for Happy Hour - which is LITERALLY an hour (5-6pm). Pretty lame that it's only an hour, but luckily we made it there on time from work, and our server offered to put through a second round to get the same prices ($3 for a few select wines). The white I had was delish, and we also shared one of the cheese boards - mmmmmmm how I love my cheese. Cute little place, outside patio area, and service was excellent. It was started to get hoppin' as we were leaving... I wonder what it's like on a weekend night? Might have to check it out to see if it garners a 5th star! read more

This was my second time visiting and I liked the place initially, so I brought an out of town guest with me. The place is also a couple of blocks away from my home so it's really convenient. So, I grab a seat and send my friend up to the bar to order a couple of beers (guess we should waited on a waiter). My friend comes back looking puzzled and says that the bartender refused to serve him because she didn't believe that his ID was really his. (He only has a different hair style now.) Not really a big deal, so I get up to go and order the drinks my self when he stops me and tells me that she through his drivers license back to him on the bar. Not worth it to deal with an attitude like that so we left and walked over another nearby place. I was really disappointed. read more

Swung by right after my hair appointment and must I say wow, its a cute place! It wasn't what I expected it to be. I tried their brussel sprouts and omg they were the best tasting brussel sprouts I've ever had! They steak and Frittes were soooo BOMB! The steak was soooo tender and flavorful. I was beyond surprised. I wasn't expecting the food to be that delicious. I definitely wanna come here to try more of the food. read more

A real neighborhood spot, the people that work here are phenomenal, kind and fun. The beer selection is always great with wonderful surprises!! I've been coming here for two years and am always amazed that everyone that walks in is greeted by name and those that arrive for first time are treated as if honored guests at ones house. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time after moving in right down the street. I absolutely loved the ambiance! There are amazing paintings and modern art under candle-lit tables and low lighting, so cool! Such a great date night place. The only reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars was because both of the beers we ordered (great beer list btw) were lukewarm and our glasses weren't chilled. The food was a hit though! I got the fries which come with pork carnitas and my boyfriend got the burger which was equally amazing. There is outdoor seating which is a great place to get a drink during sunset or when its hot out. I've tried the food which is amazing, they do tend to change it by the season which i love and hate. I also seem to find something I really like, then its suddenly gone :(((((( The mac and cheese here is amazing (i dont know why, but im obsessed with mac and cheese) and they have a great beer list on draft. The servers can be a little un-attentive (having empty drinks for 7+ minutes) but with a quick reminder our beers were re-filled. We are definitely coming back! read more

Went here last night, and immediately my friend and I were overwhelmed (in a good way) with how welcoming and friendly the two people working were to us. Although it is a hip new wine bar, the atmosphere was much more open and much less pretentious. We only had wine, but we really want to go back for food because the menu looked delicious, with lots of vegetarian options. Plus, our waitress explained that everything was locally grown, which I love. I like the idea that the whole place is local and friendly, like a little community wine bar. Our waitress was really, *really* attentive and sweet (and it was crowded, too), and she offered us tastes of any wines or beers we found intriguing before we actually ordered. She brought us three tastes and then two more when we didn't like those. She was definitely a sport. The only issue I had with this place was that we tasted four wines before finding one we liked (and that probably should be a big issue considering we were at a *wine bar*). Everything was really light and kind of watery. The syrah, shiraz, and another I can't remember were all way too light, although the flavor profiles were there. The zinfandel was good, and you could really taste the raspberries, but it was still too light and not rich or spicy enough for a zin. We settled with the Juan gil-jurilla red wine (the type we can't remember, but I believe it was the last on the list, made with currants). Spicy, full... Liked it a lot, but it was the only one we liked out of five. That's not too good. Based on that, I should probably give this place a 2-3, but I want to give it a 5 on principle (excellent service, local ingredients) and the hope that the food is good, so... a 4 it is. I'll definitely go back and try the food and maybe some white wines next time. read more

Tried it out on a Sunday night for the first time and enjoyed it. Excellent friendly service, tasty micro brews that warrant San Diego as America's Best Beer City and a pretty good light meal. Top that off with it's proximity to the 25th St bridge where you can play a song on the railing and I reckon I'll be back. read more

I came with a group of 3 people and all 3 of us were able to eat our way through many of the great dishes that are served here. All of the dishes were absolutely wonderful. The ingredients taste fresh, there's an air of originality in all the meals, and it all tastes very scrumptuous. I can't do justice when it comes to describing every little detail so I will just gush on what I remember off the top of my head. The place also has a great alcoholic selection, a lot of which is local (there's also a minibar). We got the Riesling wine and Julian hard apple cider. The first thing we got was the goat cheese plate, which consisted of hard cheese with chives, brie, and humboldt apricot, all of which were delicious. We also ordered the beet salad, which tasted fresh and came with plenty of sweet beets to wet our appetite. I ordered the mussels, which came with some kind of white sauce and some vegetables that tasted very good when you dipped bread into it. I also tried the steak peitillard which was cooked to perfection and served with a kind of curry sauce, which was the first time I've ever had such a unique combination. My favorite was the butternut squash ravioli, which according to the waiter, was the very first day they had served that dish. The pasta tasted homemade, the squash was just sweet enough, and it came with a cream sauce that was perfected to a T. And then we said what the heck, let's ordered a grilled cheese sandwich while we're at it. That came with two cheeses, one of which was pink (I forgot what it was called). Even after eating so much food already, we fought to continue eating just because how good it was (by the way, the grilled cheese tastes really good when dipped in the mussel sauce). I also loved the decor of the restaurant. I'm not sure how but it manages to be both cozy but seem open enough so as not to seem claustrophobic. I also loved the artwork on the walls. According to one of the signs, some of it came from Neko Press (who are known for their beautiful comic book artwork). read more

Came here with a friend of mine this evening and was not let down. Had the incredible charcuterie board, the flatiron steak that you could cut through like it was butter and cooked to medium rare perfectly, and a damn good traditional whiskey sour. On top of the food and booze, the staff is also incredibly attentive. All very nice people and had a great conversation with Mary(?). She helped us out immensely and topped off the experience. The husband and I met up with another couple early on a Sunday evening to catch up and what a great place! I like that it's small (I heard it can be packed on a Friday or Saturday night) and the space is interesting. Lots to look at, our corner booth was cozy with pillows and lots of light. I found some interesting wine options and the food was great. I went with my favorite combo (wine and cheese platter). The pizza was good and the boys said the beer options were excellent. The beer selection is pretty awesome here, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about their beer and wine selections. I had the onion tarte as an appetizer and it was amazing -- bacon, green onions, and sour cream on a perfectly light and flaky puff pastry. I think I could eat that every day. The salad with seared ahi was also pretty tasty, but the ahi --- a little dry -- had its spotlight stolen by the salad dressing. So light and sweet and tangy and slightly salty...The butternut squash ravioli was perfectly creamy without tasting heavy. There's a lot of care put into each dish and it shows. Kudos to the staff, too, for being attentive and quick -- I think our server this evening was Ben. Great guy! read more
