This was the first place that we tried when we moved to Lexington. It was a hot day and we needed a little pick-me-up, and this ice cream fit the bill perfectly! Anytime we walked by this summer, it always seemed like there were people in line because it's that popular (and good!). Very reasonable prices for good, creamy ice cream. Important note: cash only! Do not trust these reviews. The ice cream is not very good. Definitely not as good as what some are claiming it is. DQ way better choice. They make their own ice cream, but it is not worth buying. It is always soft, like ice cream that was purchased at the grocery store and gets soft and a tiny bit melted around the edges before you get home. The flavorings never taste like they should. All their flavors can leave a medicine like after taste that lingers. They don't accept cards of any kind, but they encourage people to use on site atm which they more than likely collect some cut. Plus in today's world their indoor space is too small and over crowded. No safe social distancing. No one wearing masks. Staff stare at you because you are wearing one. This place is not acceptable on so many levels. Please treat yourself, family, and friends way better and go elsewhere. read more

Very smart marketing! Sweet Things advertises at the interstate rest-stop, and their sign looked so appealing, I looked at my husband and said, "let's go!" What could be bad about homemade ice cream?! Nothing! Rich, creamy and a variety of flavors to choose from. I splurged and got an old fashioned sundae: butterscotch topping, whipped cream, a cherry -- the whole nine yards. T struck up conversation with the proprietor. He's got a good story: gave up the stress of practicing law in GA, to open an ice cream shop in what has to be one of the most charming towns in VA. Yesterday after lunch at a nice place in Lexington, VA we tried to visit Sweet Things for an ice cream. As a Type 1 diabetic who has volatile blood sugar swings I have been lucky enough to have trained diabetic alert dog who alerts to those swings and has kept me out of the ER on numerous occasions. The owner denied us service as he does not allow dogs in his shop. After pointing out that the American's With Disabilities Act mandates access, he stated he did not care. Diabetic alert dog, seeing eye dog, it didn't matter to him. If you have, or know anyone with a disability please steer clear of this establishment. The man working makes the ice cream and is very socialable and was able to give us samples before I fell in love with oreo ice cream which isn't vanillia with chunks of oreo cookies but blended up to where the ice cream actually looks like chocolate. Our friends were amazed to find out that Thuan's been in Lexington for a whole semester and more and we have yet to visit Sweet Things! They insist it's the BEST in town, so we went with them on a cold Sunday last week. Alright, we were convinced. The creamiest, home-made ice cream in numerous different flavors awaited us. Thuan got two scoops of mint choco chip and I got one of their popular Cookies and cream. The ladies were generous in scoop and the waffle cones were far better than the super thick heavy vanilla laden ones that you may find at Cold Stone. Rather they were more of a thin waffle cookie, mildly sweet, that didn't fill you up too much in addition to the ice cream. We will most certainly make it a goal each time I come down to visit to use their punch card and get the free sundae :3 read more
