The Country Cafe - restaurant interior
    Diane H.

The Country Cafe is located on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville. This place looks like it's been serving customers for at least 20+ years. The vibe is welcoming and homey. The Country Cafe serves breakfast and lunch. My dining companion and I arrived for breakfast. We were promptly greeted and advised to sit anywhere we wanted. There is both table and counter seating available. Our order was promptly taken, coffee arrived soon after. The service is swift. My dining companion ordered 2 eggs & sausage, which was accompanied with grits, and a biscuit. My dining companion raved about the grits. I ordered the 2 eggs & bacon entree, which was served with a warm biscuit, sausage gravy, and home fries. This is a generous meal and filled me for half a day! This is a smallish restaurant, but the staff are genial and welcoming. If we were in the area, we would surely return.

This small hidden eatery has the best grilled cheese in Nashville. A must stop if you are in the area.

I am sure that the homemade fluffy large biscuits are the best in Tennessee and maybe the US! I also know that their from scratch gravy tastes just like mine and it's the best I have EVER eaten in a restaurant!! This gem is worth driving to for the biscuits and gravy alone!!

I was in the area and was looking for a diner and found this one in my search on yelp. Glad I stopped by. The place is a bit small but good spots usually are. I say myself and the server was asking me what I wanted to drink in a flash. I then ordered a cheeseburger and had a choice of side so I got the tots. Burger was really good with lettuce and tomato and the tots are always a plus. The food came out fast and they got free refills on drinks. Prices are very reasonable. Want to come back again and try some of the other items on the menu.

Great little greasy spoon. Reminds me of my little no-stoplight hometown dinner in Eastern TN. Food was good and service was helpful and friendly. Nothing fancy here but it was a pleasant experience all around and I left here completely full. The biscuits were amazing and my favorite part of the breakfast!

Came here before my flight from BNA. Quaint little dinner, big country vibes. Regulars shuffling through, and conversations in the background that are thoroughly entertaining. The sounds of the kitchen's pots and pans and the sizzle of the grill all make up the cozy atmosphere here. I wouldn't say go out of your way to make this a pit stop, but I haven't had a country fried steak with gravy in a long time and it sure hit the spot. This isn't some fine dining establishment like you see in NYC; what you see is exactly what you get and I loved it. Exactly what I needed and prices are reasonable here.

It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry

This time, we switched things up and hit it for lunch instead. Good call. We grabbed seats at the bar, where Todd was holding down the fort. The guy was outstanding. Drinks never sat empty, food came out smoothly, and he somehow managed to be attentive without hovering over us every five minutes asking if everything was okay. My wife started with the Nashville Margue, which goes down way too easy for something packing moonshine. Light, refreshing, and carrying enough kick to remind you you're in Tennessee. Then Todd introduced us to a Bloody Mary made with a new pickle-infused vodka. Now, that sounds like one of those ideas that should either be amazing or a complete disaster. Turns out it's amazing. My wife loved it so much she's already talking about coming back tomorrow for another one. For food, we started with the pretzels and beer cheese. Simple. Warm. Soft. Salty. Exactly what you want while settling into a Nashville afternoon. Nothing fancy, just done right. Then I went all in on the mac and cheese topped with Nashville hot chicken. Yee Haw. Creamy mac and cheese. Crispy chicken. That signature Nashville heat. Comfort food with a little attitude. Just the way it should be. The best thing about The Stillery is that it knows exactly what it is. Good food. Good drinks. Good people. No gimmicks. No trying too hard. Just a fun place to sit down, relax, and enjoy yourself. Fifteen trips to Nashville (together) and it's still one of our first stops. That's probably the strongest review I can give. Five stars.

This place was a wonderful little experience. We were greeted with the sign outside, "Enter as Strangers and Leave as Friends," which is one of my life philosophies. We got there right at opening, so we got seated first along with one of their years-long regulars. A friendly local lady who provided us with pleasant conversation until the next patrons arrived, who were seated right next to us at the same table, family style. Then the next people, then the next. Sitting, talking, passing the food around the table. It was a nice experience. And the ambiance was nice, too. Plain, wooden chairs, white tile flooring, vintage holiday decor, it was like being in a grandma's house. Very comforting. The food came out one or two dishes at a time. Everything was good enough, but it also was apparent that it was mass produced in a catering style. The basics like the bacon and ham were very good, but the fried chicken, I wouldn't take a big piece, save your stomach room for other things. Whatever other things you grab, make sure you grab a biscuit and get ahold of their homemade peach preserves. That stuff was 10/10 excellent. It's so good, they jar it and sell it at the front desk. I totally recommend. Overall, breakfast is one of the most important meal of the day, so if you find yourself in Nashville, I would implore you to come and check out this city staple of over 30 years now.

My dad loves grouper and when I saw fried grouper on the menu I knew he had to try it. Only problem was they served it on Tuesday and he wouldn't get in until Thursday. Cut to my insane ass showing up and asking them if they could please serve it on that specific Thursday because my dad wanted to try it but he wouldn't get in on time and I wanted to make his trip special because I am truly a daddy's girl and he's my fav bestie right now. The small signage made it a little difficult to find inside the Marriott (see pictures), but from the moment we walked in, heard the live piano player and saw the dining area - we knew this would be a great experience. We started off by sharing orders of Lobster Bisque (see picture) and Burrata with Toast (see pictures). We really enjoyed both of them - the Lobster Bisque was so creamy and smooth and the Burrata was cool, fresh and clean. They were a great combination to start our dinner experience and I would recommend both of them. Since it was a Friday during lent, my wife opted for the BBQ Shrimp Pasta (see picture) and I went with the Daily Fish Special on Blue Corn Grits (see picture). As we always do when we go out, we shared our plates and really enjoyed both of them. The BBQ Shrimp Pasta was rich, buttery and smooth and the Fish Special was a tasty white, flaky and blackened fish served on a bed of rich, creamy blue corn grits. The chicken was super flavorful, juicy, easy to eat, and definitely not dry at all. You can tell why this place is so popular. I'd 100% come back again whenever we're in town. The service was also amazing! The lady at the register was so sweet and welcoming, and honestly the whole place just has such a fun vibe to it. If you're visiting Nashville or even local, definitely give this spot a try. Thank you Hattie B's for such a great first Nashville hot chicken experience!

I ordered 3 piece whole wings, with 2 sides. Baked beans and southern greens. I ordered the peach cobbler à la mode and was happy the cashier recommended I pay first and they would bring it out when I was ready to eat it. - she did just that, without my prompting. I ordered the spice level HOT and it was good and spicy. If you don't like spice, get the medium spice level. The sweet tea and the in house made lemonade tasted awesome. I refilled 3 times... but also because they had the best ice My friend had the tenders and said they were very good as well along with the banana pudding! The resturant was clean and accommodates large groups as well. I did not like the baked beans but my friend did so they did not go to waste.
