It's been on my bucket list ever since just for the novelty of visiting a popular franchise bravely debuting in an undeveloped area hidden along the river. This Shake Shack was the first business to boldly open in the new River North development which still remains in its infancy in mid-2026. It's a 120-acre project that barely has 11 acres of progress. There isn't much traffic in River North yet as only two of the many planned apartment buildings have opened, just enough to obscure views of Shake Shack from the interstate. With so little development so far and obstructed sightlines, you just have to know this restaurant is there, hence the secret location. I've noticed that the secret Shake Shack has quite the steady takeout business all day. But even during the busy lunch hour, if you dine in, you'll essentially have the place to yourself. It's a fun experience without crowds nor traffic. That will change once River North is fully developed by 2031, including Oracle's world headquarters which will complete its relocation from Silicon Valley to Austin to Nashville. But you still have a few years to enjoy the restaurant's secrecy. The community also offers free parking for the first two hours. Best of all, while you eat you have views overlooking the adjacent Cumberland River and downtown Nashville. With indoor seating for up to 180 people and a spacious back patio on the river, they're more than ready for the future! Unfortunately, it's not as good as the other Shake Shack stores in town. Hopefully that will change with time. Believe me, I'm a Shack aficionado, an OG fan who patronized the original franchise in New York's Madison Square Park. The disappointment included soggy buns - I'm not sure how that's possible - and lackluster West Coast Loaded Fries in which the flavors were completely off. But it's still worth a stop at the Shake Shack with the best view and total peace and quiet (for now) before its popularity skyrockets!
