A very nice and friendly place to eat. They serve a great breakfast in which I always choose the egg's, hash browns, sausage and toast and when I eat there for lunch or dinner, I always order the Chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy on the chicken fry & also the mashed potatoes. Nice little family owned restaurant. I've had several different meals as this is my dad's go to place. Chopped steak is great. My favorite is chicken fried chicken meal. The chicken is lightly breaded just like I like it. Most places drowned it with breading. So I enjoy the light breading. I also enjoy the all meat skillet they have for breakfast which is another benefit here they have breakfast all the time . The staff are extremely friendly with everyone. My fiance came in to your restaurant september 3rd 2025 at 1100 am I ordered a chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and corn my fiance ordered a chicken fried chicken mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. Starting with what I ordered, a chicken fried steak anywhere else I have been is battered and floured and then fried what I got was an 8 ounce steak fried on a flat top and covered with gravy that is not a chicken fried steak the dinner rolls were the best part of my meal. My fiances chicken fried chicken was at least battered and fried but they just put the gravy in a bowl as for the mashed potatoes and gravy they both cold we ate what we could but we won't be back the wait staff was wonderful but the food was disgusting . Been there 2 times to many. 1st time my wife's eggs were raw, she eats over medium eggs, asked for white toast-got burnt wheat toast, asked for creamer-got soured milk-could smell it. 2nd time went in by myself. Got there when they first opened. Rude tattooed waitress, cold coffee-opening time- better coffee from a MRE, chicken fried steak was a brick, hash browns burnt on outside-raw on inside & cold. Then the cashier/owner asked how things were when checked out. Told her the place had issues-she coped an attitude & rolled her eyes. Waste of money. Service was fair, the people were nice, the food I would rate as somewhere between hospital dining and TV dinner. I ordered the fish and my friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger. My fish dinner (served without a side of tarter sauce) consisted of two small thin triangular shaped wafers of dry overcooked fish, the sides I chose were beets (fair) green beans which were seasoned and delicious. the high point of the meal was a side dish with a tasty cinnamon roll. My friend rated the bacon cheeseburger as a 6 and the tiny portion of crinkle cut frozen French fries as a -0-. Overall the entire dining experience was highly forgettable. We love The Country Cafe because of the large portions, the home-cooked meals, and the value. You can't go wrong with the chicken fried steak lunch or the chicken fried steak breakfast . Chicken fried chicken is great as well. All meals come with a basket of cinnamon rolls and homemade white rolls, which melt in your mouth! Most full size meals are $8, which is an unbelievable value! The Service has always been outstanding. Probably the only negative might be the atmosphere, which is a little date, dingy, and cold. read more

We're rarely in this part of town. We were just discussing where to stop for lunch when we drove by. The parking lot was busy (1:15 PM on a Saturday) which is usually a good indicator. We decided to give them a shot. We enjoyed their fresh iced tea while choosing our meal. I had their liver and onions and my husband chose the cod. Our salads arrived quickly. They were average, at best. Just a small plate of bagged lettuce, cabbage and shredded carrots. So sad that so many places treat salad as a nothing part of the meal. The cod was above average, especially since you don't get fresh cod in Kansas. My liver and onions was quite good though the potion was small. The mashed potatoes were watery and saved only by some pretty tasty gravy. My husband RAVED about his okra. My green beans actually had very good flavor with no additional salt needed. The dinner and cinnamon rolls were a real treat! Hot and fresh. YUM! Our waitress was very good and the restaurant clean. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch and will go back. read more

Finally made it back to this restaurant after 6 months. My elderly parents took me there for dinner for my birthday. (At 62, I'm still their little girl.) We all ended up ordering the same thing from the seniors menu. Roast beef dinner. It was pretty darn tasty. It came with our choice of potato, and we all ordered mashed potatoes with gravy. The amount of beef was way more than we could eat, but it was very good. The gravy and mashed potatoes, yummy. We did have to order a separate side for a veggie, because the dinner is just meat and potatoes. After we started eating, we realized it didn't come with any rolls or bread. Our fault, we didn't read the menu as well as we should have. So we asked for a roll for each, and they brought us 3 huge yeast rolls, nice and hot, that smelled and tasted so good. It was a really good meal, after we figured out what the heck we were doing. And, if we received such a generous dinner from the senior menu, I can only imagine how much you get with a regular dinner. My parents said they had been in there last week for breakfast, and had a good meal then, also. (My mother loves that they leave a coffee pot at the table if you order coffee. Refill without hunting someone down!) We will be going back, and it will be sooner than 6 months! Very nice wait staff. I took one pic, and now can't find it, darn it. Sorry. I recommend this place. Next time, I'm trying the patty melt sandwich. Always on the lookout for a good patty melt! read more

We just had breakfast here. Wonderful! The biscuits were homemade, soft, hot and fresh. Big portions, cooked just right. I had the country skillet. Very tasty but I had to take about half of it home. The service is excellent and friendly. Can't wait to try lunch and dinner. A new favorite place! read more

These guys serve a great breakfast and enough good things can't be said about that. Dinner items off the menu tend to be large portions and pretty good, but I would think twice before ordering the "special" of the day. Several of these I've had seemed to have been made earlier in the day and kept on a hot until service. I've also been served a baked potato at dinner hours that was past it's prime. The special meatloaf is bland and flavorless. Dinner salads are nothing special and appear to be fresh out of the bag from the grocery store with nothing added. Fried items such as chicken, catfish, and chicken fried steak are all excellent and a good sized meal. In general this is a great place for breakfast, and a good place for dinner with little added caution. read more

This place used to be in Haysville and lived it! Was so sad to see them go. Found them again and this will become one of my new favs for breakfast. I had the veggie omelet and while I wasn't sure about the "melted American cheese" it actually was awesome!! The omelet was delicate and creamy. My mom ordered a pancake that melted in her mouth and asked for fried diced potatoes, "crisp" and they WERE!! It's so hard to get them just right, but this place did it! I really enjoyed the Country Cafe. A co-worker friend and I stopped by this place for lunch. He had the chicken fried steak and I had the steak and cod combo. All of it was great. The chicken fried steak was very obviously homemade. The steak was beaten flat as a board. It was so tender my friend was able to cut into it with just his fork. The batter was light and not over-seasoned(salty) as chicken-fried steaks tend to be. My steak was cooked medium just as I requested. And my cod, although frozen, was of very good quality. The cinnamon rolls were excellent as well. But I was so stuffed by the time I got to mine that I just wolfed it down. Our server was nice and polite. And the owner stopped by our table a couple of times to ask how we were. I'd like to try their breakfast items sometime soon. read more

My husband hates breakfast places, but I wanted breakfast. Couldn't get in to Fat Ernies, Riverside Cafe was closed on Pawnee, so decided to try this one. The waitress was very good, my breakfast was ok. I am sure my husband's chicken fried steak was leftover from yesterday, and refried today. It was burnt and hard. I would have sent it back, but he won't do that, afraid the cook will spit in his food. We left, and once again, he thinks another restaurant is disgusting. So disappointed. read more

The Country Breakfast Cafe is a solid example of your average American breakfast diner. I didn't find anything spectacular about it. In Wichita, you have to give some effort to weed through all the commercial chain restaurants and fast food joints to find privately owned eating establishments. So although this Country Cafe may be mediocre in terms of food quality and service, I'd rather sit down here for breakfast any day of the week rather than contribute to the commercial enterprises with the intention and prayer of keeping self-owned eateries alive. read more

Had the cheeseburger and substituted fries for onion rings which cost an extra .99. Very disappointed because only got 4 onion rings. If you are going to charge extra you shouldn't be so skimpy on what you serve. Who gives just 4 onion rings in an order? read more

I had noticed the restaurant as I drove past a few times, seeing their sign saying they serve breakfast all day long and told myself that I need to try them soon. Well, today was the day; I went in for breakfast and was very glad I did! I went in and was seated directly. The decor was simple but nice, with plenty of natural light coming in from north-facing windows. The restaurant itself was spotlessly clean and good smells coming from the kitchen. This being my 1st visit, I started with coffee while I looked over the menu - which offered a number of interesting choices. It was clear the classic combinations were readily available and some curious variations were also offered. After asking a few questions about preparation (I'm picky about my omelets) I decided to go with the meatlovers omelet and hash browns, with a side of grits. I am of the opinion that any restaurant in the southern half of the continental US should be able to produce a decent bowl of grits, and they didn't disappoint - they were just right. Then I turned to the omelet which was prepared just as I asked and nestled next to some perfectly cooked hash brown potatoes. If you've ever been served raw on the inside and greasy brown on the outside potatoes, you know what I mean when I say they were fresh, nicely browned, cooked through, not dry and not greasy. They were the perfect complement to my fabulous omelet. I washed this meal down with several cups of coffee that I wish I could make as well at home; fresh, hot and not overly acidic - just right for breakfast. While enjoying my breakfast I chose to look at the rest of the menu and noticed other interesting selections as well. There were some old-time favorites you don't see a lot, like an open faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled liver and onions, etc. and some interesting things like chicken fried steak (with a real steak), catfish, and nightly dinner specials like meatloaf, roast beef and something they describe as "baked steak" which has me curious enough to go back and try some time. If you're getting tired of the "cookie-cutter" franchise restaurants and want something satisfying, tasty and reasonably priced, give this place a try. Food was okay but when we paid with a card our waitress charged us twice. Normally i would think it was an honest mistake but the total was one cent apart and charged twice. Hubby and I went with a large group. I didn't hear anyone raving about their food, but no major complaints either. Portion sizes were large. My cod was tough like the frying oil was too hot, but the flavor was good and there were three large pieces. All of the other plates of food I saw better than mine. Overall a must eating establishment. The prices are amazing, the portions are amazing, Our server (I believe her name was Ashley) was triple amazing. The entire staff was so attentive. When I normally go to cafes I might be able to find 3 good choices (often times not that many). My wife and I were first time customers. Our server asked us if we had decided on what we wanted and my exact response was "just bring me one of everything". The dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls are out of this world. So is the bread pudding. The diced fried potatoes may have been the best I have ever had (and I do love fried potatoes). They were cooked to perfection. The pancakes are also very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try other menu items like the chicken fried steak, corned beef hash, beer battered cod, patty melt, etc. You must check out their menu.
