I love this place!! I stopped in when spending a week in Boston to get items to freeze for fall when I was done traveling. I started defrosting them this week and am so impressed!! The rolls I bought are so soft and fluffy. The cinnamon cookies are melt in your mouth delicious. It's tough to find nut free baked goods that actually are delicious but this place nailed it! I also tried the flatbread crisps in everything flavor and they were really flavorful. Five stars for food and friendliness as I had a ton of questions. I'll be back! read more

Blacker's is along my jogging route so I've passed by the purple sign quite a few times. They pride themselves on being nut-free and dairy-free, so great for anyone with allergies (and even for those who don't). The online ordering system is a breeze to use, though I advise checking their hours before you go. Originally I had planned to put in an order for Saturday morning pick-up, only to see that they're closed on Saturday and I'd have to go grab it on Friday instead. If you go anytime Friday morning, just be prepared for a long line for everyone else with weekend orders, though the line moves quickly and the employees are efficient and kind. If anything, some of the other customers were kind of rude and demanding, and the staff couldn't be more patient. Brought their apple pie to a game night and it was definitely quickly devoured, always a great sign. Generous chunks of apple filling, not too sweet and good amount of nutmeg and cinnamon. My favorite part was the sugared lattice on top, the crust, and the doughy bottom. Recommend popping it in the oven to toast it up and serving with vanilla ice cream. Next time: I'll have to try the rugelach, babka, and challah. Parking: a few spots right out front, which fill up quickly, and a lot of parking available along Commonwealth. read more

Reviewing this place on every site I go to. The second my party took a bite of the cake we were blown away! I ordered chocolate with chocolate mousse, raspberry frosting (!!!!) And chocolate ganache. The raspberry frosting had such great flavour! Like, I can't even properly explain how great this cake tasted. I would order from here even if their weren't lactose free people eating it. I ordered over the phone and just said it was for a 31 yo man so just modern decoration. They did a phenomenal job and were an absolute pleasure to work with. I haven't been in the store, but my boyfriend picked up some of their pound cake/breads and they are also delicious. So happy to have found this place! read more

Rugelach: If all items are vegan, that would explain the rugelach flavor coming mostly from sugar, and not butter like at the best Jewish bakeries in NYC. The texture and dough flavor is similar to a Dunkin Donuts chocolate chip muffin top--which ain't bad, but ain't NYC rugelach. Fillings were the highlight, with a chewy gel on the raspberry and a dark chocolate with intensity. Gingerbread "Person": Yup, I guess this is an equal opportunity bake shop. Closer to a cookie texture, and thinner, than the classic bendable/chewy gingerbread man, and no raisins. Pleasant enough, but glad we bought only one. Babka: This is what we came for, but it was pre-packaged on the shelf and not in the case. It had the appearance of a grocery store version, so we passed. Loved everything we purchased at Blackers for our 1st Chanukah as a blended family. The Muffins are amazing and so incredibly soft and tender for being dairy free. I live in NY so I sent an email inquiring about mail order, Karen (one of the owners) responded asking for a phone number and best time to call. She called the next day, we chatted a bit, I ordered the small Passover box, which contains brownies, a small sponge cake, 4 macaroons (either dipped in chocolate or plain) and matzah crunch. The box arrived in 2 days and was well packaged, so no damage to any of the items. Hubby loves the brownies, the macaroons are yummy, haven't yet tried the sponge cake BUT and I'm leaving the best for last the matzah crunch is AMAZING! I have to keep myself from just devouring the entire thing. I'm somewhat glad I don't live near Blacker's Bakeshop because I'd be in there all the time. This place is the most amazing bakery for cakes, and the ONLY place I go to for my son's birthday cakes. Anne (she's so nice) does an incredible job every year decorating his cakes and they are the only cakes that I've ever had (egg free and dairy free chocolate cake) that actually taste like delicious cake!! I promise you won't be able to tell that there's no dairy or egg! I've personally tried baking vegan items for my son and they always end up tasting just so-so. Blacker's provides bread, rolls, and challah to Zayde's Kosher Market, which is where I bought a loaf of their marble rye bread. I regret to say that it was completely flavourless and textureless. In a blindfold test, I would be hard put to know what it was that I was eating. My one-star rating is based solely on the quality of that loaf; I'm not familiar with their other products. read more

This is an outstanding full-service, allergy-free bakery. No bagels, but excellent challahs in many different shapes and sizes. Everything here is fresh and many items are served warm. Muffins and rugelach are exceptionally good. Cakes are amazing! The open view into the back makes it fun to watch the care and professionalism with which their cakes are designed and customized. The counter staff is exceptionally courteous and welcoming. A woman out back -- reportedly one of the owners -- is a little less happy, but her daughter and retail colleagues are truly knowledgeable and nice. BECCA MADE MY 8 YEAR OLD'S DREAM COME TRUE when she provided 2 pastry bags (1 blue frosting and 1 chocolate frosting) for his vision of Sweet Heaps, whereby his classmates could one at a time, open their mouth and get simultaneous squirts of frosting and whipped cream into their mouths. The best thing is no nuts. My oldest daughter is allergic and we come here for birthday cakes. We aren't kosher so the fast it's closed on Saturday is something for us to remember. I like this place because of the vegan options that they offer. Per my research, it's the only kosher bakery in the Greater Boston area that sells vegan challah. I have tried their rugelach, raspberry bars, challah and gingerbread people cookies (all vegan) and been pleased. I just wish that they had more vegan goodies on a regular basis in the case (not requiring a special order). Recently purchased a raisin challah and a apple bupke. I was referred to Blackers by a cousin of ours, whose husband was a baker for years. On occasions, my wife will bake a challah from scratch which ie excellent. This challah was so good I am returning today to purchase another one and a raisin bupke.
