It's a great place for breakfast. I got blueberry pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Everything was incredibly filling and delicious. They apparently use locally picked blueberries for the pancakes. The food tasted homemade and was exactly what I wanted out of a small town diner. It's small and can get pretty busy. Service is good, but not great if you're in a hurry. We were at a weekend event at Gingerman and looking for a restaurant that wasn't in South Haven. So we gave this place a try. It's about 4 miles East of Gingerman. PROs: Food was very good. Not too busy for breakfast. We had the haystack, the blueberry pancake, the country skillet, and bacon for breakfast. The pancake was huge and the size of the plate. Server was nice. They have 2 seating areas, one closer to the kitchen with no windows and another one in an enclosed patio type area with lots of windows. We liked it so much for breakfast that we went back for lunch a couple of days later. The first time, we sat near the kitchen. The second time, we sat in the enclosed patio. Both were nice. CONs: Coffee is weak. Tap water tastes metallic. At lunchtime, it is very busy, so it takes a long time to get food. In summary, we'd definitely go back for the food, but would avoid the tap water. We liked having a place to go that wasn't in South Haven, since downtown South Haven is super busy and hard to find parking. Country Fare has their own parking lot, although it's small and gravel topped. For lunch, the lot was full, so we parked directly across the street in Family Dollar's paved lot. read more

We were out visiting estate sales and found this place on Yelp. OMG. Fabulous breakfast, sweet server and very reasonable prices. Bacon (4 strips), eggs over easy (perfectly cooked), hash browns (crispy and tasty) and a biscuit. Wife had one egg, one strip and a blueberry pancake (Grand Junction IS the blueberry capital of MI). If you were to look for a perfect example of "down home cooking", it would have to be this place. From the old school decor, staff, and local patrons to the food, it's on point. Our server, Marsha, was awesome. Great suggestions, opinions that were thoughtful as well as funny ("never trust a skinny waitress" was one example), and a genuine warmth and friendliness that keeps people coming back. Grand Junction is the blueberry capital of Michigan so I definitely tried their blueberry pancakes. Well...Just one as it was over a foot across! Forget "farm to table" hype...these were grown a few blocks away! Next was this sinful thing called the Haystack: a huge pile of hash browns, 3 eggs, sausage gravy, and cheese along with toast and sausage links. My husband and I travel from Chicago for a quick trip. The town was good, locals were nice. We decided to stop at this breakfast place at 8:30. Small typical restaurant. My husband had the country fried steak, it was very salty. I had pancakes and bacon which were good. Here's where we had a bad experience, the table next to us paid when we arrived, everyone left but this old white guy with a veteran green hat. He position his chair facing our table and proceeded to watch us eat. While shaking his leg, out of frustration and anger. You can tell he was a regular by how comfortable he was making us feel uncomfortable. I kept staring back, even after my husband got up and paid he kept looking at my son and I with anger. My husband saw my discomfort and said, "don't say anything he's sick in the head from racism". The waitress were nice but they rushed us out!!. Picking up our plates when I wasn't done packing. They saw Whatt that man was doing.I come from the industry and the waitress are always aware of everything in that building. The manager or workers could've done more. Espicially since he paid at the beginning of our arrival they could've shooed him away. but just this is just a warning for any one coming out of town to always carry . Had time for another visit today. A new addition for extra seating offers sunny comfort. Now serving brewed iced tea; thank you very much. Went with a traditional breakfast and really enjoyed it. Great bacon; eggs a little overcooked; home fries aggressively seasoned and some garlic in the mix tasted a little burnt. Had a bite of the Belgian Waffle; seemed a little tough to me. My wife and I went hiking the Kal Haven trails but stopped here for a little breakfast prior to going. We had great service. The prices were very fair. The food was excellent. Definitely will go back. It's a very small, unique mom-and-pop place not real large or fancy , but these are the places we enjoy and try to support. read more

Mom and Pop type breakfast/lunch place. It is clean and the food was hot, fresh and good. We split a Haystack; made of eggs, hashbrowns with cheese and gravy. The iced tea came with fresh lemon on request. It is located literally across the tracks from the kal-haven trail, 10 miles outside of South Haven. Country Fare is right up the road from where we were visiting some relatives, and we are kicking ourselves that we had yet to ever try it until now. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but they are producing some mighty fine food. We picked up stuff to go: bacon mushroom swiss burger (w/fries and slaw), cheese burger (w/fries and applesauce), grilled cheese, and a breakfast sandwich - bacon, egg, and cheese on an english muffin. Everything was excellent! The burgers were so juicy, and just perfect. The fries were hand cut. All bacon involved in the meal was cooked just right. The next day, as we were headed out of town, we swung by to pick up a couple grilled cinnamon rolls. So good. They offer a pretty extensive breakfast menu - served all day, plus a bunch of sandwiches - reuben, fish, chicken, philly steak, and all kinds of burgers to name a few. There are also appetizers, wraps, a couple dinner items, and more. I'm excited for the next time we are visiting Grand Junction. Not only will we enjoy our time with our family, but we can grab some fantastic food too! I can't get that burger out of my head. read more

Small country restaurant with friendly servers. After waiting for 5 minutes and being ignored I asked for a menu. The waitresses didn't seem very experienced. I ordered the haystack breakfast which said scrambled eggs. I asked to cook my eggs over easy and I was told they were too busy to do that! WHAT??? How much more difficult is it to do over easy than scrambled??? So much for customer service! They seemed short of help both in the kitchen and on the floor. 5 stars because it was a completely unexpected, wholly satisfying experience. We were bicycling the Kal-Haven Trail from South Haven and at the 10 mile mark almost brushed by Grand Junction. Lunch pangs calling, we stumbled upon Country Fare which, at first glance, looks like a run-down ghost town kind of place where you expect a combination server-cook to dust off the grill to make whatever available thing he's got to cook. But on closer inspection there's something going on here. There's a neon-inked whiteboard sign out front announcing the daily specials that imply creative fresh food and a distinct welcome vibe. There's chatter from within that suggests a positive experience. The five of us enter and are greeted with warm enthusiasm by two local women who happily put a couple of table together to accommodate the 5 of us. The small room is half full, a nice combination of passersby and regulars - individuals who clearly eat here every day at the same time bc their place is set for them with their beverage just a minute or 2 before they enter. A good sign. The place is only open until 2p, so no one's burned out and service comes with a ready smile. We ate omelettes, burgers, and breakfasty stuff covered in sausage gravy. All excellent. We entered what appeared to be a dilapidated environment and left chatting up its remarkable charms. Would happily, enthusiastically, hungrily return. read more

Stopped in for breakfast after a friend I had been camping with recommended it. Doesn't look like much from the outside, just a small place off the road with a small country feel interior. We were starving and needed coffee and the staff went above and beyond to accomodate our group! We were even served an "appetizer" blueberry pancake which was the size of a large pizza and was absolutely fantastic! I ordered a skillet which was fresh, hot and delicious and the perfect breakfast before hitting the road. The worst meal I've had in years. First off, the water was a little yellow, and tasted awful. The fries and bacon were both obviously reheated from earlier in the day. Hamburger looked like a frozen Gordon food service patty and the cheese was not melted. Even my 8 year old would not eat her food. The breakfast my wife ordered wasn't any better. read more
