I was confused because we were told we could use the heated pool and then, when we went to go use it, there were multiple signs saying it's closed. The walls are thin, you can hear everything occurring in the hallway. Our room needed love. There was lots of dust build up, the television was extremely small, and the bed frame was very flimsy. The mattress was also quite hard and it was difficult to sleep throughout the night. I was looking forward to the speakeasy but it was closed throughout our stay. I'm not sure if it's closed for good or just wasn't open when I was there. There was no information given about it. We went out and came back to the Inn around 8 pm, there was an empty bottle of wine and dirty glasses sitting around the entrance area. I'm not sure if that was due to available tastings at the Inn or if someone just left it out because we were not informed of tasting offerings at the Inn. Breakfast was served between 8-10 and it was soggy French toast, warm yogurt and room temperature orange juice. All in all, I would not stay here again and I would choose to stay farther away at a nicer place.

The Lucy suite even has its own little balcony/patio with stairs to the ground level. The balcony/patio overlooks the parking lot. The only downside to the room is that it is in an older building and like all old buildings... the floor creaks. So, trying to walk around quietly is not going to happen. WiFi worked great for us. We had no issues logging in nor the connectivity. The food is tasty. We enjoyed all the breakfasts, and I especially liked the selection of teas. Coffee was abundant and there was even a tasty OJ! The only downside was the water dispenser ran out of water on our last night/morning. Thankfully, we found some water in the little fridge by the back door. In the afternoon, they leave out a tray of cookies and some wine. If it's busy and you get there late, it's entirely possible that there is none left of either. (Which happened to us on Saturday when we returned at 4:30... no big deal. But wanted to point out that it does happen, so don't get your heart set on there being some when you get there.) The location is Fantastic! You are like 2 blocks from The Main Plaza. You are 1 block from a fantastic Bubble Bar if you like sparkling wines and champagnes. You are 1 block from a 3-star Michelin restaurant - Single Thread. There are 3 coffee shops that are nearby. And if you forgot something... the CVS is like 2 blocks away. The point being... it is super close to everything that you don't need your car. We parked ours for 3 days in the little parking lot behind the inn and didn't move it until we departed on Sunday. The menu selection is extensive and generous. Every evening there is a happy hour with a great selection of local wine and a snack platter that is delightful! They also serve warm chocolate chip cookies. This is an incredible to meet new people. Each night we had stimulating conversation with guests who traveled far and wide. We were late for dinner both nights because of the great discussions we had. Briana was the manager on site and she is incredible! She needs to teach a master class on hospitality. She thought of everything and was so warm and accommodating. We had a special and memorable time. Despite several emails exchanged beforehand and repeated references to personalizing the experience, the staff initially got my name wrong. We were then directed to look through a small kitchen window without any explanation, context, or narrative about what we were seeing. After a few minutes, a small tea drink was served through the window, but we were then left standing in a cramped entry area for roughly 20 minutes with no meaningful interaction from the three people at the desk. During that time, we watched other parties arrive and be escorted elsewhere while no one checked in with us or explained the delay. Eventually, someone from the dining room asked whether we would like to be seated. By that point, I was already frustrated. Once seated, our server quickly described several small dishes arranged on a flower-and-moss-covered faux log, then left before we had any meaningful sense of the menu, the number of courses, or the direction of the meal. When the sommelier arrived and asked us to choose wine or pairings, I felt unable to make an informed decision because I did not know what food was coming. I ultimately chose the wine pairing simply because it seemed like the safest option given the lack of information. The service throughout the evening did not reflect what I would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant. There was little storytelling, little hospitality, and very little sense that the experience was being guided with care. There were several good courses, a few that felt unusual or less successful, and a couple of truly strong dishes, including the best duck I have had to date. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and thoughtful in discussing each pairing and in making recommendations to other members of our party. His service stood apart from the rest of the experience. When we arrived, the bed was not there and she didn't bring one, as she said it was too heavy to carry. She asked if he could sleep on the bench or on the short couch that he was longer than. So disheartening and insulting. There was no key or code for us to lock up our belongings. We had to rely on people just being honest and not stealing. We actually took valuables with us when we left for dinner. Breakfast: She had asked us what we liked and asked my son what he liked. He said he would try the stuffed French toast. She brought out the smallest plate of scrambled egg whites, ONE microwaved Eggo waffle, a slice of watermelon with some blueberries and cantaloupe. The meal he had could not satisfy a 3 year old's stomach. My husband and I had to give him a portion of our already small portion of stuffed French toast. One of the most hurtful parts of the trip was being isolated from the rest of the group during breakfast. She asked us to sit in the sunroom which is not set up for proper dining (table was too small and chairs are for lounging not eating breakfast). We felt treated like 2nd class customers, maybe because she has a problem with kids? Or, worse, a problem with my skin color or with my husband's foreign accent? We're just baffled and left to wonder. She didn't suggest that any other guest be isolated to the sunroom for dining. If I could give 0 stars for service, I would. I've paid a lot less for hotels that have included way better birthday amenities. 3. The room is nice but nothing exceptional. 4. Smores hour is cute but the smores are definitely stale. 5. I dropped something behind the tub and it was clear things had not been cleaned back there. Everything else was very clean, and that is important to me. 6. The restaurant is overrated. Go to other spots for the vibe and food. The pros: 1. I absolutely love the connections that this hotel has to wineries and wine tasting. We would come back just for this as staying at farmhouse gets you exceptional service at the partner wineries. This is what makes it special! 2. The wine happy hour hosts were also great. I enjoyed the homemade marshmallows at the s'mores table outside. Again, small touches of luxury and love. We felt like we had the entire grounds to ourselves most of the time. You get a tasting and can purchase a bottle (or more) to enjoy. Some brought their own snacks, otherwise no nibbles were served. We had plans in the area and didn't eat on-site. I also did not get a chance to try the Wellness Barn, but I would love to go. There is an outdoor pool, ice cold when I was there. However, the hot tub looked inviting. Also, we try to be conscious of not having our room cleaned every day, so we asked for every other day, which in the time we stayed there worked out to be only once. They made the bed and left towels. They did not clean or replace the water glasses we used or the coffee cups and did not refill the coffee creamers in the room. The patio was lovely, but the chairs they had to sit on are torture devices. Metal bands for the seat were so uncomfortable. We had to take small pillows from the room to sit on. I'm sure we're not the first. Would we stay there again? No.

Every afternoon there are freshly baked cookies and a bottle of wine for the guests to share. There is a beautiful front porch with comfortable furniture and it's very inviting. When we arrived we met our "inmates", who were sitting on the front porch partaking of the afternoon wine. We started talking and ended up having wonderful conversation with them every time we were together, which was in the afternoon and at breakfast. This was very special and doesn't happen as easily at hotels. The breakfast menu was posted several days in advance, and if you wanted to make an alteration, you needed to let the staff know. One morning they were supposed to serve breakfast burritos, which are not my favorite. I let them know and they served me an alternative which was perfectly adequate and enjoyable. I appreciated that. The Calderwood Inn is very close to downtown Healdsburg, and there is a wonderful walking path that leads you right to town. Easily accessible and quite nice. There is also Big John's market nearby. In case you're starved! You can easily walk over to Big John's and get anything on planet Earth. There is plenty of parking at calderwood inn and that's a plus. If I were to stay at Calderwood Inn again, I would definitely choose my room, and not leave it up to the innkeeper. She asked if we wanted to order it then and said it would take about 15 minutes, but it had been too late and I did not want to eat my main alone, 30 mins after everyone had finished their food. I was the only person in the table without their food, and I received no apology whatsoever in either moments - when all the mains arrived and the mistake was caught, or after asking when my main was coming and realizing I never got my food.
