Came in to enjoy a family dinner that ended up being very disappointing. TL;DR I never received my main course and the server didn't even bother apologizing. The place is beautifully designed and the dishes were tasty, but our server did not read back our order and did not listen carefully enough which ended up with me not getting my main course. Once all the main courses were brought to the table, I was the only one without their main. I specifically said "That's not what I ordered. I ordered the cod" to one of the guys delivering the food. Then our server came and said she thought we were splitting the cod. I had to reiterate that we each ordered the cod. After 10-15 minutes passed, everyone finished their food, so we asked if my main is coming anytime soon and the server said again that we ordered one cod to split. We explained again that we each ordered an individual main. She asked if we wanted to order it then and said it would take about 15 minutes, but it had been too late and I did not want to eat my main alone, 30 mins after everyone had finished their food. I was the only person in the table without their food, and I received no apology whatsoever in either moments - when all the mains arrived and the mistake was caught, or after asking when my main was coming and realizing I never got my food. I was very excited to come with my family and left very disappointed. The server did not seem to care much, and that was the worst part of "hospitality". For such a gorgeous place with such great food it's a shame this is the level of service I received. read more

The décor, ambiance, and overall vibe are truly extraordinary. The drive up the hill to Madrona Manor alone sets the tone--it's absolutely beautiful. We can't speak to the food since we were there on New Year's Eve and, unfortunately, no food was served. That said, the cocktails were spectacular, the service impeccable, and the bartender nothing short of a magician. The New Year's Eve photo booth was a fun touch, and the décor struck the perfect balance--classy, understated, and never overdone. A special shout-out to Judd, one of the bartending extraordinaires. His method of crafting an Old Fashioned is superb. The DJ kept the energy up with fun, cool tunes throughout the evening. We would absolutely love to return to enjoy a full meal here. read more

I went there for my anniversary dinner the staff and the food, ambience was amazing. I would highly recommend and plan on going back.

We were seated in an open area with bamboo chairs and cushioned seating. The cushions are dirty and look as though they havent been cleaned in years. The tables are very close together and the next door conversation was intrusive. At one point a waitress stepped between our table and our neighbors, even though this could not be done without her large butt hanging over our table. How rude, clueless, and unprofessional. My salmon was far too salty. My wife ordered an $18 salad topped with a $12 order of grilled chicken. The salad dressing was not uniformly applied, and for this reason some was overly seasoned and some not seasoned enough. The thinly sliced chicken was too dry to be eaten with pleasure, and the total of 6 little strips for $12 also hard to swallow. We live locally, in Asti, and havent been here in years. The place is in a serious decline and we will likely never go back. The service was reasonable however I shouldnt have to suggest that the waitress launder her blouse. The receipt has a 1% "Zero Foodprint Donation". A mandatory charge is not a "donation". Its another money suck, just like the "2% Employer Mandate" that also appears on the bill. Cant the restaurant pay their employees enough without trying to squeeze it out of the customers? Why not let the public know about these chicken shit charges ahead of time? To confirm the reservation a credit card must be provided ahead of time which "holds" the reservation. If a reservation is cancelled without enough notice a $25 fee per person is charged to the card. If you want to spend too much on unprofessionally prepared ingredients that are destroyed in the preparation and brought to the table by a Ringling Brothers cast of characters, then this is your place What a colossal waste of our time and money. I enjoy visiting the Madrona for the beautiful views and refreshing cocktails and snacks. The inn has been restored in the last 10 years and has been transformed into a lovely escape from the hustle in town. On a day with good weather, it's a great spot to enjoy the views on the patio with a cocktail in hand and the tasty bites on the menu. My favorites include the deviled eggs and the caviar topped onion dip. The inn also has a wonderful outdoor covered deck which is also a perfect dining experience. The service is always on point and one of my tried and true favorites on the menu is the burger which is served with beef fat fries which are amazing on their own pairs with a crisp glass of bubbly. If you're feeling like being adventurous and would like a break from your standard drink order, I am also a fan signature cocktails.; one of favorites include La sirena which it's refreshing and hits the spot when you want a break from the wonderful wine options from the county. read more

The restaurant had very few patrons despite having a lot of staff. We dined there as we stayed at the hotel and thought it'll be nice to stay in and not drive for dinner. The food was as underwhelming as it is over-rated. The menu needs more imagination and practical execution. Even an appetizer plate of deviled eggs was done wrong- had only 3 half eggs. This is something that you share with the other person and 3 is an odd number, besides seriously being overpriced. Pasta was just a sparse plate with a ball of fine spaghetti. Very little garnish, side accompaniments on the plate. The menu is so small there isn't much choice. Look elsewhere in the town near the plaza for much better food experiences at this price point. read more

We hadn't really heard of this restaurant, but we were staying at the hotel and knew we'd be arriving in the later part of dinner time, after driving 7 hours, and it made sense to not have to go off the property for dinner. Well, we are so glad we made that decision. The meal was wonderful! The restaurant itself is lovely and we sat out on the big covered patio which was gorgeous. Charles, the maitre'd (and all around everything at the inn) was wonderful, as was Madison, our server. My husband started with the "Magroni" their twist on the Negroni, and he loved it! Had it again before going out the next night, and is looking to recreate it. I had a glass of delicious champagne. We started with the Madrona Salad, which was excellent. Apparently they grow a lot of their own produce and you could tell...it was so fresh! We also had the ahi crudo, which came with an amazing plum & shiso tamari dressing. I could have drank that as a cocktail! I had the dry aged Liberty duck and it was perfect. I love duck, and this presentation was absolutely delicious. My husband couldn't have been happier with his Wagyu NY strip. It was so tender and perfectly cooked to his liking. It was our anniversary eve, and there was a card on the table for us along with some wildflowers that Charles had picked for us. We've been back to the Madrona a few times for dinner outside on their terrace, and we've loved it every time! The interior decor is whimsical and elegant - you need to see it for yourself (think Alice In Wonderland but make it chic) - and the outside setting is serene and green. The food is beautifully presented, and much of the produce comes from their on-site gardens. Highly recommend a walk through the gardens if you have time and daylight on your side. What we ordered: -Kakiage Tempura - a crispy tempura fritter of thinly sliced vegetables (this is salty, as expected, and I loved it) -Little Gem Salad - light and fresh, balancing the fritter! -Wild King Salmon - clean and light, just what I wanted -NY strip - my partner loved this and the duck fat hashbrown accompaniment (wish I got to try a bite!) He tried a cocktail and I enjoyed the local CEP Sauvignon Blanc. Service was friendly and extremely attentive, replacing silverware each course, replenishing water, offering second drinks...while also letting us enjoy a romantic dinner. Cheers to The Madrona! The Madrona is a special place. The stately historic home and grounds are absolutely stunning. A Mother's Day brunch last Sunday was a perfect setting to enjoy the kick off to our day. The remodel on the inside is artistically done whimsical. I love sitting on the outside patio - it reflects an era gone by. Columns, a large stairway to the manicured lawn/ property. The onion dip and chips with roe - let's just say I could eat this without sharing with the table. There's an option to upgrade to a caviar selection, we choose not to do that. Still out of this world. Eggs Benedict (I ordered my eggs scrambled) and hamburger with fries on point. Lots of options for cocktails and wine. I had the first bloom (actually 2 lol) it was that good. It's hibiscus forward with tequila- pink sugar rim and a large ice cube. If you like fruity- I'd suggest this. It appeared there was only one bartender, so the drinks took time, but not so long it spoiled the experience. To wrap up the brunch they gave mom's a single white rose. What a touch of class. After a nice birthday dinner with my husband we presented our gift certificate when the bill came. After 45 minutes of wrangling with the staff and the manager, I had to leave. Exceeded all expectations! Made a 6:30pm reservation on a Friday and were immediately welcomed and seated by Charles. Charles was friendly and very attentive throughout our evening! Our server, Barbie, was also kind and accommodating. We prefaced by saying we wanted to take our time, and Barbie was always available, but let us call her over whenever we were ready to put the next order in. It was lovely not being rushed, and the servers cleared the table and gave us fresh utensils after each course. Talk about fine dining! Their wine selection features local Napa and Sonoma Valley wines, along with a great selection of house specialty cocktails. My partner ordered their mezcal cocktail and I had a glass of their 2021 Sancerre followed by a glass of their Williams Selyem Pinot Noir. The Sancerre paired wonderfully with the Dayboat Scallop Crudo and grilled cod, while the Pinot Noir was a fabulous accompaniment to the burger and beef-fat fries! **While I am mentioning the fries, let me pause and emphasize just how incredible they were... What a place to be! the girls and I took a trip and discovered this quant place in the middle of the vineyards. The food and aesthetic was out of this world. Every room we walked into was a place you could enjoy and take photos. We sat on the patio and had drinks and lunch and everything was superb. It was a rainy September day, our first in many months in this drought and their terrace was inviting, bright and warm. The sounds of the rain were refreshing and exciting also. Started with sparkling wine and cocktails. My friends had the Madrona Benedict with a green onion biscuit which they were quite happy with. A bit surprising there was only the Benedict but no sides to it like potatoes or anything. My guy had the brown rice bowl which was ok. The rice was seasoned nicely with lemon, salt and more but the dish needed more to it to tie it together, like a sauce, dressing and some great legumes to raise the nutrition for plant based folks. Hopefully it will improve as he was still hungry and he's not a big guy. I had the Salmon Gravlax pizza which was totally great with a nice drizzle of a cream cheese sauce. The crust was my kind of thin and lightly crispy. Dessert was the chocolate mousse with meringue. Not our fave but it kept growing on us especially with the well prepared cappuccino! Our server, Madison, was attentive, fun and helpful with the menu. She added good sparkle to our experience. I hope to go back for dinner one day and highly recommend it as a romantic or a classy meal. The hotel has been decorated with contemporary art pieces that are captivating. The fireplace sitting areas and inside dining are cozy, well lit and fun to explore. I love the chairs and sofas too! Wonderful colors with a combo of low and higher comfy beautiful seating which invites conversation. And if you're into gardens, make sure you see their vegetable garden! We started out having a hard time finding the entrance, which does not have its name listed on the arch. But once we got in, we were impressed with the buildings and grounds. Hard to believe, but three stars feels generous for our experience at the Madrona. The Madrona has been painstakingly remodeled by local design legend Jay Jeffords, and is stately and splendid after an exciting transformation. Unfortunately, food and service were disappointing. It's hard to know where to start. Our dinner was a let down, from food to service, made surprising by the fact that front of of house talent was recruited from a nearby Michelin three star restaurant in support of the relaunch, and the kitchen is overseen by a Michelin star chef. Food over seasoning was a memorable issue during a recent visit. We were greeted and ushered into an empty dining room.We were set up in a high traffic area, and sat waiting without a server checking in for twenty minutes. The dining area is large and includes beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, and while there were servers everywhere, running past, no one stopped to ask how we were or to offer to take a cocktail order. We eventually flagged a busboy and asked for our server. Our food arrived tableside without explanation, brought by busboys, often without silverware or plates and sometimes leaving us to flag down others to get a plate or a fork. Information about the food came only when we asked. This was despite $46 entree pricing, that tends to raise expectations for a solid service experience. The parker roll with chicken schmaltz was quite good, but the salmon crudo incorporating cult-classic Cupie Mayo, lacked acid & flavor. Entrees were a weak link with my duck breast being nicely rare, but cold and the skin rendered gummy, not crisp. Parts of the dish were inedibly salty, as was my friend's over seasoned chicken paillard. With only five entree choices on the menu, choices are limited & we noticed most were ordering their burger and fries. While I love a good burger, this is typically not a great sign for the menu (or kitchen.) We tried to focus on the good company and beautiful setting, but it was a disappointment. Especially after a great dinner at the Matheson the night before. I hope things improve. We would return for drinks at their front bar, Patty's Bar, as the cocktail program was strong and we loved the setting. I hope things improve as they get up to speed, but may not come back right away for a meal, except perhaps a burger. read more

We were huge fans of the original Michelin-starred restaurant and ate there on numerous occasions to celebrate. When we heard that it closed, we were pretty bummed. Now that it has reopened (and been reopened for some time), we decided to give it a try. They changed the menu to be more casual so you'll longer find a $150 prix fixe dinner menu, though the a la carte prices might still give you sticker shock. To be clear, contrary to what was said in other reviews, the newly reopened restaurant does NOT have any Michelin stars (you can verify this directly on the Michelin guide site: https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/california/san-francisco/restaurants/1-star-michelin). The manor house is still as charming (and haunted :P) as ever and the service from checking in to being seated, and throughout the entire meal is as good, if not better than what we remember. It's definitely a bit less stuffy, which is great. The menu is of moderate size with several shared starters, several appetizers/salads, and several entrees. The menu has options for almost all dietary restrictions. On the recommendation of our server, we started with the caviar & onion dip ($28) and warm bread ($9) - both were very enjoyable, though unless you load up each chip with dip, you'll almost certainly run out of chips like we did. Same thing for the bread - there was nowhere near enough butter for the volume of bread (4 huge parker house rolls that are like 4" tall) and probably less than 2 tablespoons of butter. While delicious, $28 is a bit pricey for what is essentially chips and dip with a tiny bit of trout roe on top. For mains, we shared a burger ($28) and the jasmine rice porridge ($26). If you're eating duck or steak, you'll shell out ~$45 and ~$60 respectively for your entrees FYI. The burger was perfectly cooked. The patty was seasoned perfectly, juicy, and I believe even had a bit of dry aged meat blended in. The bun was super soft and pillowy, but ultimately served its role of keeping this beast of a burger together. The server raved about the beef fat fries that come with the burger, but I thought they were just okay. Good flavor, good sauces, but lacking the crispy exterior that is such an amazing contrast to the soft, creamy interior. Perhaps they sat under a heat lamp for too long, but these fries were soggy and limp. The rice porridge was interesting. Having grown up eating rice porridge, I just didn't know what to make of it. They took something simple, warm, and comforting and tried to elevate it to a level it doesn't need to be at (IMHO) and ultimately didn't stick the landing. The porridge was bland save for an overwhelmingly strong and unpleasant ginger flavor. I took a look at their BTG list and there's a lot of variety, which I loved to see. The prices are reasonable and pretty standard, despite their insane markup (the BTG price is typically around the wholesale price of the bottle). I wish they would spend a little more time looking for domestic sparkling wine - I'm a bit shocked to see Carboniste featured alongside Laurent-Perrier. You should avoid the Coravin selections - they're way overpriced, especially when there's less concern about oxidation from opening bottles for the regular BTG pours, yet the prices do not reflect this. Even at a generous 5oz pour, which almost certainly they are not doing, you get 5 glasses from a 750ml bottle. At $45/glass, while it's great juice, imagine spending $225 for a bottle of 2021 Kistler 'Les Noisetiers' Chardonnay that you can buy retail for $70. No thanks! The bottle list is also pretty extensive - almost certainly a hold out from their Michelin star days. The prices are reasonable - based on a few bottles I was familiar with, expect to pay between ~1.5-2x over retail on the low end and upwards of 3x over retail on some bottles on the high end. For example, the Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rose Brut is around $75-80 retail and was around $150 on their list (and $44 BTG!). To summarize, we're thrilled that this Sonoma County institution has reopened, but the food was hit or miss and everything was very expensive. We left feeling that it wasn't really worth it, despite spending 3x the amount in the past for what we thought was an exceptional prix fixe menu. For the money, we'll make onion dip at home :P - 1 packet of Lipton onion soup mix ($0.99) - 16oz container of sour cream ($2.50) read more

I absolutely loooove the Madrona. We've stayed a night above the restaurant and it was an amazing experience. Every time I come, I am thrilled and excited to be there. We've done the movie night during summer and that was super fun! I highly recommend it. Out on the lawn after a lovely three-course dinner with complimentary popcorn, candy, and wine. My girlfriends and I also have enjoyed our time here. Everything they serve though is delicious! The dish that called to me as it reminded me of my childhood was this incredible rice porridge with ginger. Did you know you can walk around and check out their garden? Also, the bar is beautiful and you get a wonderful view from any spot in the restaurant. This is one of the most unique experiences, eating the most delectable meal in a historic home atop a green hill. Plus the restaurant is an art gallery. Lots of those pieces are for sale. I can not attest to the food here. Its Michelin-starred run by Jesse Mallgren so it much be good. We wanted to see the grounds of this place mid afternoon, so popped in for a drink. The structure is amazing. Very historic and nicely furnished. We just ordered at the bar area, sat there a while, and explored the rest of the lobby area. Its worth a visit. The structure was built in 1880 and the amazing thing is that all but one of its ground floor windows is original. Its now a bed and breakfast with 23 guest rooms. Definitely worth the price of a drink to check the place out. The drinks/bar area is pretty nice also. read more

Wish the shades were pulled up to see the view. The crudo was delicious as were the deviled eggs. For a main we had the cod and steak with chimichurri sauce. Perched on a vineyard hillside in Healdsburg, the Madrona isn't your typical restaurant and hotel. Upon entering the historic building, we were immediately drawn to the speakeasy-like room to the right, with a bar that made us look twice. Built in 1881, the entire establishment transported us to a different, slower time, and the outdoor veranda where we dined made the wine go down easy. From breakfast items like the eggs benedict to more lunchy items like the burger, every bite was bliss. Did we have the caviar? Yes we did. Excellent service, all around. We cannot wait to go back! It is so hard for me to write this review and give my experience only 3 stars. My family came here for a weekend away. We stayed here for two nights. My husband and I had been here years ago before the remodel. The rooms are nice as is the remodel. I appreciate the car charging capabilities offered to guests as well. I think that is where the highlights end. The pool was decent but also decently dirty. The staff was decent but not really friendly. We had called ahead of time to ask about vegan options for breakfast since my daughter is allergic to eggs and dairy. They offered her bread. I paid close to 1k a night and there is a chef on staff and my daughter got bread for breakfast. Of course we are good parents and tried to have other food for her. Also, with a chef on staff the breakfast was the exact same both days-a quiche, yogurt, some fruit, some pastries. I don't expect a lot but a little variety wouldn't kill anyone-especially for the high prices being charged to stay here. Also, we had requested turn down service earlier since the day before there were staff in our room when we returned and were basically told they cannot guarantee that or request that of their staff...so the next night they came again when we were back in the room and said no thank you. I just think that for the price I paid to stay here, it didn't live up to my expectations. It was decent but I'm not sure I would come back. It would be nice if people were friendlier and there were other options available. The ground are beautiful I do give them that. Not sure if I would be back.... read more

Great addition to the restaurant choices in central Healdsburg. Restaurant is spread out across multiple rooms on the first floor of the beautiful Madrona hotel and grounds, making for both a grand and intimate experience at the same time. They've also managed to strike a balance with the ambience, food, and service, where everything is high quality without feeling too formal or stuffy. Recommend to come early and have a drink, especially if it's nice outside. We were seated promptly. Service was always attentive but we never felt rushed. Menu had a wide range of choices for starters and mains, from things like deviled eggs and a hamburger, to hamachi crudo and goat cheese tortellini. Everything we had was plate-licking delicious. Good choices for vegetarians and vegans. Prices are what you'd expect for this level of dining - pricey, but not outrageous - especially considering the setting, which is a bit magical. Definitely adding the Madrona to rotation of restaurants to recommend to visitors and hit regularly when we're in Healdsburg. read more

We came here for drinks because it was located down the street from our Airbnb. This was a super cute hotel/inn but their bar felt fancy and we expected to be served cocktail perfection! The bar had lots of great art and was beautifully decorated. It was a very instagrammable space if you were into influencing :) the drinks were strong and were diverse but tasty. We should've come here earlier in the day because by the time we got there, I could only stomach 1 more drink but that one drink was delicious and full of cucumber! I'd recommend stopping in for a drink or 2 between a winery and dinner or before you'd tart your wine tours for the day! read more

My $60 "NY Strip Steak" was just a few slices, I'm seeing this con in more and more high end restaurants, basically taking one steak then slicing it up to make two or three entrées at $60 a piece, I understand that food costs and everything else is going up, but at least put the amount of ounces of meat your serving on the menu, that way when you serve the dish your costumer isn't severely disappointed at the sight of tiny little slices of steak for there meal, I guess long gone are the days of the traditional steak houses that served bread, salad and a side as part of your entree. Better just to charge $100 for an uncut steak and include all the fixings, you'll definitely have happier costumers and a lot more of them. read more

What a difference! My husband and I wanted to visit the place we got married to see all the updates. We made dinner reservations for our 5 year anniversary and afterwards got to look around the property. The food, the service, and the new look are all amazing. We ordered a little bit of everything. Our favorites were the salmon crudo, the gnocchi (the sauce was delicious), the steak (perfectly cooked and seasoned), and the chocolate dessert. I honestly can't wait to come back and try the brunch. The grounds are still gorgeous and the updates to the rooms have been very well thought out. I definitely wouldn't mind staying a night out here. read more

What an estate. If you're into art, design and architecture they'll have you at "hello." We started with the deviled eggs with trout roe, also artistically executed. The horseradish in the yolk wasn't subtle, but it was just right for our love of heat. The Madrona salad is the dish of the house for a reason - make sure to add chicken if it's your entree, the paillard style is now the gold standard. Hubby had the brown rice bowl with crispy sesame said it was "fresh, natural, well balanced and satiating." Another example of food as art all around. Our server steered us in the right direction with his knowledge of the menu and passion for the food. What a gem. We'll be back next time for a hotel stay so we can enjoy the lush gardens and pool. read more

Place is lovey, in a beautiful setting. Went for lunch. Had Duck Banh Mi sandwich. Super boring presentation - so white. The bun was white on a white plate served with a very small super white cucumber salad. Cost $25. The pizza was tasty, cost for individual pizza was $25. The burrata cheese with grilled peaches was frankly pretty unappealing looking. I think of grilled peaches as cut in half with nice char lines on them. This was not that. These were wedges of peaches of a kind of weird color. Says it is served with prosciutto, but didn't expect it to be fried like bacon! Crunchy but just not expected. The salad is served with honey on it so it was sweet but not really sweet from the peaches. Cost $19. Oysters were very small, and no mention of what kind. I am guessing Miyagis? One of them was NOT GOOD... Not the restaurant's fault, but we did mention that one seemed to be bad. No comment other than "oh" from the waitress. All of the meal was just ok. Service was just ok. Again nothing exceptional. Had to move inside mid meal due to bees. Took a while to get a second drink, but the place had all of four tables with guests. The part that is really disappointing is that I was using a gift certificate that I received from my brother in 2019 before Covid hit. So then there was Covid starting in 2020 so we couldn't go, then there was the fire that made the place close down for a year, reopening in 2022. We finally found our certificate the other day and I called and made a reservation explaining that I had a gift certificate. No issues there. No comments. Then when I pay the bill with the certificate they say that since the place is under new ownership, they will only honor 50% of the amount on the certificate. The cert says Madrona Manor and they are now the Madrona purchased in 2021 by a group of investors led by St. Helena-based designer Jay Jeffers, his brother, Kyle Jeffers, and general partner Cory Schisler. I would think that the new owners were told how many outstanding certs were out there when they bought the place. Now to only honor one half its value seems pretty low. My brother is out $150 for the certificate that The Madrona would only honor $75 of. Not a great way to do business. Won't be back. read more
