We just left this restaurant, I usually give a place 3 tries, this only got one shot. Our food was cold and greasy. Never came to refill our drinks, when I tried to get the manger she turned and walked away never to return. I had to go get our check from the hostess. read more

This place advertised that they open at 11:30am for lunch. Two days in a row we got there at 11:30 to eat and were turned away despite there being several open tables. The staff used the excuse "we had a big breakfast crowd" to turn us away and state that they would not seat us until 12:30. When there are several empty tables this is crazy to turn away customers. SO GOOD The biscuits before the meal are homemade, fluffy, warm and delicious with the muscadine preserves. I got the grilled tilapia with green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm not much of a mashed potato person but they were delicious here! Service was friendly and pretty quick. This place is like an amped up cracker barrel, and they have a 100 health department rating. I recommend it. read more

In three trips to Calloway Gardens, this is the only restaurant we've visited. I hate it, but that's because I have a milk allergy. Everything here is made with buttermilk and butter, and would you like some butter with that butter? It's really down home southern. My husband loves it, especially for the breakfast. I admit, the biscuits look really good, but I'm stuck with fruit, hardboiled eggs, and juice. Meh. The kids love shopping in the toy and candy sections of the store. read more

The absolute worse breakfast in pine mountain! We went because of the view and figured if the wait was 45 minutes it was because the food was that good. Not the case at all, after we were seated, waited about 10 minutes for our waitress to come take our drink order. We immediately ordered our food and waited..and waited..and waited.. A table of about 6 people ordered after us and received their food first. (We were just a couple) we asked about our food after flagging our waitress down a few times and asking for at least some refills.. Ahh. We were frustrated but sure it was worth it. Absolutely not! We both ordered omelette and this dried up, tiny omelet showed up. We were in shock. We believe our food stayed under the heat lamp for about 20 minutes over, forgotten by our waitress. We just swallowed our food because we were trying to make it to the noon showing of "birds of prey" at the gardens. Such a disappointment. Coming from Florida where it's mainly Latin cuisine and beaches, finding pine trees and good ol ' southern comfort food was our idea of a getaway since we both have lived in the south. It was disheartening and decided to get up earlier and drive farther to find decent food. Ended up finding and loving Crickets restaurant in the area. read more

We come back every year but they have gone down hill in the kitchen. Service was very slow from the kitchen. They had plenty of wait staff. Pancakes were cold and flat. Red rooster sausage is pretty tasteless. Eggs were ok but the chicken fried steak was tough and mostly breading. So come here for the fantastic view, not the food. read more

This is a great restaurant. My wife and I ate lunch and dinner here during our stay at Callaway Gardens. The food was great and the service was very friendly!! The biscuits and muscadine preserves are awesome!! And the view is amazing. The restaurant sits on top of a mountain. I live in Harris county and this restaurant embarrasses me. We went there for breakfast July 5. For starters, there were plenty of tables available yet the line was long and we waited about 10 mins for a table and 30 for food. It seems there was not enough workers. Beside that, I ordered a pancake, med eggs, and bacon. When the order came out it was very cold and the pancake felt like a brick, the bacon was partially raw. My husband didn't even get what he ordered. About 5 mins after our food came out our waitress came back. After about another 20 mins I got another plate of cold food. I swear they made food and just set it off to the side and grabbed it when needed. Anyway, the service is awful and the food follows suite. However the view is gorgeous. read more

We came to Callaway for our Anniversary and my husband's birthday. The lodge was a wonderful place to stay but all food we attempted was horrible. Ordered breakfast here this morning waited for over 30 minutes which would have been fine but our food was stone cold. Congealed really. I didn't think breakfast could be messed up so badly. Waitress could care less. Will never eat at Callaway restaurants. May go back to Lodge for accommodations but never eat there again read more

Server was polite and prompt. I was seated immediately bu it was a strange time of the afternoon--too late for real lunch and too early for dinner. I ordered a grilled cheese which was served on super thick cut white or sourdough bread. I wanted it to be fantastic, but it wasn't. There was no flavor at all. To make the bread work, it would need to filled with way more cheese and the outside could have taken a lot more butter. Prices were reasonable, the food was just blah. read more

The best thing about this restaurant is the beautiful view outside the windows. Our breakfast was nothing to brag about. Everything was just bland except the biscuits that were very good. I had the meat loaf and it was horrible. Didn't taste like fresh meat at all and looked like brown paste. Also had the baked apple and it was covered in butter and didn't taste like apples. We're locals to the area so we try and support all of the local establishments. While the Country Store has a very welcoming atmosphere and a wonderful view if you're lucky enough to get a window seat on a nice day; the quality of the food is lacking IMHO. We have eaten there on many occasions but that came to an end after we had their version of Eggs Benedict, and both got food poisoning from the meal. Maybe stick to the lunch or dinner menu. One last nugget, the last time I ate here the checkout woman asked each person in line if they had left a tip on the table and if not, how much would it be, disturbingly rude, especially since the gal at the register did not add the tip to the check after having to declare to everyone within earshot. Time to shake things up Callaway and give all your customers the respect owed for patronizing any of your establishments. read more

Maybe it was because I was really hungry after a weekend of camping and had just packed up our campsite to go home, but the breakfast was fast, efficient and overall good. Everything was cooked correctly and the staff was nice. Not a knock your socks off breakfast, but good to fill you up when you are tired and hungry breakfast. We ate here as a family of four for breakfast. The waitress was pleasant, but was not very attentive. We ordered coffee, and with three people to one pot, she never checked to see if we needed more cream nor sugar. Two of the plates came from the kitchen ice cold, and the other two were barely warm enough to eat. Once slightly warmed, the food was tasty, but was a bit difficult to fully enjoy due to the varying temperatures. The overall experience was okay, and we would give the place another try maybe in the future. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is really clean and has a homey feel to it. Went there with my in laws 5 of us in total. The food was loaded with salt beyond eating service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I had the pot roast, very small serving for the price, wasn't hot and as I said loaded with salt, it came with two sides I had spiced apples and mashed potatoes, the apples were ok but the potatoes were loaded with salt. My spouse had chicken fried steak which she could not eat, mashed potatoes and Lima beans. And left over most of it. My cousin had southern fried chicken he said was a little salty but was able to eat it. My in laws had a burger and fried catfish and they said there's was ok. I guess you have to stick with the small and plain food there. Oh and the handicap door didn't work from the outside. Come on people were in the 21st century can't get a door to open? read more

Their restaurant's unique ice creams include a delicious muscadine sauce, "available in the giftshop." However, a distinct aroma of "dining hall" was evident, and the dining service was erratic- tho we visited at an off-hour. The giftshop attendant was churlish (almost combative?). When we arrived in SC, we found that one of our giftshop purchases was wrong, despite a specific request. However, we'd go back for an ice cream at sundown, as the restaurant is facing west on top of the ridge. read more

Great service, spectacular views, even some nice shopping while u wait or after lunch. Kids gobbled down all their food. Must have the fried okra and corn muffins, both are excellent. Beef pot roast vanished in seconds, chicken fired chicken was great, chicken pot pie was my sons favorite. All the sides were very good too (but for the Mac n cheese) especially the collard greens. The scenic view and the country store are nice. Our waitress was on the ball, but everyone behind the scenes failed. I got fries instead of side salad and my wife got a fruit cup instead of potato salad. The quality of the food is subpar to say the least. If you are expecting Cracker Barrel quality, you will be disappointed. Don't make a special trip here. read more
