Country cooking family owned. I felt like I was back at home with my grandmother. Definitely not modern which made this place nostalgic for me. Kind people. Thank you for making my family welcome.

Eggs, grits, sausage, biscuit from buffet.

After spending a couple days in the area I was looking forward to a good country breakfast and what a let down. Not sure where to begin so I'll go timewise. We got here about 9:30am. When we walked in a very sweet lady greeted us warmly and told us to sit anywhere; we passed the buffet (I didn't realize they're basically a buffet joint) and I looked over the buffet and it looked pretty bleak. Frankly it reminded me of my boot camp chow from almost 40 years ago, which is not exciting. I had the (of course scrambled) eggs, some patty sausage and some link sausage, grits and a biscuit. Eggs: no taste, like continental style you get at a horrible motel. Sausage patties and links: same, no flavor and hard. Biscuit: hard as a hockey puck and cold as a hockey puck. No flavor. Grits: how in the world can a "country style" joint - especially in the south - mess up Grits? No wonder northern folks don't like grits, because they come to a place like this and get these disgusting runny gray cream of wheat style grits. It's a disgrace for any restaurant in the south to serve biscuits and grits like this. Buffet was $11.95 per person.(Sorry bootcamp meal was better, and I'd rather have to PT and hump 22 miles with a full 72lb pack than pay for that meal again). On top of everything there was an employee restocking the buffet and coughing all over the food...seriously...her mask was under her chin and she was under the plastic deflection shield and coughing in the food! Many customers were just watching her in disbelief. I about hurled right there. Luckily I had already gotten my non-edible foodstuffs onto my plate before this happened but I'm sure it had even happened prior to me getting there. Seating is all booths thank goodness so I could wallow in my misery and depression with only my wife as a witness. What a let down. I would give zero stars if possible but the lady at the register is a sweetheart and deserves a star on her own. Will NEVER return and do NOT recommend. Go to Arby's or something for breakfast.

We woke up late and we're looking for a good breakfast place. I read the reviews on Yelp and a lot were really bad but we decided to try it anyway. It was actually very good. They had the breakfast buffet but my wife wanted pancakes so we ordered off the menu. A lot of others must have had the same idea and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. We grabbed a biscuit while waiting. It was tasty. I got the grand slam and everything was good except my pancakes. A little greasy and looked like buckwheat. The eggs were perfect, the bacon was crispy and the grits were smooth and creamy. My wife got the 3 pancakes but should have gotten 2. Hers were fluffy and light. The coffee was good too and our waitress kept it filled. I would go back. Several locals were waiting for them to switch to the lunch Buffett for take out. The fried chicken looked very

My friend and I had the lunch buffet from here while touring around this area. There was a wide variety of appetizers, and this place even had a salad bar! For my plate, I had a side of salad, fried chicken, chicken gravy, and sweet potatoes. I felt like I was at some southern grandma's Thanksgiving dinner. This meal felt like a bit of a hug before hiking on Pine Mountain. The only reason I am giving it a 4/5 stars is because the chicken had too much salt.

Two egg breakfast

Skip the 15-30 minute wait at the country store and save yourself $10 a plate. Well worth the 5 minute drive into town. Casual southern breakfast buffet and menu offerings.

Hearty portions. Friendly staff. Tasty food. Plentiful buffet. A parking lot full of cars is a good indication of the food and service. Only down sides are no outside dining and bathroom can use a makeover. Black owned business.

Probably the worst breakfast I have ever had! Service was minimal and pancakes took 25 minutes to come out. Do not waste your time or money.

Greasy food and slow service. Don't recommend, though a lot of locals seemed to enjoy it.

The food...down hone cooking, black-owned excellence. Great food and value. I cannot recommend this place enough. Every order is homemade.

I was really looking forward to having the short rib. Unfortunately when we were seated our waitress told us they didn't have it that day. While ordering drinks my husband was ordering beer and he was told they didn't sell what he was asking for. Even though it was listed on the menu. He ended up ordering whatever the waitress suggested and we ordered the shrimp cocktail while we looked over the menu. The shrimp cocktail was very good. For dinner I ordered the filet with lobster and my husband the Pork shank. My filet came out overcooked but was promptly fixed. The lobster was amazing ! My husband wasn't a big fan of the pork. We did order a cheesecake for dessert that was also really good. Overall our experience was pleasant but food wise not what I'd expected from the other reviews. However the service was great. The owner is so nice and spent time socializing at each table. He even came to make sure my second set of fillets were good to go. Our waitress is also very nice. I can see us trying this place out again. Hopefully on a night they have short rib.

Did I forget patient as we stayed around talking until they closed. Thanks for letting life-long friend use our dining experience to catch up with each other. First red flag I saw was when I went to the bathrooms. I noticed the signs stated "ONLY WOMEN ALLOWED" and "ONLY MEN ALLOWED" which gave me an icky feeling but I figured maybe I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. But then when I went back to the table and started eating and my friend joined me, a man came up to our table and got in her face and started yelling at her that she scared his daughter by going to the bathroom. However, there was no daughter in sight, plus there was no one else in the bathroom besides me, her, and there was a waitress who went in after. He got really aggressive and I was surprised that no one on staff did anything to mediate the situation. This was the worst discriminatory moment I've had ever witnessed in a restaurant. Luckily my friend's partner came and eventually I think the man got scared so he left. Transphobia is not okay, and this man & the bystanders who did nothing should all be ashamed of themselves. The bathroom signage also does not help at all-- and my friend has been a loyal customer of this establishment and told me the signage used to just say WOMEN & MEN so the language changed. As for service - it's a buffet so it's self service but complete lack of empathy from staff was extremely disappointing.

Rating it a 3 from a cost/benefit ratio…read more Let me start with...we are big fans of Callaway Gardens. We traveled from Augusta and this was probably our 4th time visiting, albeit the last time was probably 7 years ago. We stayed 2 nights (Tues - Thurs) Our 1st floor room had a moldy, musty smell. Not until my wife took her shoes off did we realize the carpet under the bed and in the middle of the otherwise tiled floor was very wet. It was raining outside so not sure where the water came from. When we went to the front desk, they gave us another room. Spa - we did a couples 80 min massage. Very nice!! Very Pricey though at $600 plus. Dinner at Cason's attached to the hotel. We both had the fish n chips which were worth the price. Brian provided excellent service. 1st Breakfast we went to the off-campus restaurant (Country Kitchen) which was good food, good service and nice views. I'd recommend this place every day of your stay. We drove to & rented bikes at the discovery center and rode throughout the gardens. We knew there was bike rentals at Robin Lake which we could've walked to... but a staff member at the hotel said they were closed. Very nice! Enjoyed a drink at the Robin Lake bar overlooking the beach. Very nice!! Love the grounds although you can tell some of the buildings are in need of TLC. We swam in the pool and used the hot tubs. Kudos b/c the hot tub's actually worked! But the pool had tons of dead bugs floating in the water around the 4 of us using it and probably 8-10 dead roaches around the pool's borders. The resort manager and his assistant came out to correct some blown over umbrellas but no one else came to address the dead insects. Dinner at Piedmont- wife ordered the salmon and I got a bad feeling... like I was in a cafeteria and didn't want to risk the cost of the filet mignon ($50) in that setting so I just got a salad with cut-up chicken breast. Salmon tasted fishy and was nothing to write home about. My chicken had grill marks that looked like they were not made at the Piedmont and appeared to be pressed chicken vs an actual breast. We were offered free dessert b/c it was a special day for us but the dessert was under-whelming and looked like it had just come out of a package too. A very disappointing experience... especially since we remembered the upscale restaurant Callaway used to have over by the golf course (now closed). Piedmont definitely has a cafeteria feel... with booths, young kids and baby noises abound. Definitely not resort level!! We did visit the 24/7 gym and found it to be a very nice gym with both free weights and machines. 2d breakfast - we ate at the Piedmont for convenience since we were checking out that morning. Again, cafeteria feelings!! Booths, kids, lots of noises, service was slow and we waited for the bill way too long. And here's the thing... it wasn't busy at all!! Hardly anyone in the restaurants or in the hotel. And a nice African-American couple we met at the pool said their bed was uncomfortable so they asked for another room but the front desk said they were booked and couldn't move them?!? You gotta be kidding! There was no way the resort was booked. It was a ghost town. They left the same day we did. And we didn't golf but we do golf and we could tell by our bike ride around the course that the greens were not kept up. They were yellowish when the grass around them was green (it was a very rainy week beforehand so it wasn't for lack of water) and a couple greens were littered with what looked like duck poop. Overall, we're concerned for the resort financially. It appears that they're building more homes in Callaway which we hope they get a lot more money from... to make needed facility improvements and to create a fine-dining option with a chef who takes pride in his dishes. We spent $2000+ for 2 nights b/c we were celebrating 34 yrs of marriage and fondly remembered it used to have a resort feel (7 years ago). We left there thinking "what a waste of money" because we certainly didn't feel like we were at a resort while we were there. If it weren't for the beautiful grounds... we'd never go back but...because of that restful feeling you get from the nature there... we may give them another shot.

It is like 25 per person so I definitely recommend getting there early and making a day of it. Bring lunch and have a picnic. Visit gardens butterflies and chapel as well as the raptor center. There were no plans to get additional food whatsoever. I was told that I'd need to pay by weight or $6.99 TO TAKE THE FOOD WE ALREADY HAD ON A PLATE with us. Effectively paying for it twice. But, 'if we do it for one person, we'll have to do it for everyone.' I'm willing to bet they do a lot for those they want to. A lot of food, which is a good price if you just want to eat a lot of bland food, except the rice and noodles. Those weren't bad. Service was okay. They were polite, even as I grumbled about paying twice for the food. (Barely worth paying for once for and I won't be paying again as I won't be visiting again). This is the only buffet I've ever been to where we weren't allowed to take what my grandson had not finished eating. I would understand if I wanted to go refill the plate again and take that but we only wanted to take what was already on the plate and was going to be thrown away later anyway. Or at least I hope they throw the food away. Now I'm wondering. Would not recommend.
