While I'm not sure when the County Cycle Center's last day open will be (as they were closed when I stopped by yesterday) being owned and operated by Danny, his son and grandson since they opened in 1966, it will be greatly sad to see them go. I have been going to this location, at 970 McLean Avenue in Yonkers, since I owned my first Raleigh 10 Speed bike in 1981 when I was sixteen, and have had my 1984, Raleigh 12 Speed Grand Prix racing bike serviced there since I first bought it used in the summer of 2001. Each time I've went there I always received the same excellent, professional service, from curtous professionals at affordable prices; after every tune up or repair I received from their mechanic Steve, and the individual who was there before him, I felt I'd left their store with a brand new bike! If you still ride, or have ever ridden a bicycle, head up there before they close for good, but do call ahead. read more

Came in here to get my little girls first bike and about 3 years later in June 2017 to get her first 2 wheeler. When I say this place is a gem.... they helped her pick out the perfect bike, for her specific size (she is all legs), and even have her a little practice around the store as she was still only learning to ride. This was all with knowing I wasn't purchasing that day. Went back about 3 weeks later to pick up the same bike without my daughter as a surprise to her. The gentleman recognized me immediately and got me the bike. Showed me how to adjust the seat and even packed it into my car behind my seats. 2020 and she is still riding this bike. PSA: County cycle Center has added e-scooters and e-bike sales and repair the long menu of services that they offer, and they are also now an authorized dealer. This saves you the huge headache of having to return a scooter via Amazon/pay for shipping when it breaks down while still under warranty. I have had a total of six scooters (3 are mine and 3 are for my grandkids), but the one that I bought from County cycle Center is now my favorite. I was worried about the pneumatic tires popping, but I actually love them, it's a much smoother ride. I take my scooter everywhere I go, it's so much faster than sitting in traffic, and I love being outdoors. It's a huge relief that now I know I have a reliable, local place if my scooter breaks down, but somehow I don't think this one will! read more

I've been patronizing County Cycle Center since they used to be on the other side of McLean Ave. in fact every bike except one that's I've owned I purchased at CCC. Often times I would head to CCC with the intention of buying a new bike only to be discouraged by Danny with him saying "I could sell you a new bike but you don't need a new bike. The one you have is a good bike." The family style atmosphere and top notch customer service is something the "bigger bike shops" just can't duplicate. I recently brought in my Giant Hybrid and my girlfriends Cannondale road bike for yearly tune ups before the North Fork Century Ride. Both bikes were dropped of Thursday around 10am and I was told "you can pick them up this evening at 5pm." I still go to the shop, although it's a little different after the passing of Danny. I had a slow leak in my front tire. I was tired of pumping it up each day. I also have nearly 4,000 miles on that bicycle. I stopped by County Cycle Center and 3 employees turned to on my bike, not just fixing the flat but they also found the metal holding the rear derailleur was bent they fixed it also. It took them less than 20 minutes and they only charged $30. They were very helpful and just nice people. read more

When we first moved to Westchester and started taking advantage of the summer Bronx River Pkwy closings, we headed to County Cycles to help maintain our bikes The staff has always been knowledgeable and helpful. They give great tips and suggestions that have helped us keep our bikes in great condition. For this reason hubby and I came back again, to purchase a new bicycle for me. Because of the weather, we're not in a rush to take it right away; instead, we put some money down and decided to do layaway. I'm hoping the weather improves by the time we're ready to take it home. Bought my first bike in many, many years yesterday. I'd looked around to find a small business with lots of experience, so I decided to try this place. I was very glad I did! Danny, the owner, helped me pick out a bike. He could have steered me toward a high-end and much more expensive product, but he didn't. In fact, his prices for current stock did not reflect the recent and ridiculous tariffs on foreign goods! In fact, the price I paid for my bike was $60 less than on the manufacturer's website! When I said I wanted a hybrid, he showed me several models and made sure they were the right size for me. He gave me good tips on riding and a price-break on a helmet. Bought a Giant bike from this shop at the beginning of the pandemic. I should have listened to my instincts and turned around and taken my business elsewhere. But I didn't. I was sold a true lemon of a bicycle, while the owner kept insisting it was one of the best bikes he had in store. First red flag, he sold me the wrong size, second red flag none of the bikes have pedals, so I was unable to give it a test ride. Yet, he was giving me the hard sell that it was a great bike. One week later after purchasing the bike, the rear brakes had a problem. Came in to get it fixed, no problem, until the following week the same problem happened again. Third red flag, the rear brake malfunctioned again after a month. It is now five months later and the front brakes are broken. I brought it in to Danny's Cycles in Scarsdale, and off the bat the mechanic said, this bike is too small for you! I've had this NEW bike for less than 6 months and it's a complete piece of crap. Be weary of buying bikes from Cross County Cycles. I will never step foot in that place again. The owner sold me a dangerous bike and completely lied to my face to make a sale. No ethics-just greed. These people are $UC%(IN& crooks! I rode my bike for an annual tune-up, all the way to the shop in 98F weather and they asked me to pick up it 5min before they closed. When I picked it up, all they had done, honestly was blow up the tires. The brakes were squeaking all the way home and I couldn't go back b/c they had already closed. They will provide you with an honest estimate for repairs and will get you your bike back in short order. Awesome place to buy a bike or get your current one serviced. There is no pressure to buy and they don't look to up sell you at all. I just bought a bike and the owner started out showing me the lower priced bikes. I can't remember the last time I went somewhere that didn't start out with the high priced stuff. I have to say the first few times I went to this shop, I had very good service. Vinny had helped me both times. He was very helpful and friendly. I got a tune up for my Specialized and I was also very happy with the work they did. Unfortunately I recently visited again with some questions about how to make my bike more comfortable and also with the intention of buying some bike accessories (lock/chain and air pump). Unfortunately, Vinny doesn't work there anymore. The only people in the shop seemed to be the guys who normally fix the bikes. I told one of the gentlemen I was there for some adjustments to my bike, I was given very short answers to my questions with very little information as to what they could do. I also inquired about a very nice bike they had at the window but the person helping me didn't seem to know much about it or care to give much information about that particular bike or any others I asked him to compare it to. The bike was so awesome I had almost decided to buy it before I had spoken to them. But after I received such poor service I decided to go elsewhere. This is unfortunate because I really like to support local shops and this one is a five minute walk from my house. In the end I didn't buy the bike, get my current bike fixed or buy the other accessories I intended to buy to begin with. I will try to find another bike shop with experts who are willing to educate and happily help their customers. By the way, I don't know if this is normal practice for most bike shops, but they refused to let us test ride the bike we were interested in and also said that they would not allow returns if we bought it and ended up not liking it. read more

The most honest business on earth! I had never been there before and went in this week with three bicycles, not sure of what they might need. Two needed nothing and a third needed a tune-up and tires (which I expected). Danny however said he did not want to do the work on that bicycle, because it was too big for me and he was concerned what would happen if I fell or had to dismount from it quickly. He knows it nuts to bolts and is incredibly kind, knowledgeable and you can see he loves the business and cares for his customers. Steve is an incredible master bike mechanic and Kumar is the second very competent assistant mechanic. They have taught me an incredible amount about bike maintenance and are always willing to help me out when I encounter a road block while building or fixing one of my bikes. When I bought my first bike there in 2003 and didn't even know what I wanted, Danny asked me a few basic questions and suggested to try on a Trek mountain bike which I still love.
