I think this auto shop is for WHITE ONLY because this is the 4th time i called to have my car service and they say yes bring it in or will try to finish up today but as soon as i arrived 10 min later the guy on the front desk is always say NO we will NOT do it today, or mechanic is fully book. Lived here (Hampton Roads) all my life and wish that I would of always been taking my Jeep here. I was visiting my parents in Virginia Beach and needed a state inspection. After a couple of years of naively believing that "free oil and filter changes for life" was a good way to save some money, I figured out that what they really meant was "Here is some cheap bait to lure you in so we can nail you with unrelated expensive repairs," I finally wised up and swore off dealership service departments for good. I then sought out a locally owned business close to my neighborhood. I have been bringing both my vehicles to Courthouse Automotive for several years and am on a first name basis with Shawn and Ryan. Never have I felt that I got a raw deal on a repair and that brings real peace of mind when I know I have to bring a car into the shop. Recently, my brakes were squeaking and I thought I was going to have to go in for a full brake job. But I got a call later in the day saying all they had to do was make a minor adjustment for the squeaking and that the brakes had plenty of life left in them. I mean, what mechanic does that kind of thing when they basically have a green light for an expensive repair? The answer: These guys! They even offer 10% discount on labor for service members. read more

I drive a 2003 BMW 325i. I have not had any significant problems with the car and have owned it for 4 years. I brought it into Courthouse to get the A/C charged, inspection added, and oil changed. They fixed these items and then went to pick me up to bring me the car. The car wouldn't start. They sent Vinny over to pick me up in a different car. Vinny indicated that they were hoping that it was just low on fuel, but that this likely wasn't the case as there was still 1/8 of the tank full. I spoke with Vinny of the seemingly obvious relationship between the work they did on my car and the fact that it is now broken. He indicated that of course they would fix it at no extra charge because it is obvious that the work they did impacted the car. Again, here is the sequence of events: 1. Car runs fine for years. 2. Bring car into get serviced at Courthouse Automotive. 3. Car doesn't work when they are done servicing the car. 4. Courthouse staff maintains that the work they did to the car had nothing to do with the car now not working. Courthouse Automotive's inability to see how they negatively impacted my car is baffling to me. I was trying to explain this to them, but they just refused to see it. It is like having your washer and dryer working fine. You call an appliance repairman to have them serviced. He comes in and services the washer and dryer. You then try to use them and they don't work. You call the guy and say 'hey, it looks like you broke my washer and dryer' and he says 'nope, the work I did didn't have anything to do with them now being broken.' My car has been running well for years, I bring it into get routine maintenance done, and now it isn't working. Be careful. They may do "maintenance" on your car and you'll end up spending an additional $650.00 just to get your car back. read more

I rarely give 5 star reviews and the guys at Courthouse have earned it. I keep a car in Va Beach for local business and have had it inspected and repaired numerous times at Courthouse Automotive. They are fair about their estimates and labor costs and always call with a detailed explanation before doing work. In one case they gave me one quote for new parts and a cheaper quote with remanufactured parts. They didn't have to go the extra step to save me money, but they did. Found this place looking for someplace close to where I was to get an inspection done. Asked for a quote to get some fluids replace and was kindly given one along with advice not to exchange the transmission fluid because there wasn't much need to do it and it could ruin my transmission resulting a roughly $3,000 repair. What automotive shop does that? Brought my car back in for the fluid replacement and they found a problem with, oddly, a transmission line. Instead of telling me it need to be replaced ($$$) they fixed it for me at a very reasonable price. They're honest and they care. This place is across town from where I live, but I will be making the drive for any of my cars' needs from now on. read more

Yes, they were accommodating and friendly. But they messed my car up and put us in danger. I only went in for a safety cert and was told I needed my brakes done, strange as I have a BMW and it alerts me when the pads are low. Ok I figure, whatever I needed the cert. Right after I notice the brakes squealing and it takes a long time to brake. It NEVER did that before so I take it back, an hour and 1/2 later, nope theres nothing wrong with it? Seriously? Ive been trying to get an appt at the dealership but its booked so I drive SLOW or not at all. Normally always go here for oil changes and anything else for both my cars. Decided to go somewhere else because I realized I was over my miles on an oil change and saw a place while I was having lunch. They changed my oil and told me about numerous things that needed to be done and told me it would be about $450. Instead of doing it there I went back to Courthouse Automotive and explained everything the other shop told me. They came right out, popped the hood and told me everything looked fine and it was basic wear and tear and there was no need to do all that work. NEVER will I go anywhere else again!! After receiving a quote of $1300+ from Pep Boys to fix my brake lines I took my truck to Courthouse Automotive where they quoted me $571 to do the same work. The work was completed quickly and the quality was top notch. In the future I will be bringing my truck back to Courthouse Automotive if any repairs are needed. I voted for Courthouse Automotive for years because they do provide a service that is top notch. My car started smoking and I stopped the car to see what was going on. I opened the hood and quickly noticed that my drive belt and idler pulley was in bad shape. I was in the middle of the street and I notice it was after 5 pm and I couldn't contact Courthouse. The first shop I thought about. One; because, I've been going there since the doors opened and they do good work, and two, I live just up the street. However; I had, what I thought, a simple repair to remove and replace my drive belt and tensioner pulley. Because the one on the car had come off and the pulley in front of the engine was destroyed. When I received the invoice I started asking questions concerning the diagnostic charge $49.49, because it was obvious what was needed. I also mentioned a couple other charges, i.e. Supply charges $17.63, and parts $131.98. I called Mercedes and the parts I needed, Drive Belt and New Idler pulley cost were $105.05 for both. I never got a call concerning what it would cost me, I didn't know what the cost was until they called me and told me my car was ready. I'm sure they assumed the cost were too small why bother. I guess you have to spend $500 or more to get a call. Who knows!!!! I spoke to the owner concerning these charges and he started explaining them, as I appreciated that but he became agitated after I addressed his cost for the parts. Why are the parts from Mercedes cheaper? I also mentioned that my A/C wasn't blowing out cool air after the repair. I didn't have any problems before the repair with my A/C. Instead of him providing some advice what could have happened. He said "I could go elsewhere if I wasn't happy with his service/prices". I'll start with the fuse and go from there, I suppose. Shawn told me that I could avoid these charges the next time if I tell them not to diagnose the repair. In other words they will repair what I only ask them. I asked my self, did his business get so big that he's okay with telling a loyal customer he can go elsewhere for repairs. I wasn't angry, only wanted to know about the charges. Cars today have the technology in them to tell you what's going on and no one has to diagnose many of the problems, especially if you can see what's going on. It's one thing if you don't know what the problem is and they have to do some research but that wasn't the case here. Yes, although these costs are small I was taken-back by he's response because I've been a loyal customer since he opened his doors. Back then it was about providing the best service at a reasonable/fair price to his customer and over the years it has changed and became more about the money. Yes, this wasn't my first time questioning his prices, especially his supply charges. It looks like they charge this as a percentage of the bill. I notice this even with oil changes. (Really) I'm sure we all have paid the cost for all his supplies, pens, paper, rags, towels, etc. On one hand he gives me a military discount and the other hand he takes it back with these supply charges. I write this only to make everyone aware of what you are being charged for no matter how pleasant and accommodating they are. We all work hard for our money and have the right to question charges on our invoices. No matter how small or big. We all want good service at a fair price, no matter how small or large. This could have been a much larger repair. I will continue to use Courthouse Automotive but I will understand what I'm paying for before I authorize any future work. By the way, Shawn called me back later on in the day to confirm the mis-quote on the pulley. I really appreciated that; therefore, I give three stars. Semper Fi to all who read this post. read more
