Originally took my car to a different shop on someone's recommendation. That shop told me they couldn't see me today, so after a little research I found Precise Auto Care. Upon pulling into the lot (around 830am), I was immediately greeted by a technician walking out to diagnose another car. John, behind the desk, told me that my brake job would be one of the first cars in and my car was on the lift lift within 10 minutes. They still offered me a ride home if I didn't want to wait in the lobby though. I waited in the lobby, which was clean, had water, and coffee available as well. While I was waiting, I had multiple interactions with the front employees, the technicians, and John, who is in the process of becoming the owner. They all made me feel welcome and I enjoyed the time sitting in the waiting room. John was a very genuine man as well, and I felt that I was treated fairly, and also saw that he seemed to care about and treat his employees fair as well. The pricing was exactly what I was expecting for quality work, and he didn't hesitate to offer military, and loyalty discounts to customers that came in. Absolutely recommend coming here and this will be my first (and only) stop for any maintenance that I don't do on any of my automobiles. read more

So, when I went here, in January of 2020, it was under different management. They did a job on my transmission. Replaced the flywheel & clutch but did not replace a bearing that was a part of the repair. 3k miles later, the truck began giving trouble again. Difficulty shifting. I took it to a mechanic where I live (FL), and got the shifter fixed. $800 job. that was fixed but the shifting issues came back almost immediately, and this time accompanied by a chirping sound. I took the truck back & my mechanic asked more questions about the work I'd gotten done. I hadn't owned a car in the last 10 years so I didn't know anything. He encouraged me to call them and find out what kind of work was done so they could see if it was related to that and if there was a warranty on it. I called and got a rude person who made sure to tell me that they aren't the same ownership "so WEEE didn't do any work on the truck," she said. I asked if she could get me the information, she put me on hold for 10 minutes, then we got... disconnected. I called right back and got somebody much nicer, who told me what work they did, but was unable to email me any of the information and I guess also unable to find somebody who could do so for her. My mechanic had to call them to get them to send along the information we needed. Turns out all the issues were from the shoddy first job. Great. Better still, it would be covered by the warranty. Turns out labor there was like $300 cheaper than the place I go to now, so I'm not saying you get what you pay for. More that Precise offers a good value when they do the job well (new management, so maybe they do) I understand new ownership means that's not their fault. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because they didn't do the shoddy work. They just wouldn't help me at all when I needed them to. My truck is running great now, so I hope you find a mechanic as good as the one I have now. Maybe it's Precise. I don't know. read more

They tried misdiagnosising my car and tried charging me $1,000 before even looking at the car because they don't listen to what you actually tell the lady inside. She just writes down whatever she wants not even remotely close to what you say. They also don't know when you pay a deposit because I had to show them a screenshot that I paid that. The first time I brought them the car I paid a lot of money to fix a coolant leak and then had to take the car back a week later because it was still leaking. Don't waste your time or money. Awful place!!! They had my husband car all day!! That costed him $100.00 dollars to find out they can NOT do Anything. If I can give this place NO stars I would... the icing on the CAKE is they call 45mins until closing to PICKUP His CAR! He live 30mins away with no other vehicle, he had to Uber to their shop. If you had good/ great customer service to this place then good for you.. just to clear it up this place SUCKS! Along with their customer service. Rating 0-10.. (0) how do you keep a car there all day from 9am and not even look at it!? then call 45 mins before closing? When my husband has to Uber back to their shop 30mins from his place? Made a appointment for first thing in the morning and showed up about 10min early. They were already open and took a look at the bumper which had some broken clips and was hitting the front wheel. Being my friends BMW I figured I was in for a good bill. Went to breakfast came back about 90 min later and it was all done for just over $100. I thought it was more than fair and the work was good. Newly stationed here I trusted them and really wanted to stick with this shop after thinking this shop was a hidden gem but after getting strung on for 3 months, 10 visits and over 4k spent I have lost all confidence in their mechanical abilities and still had to take my car to the dealership to finish the job. Since John has been absent, the operations have been left to misdiagnosis, re-doing repairs and inexperienced staff. I was refunded a little portion of the cost which doesn't compensate for this horrible experience. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this shop. read more

Had my car towed there and they told me that I needed an alternator and a battery cable. I told them to fix it. When I went to pick up my car they tried to charge me for and alternator that I supplied. After clearing that up they still charged me almost 600 dollars for the labor to put the alternator in and a battery cable. I paid and went out to my car and it would not start.... they didnt even have the courtesy to charge up my battery. read more

Stay away!! They kept my truck for a full week after saying it would be done the day after I dropped it off. Something about miscommunication between the office and mechanics and someone going on vacation. Basically a bunch of bs. They were supposed to fix an oil leak and repair my ac. Charged me $700 to fix NOTHING!! Literally. When I picked it up they gave me some excuse how they didn't realize a belt was missing so they couldn't fix my ac unless I wanted to pay more for parts and labor!! They didn't notice the belt was missing for 7 days??? Yet they still charged $100 for "servicing" the ac. Oh and the oil leak they supposedly fixed...is so bad now that another mechanic told me it's a fire hazard!!!! This place is nothing but a scam. My car was overdue for an oil change and I had a feeling something was wrong with my brakes, so I knew I needed to have it looked at. I just graduated from college in Norfolk and am unfamiliar with any trustworthy mechanics in the area. I also really have no knowledge at all when it comes to cars and have unknowingly till afterwards, been ripped off for car maintenance in the past. When doing research on mechanics in the area, Precise has the best reviews out of any so I knew this had to be a great place to take my car. I'm SO glad I brought my car here. From the second I walked in, I was welcomed and just had an overall great experience. I needed all 4 brake pads and rotors to be replaced, but opted to just do the front two as funds are a little low. I was given an affordable rate for that and was also given a ride home once told that it was going to be a little while for my car to be looked at. Customer service clearly is a top priority here and I will continue to bring my car here for any service that it may need in the future. I've been to a few other auto repair shops in the Norfolk area and this is my new go-to place. I read reviews on Yelp and Google about Precision Auto Care and decided to give them a call. Dave the owner is awesome. Such a nice and comedic guy and really works with his customers to give them the best value for their money. No gimmicks, no BS trying to ring you into big expensive jobs that don't need to be done. He's a personable and genuine individual who clearly has built up his business based on experience and customer service. His mechanics know what they are doing and are all very courteous and professional. They took my car in to have the AC compressor replaced and the tranny mount replaced. Dave had an unbeatable price compared to other shops that I had called around to and went to in the area. And a job that I was told would probably need to be done in addition to this work- turned out I didn't need at all. I will definitely be returning in the future for any repair work I need some to my vehicle and I would HIGHLY recommend this shop to anyone else needing repairs. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PATTERN AT THIS PLACE. READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS, THEY ALL SAY THE SAME THING!!! I took my car in June 25th because the AC was not working. They did a diagnostic test and stated the car needed a AC control panel $435.95 with parts and labor the total bill was $732.28. Paid and took my car. Less then the two months later the AC stop working. Took my car back to the shop. Paulette who was friendly the first visit had a immediate change in tone and attitude this time. The next day they called and informed me there was something "new" wrong. There was a hose that needed to be replaced costing $250 with parts and labor. I questioned the idea that after spending $732 to fix my AC why I would have to pay an additional $250 dollars. Paulette gave the phone to owner. He did nothing constructive to solve the issue. He was confrontational, defensive and told me I did not know how to have a conversation because I kept interrupting him. I tried to make the point that if you diagnosed a $732 dollar problem and that it didn't fix the issue why should I pay more for a "new" problem that you now think "is" the issue. He talked to me as if I was a child, stating other parts on cars break also. So what makes him think I can trust him to get it right this time. He informed me if I didn't get the work done that there would be a $50 diagnostic charge. Unbelievable! I had to pay the fee to get back my car. If you read the other negative reviews they state almost the same things. Some of the other reviews say the owner was disrespectful to them as well. NOT A SURPRISE!! I like using small business owned places, but this time it back fired. DON'T USE THIS PLACE!!! ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IT WILL COST YOU MONEY. My daughter had left her car at home in NC while she was on deployment. Her grandparents had taken the car to some shop in NC to get a simple oil change. My daughter drove back to Norfolk for duty only to find out she got a botched oil change. Her car is German, not many know what they are doing. These folks had already closed for the day, and an amazing gentleman stayed trying to help her so she could get home. The man went above and beyond to help her, which I am eternally grateful for. I took my car here for a tune up around a year ago. They failed to tell us about some of the work they were doing and quoted us a lower price than we were told when we went to pick the car up. When we informed the woman at the counter that the price was a couple hundred over the quote, she told us that we couldn't take the car until the bill was paid. If you're going to do additional work on someone's car, maybe give them a call and see if they can afford it first. The work they did was great, but we won't be coming back. read more

whenever going to the auto repair shop, one always wonders what are the mechanic is going to say "needs" replacing. after find several 5-star reviews on repairpal.com, i decided to goto here (now called Precise Auto Care). i went in expecting to replace the front end suspension of my GMC Yukon but just based on my description of the problem, they guessed it was actually the intermediate steering column (a well know problem with GMCs and Chevy trucks/suvs). but they checked the front suspension and did a little test drive to appease me and confirmed their original assumption. they ordered the parts and 3 days later, i took my GMC back for steering column replacement and its 100K mile maintenance. the owner gave me ride home while they worked on my GMC and then picked up me once the work was complete. apparently the mechanic worked for GMC for many years as a master mechanic. if i had any compliants, it would be that they got a couple of drops of lubricant on the steering wheel and didn't wipe it off, but i came off with the swipe of a paper towel. otherwise, great guys, great service, and great price. if i need future auto work (crossing my fingers i don't), i'll definitely go back. read more

Went there after running over a traffic cone. Ended up really messing up my car. Precise auto took in my car, looked it over and was able to make a decision on everything wrong with it. Precise told me that as a shop, they may not be able to fix the damage to the frame and that my car should be taken to a body shop instead. They priced everything else out for me and even gave me recommendations for body shops in the area. I appreciate their honesty and their help. It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust, especially if you are a woman who knows nothing about cars. This has been an issue for me for as long as I've had my driver's license--who is trying to rip me off? Who is actually trying to help me? And does it cost a fortune? Thankfully, Precise Auto falls in the last two categories. I did a lot of research a year ago when I moved here from Alexandria, and realized I couldn't take my old mechanic with me (Mike from Turnpike Auto). I read the reviews and gave Precise Auto a try, and I'm glad I did! David and his crew are friendly and professional. They don't try to talk down to me or mansplain the issues my car is having. Instead, they actively listen to my concerns and explain the process every step of the way. Usually the idea of taking my car anywhere fills me with anxiety, but I actually look forward to taking it to Precise Auto, not only because of the great work they do, but because the mechanics are great to talk to while I wait (some of them are hilarious). And even though there are mechanics who are much closer to where I live, I will continue to take my car the extra mile to Precise Auto, since I know they will go the extra mile for me. Basically, if you are looking for a mechanic that will to great work honestly and for a great price, I can't recommend Precise Auto enough. Try them out--you'll be glad you did, and you can rest easy knowing that your car is in the hands of professionals who treat you as a person rather than a walking dollar sign. read more

We are on vacation from out of town. A problem I thought had been fixed at another shop reappeared. I stopped by this shop and was able to make an appointment for the following day. That morning the problem was quickly diagnosed and an estimate provided. Even though the repair parts were delivered to them late, the mechanic worked past closing time on a Friday night to get us our car. This in itself earns them a 5-star rating...but there is more. Both times I visited the shop, I observed the interactions of the staff with other customers. I was impressed with the level of care and concern each customer received. As you might imagine, some customers were upset at the cost of repairs or repairs taking longer than they wanted, but all of them were given professional service. If I lived here in Norfolk, this is where I would bring my car for service. The facility has seen better years, but the service and quality of repairs is top notch! read more

This was the best experience on one of my worst days. I work at the Library across from this place and its always packed and I needed to get my car checked. I was more than pleased with the customer service right away. I then had my car fixed and I was very pleased that I was able to return home safely. Precise Auto Care is amazing! I am a Navy mom who's sailor is stationed here in Norfolk. I did my research several months back and based on reviews, I came in and met Vanessa who works up front in the office. She totally made me feel comfortable and ensured me that she would take care of my daughter. I could tell right away that she was extremely knowledgeable and trustworthy. Thank goodness I established contact with Precise when I did because my daughter's vehicle ended up breaking down. I must say that against my advise, my SIL chose to take the vehicle elsewhere initially. This other local business totally took advantage of them and they ended up having the vehicle breakdown again. Finally, I got them to take it to Precise. Vanessa and her team took so much care in understanding my daughter's situation and finding the right solutions for the repairs needed. They even took pictures to show us what was wrong with the initial repairs. After we picked up the vehicle we could immediately tell a difference in how the vehicle ran. They had no problem in a follow up check the day after we picked it up for an engine light. Turned out to be a loose hose which they secured and sent us on our way. I have drove past this little shop for well over a year. Choosing an auto shop is not an easy task when you weigh service vs cost. I made the decision to go there after contacting them and getting an estimate, they quoted exactly what I would need and did not try to "sell" me on extra items that I did not need. The price was literally 1/3 the price the dealer quoted me for the same work, and David's (Shop VP) knowledge, expertise, and personality has created a customer for as long as I am stationed here. Being new to the area, I was nervous about finding a reputable car shop that I could trust. I went to Precise because they got good Yelp and Google reviews. I was having concern about my brakes after the last storm. They ended up doing all brakes and wheel bearings for $1200. Pricey - but maybe within average realm? Not sure. I went back to them to have them check something out (because I wasn't sure what to expect with the new/ceramic brakes) and they were more than receptive and helpful. David wanted me to be 100% happy with the work they'd done. The mechanic and I rode around and David even tried them. They both reassured me everything was working as it should. After driving the car for a few days since the work was done - I'm happy with my new brakes and the performance of the car. David was really helpful and said many times, "If you have ANY questions or concerns - come back. You've got a lifetime warranty on these parts. We want you to be completely satisfied and to put your mind at ease." I appreciated his commitment to customer satisfaction. I will continue to do business with David and Precise Auto. read more

I was really optimistic about this place based on the reviews. The owner is very manner-able, but the service I received was not so great. I initially got in touch with him in regards to replacing a timing belt, the tensions, and water pump. I had my car towed there around 11am on 5-13-16. I called the next morning to find out what his diagnosis was, and he stated that he hadn't looked at the car yet. That should have been a red flag for me. He then said he would have an answer for me by Saturday at 9am and promised to call me by 9 to let me know the results. By 5 pm, when I still hadn't heard from him, I decided to make a trip to the shop to find out what was going on. He said that he needed to put it on a machine that's located at some other place to find out if it was an interference engine, which wouldn't be available until Monday. Tuesday morning he said that the engine is not an interference issue so we should be fine, but that he had to order a part, and it would be in Wednesday and I should have my car by Thursday. He did make me aware that if damage was done to the engine valves, that the repairs could span into the $1500-$1700 range. I let him know that if that was the case, I would not be interested in fixing the car, because I didn't even pay that much for the car when I first bought it about a year ago from the auction. He called me back to let me know that some valve damage was done, but when I asked if it would still be drivable with just the fix of the timing belt and water pump, it said that it would be, it would just drive rough. Long story short I went to pick up my car. He required that I pay the money first and then he gave me the key. Went outside to a car that wouldn't even start. Went back in to let him know the car wouldn't start and his response was, "oh, were you expecting to just drive off with it?" At that point I was livid, because if he would have informed me that even with the fix of the timing belt, tensions, and water pump, that my car would still not be drivable or even able to start for that matter, I would've never paid all the money to fix the car. I really feel taken advantage of, and I would advice anyone who is looking to get your car repaired there or anywhere for that matter, that you have somebody with you that knows a little something about cars. Otherwise you will get ripped off like I did. Now I'm in the hole a few hundred dollars with a car that I had to get towed back home. Then when I went back today to see if I could have the parts they took off of my car yesterday, I was told by the owner, "They're in the dumpster. So you can go dumpster diving."
