This hotel is currently being renovated, but it is business as usual. Breakfast has been moved to a meeting room and a couple of areas are walked off with plastic. Minimal disruption to guests. Front desk employees are friendly, and fresh baked cookies are available! It has been a long time since I have seen fresh cookies at an HIE. My King room is large and comfortable. Bathroom is a little dated but clean and serviceable. This is a very convenient locations. There are many restaurants within walking distance, mostly chain restaurants but there are some local places a short drive away. read more

This hotel is under construction and guests should have been warned. I travel for work and I've stayed in hotels under construction before, but this location could do better to contain the dust. On the room I was initially given, the thermostat was not working so the room was around 90 degrees. I tried turning the HVAC unit off but the controls were not working so I had to ask for another room. Maybe I missed the wall control but I looked and looked and could not find one. The rooms are dated with 80s decor that is well past the point of change. Pictures don't look like the pictures at all. Not a 3 star hotel. If I would have known, I would have not stayed there. The lady in the front desk, Felicia, tried her best and gave me another upgraded room. So far she is the best part of the experience. The new room at least was not as bad as the 1st with a working HVAC. For the price not a good experience This hotel is not cheap. Can't recommend. read more

We had a nice little overnight stay here. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. I don't know if we got lucky or it's always like this, but we didn't hear any guest noises from other rooms or the hallway. Staff was so friendly and helpful. We also loved the little robot butler that visited our room to deliver a blanket. Breakfast was tasty with lots of options including a fresh pancake maker. The breakfast nook is supposed to look like an old university den, with a two story ceiling and lots of dark wood. It looks really cool. Our one complaint was the pool. It was gross. There was tons of hair in the pool and on the patio surrounding the pool. We mentioned it to staff and they apologized, explaining there had been lots of kids there the day before. read more

Man, this hotel is really showing its age. It's 2024 guys, come on! It is in need of renovation big time, especially when you look at how other Holiday Inn Express rooms around the world usually are now. The overall hotel gives off vibes as if you are still living in the year 2008 with its overall dated vibe, old style furniture and keycard readers. You actually have to insert them into the reader rather than tap them wirelessly to enter your room. The TV is also a bit on the old side, and don't even get me started on the cleanliness. I found the hotel to be surprisingly dirty too. Some anti-bacterial wipes I brought with me from Canada (home) picked up a lot of disgusting stuff. Ugh. I will say though that the shower power is quite good and that the washroom is very big. That's something you don't come across often these days, especially in the more modern hotels. The staff were also very friendly. Despite all those things, I probably will stay somewhere else next time I am in the Bloomington area. So I check in at 11:00pm and even though I am a platinum member they did not have the room I reserved. Once they gave me a room the keys did not work and even the new keys did not work. I was told the maintenance man would have to come up to fix our lock or front desk manager let us in if we needed to leave our room. This is the four holiday inn express I have stayed at in the last week and by far the worst maintained gym. The equipment is old and out of date. read more

Did a spa-tub suite. Fine. Clean, not beat-up. Tub was great, and needed for a respite during the pandemic. Breakfast has hot foot, served weirdly. Not a huge variety but many will be pleased. Amazingly, on a Saturday night, it was comparatively quiet. There are some weird noises, mostly plumbing, but after staying at far too many hotels across the planet over the years, this was surprisingly decent. One gets the feeling it's actually maintained, and we found no evidence to the contrary. We paid a very good price for it; shop around to get your best deal and choose this one. read more

If possible pick someplace else. I applaud hotels for moving to bulk bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the showers. However, when the pump is out of conditioner and you've already washed your hair .... what a mess. Try getting a comb through that! I mentioned it nicely to the desk staff so the next person isn't stuck. Then went to breakfast! Nope!! No pancakes or waffles. Not because they don't serve them, they are out of mix. The truck comes in tomorrow. I mention it to desk staff, who said, "yes we have pancakes!" I replied, "no you don't there's no mix". She said, "we're human, stuff happens." When you add to that the wait for the elevator since there's only one with the other one out of order.....better pick someplace else until they get up to speed with the hotel business. read more

Sandi and I stayed here while working on our plans for our future home. The hotel is a lovely hotel with a great dining room / meeting room. As a rbka I measure a hotel by its handicapped accessibility. I can tell you that they are trying to be at tentative to the needs of an amputee. They realized that they needed an open shower with a bench. They need to make the hand held shower more accessible to the bench and the soap in a better place. The compensated by placing a shower chair in the shower. The bars are great. The staff was helpful. The breakfast and dinner was excellent. I found the robot server humorous. The pool has a lift for handicapped people and the exercise room was well equipped. I will adopt this chain as one to use through out the US. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Franklin in Bloomington, IN last night. Upon arrival we were greeted by a wonderful woman named Tina who offered us fresh baked cookies to enjoy by the fireplace in the beautifully holiday decorated lobby. The lobby also had this pretty futuristic canteen with everything you could want and Archie, the hotel robot who delivers whatever you desire directly to your room. The location was a short 8 minute drive to downtown Bloomington, and surrounded by multiple restaurants within walking distance (they even provided a coupon for Texas Roadhouse!). Parking was ample and the street was quiet. The hotel smelled fresh; every elevator - stairway - and hallway was clean. There was a pool, fitness room, business center and tons of other amenities we did not have time to explore. Our room was perfectly warm and such a cozy thing to walk into from the cold. There were two plush, clean and comfortable double beds. A desk, microwave, fridge, television with cable, Keurig machine, USB charging ports, ample light and clean floors. The bathroom was very clean and spacious complete with soft, plush towels, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soaps, make up remover, and vanity kit. And the shower pressure was incredible! All in all this was a very lovely stay for business or for family trips. Tristar Hotel Group out of Scottsdale, Arizona refuses to give refunds to families for Indiana University Bicentennial 2020 Graduation cancelled reservations due to COVID-19. Tristar Hotel Group owns The Holiday Inn Express, the Holiday Inn, and the Comfort Inn in Bloomington, Indiana. Families were originally promised refunds and then Tristar Hotel Group decided check refunds would not be issued. Credit of the full deposits are being issued to be used ONLY in Bloomington, Indiana. I personally have a $3017 credit for the Holiday Inn Express. Deposits were paid a year in advance by personal checks or money orders. Credit cards payments were not accepted. All future reservations need to be made directly with the GM at the Holiday Inn Express - Bloomington. The Marriott brand, the Hilton brand, and the Hyatt brand, the Graduate, and The Biddle all gave full refunds. Holiday Inn Express hotels in surrounding towns gave full refunds as well! Families are upset and feel that this is unethical way to treat loyal customers and IU families during the COVID pandemic. IHG Corporate is unable to assist because I have been told by an IHG executive liaison that IHG Corporate is not involved in locally negotiated group reservations or the operations of the independently hotels. I wasn't able to negotiate my rate, I was told the rate was $442 per night plus tax. Due to what has happened, IHG has lost my trust. Is Tristar Hotel Group making the right decision by refusing to give refunds? Is it common practice to only accept personal checks or money orders for graduation reservations? Is it ethical to give a refund to one guest and not all???? The owners of this hotel refuse to give Hoosier Parents who booked rooms for graduation a refund. The owners also own the Holiday Inn and the Comfort Inn in Bloomington. They are the only hotel owners who did not give full, timely refunds to their customers who booked rooms at highly inflated prices for IU graduation which was cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 Pandemic. Maybe they'll hate me or love me for telling the world straight away that... we checked in, and immediately were handed two free drink tickets for their bar (turn head to find amazingly nice hotel bar with local beer on tap). Like other reviews... sleep number king size beds, new TVs, new bathrooms, a new bar & lobby. If you have memories of staying at Holiday Inns through the 80s or 90s... this is entirely different. The price though... pretty much the same (that's a good thing). Via Hotwire... it was $90. When it comes to finding four star hotels in Bloomington... I don't think one exists (on Hotwire or on Yelp). This is pretty much it -- other than the new Hilton Garden Inn. Pricewise... this one is the victor. The bed was clean, comfortable, high thread count & huge. And those two free drinks were clean, comfortable, huge & perfectly remarkable. read more

Holiday Inn Express Bloomington is a nice, quiet and clean hotel. This is only the second Holiday Inn I have stayed at in recent memory. Honestly, it is just as nice as a Marriott Courtyard with complementary breakfast, mini dinner and nicer workout room. If I am traveling for work I would choose a Marriott. If my trip was strictly pleasure I may consider a Holiday Inn Express after this experience. This is a nice hotel definitely worth consideration if you are staying in the Bloomington area. read more

This is a pretty nice Holiday Inn Express. I have stayed in several, and this one makes some of the others seem more like a Days Inn. Our room had individualized controlled heating or air conditioning that was controlled by a wall mounted digital thermostat. It was one of those movement sensing types, though. That means when you come back in, your room is not going to be at the temperature you left it at.and you will have to turn it back on and reset it. The pool was small, but I did not use it anyway. The hot tub was larger than most and worked great. Free in room Wifi. The breakfast area was crowded, made worse when a family member would "hold" a table for over thirty minutes waiting for the rest of the family to appear. The hot breakfast was pretty standard Holiday Inn Express fare, but just fine. The crowd kept the hostesses hopping to keep everything stocked. read more

I'm sensing a theme with these HI-Ex chain places. The breakfast area never seems to have enough seating. This one did do a good job of keeping the food stocked however. Kind of interesting, this place had a little shop you could go in, with a window into the reception desk, and you could buy all sorts of candy, drinks, snacks, other sundries. Loved the pool (shaped kind of like Indiana?) and the whirlpool. Nice that it is walking distance to several restaurants. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this Holiday Inn. The front desk was incredibly nice and helpful. We asked about where to rent mountain bikes near Brown County State Park and the guy at the front desk looked up a few different places, printed out the websites, highlighted all the pertinent information, and slipped it under our door in the middle of the night while we slept. Very unexpected service for a Holiday Inn. On top of that, he gave us a bag of waters and candy as a welcome package. Coffee was available in the morning in the lobby. The room was spacious and I appreciated the two queens (as opposed to two doubles) with the Sleep Number that you could adjust for either side of the bed. It was clean and comfortable. read more

Rooms are spacious, everyone is so helpful. Staff is friendly and accommodating to all your needs. They seemed to really enjoy their work. You can't beat the free coffee and breakfast in the morning, large dining room with lots of coffee and teas. And a complimentary breakfast with everything you could want. Free wi-fi with a nice strong signal. They provide a computer room with desks and computers for getting things done, it was nice to be able to print our boarding passes and stuff. We were there for our daughters graduation from U of I, but would stay there again. read more

The hotel is nice they have free manager special Mon-thurs (6-8pm drinks and light food). The rooms are pretty new along with the hotel. The staff is very nice and always treats me good. Although I like to get points from Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton. Normally avoid all IHG branded hotel this one is better than most. And prefer it when staying in Bloomington. I honestly don't know what to say other than I'm appalled. My girlfriend and I were looking for a cheap hotel for a night for our 1 year anniversary and thought we had found one. We were wrong of course. We called Holiday Inn and the front desk clerk answered an quoted us $59!!! We couldn't believe it. We wanted to wait to book in person just to make sure because thought it was too good to be true. When we got there I gave her my card to pay and confirmed that the room was $59 and she said yes. I then asked for a receipt to make sure everything was correct. She then told me she couldn't print a receipt because I had to wait until check out. Not a big deal at least until check out. Then when I checked out I asked for my receipt only to find I was $159 $100 more than what I was told. I of course was quite irate and wanted to know why I was charged so much. The new front desk clerk didn't even apologize just told me there was nothing she could do and awkwardly waited for me to leave. Upon checking my bank account I had found $204 was taken out from holiday inn with more fees then I was told about. Of course the icing on the cake is the management there. I have talked to the manager Dawn and so has my girlfriend. A lot of words come to mind but I would say unprofessional, unpleasant, impolite, rude and definitely not helpful. I would double check and maybe even triple check you know the right price and get a receipt before staying there. read more

He was incredibly accommodating and fixed the price. The rooms were very clean and the front desk was very friendly. Very attentive staff - exceptionally clean room. On time shuttle, going and coming. Very helpful housekeeping staff. Had my res ready to go and ready on check out. A daily USA Today outside my room door each morning. Almost instant hot water in the shower. Cold water in the sink faucet was really, really cold, too - not room temperature like almost every other place. Nice flat panel TVs w/ HD programming (no local PBS though and channel TV guide was off by one for each station. I can live w/ that). Bed was pretty comfortable, too. There have been some other reviews in which it is suggested there are no other places to eat other than the hotel restaurant (which was reasonably busy during weekday lunches and at dinner). While I'm not commenting on the various types of restaurants, there are several w/in seasonal walking distance (1/4 mile) if you go eastbound on 94th to Lyndale. There is a Chinese restaurant, an Arby's, a DQ and if you turn right and go south (all w/in 1/4 mile) there are a McDonalds, a White Castle, an Applebees, and a couple others I can't recall. The hotel shuttle offers complementary service to/from MOA. read more

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. I have been there 3 times, and every time it is amazing! The staff is awesome, and always willing to help in any way. There is complimentary breakfast and a dinner meal, granted there isn't a large selection, but what do you expect, it is not a buffet. The free beer and wine are not bad either.
