I think the thing I liked most about this hotel is it's location. Across the street from the mall and many restaurants. One place even reminded me of the TV show Cheers. The bartender was nice and helpful in selecting a drink. The rooms were clean to the eye and nose. I will definitely stay here again when I come back.

    Basic. Comfortable.

There is much to like about this Marriott Courtyard for a night or two; friendly staff, it's clean, in a good location, a comfortable bed and a reasonable price for a downtown hotel. But there are also areas that are in need of improvement; a musty mildew smell in the bathroom, ripped curtain in the bedroom, breakfast not included and an overall a need for an update of the entire guest rooms. So if you don't need a five star upscale hotel, Marriott Courtyard is a good choice to consider.

Overall this was okay. Nothing fancy nor updated but it was okay. The staff was nice for the most part. Due to covid, your room isn't serviced everyday which I wasn't aware of. Pets are allowed which is nice and pleases know you have to pay $30 a day for parking. The breakfast wasn't buffet or automatically included. However when I booked, I got breakfast included. You get a voucher card and get to order a meal and a drink off the menu but it doesn't include any of the Starbucks drinks. The food wasn't the bes. The omelette was gross but the French toast was okay.

In early September, our train from New York to Boston was stopped in Providence late at night due to flooding of the track and area ahead so we booked a room at the Providence Marriott Downtown to hopefully be able to resume our travel in the morning. Our stay was shockingly bad--from the attitudes of the employees to the condition of the room. Everything reflected such a pervasive lack of care that it must be a top-down management issue. * SHUTTLE DRIVER: It was pouring rain. The shuttle driver that came to pick us up at the Amtrak station drove past us--so we had to walk to him--and then he made no effort to help us with our luggage. He didn't even open the back of the van from inside. Instead, he just sat there as we struggled to lift our luggage into the passenger area of the van, where there were no luggage racks, while negotiating our umbrellas in the rain. When we got to the hotel, he again made no move at all to help with our luggage. * NIGHT-TIME CHECK-IN FRONT-DESK CLERK: She was not warm or welcoming, and barely helpful. Not quite how Marriott advertises "Bonvoy." My husband's sister had tried to book the room using her Marriott points to help us out in this emergency but the points did not go through/could not be accessed. The desk clerk was not concerned or helpful. *THE ROOM: The room was old, with mismatched furniture, no plugs on one side of the bed so either my husband or would have had to plug in our phone somewhere else in the room. *THE BATHROOM: - Had worn, thin towels , - Had mildewed grout, and - Had mildew at the bottom of the shower curtain *THE ENVIRONS: We were so tired an just wanted to get some sleep before resuming our interrupted trip home in the morning. It was after midnight when we went to bed only to then hear extremely loud banging sounds coming from outside. We listened for awhile to see if it was just a momentary thing--but it continued. We called down to the desk and the new clerk who had come on after midnight informed us that unfortunately there was road work being done right next to the hotel and nothing could be done about it. *THE COST: $284 for the night. Outrageous--especially given all of the deficits. When we got back to Boston, my husband contacted Marriott to let them know that our room and our stay had not been good--especially given the price and how Marriott advertises their philosophy. The manager sent a banal email that he was sorry that our experience was disappointing but that he hoped we would stay with them again. That was it. Really??? Horrible, horrible, horrible. Never staying at a Marriott ever again.

Random hair in shower when we arrived
    Rose D.

Paid $550 for reunion weekend for a small dark dirty room. Found hairs in the shower and around the toilet and debris in the sink as soon as we entered. Towels had stains. One coffee pod was available. This is price gouging at its finest.

The only issue I had was that I requested a late check-out and the person working the counter really gave me a hard time about it. I understand that late check-outs aren't guaranteed, but her attitude about it was really off. She kept insisting that I need to speak with her manager to approve it, but she never offered to get the manager. I just gave up and decided to speak with someone else the next day. When I came by the next day, the person working let us have the 2pm check-out and the manager did happen to walk by and said it was not an issue at all. And it turns out the girl from the night before did mark me as a 1pm check-out. Honestly, though, this was still an issue because housekeeping came at 1pm to clean the room... The room itself was a room. Clean and standard to Hampton Inn. The bathroom was good, with a nice shower stall and good water pressure but a low flow toilet. My room was in a separate part of the building with only like 6 rooms on the floor. This was nice when it came to hotel noise. However, the windows are very thin and the complaints about car drag racing all night are not incorrect. The location of this hotel was fantastic, an easy walk to many of the sights in the area. One day we decided to take the shuttle and that was fabulous. This hotel is worth staying at for the shuttle alone.

Let's start with the good: Free breakfast was nothing…read morespecial but sufficient. Hot breakfast included eggs and sausage. There were cereals and breads and fruit. Coffee, teas, juices. I like staying at these places because breakfast is usually not a big deal for me. The FREE SHUTTLE goes within 2 miles of the hotel. I stayed here two different times and I probably caught the shuttle 6 different times. Jenn is the absolute best shuttle driver, super knowledgeable about the entire town, and remembered me when I came back the second time. I don't like taking Ubers by myself so having the shuttle was the best - the shuttle picked me up from the Amtrak station before I even checked in! Then it took me to the mall while I waited for my room to be ready. Location: super convenient to eateries, and just across the river from Brown, RISD, Thayer St, and walkable to the waterfront. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. THE BAD: Both times I stayed, my room faced the street and at night people race cars on those streets! The street noise is REALLY LOUD.

Really odd stay:…read more Stayed in suite, w beautiful old furniture. Carpeted and upholstery everywhere; very dark rooms with very dim lamps. Not great for a person allergic, as this place is also pet friendly and there is dander everywhere. Luckily the bathroom was well lit. There is coffee service (but the coffee is cold, oddly, despite their being in vacuum dispensers); there is also snack service (appreciated!); the lobby is beautiful but not peaceful to sit in because the desk people are extremely loud and screaming at the top of their lungs to each other at all times. Upon check in I thought it hilarious that I couldn't understand a word she was saying. (I'm a native English speaker.) There is a vending machine which does not vend, which then eats your money then returns it in quarters. The expensive valet doesn't help with bags. The desk people disappear at night for large amounts of time, so no one is there if you need your key re programmed (they gave us one bent key which only sometimes worked, then blamed us for bending it; the next day neither worked; the replacements didn't work; the desk girl 'blamed' it on the person registering us (which was herself, the same incomprehensible person aforementioned.) The walls are very thin and we were kept up by loud people all night; additionally there is some kind of strobe light shining in through the curtain in the middle of the night, which woke us up. The hair dryer only blows cold air. On the way back home we discovered itchy welts. Now in reading all these, I wonder if we stayed in a bedbug infested room. I wouldn't doubt it, based on all my itching and it being so dark in there. The curtains only opened halfway by design. A note about the area - as someone mentioned, there are homeless people wandering about/loitering the entire time. We chose this place due to it being 'downtown', but on a Sunday, most things are not open. There are few open restaurants/shops, but in the area most spaces are vacant. Check internet listings, as many places are permanently closed. Basically I sat around waiting for most of the day due to this. Additionally most places which ARE open close early for dinner. Other: the wifi worked consistently, but unsecured. The 'Backstage' restaurant staff is friendly; but it closes early as well, despite the signage. Therefore you cannot access the outside courtyard during non -restaurant hours. They have really nice (albeit very very fragrant) soap in a community dispenser. The furniture is beautiful.

This hotel is lackluster at best and dated for the typical quality you'd expect from the Marriott brand, basically a Marriott disguised as a 3-star hotel. Other than the fancy lobby areas (which they upkeep to make you think it's high class) the room itself is musky, old and outdated. Vents were dusty, and I found a water bug in my room on arrival, but after a long day of flying and unpacking your bag, no one wants to move rooms. Parking is a steep charge $32 a night for not even covered parking which wraps around the building because several close spots are for preferred club members. Of course no complimentary breakfast is provided (expensive restaurant) but at least they had coffee in the morning. One nice thing was the shuttle service that will take you within a couple miles, and service/drinks at the bar was great. I would not say the location was amazing, as it is downtown but appears a bit away from a prime spot full of bars/restaurants.
