Checking in was super easy. I did it through the app and it was easy to come to the desk and pick up my keys. The only issue I had was that I requested a late check-out and the person working the counter really gave me a hard time about it. I understand that late check-outs aren't guaranteed, but her attitude about it was really off. She kept insisting that I need to speak with her manager to approve it, but she never offered to get the manager. I just gave up and decided to speak with someone else the next day. When I came by the next day, the person working let us have the 2pm check-out and the manager did happen to walk by and said it was not an issue at all. And it turns out the girl from the night before did mark me as a 1pm check-out. Honestly, though, this was still an issue because housekeeping came at 1pm to clean the room... The room itself was a room. Clean and standard to Hampton Inn. The bathroom was good, with a nice shower stall and good water pressure but a low flow toilet. My room was in a separate part of the building with only like 6 rooms on the floor. This was nice when it came to hotel noise. However, the windows are very thin and the complaints about car drag racing all night are not incorrect. The location of this hotel was fantastic, an easy walk to many of the sights in the area. One day we decided to take the shuttle and that was fabulous. This hotel is worth staying at for the shuttle alone. read more

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The general manager is absentee, the staff is rude and will hang up on you while airing grievances. Apparently house cleaning is every other day despite charging four season rates, requiring minimum stays with 30 day cancellation policies. Wake up early because valet parking is really the only option and a huge morning bottleneck is certain. read more

Let's start with the good: Free breakfast was nothing special but sufficient. Hot breakfast included eggs and sausage. There were cereals and breads and fruit. Coffee, teas, juices. I like staying at these places because breakfast is usually not a big deal for me. The FREE SHUTTLE goes within 2 miles of the hotel. I stayed here two different times and I probably caught the shuttle 6 different times. Jenn is the absolute best shuttle driver, super knowledgeable about the entire town, and remembered me when I came back the second time. I don't like taking Ubers by myself so having the shuttle was the best - the shuttle picked me up from the Amtrak station before I even checked in! Then it took me to the mall while I waited for my room to be ready. Location: super convenient to eateries, and just across the river from Brown, RISD, Thayer St, and walkable to the waterfront. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. THE BAD: Both times I stayed, my room faced the street and at night people race cars on those streets! The street noise is REALLY LOUD. read more

I really like the building kept the historic part of the old building, like mail box and the mailing system. It was so interesting to see! My wife and I stayed there 4 nights in late May for events at Brown. The room was big (sort of a suite, with a couch and little kitchen area) and clean. The free breakfast was okay. We felt safe walking to and from Brown at night, which we did several times. The best thing, though, was the staff. They recommended a Portuguese restaurant when we asked for one (it was not on their list of nearby places), and we liked it a lot (took a Lyft). They lent my wife an umbrella when hers broke. The last day I caught Covid and they gave us some really good N95 masks. Just read some reviews of horrid (but cheaper) nearby hotels. I would definitely stay at this one again. read more

Selected this hotel purely for its proximity to waterfire, and it was a great choice. It is a block away from the start of the event, which was extremely convenient when we needed to pop back into the room for a break or to use the restroom. The location is superb, with walking distance to downtown, college hill area and boat tours. The complimentary breakfast was convenient for a quick bite before exploring the city. The room was spacious, even though I did have a view of the garage next door :) The service was great and they even allowed us to check out an hour later as we wanted to grab lunch before heading out. The only downside was the high fee for valet ($32), although that is completely on par with most hotels in the heart of downtowns. There is a private garage adjacent to the hotel that only charged $25/day, and I saw a number of hotel guests parked there. However I don't know if they offer in and out privileges. Given the great hotel location, we ended up only using the car once during our two night stay. Also, there is a complimentary hotel shuttle that will take you "anywhere you need to go" according to the driver (didn't use it so don't know how far you can go with it). Overall, fantastic stay, highly recommend if you are planning a trip to Providence. read more

Had some issues with the valet parking - so I'd recommend parking yourself and paying to be in the lot next door for cheaper (which is where they'll park you anyway), but otherwise I strongly recommend this hotel! read more

We recently spent 3 nights at this centrally located hotel and were able to walk to restaurants, the canal, museums and various other attractions. The fact that the hotel is a repurposed bank is quite obvious on entering. Hotel personnel were uniformly pleasant and helpful. Valet parking is offered at $28 per night, but we opted for the adjacent Arcade Garage ($22). One caution is the garage is closed from 9PM on Friday until early Monday morning. Another option is the open lot situated immediately behind the hotel that currently costs $20. Our room was comfortable though hardly luxurious, but served our needs. T We opted to forego daily room service, but requested a change in towels for our final night. The included breakfast is typical of chain hotels though modified due to the pandemic. Overall we were happy with our experience and would not hesitate to return. read more

Overall it was an OK place, nice historic building that they have renovated to turn into a hotel. Room was nice and clean, it looked out at the next door parking garage but it's sort of to be expected as it's in the middle of a couple taller buildings. I had issues with TV channels not coming in but they said it could be the weather but I was there for several nights so not sure what was wrong. The breakfast was good, the service people for the meal were fast and kept things well stocked. The room are not as bad as one expects walking in and being hit by the smell and shabbiness on the place. The room are actually clean albeit run down. The breakfast is exactly as disgusting as you can expect. However the billing is not trustworthy. They fixed the books and scammed me for about 200$. I arrived late by one day of my week long stay. I perfectly expected to pay for the day I wasn't there. However my reservation was cancelled. I was told that they'll try to restore my reservation next morning. They guy took my credit car for this night's stay and said that "you are lucky, we didn't charge you no show fee". The next day I was told my reservation was restored except the first night and I'm lucky they didn't charge my no show fee. At the checkout I was given my receipt. I asked multiple time that I want all changes to be on the receipt, and was told the extra night change would clear as soon as the process my week long stay. They told me not to worry and that all changed to my name or to my credit card are in the receipt. However: I checked my credit card statement several days after departure. My first day charge was reclassified as no show charge and backdated AND they also charged me for the rest of the stay. I still had scans of my credit card charges to prove the backdated charge didn't exist, and called them to ask why they backdated the charge which they told me they won't charge me at all, and why they didn't put the charge on my receipt! They kept being adamant that my credit card was in file at reservation and it was made by me personally. It wasn't, it was made by the job. Let me be clear again. I was fine with a no show fee, or with full week charge, if either was on my receipt. But I'm not ok with being lied to. They lied, they fixed the books, and they illegally charged me 200$ as afterthought after my departure. On the day of departure I submitted my reimbursement for the trip at work with the charges on the receipt they gave me. They promised no other charges except on the receipt would be applied, and I trusted them to he professional. Instead the fixed the books, and costed me 200$ out of pocket for a work trip. Needless to say, I would never stay at this hotel again. And I recommend you to avoid this place too. Being professional in billing is a pretty low bar to meet, and this place doesn't meet it. read more

Color me very satisfied: good service, great location, a very reasonable price among other downtown hotels, in quite an attractive property both inside and out that is far above the usual standard of the Hampton brand. The hotel has been converted from an eleven-story 1920 bank building; this is most smartly reflected in the two-story atrium-style lobby. Our room was tastefully appointed and everything was fresh and crisp. I can't think of a single complaint about the age or appearance of the furnishings. A particularly nice touch were the wall hangings--framed local photographs rather than the usual bland "art." The hotel location is in the heart of downtown, for all your businessy needs, but also a short walk across the river and up the hill is the Brown University campus. The only major demerit is the $25 per night valet parking. There is no self-parking associated with the hotel, although apparently there is a private garage behind the hotel which may be $15 per day. After a long day of traveling and checking in late, it would be nice to see a friendly staff welcoming you. Nope! The female at the front barely made eye contact and was very robotic. Would it hurt to just crack a smile and have a friendly face!? I asked for water bottles and she said only for diamond and elite statuses. I told her Silver status also gets water. STAY#1: Rooms were clean and staff were always very nice. Close to everything we wanted & needed to do. Doors and elevator require a key card to enter which offered an extra level of security. Accommodated our early check in without any issue. Having access to a mini fridge was part of why we chose to stay here- they wheeled it into the room for no extra charge. Bonus points for 24/7 coffee, tea, hot water, and citrus water in the lobby! Free breakfast was intriguing and also part of the reason we booked. Why not have the option of breakfast for the same price as a room that doesn't offer this amenity. HOWEVER, I will say it was difficult to find out any info about it. We have allergies throughout my family (gluten, dairy, nuts) and have to be cautious. No one was able to show us ingredients lists (the food comes precooked in label-less bags) or knew what was actually in the food. For example: Do the scrambled eggs have milk? Are the sausages pork? They serve: Eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, cold cereal (all cereal options contained gluten), pastries & bread, yogurt, sad looking apples & oranges, sometimes bananas, fruit salad (was empty every time I went down but someone told me it was pretty gross), packages of Quaker oatmeal, and juice. Almond milk available. If I had to make any suggestion to the hotel, I'd say for the love of god, please at least allow your guests to have access to ingredients lists. Providence is a progressive town and this was very common everywhere we went. Put it in a binder at the front desk for whoever might need it. It would be really great if you had a few simple allergen friendly substitutions available if requested. For example: have a few single serve boxes of cereal that don't have gluten, or a few single serve boxes of oat milk for folks with nut allergies. Parking: we chose to do use the parking at the hotel. For $30/night with in and out privileges. The parking next door was appealing at $20, however once they close you do not have access to your car until they open again the the AM. STAY #2: Lovely once again. They accommodated our early check in again thankfully. Update on food: This time for hot options they had (in addition to other items) plain tater tots, hard boiled eggs, and instead of oatmeal packets they had plain hot oatmeal. I don't think I've ever been more excited to see a plain egg lol. There was no cold water available at the 24/7 coffee/tea station unfortunately, so we had to buy bottled water. read more

Stayed here the three times I've come to Providence, and I have been consistently wowed, and have yet to have an issue with anything about this hotel. Staff are always super friendly and accommodating. They really know the general area and are willing to give directions to all the sites and great places to dine. There's even a complimentary shuttle that will take you around town if you request it, and a trip to or from the airport, if scheduled in advance, is $10 on their van. The building itself is very nice, and rooms are all newly refurbished. They hold a high bar for cleanliness as the halls, common areas, and rooms are always cleaned to perfection. Definitely great for families as the rooms are spacious and the free morning breakfast offers a variety of cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, hot and cold beverages, make-your-own waffles, dress-your-own oatmeal, and a daily rotating selection of hot eggs, french toast, and meats. No time to sit down and eat in their beautiful dining area? They have paper bags of to-go breakfasts with pastry, fruit, and bottled water. There's 24/7 hot coffee and tea downstairs near the front desk, and in the afternoon, they set out hot cookies. During the Stella storm that shut down the city, the staff ordered an array of delicious sammies, wraps, and sweets from Au Bon Pain so no one had to trek out into the rough weather conditions. They also brought in another order for the dinner period as well. Amazing customer service, some of the best I've ever had at a simple hotel chain before. Although priced around the same as some of the boutique/swankier hotels in the downtown area, this place is definitely situated in a very central place. It's nicely offset the main road, less traffic, and near great selection of restaurants and cafes, and right across the street from The Arcade. RISD and Brown are a short skip over the bridge, as is Hemenway's. read more

Yesterday, winter storm Stella hit Providence; the city was totally shut down. Businesses and restaurants were closed. It was a pleasant surprise to go downstairs of this hotel to find complimentary lunch served. Sandwiches, cookies, and chips were laid out for stranded hotel guests. It was a gracious and thoughtful gesture of the Hampton Inn. This is my third stay at this Hampton Inn in Providence and staff have always been cordial and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. On request, one can have a refrigerator and microwave placed in the room at no charge. I like a availability of complimentary daily breakfast; it is convenient to just go downstairs for a quick meal. Also, coffee and tea are available in the lobby 24/7. I recommend this Hampton Inn because of its amenities, friendly staff, and location in downtown Providence. read more

The hotel has all the advantages and disadvantages of being located downtown. For me, the disadvantages outweighed the advantages, the principal one being street noise. This is especially bad one weekend nights when besotted and noisy people leave the bars. This made satisfactory sleep very challenging. The building is old (which is not a problem in itself) but it means that the windows need upgrading for better sound-proofing. I would not return. read more

Pros: This hotel is close to a lot of colleges and is convenient if visiting said colleges, like Brown, RISD, or J&W. The staff (front desk, shuttle drivers, etc) was friendly, nice, and helpful. They had free breakfast in the morning until 10am. There are toiletries available if you forget anything. They seem to spread people out around the hotel if there is space available to do so. They also have a gym. Cons: There was construction going on outside the hotel early in the morning, which is not the hotel's fault but is still annoying, and also was the case last year when I went. It was really bright in my room and I couldn't shut the curtains to make it darker, making it hard to sleep in past 7am. My room card didn't work for two of the three days I was there (the same thing happened to my coworker for one of the days) and it wasn't due to it being near something else magnetic. The walls are pretty thin so you can hear what's happening in the hallway and other rooms. Everything seems a little run down, not in the sense that things are broken, just old. read more

The staff at this hotel is among the rudest I've ever encountered. On April 19th 2023 I reserved a room for my friends at this hotel that had two queen beds, but when they arrived on April 29th there was just one king bed in the room. When we arrived at the front desk to explain the situation we were in, Celina was clearly not in the mood to help. She said, "We are fully booked, I don't know what you want me to do" when we complained about receiving the wrong room. In response to our question, "So your okay with some of your guest sleeping on the floor?" she responded, "I don't know what you want me to tell you." When she noticed we had used a third party to make our reservation, she told us, third parties don't display which rooms are vacant, So now I'm screwed since I used a third-party app to make my reservation? The security guard who intervened became very nasty with several of the women in our group. What adult man would talk to a woman that way? He continued telling us, "There's nothing we can do for you," but when we tried to explain, he became rude. A rolling bed was the most they could offer for the night, they explained. We didn't want our guest to have to sleep on the floor, so we agreed. To be honest, I think I would have preferred sleeping on the floor then on that rolling bed. When it came time to check out on April 30th, we went to talk with the hotel manager, Claire, and all I can say is that I can't believe someone like her is in charge of the establishment. You should take it up with the third party you booked through, we did what we could is all she kept saying. We told her that after making the reservation, we called the hotel and were assured by a staff member of this hotel that we would be given the room with two queen beds. It was obvious that she wasn't getting what we were saying since she kept responding with nonsense. Another employee at this hotel that didn't want to help us, but isn't that the manager's responsibility? A different woman who happened to be listening to our conversation came over to us and offered suggestions for how we might be able to get our money back; she's the kind of person who should be running this hotel. Unlike Claire, who was constantly rude and unhelpful. When we dropped off our room keys Claire told us we are never allowed to book at this hotel again. You may be certain, Claire, that I will never, ever return to this hotel and will do all in my power to ensure that my friends, family and everyone else do the same. I really enjoyed this hotel. From the time I checked in, when the desk staff were friendly and solicitous, to the time I left, I felt very well taken care of. The spacious room, actually a mini-suite with a large sitting area and a kitchenette, nonetheless felt cozy. The bed was firm and supremely comfortable. Housekeeping was meticulous, and didn't start too early -- the last a plus for me, as I take vacation mornings slow! The included breakfast spread, taking in both cold and hot foods along with juices and coffee/tea, was excellent (as it usually is at Hampton Inns). The location -- on the edge of the financial district and adjoining the "Downcity Arts District" -- was perfect for my purposes: I could get to Federal Hill (Little Italy), Providence Place, the theatres, the secondhand bookshops, and Brown University all relatively easily. (From my previous hotels, trips to one area or another proved more troublesome.) My small but increasingly frequent cavil: the bedside and standup lamps in the room were not quite bright enough to read by. I know my eyes are aging, but it seems odd that I can read outdoors, even under overcast skies, but couldn't do so by a bulb directly next to me! Also, the large-screen TV is in the sitting area rather than the "bedroom." There's no trouble watching TV from the bed, but you can't really read the "Guide Channel" or even the individual channel information from there -- you have to be in the sitting area. Still, this is going to be my go-to hotel for future visits to Providence! read more

We stayed here for a quick getaway for Valentine's Day this year. The location was great. We visited during a bad storm but they had valet with a covered garage which was perfect. We were able to check in early, which was nice since we were only there one night. The front desk staff was very nice. The room was very clean, although it did smell too much like Febreeze. The bed was spectacular. I rarely sleep well in hotels but I slept like a baby that night. While in the elevator, an employee was chatting with use. The hotel put her up for the night so she didn't have to go home during the storm. I thought this was really nice. The next morning, they had a big spread for breakfast, although we did not eat there. When desk held our bags until 1 PM and let us watch TV in the lobby until the snow lightened up. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel and would recommend it. read more

This hotel is beautiful. Unfortunately, I had a room with no view. The hotel is located downtown near everything. You have to pay for parking at $20 a night. The elevator is key controlled, so security is tight. The room I had did not have a fridge or a microwave, but was able to get one in my room after speaking with the other staff member.....after being told by another staff member that they could not get me a fridge. Anyway, the room was clean and breakfast is the typical hampton spread. Except they did have cookies available through the day and biscotti, which were yummy. I stayed here for business. The hotel is clean, offers great interior comforts, and has a friendly staff. The breakfast is complimentary and a step above continental. The safety of the hotel offers elevators that only operate with a room key and front doors that also require a room key. The downtown area is a good location but the city seems a bit abandoned at night, walking to a decent restaurant takes under ten minutes. The fitness center was clean and offered enough to get a good workout. I did not have a vehicle but understand parking can be pricey. Bonus: 24 hours hot tea and coffee and cookies after 4 :) read more

It's Hilton (like a boss) for the budget-minded traveler (like a mid-level manager). You're not going to be wowed by modern architecture, progressive design elements or trip-hop blaring from the übersocial, after-hours hot spot lobby called LahB. Mainly because it's a hotel that feels like a hotel and does hotel things, like provide a bed to sleep in and a continental breakfast to eat and on-demand movies that you would never buy but like to read the descriptions to see exactly how hotels try to market their porn. Yknow, the usual. Thing is - this Hampton does it extremely well. Late check-in was not an issue, and if you time it right, there is street parking around the central location that shuts down at 8p. Pulling an overnighter? If you plan on being out by 10am the next morning, you can skip the exorbitant valet parking ($25) or the cheaper lot across the street ($15) and settle on a well-lit 2hr spot anytime after 6p for free ninety-nine, plus tax and tip. Once you get to your room, you will find it to be clean, chock full o' free internet (take a note, Westin) and centered around a crazy comfortable bed. Seriously, I don't sleep very well outside of my own kingly Queen, and this mattress from on high knocked me out cold. On your waking moment, a complimentary feast of buffet-grade goodies awaits your morning meal cravings. Omelets, waffles, bacon, cereals, granola, bacon, orange juice, yogurt and bacon good for the gettin' and if you need to hightail it immediately, there are pre-packed bags o' brekkie at the front desk.
