Cousins AC replaced our AC about two years ago. The price was reasonable, they had to fix the botched work that Parker did and Cousins did so effectively without breaking our wallet. Yesterday, our AC was having trouble keeping the temperature so we reached out to Cousins and they had a technician, Bryan, here within a few hours. My home is in West Phoenix roughly five miles from their office in Glendale. But they say Im not in their service area. My A/C went out on a Sunday and I jumped on nextdoor for some recommendations since my A/C guy for many years retired. Wow. This experience tops any I have ever had. I asked the extremely rude guy who answered the phone, how much the trip charge was. He said $195 and I said Nope, and hung up. I could have said, no thanks, but Im hot, my dogs are hot and given his attitude I didn't feel inclined. He then called me back. I told him I said no, and he asked me what I would charge to be away from my family on a Sunday. Given the inappropriate nature of this strange business call, I told him to fuck off and I moved on. I posted this to nextdoor because as a referral, people should know what they're dealing with. He then proceeds to fight me publicly on nextdoor, claiming to have 'witnesses ' thats right...he said that. Then threatened me (Ill post a screenshot). Bottom line...this place is BAD! I don't usually write reviews, but I feel obligated to share our experience to help others avoid the headache we've gone through. We hired Cousins Air Conditioning for a repair job, and not only did they refuse to provide an invoice, they also never gave us a written contract, which violates Arizona law (confirmed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, who issued them a formal warning). When I asked for an invoice, instead of responding like any professional business would, the owner threatened legal action and actually filed a lawsuit. We never refused to pay--we just wanted a breakdown of the charges before handing over money. We even offered to pay the full amount (plus interest) just to be done with it, but they rejected it, insisting on racking up legal fees instead. The motherboard they claimed to replace looked used, the fan motor was installed without proper authorization, and when we raised concerns, we were threatened with a lien on our house and damage to our credit. Bottom line: no transparency, no professionalism, and absolutely no accountability. It felt like we were being bullied into paying without being told what we were even paying for. Be careful. I had written a wonderful review of Cousins Air Conditioning when Mike first checked my AC unit back in May 2020... our AC went out, Mike showed up within minutes and replaced the Freon. He gave me a quote for a new unit since ours was over 20 years old. Hubby and I decided it was best to replace the old unti. Mike quoted us a great price, didn't charge us for the Freon he had just put in. His crew arrived the next day, and did an awesome job taking out the old and replacing everything for a new HVAC unit. Our experience using Cousins for a service call last summer put them on the top of our list when getting quotes to replace both of our 22-year-old central AC units in our two-story home. We got quotes from 3 other highly-reviewed contractors, and Cousins was the lowest (we would have gladly paid a little more to go with them). Their price for installed top-tier 5 and 4 ton units was so reasonable, we added a mini-split AC to the garage. After two days of work, Mike's seasoned crew completed the job yesterday. After waiting a day for my home warranty company to respond to an AC leak that was causing water problems in my garage and utility room, I gave up and called Cousins on my own. This was in the middle of the hot summer and later in the day. Michael came within 2 hours and fixed the problem. He showed me what the root cause of the issue was and what would need to be done to make sure it didn't happen again and recommended putting in sensors to detect water leaks. He also recommended a company to clean up the water. When I had a minor problem a year ago, it took my warranty company 11 days to get service to me and get the repair done. I will be having Cousins do the additional work on the AC for me and will be cancelling my home warranty going forward. I'm always skeptical of a business that has all 5 star ratings on social media and the internet, requiring extra due diligence before selecting a contractor, which is what I saw for Cousins Air Conditioning and Heating. When I inquired on Nextdoor for an air conditioning company I got a lot of recommendations, but what was obvious is Cousins had 10 to 1 in every inquiry for the company to hire. Fast forward, Mike Jones, owner of Cousins came out to look at our current situation, made recommendations based on our floor plan and living arrangements. Very low key, no pressure conversation. We hired Mike and within three days (due to our timing) his crew was at our door, ready to replace our system. His employee's were on time, very tidy in their work area and extremely professional. It's not often that I write a Yelp review, but my experience with Cousins was exceptional. I'm writing this review because of the exceptional level of service and professionalism, and, honesty, that Mike from Cousins provided. The air conditioning in my rental house suddenly stopped blowing out cool air in the middle of the Phoenix monsoon season. The outdoor temperature was well over 100F and humid. Mike from Cousins came to my house for an emergency house call. Tomorrow's temperature was to be 113F, so I was worried that I was at the mercy of Mike and I would have to accept whatever fix he proposed as well as the cost. Well.....it turned out to be just a couple of capacitors that needed replacing! When a repairperson comes to your house, there is always the thought in the back of your head of whether this person is trustworthy or is this person going to run up the bill.
