I asked her how much lobster do you get in the lobster bisque She said one ounce of lobster is in a 32 ounce (one 32 ounce container costs $35) before taxes. Cousin's Maine Lobster Truck is a weird experience. It was fun to do once. I am probably not going to follow the truck from town to town so I never miss a single chance to get a lobster roll. * * * Cousin's Maine Lobster is a franchise of very very mobile trucks that sell lobster rolls. They also sell other lobster-on-top-of-stuff dishes. Their gimmick which I am not sure is a plus is to have no fixed location. They publish a list of places where the truck will be every week - generally one location for lunch and the other location for dinner. The Central Texas Truck could be anywhere from Georgetown to San Antonio. You can't just go there when you want unless you are willing to drive from Austin to San Antonio or San Antonio to Georgetown to get your lobster roll. * * * One consequence of being eternally mobile is that the truck has no regular or guaranteed access to a bathroom. You go to a brick and mortar restaurant - and the health code will require that that restaurant have a bathroom. Most food courts have some sort of bathroom - either one owned by the food court or one in a gas station or convenience store near the food court. Cousin's has nothing. So you not only have to plan ahead for when the truck is going to be within driving distance of you ... but you also have to plan to have done all of your personal business BEFORE you go to order from the truck. I do NOT consider this to be a positive feature. * * * There is also the issue of WHERE you eat your lobster preparation once you have received it. You could eat in your car. (For Samuel C that means a guaranteed necessary trip to a car wash.) There was almost no place to sit near where Cousins was located my day which was in the Yuppie complex of apartments near Oracle near Riverside. The park near where the truck was stationed has no park benches. I found ONE bench on the street mercifully provided by an apartment complex. Without that one bench I would have been scroodled. * * * I am from New England and have lots of experience with lobster. My personal opinion is that the way to eat lobster is boiled with a vast quantity of melted butter for dipping. The downside of a lobster roll is that the bread hides the taste of the lobster. This makes your investment in expensive raw materials kind of a waste. Mixing lobster with stronger tasting ingredients - which is what Cousin's does on the dump-ons - allows the stronger tasting ingredients to compensate for the diminished lobster experience. This is the way to go with Cousins. I did a Lobster On Tater Tots With Sauce concept and was not displeased. * * * Lobster should be boiled fresh from the fishing boat and eaten right on the spot. (For a related concept, see corn on the cob.) This is why people go to Maine for lobster and why clambakes with the shellfish just obtained an hour before the clambake make good sense. Shipping your lobster from Maine to Texas isn't terrible since the lobster is in water. Taking the lobster out of the shell and making raw ingredients for your lobster roll or lobster taco has started the clock ticking. As it happens ... The lobster gets old and stronger. This actually turns out to be a plus if you are dumping your lobster on tater tots. Eating old strong fish is an institution in Korean cooking. They like mackerel and other potent fish that pack a pow ... And aging the fish provides a taste Koreans really like. With lobster, aging gives you an ingredient that can stand up to being mixed with other ingredients. * * * This is all well and good. But it is not fresh lobster straight off the boat boiled and served in its natural goodness with only melted butter for a garnish. Some regional foods just don't travel. read more

I also now kind of understand when some chefs say seafood and cheese don't belong together...I got the Lobster grilled cheese which was OK but not sure if lobster wasn't "fresh" or what but didn't have great taste or texture or if the cheese used didn't go well with it...definitely a gimmicky place as noted by the Sharktank ads all over but won't be seeking out again. read more

This food truck came to my apartment community and after 2 years of working with food truck vendors in coordinating schedules, I have eaten my fair share of food truck cuisine. The truck itself looked great and I'm always a fan of the added convenience, but I was incredibly underwhelmed by the quality of the food. We ordered lobster tail and tots as well as the clam chowder (gluten free!!) Unfortunately, the lobster tail was flavorless and the butter tasted unsalted (also flavorless). Perhaps it would have had more flavor if we were in Maine. As a lover of seafood, I was trying to show my sister how delicious lobster tail can be and this just further reinforced the idea for her that lobster is bland and not worth the money or effort. The tots were delicious and crispy, but so are tots from Sonic and other fast food locations. The clam chowder was good, but compared equally to my preferred brand of gluten free grocery store clam chowder. This was the third food truck I've ordered lobster from and I have to say it ranked dead last, compared to the others (1st place goes to J's Hibachi Food Truck). I always appreciate supporting food trucks, but this is probably not one I would order from again. More of a 2.5/5 than a 3/5. read more

Mediocre bisque with little lobster and FAR overpriced. We'd seen them on Shark Tank and noticed their food truck outside Bear King in Cottonwood Shores, TX. We got the 32 oz. lobster bisque, but the very surprising price was $30 plus tax! (The same size fresh lobster bisque at a nearby Horseshoe Bay grocery is at least as good for less than half the price, with no tipping expected.) Even more surprizing (in a bad way) was the tiny amount of lobster, which came in a small side container (see photo). To add insult to injury, the iPad checkout screen encouraged us to tip the same "suggested" amounts we'd just encountered at the Mexican restaurant next door (with booth service, nice china, etc.) for NO service except a very pleasant window person who handed us the bisque in a paper bag. I had a Connecticut lobster roll and New England clam chowder. My wife had a Maine lobster roll with lobster bisque and the child had a grilled cheese and tater tots. All of us were very pleased with our choices. My Connecticut roll was buttery and rich. The bread did not get soggy and it was still nice and warm after the drive home. The chowder had tons of clams and really hit the spot on a cool night. Again, it is pricey, but really worth it. We are definitely coming back for more!!! read more

Lobster rolls are fantastic! Worth the drive. Lived in Maine and they taste like the local lobster pounds.

They came down to San Antonio today and I had to go try it and took a co-worker with me. I haven't eaten very much lobster so I can't really compare them to other resturants but I will say that what I had was very delicious. The guy recomended the Connecticut Roll and I also had a bowl of lobster bisque. The roll was chock-full of lobster and very rich. It was surprising how much it filled me up. My co-worker thought the same thing. At first he wasn't too keen on eating outside but was glad he went after we were finished. The bisque was also very tasty as well. I found out they come to SA every Sunday and are close to my work on the second Sunday. I'll definitely go back and try some of the other menu items. If you're not sure, just go. If you don't just know you're missing out. Funny thing is I had to go to New Braunfels this morning and passed them up on 35. I took it as a sign I had to go. Lol! read more

First of all, I'll say I liked the food and would try it over again. A few things to know though : the lobster roll is small. While I know lobster is a premium product, I don't feel the size of the role is equal to the price it costs. Secondly, the tots were soggy and extremely under seasoned. I know it sounds like I had an a terrible experience, it wasn't I just wish the you got more product for the price. Also seasoning is important so don't skimp on that salt and pepper! read more

Unimpressed. The food was cold and I ordered it fresh, as most people do. The idea of a lobster roll is fairly simple but the presentation is key. I have had many lobster rolls from many places. This roll was nothing special and the lobster was cold, I ordered Connecticut style so it's supposed to be warm with warm butter. I don't think there was any butter. The tater tots were counter cold' like they had been out for a while. The tots also seemed to be frozen grocery store style. It all gave me basic fast food vibes and a food truck should be more than that. At least in my experience, trucks are local with people making food with care and love. The established lobster truck in Austin is better, if you know you know. With all the buzz I was excited to try this but was left wanting more. The truck is the fanciest thing I've seen in the food truck world. Digital menu and TV running the owner history on a loop. Perhaps if they spent less time on the truck and possible franchise approach to the trucks image they'd have been able to focus on the food quality and temperature. This truck is amazing. We went to Liberty Hill to catch up with this truck and had lobster rolls, the chowder, and the lobster bisque. The employees recommend the clam chowder over the bisque and they're right. The lobster rolls are better than the ones we got when visiting Boston. The lobster is practically falling out of the roll itself and both our rolls had a big piece of claw meat on top. It's not a cheap date. Expect to pay $20-30 per person. But it's well worth it. We're driving out to find the truck again this week. And service was fast. For those who don't know the story, Cousins Maine Lobster was on Shark Tank. Barbara made the deal and says it's one of the best investments she's made. They started as Maine lobster fishermen who needed another outlet to sell their catch and now have some of the best and freshest lobster available. read more

I really wanted to love Cousins Maine Lobster, but it just wasn't what I expected. The truck is well decorated with screens to show how popular they area across the US and all the shows they've been on, so I was expecting pretty good food. I ordered the Lobster Tots and yes the price looks expensive, but you also have to keep in mind that you're getting lobster. For the price I got a lot of lobster, which I was very happy about. My issue was that it was pretty bland. If you got a tot without any sauce or toppings, it was lackluster. Even with the toppings, it just felt like there could have been more flavor. The chunks of lobster are large and I didn't get any shells unlike my sister. I did have a bite of her red velvet whoopie pie and it was pretty good! The guys in the food truck were very friendly and provided great service, even with the huge line they had to tackle. I ordered the Connecticut Roll, the Maine Roll, and the Lobster Tots. The Lobster Tots were my favorite because of the added sauce and pico. The rolls were good, but they are lobster on a piece of Texas toast. There was lots of lobster, but it was smaller than I expected especially at the price. Overall, the food was good and I'm glad I finally got to try it, but after tip it was $75 for two sandwiches and elevated tots from a food truck. Not worth the price, and I can't imagine that I'd go back. However, if you love lobster it's worth trying. Just be warned, you could go have an appetizer, steaks, and mixed drinks for 2 for the same price and be able to sit down and be served. read more

Wife and I got in line at the food truck, an hour and half later got out order taken. Got the Connecticut combo with tots. Got our food and headed home.
