One of the front desk staff recommended El Molcajete Mexican Grill, about a 5 minute easy drive away. Parking is right out front and there is plenty of it. Handicapped too, with no stairs or steps to get in or out. Nice, clean, welcoming and I LOVED the carved Mexican diningroom chairs with the hand painted agave plants. The artwork on the walls was mighty impressive too. Very pleasant. It was not crowded the night we went and it felt like a local, "regulars" crowd. Older, with lots of experience with the giant Margaritas served. I think there was at least one at every table. Husband tried the CAMARONES A LA DIABLA ($23): grilled shrimp with hot red sauce. Served with lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, rice, beans, avocado slices and tortillas. It was HUGE. The plate it was served on reminded me of the turn-table plate from a microwave oven! I tried the TACOS DE CAMARON ($23): grilled shrimp folded in three corn tortillas drenched with red sauce. Served with lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, rice, beans and avocado slices. I actually would have just ordered the regular street tacos if I had known mine was going to be drenched in red sauce. Both meals were tasty but neither of us could finish the huge portions. Staff is friendly & efficient. Food arrived very quickly too. There are two TVs on the wall, both tuned to some sporting event. I believe the sound was off as I also heard Mexican music quietly playing in the background. Nice place if this is your vibe for Mexican food (aka Tex-Mex). You won't leave hungry or unhappy, especially if you have a giant Margarita!

The young lady that took our order was most definitely not friendly, but not necessarily over the top rude. The owner was a bit brisk, however ended up being slightly more friendly when I tried very hard to be both polite and respectful. Ultimately I would not suggest that you make your decision based on the service. The food is what I am the most disappointed in. There were (3) of us, (1) ordered the fish sandwich and felt that it was fairly good. Unfortunately, (2) of us ordered burgers and that is where the "wheels come off this train". Technically, the cook of the burgers and fries, which was appreciated. The problem was the absolute lack of seasoning on both the burgers and the fries. Unfortunately, even a well cooked burger falls into the sad state of mediocrity when not seasoned. I personally find it depressing when I cheat and have a burger expecting a deliciously seasoned patty only to bite into what easily could be mistake for a calorie-laden cardboard sandwich. My final thought, who cares about the service, it should be all about the food. If Fat Smitty's would just get a good seasoning salt like @Kinders and generously season the burgers and the fries, I would consider coming back and would increase my rating. If on the other hand they stubbornly refuse to listen to the many reviews that have identified this issue, then regrettably, this will be a "one and done" experience for me personally. Perhaps I will be a good neighbor and send the owner some Kinder seasoning samples.

Steve got a chicken sandwich that was good. I got a hamburger with kimchi. It was excellent but I forgot the name of the burger. I saw a pork sandwich option on the menu that had kimchi but that wasn't the same thing... so just read the menu carefully if what I had sounds good. There are lots of options to pick from so take your time. We also split an order of French Fries which were great! For our sweet tooth we got an Amaretto Milkshake and it was excellent! We really enjoyed this one! It was non-alcoholic and we got this particular one because this was a flavor one doesn't usually associate with milkshake options. We are so glad that we got to try it! The Grub Hut is very, very popular or at least it was when we were there and there was a small line to place our order, very little room to sit and the wait time to get our food was about 25 minutes. We didn't think that was too bad and we thought it was "johnny on the spot" timing at work to tell us that at the time that the order was placed. And I suppose they have it down to an art and need to give out times like this as this restaurant is right by the ferry terminal and Kingston so I imagine a lot of people who are using the ferry need that kind of information to plan accordingly with their meals and arrival/departure times with the ferry.

And it's kind of too bad because there aren't any other fast food drive through places in this little town. I think it's them and the Cup and Muffin next door is about it. I will say though that in their favour are the staff who do their very best to give quality service. Over the years they've gotten to know our names, and they are always generally friendly. Their former manager, Joel, was really into making sure that the quality was there for his customers as best he could. He's moved on recently. I have not met Becky the new manager. However, all that said, bad food cannot be overcome even with good staff. When I go there, which is rarely for myself because it's generally for a friend of mine who wants me to catch something on my way home, I get the fish fillet on a sesame bun. I will tell him don't put so much tartar on it and put the cheese so that it's on the top of the fish never touching the bottom bun. I do that because I don't eat the bottom bun. And the fish fillet done that way it's not bad. I rarely drink anything but water, and occasionally I'll have a green tea or juice beverage. But just today, on the recommendation of a friend, I tried a McDonald's smoothie. It was the mango pineapple one and it was actually prepared perfectly. It was good. Plus it didn't hurt that it was on sale for $2. But it was actually very smooth and tasty. I did forget however that I have a slight allergy to milk products and I kind of regretted drinking it about 15 minutes after I was finished. But it is a very smooth and tasty yogurt-based fruit puree smoothie. Well I recommend the smoothie and the fish fillet, there's not much else I can recommend about this McDonalds. Basically it is what it is, it's McDonalds. I suppose we all know what is in store for us when we stop by any one of their franchises around the world.
