Mashed potatoes tasted instant, cole slaw was fresh, croissant looked and tasted like they were from a biscuit can, bangers were in a starchy sauce, good but nothing crazy. Much of the meal tasted pre-made, but overall a quick and convenient if you're about to board the ferry. Very nice people and willing to accommodate your needs. I needed a curbside pick-up where they were able to bring it to my car. They did that with kindness and no issue at all. I had called ahead of time and talked to a kind gentleman who gave me a lot of details about their menu and their service. The major problem I had was when I went to the restaurant and I called again the phone was not picked up. I called over and over and over again for almost 45 minutes. That was a bit aggravating because I was counting on being able to call in once I arrived to place the order. I finally decided to drive around and got into the little alleyway between that restaurant and the one next to it. Because they have a serve up window, I was able to yell out for some help. She came to my car with the credit card swipe machine. We discussed the favorite menu items. She was very patient as I asked a lot of questions. I think they have something good with the pricing. Every plate of food costs the same amount no matter what one orders. The fact that they have a variety of things to choose from, including a Thai curry dish, cottage pie, bangers, and more, is great. We were a bit thrown off that their meatball stroganoff was with potatoes or rice. I was surprised that there were no noodles. The food is very saucy. The plates we got came with coleslaw that had a unique twist to it. It was almost a red wine vinegar taste. It had a roll that seemed to be something like Pillsbury crescent roll. Definitely not homemade. There was ample food on each of the plates, making the cost of the food reasonable. However, I have to admit I'm not a fan of this saucy food. For me, the flavor wasn't quite right on my dishes. And that everything was so mushy and wet was not the most appealing to me either. I do appreciate having options in this small town of a variety of restaurants. So I am glad they are here for those who appreciate and want that type of food. I'm giving a five star for the service and their ability to accommodate me and lower stars for quality and taste of the food. A great addition to Kingston. It's a food counter, so there is no inside or protected seating. There's some tables on the street, suitable for warmer, dry days. Or else pick up the food to go and eat at home or on the ferry. A nice lady will take your order either inside the little store or at the window counter and assemble it. Food is served immediately. No waits. British fare (and a few non-British options). Stick to your ribs, slow-cooked comfort food. They're accommodating for food allergies and dietary restrictions, just ask! Wow! I never thought British food could taste so good! They let you taste everything. We only tasted 3 but decided on the Cottage Pie. We walked by while we were waiting for the ferry and only had about 10 minutes to kill so we weren't planning on getting anything to eat, but the "quick grab and go" menu caught our eye. Picked up three premade frozen family-sized meals for my soon-to-be-new-parents son and daughter-in-law and drove them over to the east side to deliver. Still frozen, that's for sure! Tried the Cottage Pie first, took an hour at 375 degrees (still, after thawing all day) but tell you what, the wait was worth it! The meat mixture has the just perfect balance of salty tangy sweet, full of ground beef carrots and peas... and the mash potatoes... they are heavenly! Especially after baking for an hour, lovely crusty brown edges and tops, tender cheesy and piping hot inside. This was the perfect meal (with lots of left overs!) to share with these soon-to-be parents, and I left the Thai chicken with rice, and the bangers and mash for them to cook up once baby arrives in a few days. Can't wait to hear how good those are going to be! Also, great service with a big smile ... I was a minute or two late for pick up but called ahead and they stayed around to get me my meals so I could deliver them. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Saucy sailor is a spectacular addition to downtown Kingston. The food is hot, delicious, and served up almost instantly once you get to the window. There's tons of outside seating for when it's not rainy. We like to get it to go, take it home and reheat it a few hours later, and it reheats perfectly. The ultimate comfort food, and the sauces: amazing! They are not called "saucy" for nothing. All their sauces for their different entrées are different, the curry spot on without being spicy. Oh my Lord. First off, my Mom is British. Amazingly British, been in the States for 60 years - but still speaks with a British accent and using British slang. I'm telling you this for a reason. My Mom (who I truly love) really didn't grasp some of the recipes that are tradional British cuisine. For example, Bangers and Mash, or Fish and Chips, or Shepherds Pie. Sometimes it was close, but her love of non-traditional veggies just didn't meet the mark. I will die upon the hill saying that cauliflower does not belong in shepherds pie or fish and chips. Her curry however was absolutely on point. Now on the review. My wife and I were on our way across the sound for a gig that afternoon/night and we missed the ferry by about 10 minutes, so we had time to kill. Decided to take a bit of a walk instead of sitting in the car. Came across several different places, was coming up and we hear the dulcet tones of someone asking if we'd like to try a bite because offering samples. Me being me, I had to try the curry. Amazing...but honestly, I really wanted to get my "beef on", so chose the Cottage Pie. Heavenly. Absolutely heavenly, the perfect texture, the potatoes had the proper flavor but floated on the tongue and the gravy. I would crawl over broken glass for this meal again - fortunately for myself, I don't need to. Ambience is nice, but definitely is a place to go when it's not full winter (we only saw outdoor eating, and used one of the convenient picnic tables to enjoy our meal. Long story short: I'll be coming here every chance I'm in Kingston, period. Worth it, worth the detour (we live in Bremerton) but this is my new favorite "Non-BBQ" restaurant - period. read more

Home made food, like our grandparents kind of good. They offered samples and didn't have to test them all, because the two we tested were so good we didn't want to spoil our appetite . There are only two seats inside, but couple of picnic benches outside, which for nice days or summer is not bad. We opted for takeout. The Service was great, the two people in the front were very attentive, helpful explaining how the food was made. Asking if any allergies or tastes. Very agreeable people. All meals come with salad and side of mash potatoes or rice. I can't remember the name of what I had, but it was delicious, and my husband had some kind of Thai with rice and salad, and can't remember the name either, but they were good!! I you don't want to cook, you can pick that food and have it at home. I just suggest you to transfer it in a dish right away because the plates are recyclable and if there is some kind of d of gravy or liquid it gets absorbed and even though the food is still good, some of the liquid stays in the plate and I wanted to chew it!!! read more

Afte4 seeing an ad in a local weekly I decided to try the Saucy Sailor tonight. It's a tiny but very cool little spot on the block leading down to the Kingston Ferry. Lots of personality. Just by walking in, I knew the food was going to be good. It smelled fantastic. Friendly young lady took my order and I was in and out within a few minutes - although I wouldn't have minded a longer wait - the aroma was that good. I ordered two separate meals - Shepards Pie and a sausage and beans dish to go. Each order came with a small crescent roll and a small side of coleslaw. Back at home my wife and I split the dishes and they were both truly delicious. I also bought two frozen Swedish meatball stroganoff meals to go. Each one is more than enough for two meals so we have four dinners to look forward to. We mostly cook at home but the ad caught my attention. My honest review is that the Saucy Sailor has solid, savory, delicious food and worth both the trip and the cost. Enjoy! read more
