"Typical Teriyaki" Today my boyfriends family and I went to grab a quick lunch. We got an order of gyoza, teriyaki chicken, beef, and shrimp along with some vegetable yakisoba. All of the meat was fairly standard, nothing too spectacular or bad tasting along with the gyoza as well. It was nice that the shrimp came with their own garlic dipping sauce which was pretty good. The vegetable yakisoba I got was nothing special. It had a good tasting teriyaki sauce that was border line on the sweet side. The vegetables were cut pretty nicely but I typically don't like mushrooms, baby corns or water chestnuts in my yakisoba. I was expecting more cabbage, onion, celery and carrots in my yakisoba and was a little disappointed that I didn't have that much. I went to Covington teriyaki at Lunchtime and I ask the host if they could make the General Tao's Chicken with tofu instead of chicken. He told me flatly NO. I then explained that they had made it for me last week and I thought is was good his response was "We don't have this" I turned around and went to Benjarong Thai Cuisine one block away. Not a bad place for lunch and worth your money. I ordered the large spicy chicken. It came with a salad, rice, and a lot of chicken. The chicken was grilled perfectly. The spicy sauce that they coated the chicken with was great. It was not too spicy, but it had a kick and had lots of garlic. The cashier/server was a bit rude, but it was not something that would ruin my day. Definitely a good lunch spot that is worth your money. read more

I went to Covington Teriyaki Friday evening for dinner. We decided to eat there instead of a to-go order. The setting was okay, and the food was prepared and served rather quickly. The food was good, almost as good as Kami Teriyaki which closed in Covington a few months ago. This was our first time and the overall consensus is that we would go again. I would have given a 5 star, but their window posted health report was Good and not excellent. I take those serious since they are an indication of health safety and consumer safety. Let me start off by saying I really like the food here. My issue with Covington Teriyaki is this: They have a closing time of 9:00, yet I arrived 10 minutes before closing. As I was pulling up another customer had just sat down after placing their order. As I walk in an employee ( who I later find out is the owner) is hanging their ticket in the window. I walked half way to the counter and he tells me that they are closed and that they close at 9:00. I look at my phone and tell him that it's isn't 9:00 and if they are closed maybe they should turn off the sign that says they are open and lock the door. Sorry we're closed he says. I decided a few minutes later to call and speak to the manager. I was just curious if this was a normal practice to close the restaurant down before closing time. The owner/employee who turned me away stated that they take the last order 15 minutes prior to closing. I told him that I also work in a restaurant and that for us closing time is when we take our last order and I've never ...... Then he cuts me off saying sorry there's nothing I can do, over and over again. Again, I always have enjoyed Covington Teriyaki, but I don't like how I was treated and am afraid I'll not be ordering from them again. After the good reviews, we thought we'd give this place a try. To add to the "not their fault" file, the credit card machine was not working. That in and of itself is not a big deal, but the fact that the folks working there were concentrating on that fact (the phone lines were down, so I anticipate that was affecting business since no one could place orders over the phone) as opposed to serving the folks waiting. So we waited for about 30 minutes to get our food, and when it arrived, it was less than exemplary. My wife couldn't finish the chicken fried rice since it was incredibly oversalted, and my spicy chicken teriyaki was not at all spicy. For six months straight I went to this place once or twice a week just to eat their general tso's chicken. If the Voyager Golden Record was replaced with food I would single handily cheat the system to make sure this food is in that rocket. Every person I have shown to this place is converted like it's a cult, Covington Teriyaki is my religion. There is no other place in the Covington/Kent/maple valley area that compares to this place. I came here because of the great ratings from other yelp users and I was hopeful. When I came in about 730 on a friday it was pretty busy and the staff informed me so and orders would take a bit longer like 25-30 mins. I was like ok sure. After the 30mins had gone by he came with a dish but it wasn't what I ordered. Another 15 mins went by and came by with another order not what I ordered. Finally 10 mins later he brings me my dish but not my daughters food... I get it, it was busy clearly under staffed as there were tables everywhere that needed to be bussed. Great teriyaki place. I'm not just saying this because of the cute guy behind the counter, but the food is great. I love their brown rice with chicken teriyaki. The sause is perfect sweet and I also get and extra sause to go I believe they sell it there for .25 ¢ but the guy always gives it to me for free. I also have tried fried rice and I love that they offer a brown rice. The chow mein was great too. No complains. The portions are huge and they also offer smaller if you like. read more

Unbelievable. My friends mom had the shrimp stir fry the other day. I thought her mom was gonna fall over when she saw the huge amount of food they brought her. My friend got the chicken teriyaki lunch special for $5.29. It is a one person portion. If you are quite hungry, you may want a different option. I've been coming here for many years!! This is my favorite teriyaki place. The original owners were very nice and the new owner is also very nice, friendly and outgoing. He greets all of his customers as if he were greeting a long lost friend. The food and the menu remained the same, even after the change in ownership. This is my number one spot for teriyaki. Huge portions, good pricing, and obviously, deliciousness is key. On top of all that, the staff is personable and friendly. I haven't branched put much on the menu but the beef fried rice is always great but the spicy chicken teriyaki is so on point. I usually opt for this when feeling indecisive. The side orders of vegetable tempura is about 8 huge pieces (one order feeds 2 people easy). And the side order of rib fingers is also an easy 2 person plate. Their portions are huge and when you eat in, it feels like you are eating in a nice restaurant rather than a take-out place. They have some really good fish and chips for those people you bring along with you that aren't teriyaki fans. Customer service was not good. I called in my order and requested sauce on the side. I have a toddler and a kindergartener and they don't like sauce on it. When I went to pick up my order they had put sauce on it and I told them that I asked for it on the side and the lady continued to deny that I did. I wouldn't have a problem with making a mistake and maybe this time I forgot but it was just her rude attitude like she did not care and I just needed to take the food. I was not trying to get anything for free but receive what I requested. I feel like the few times I've been there it seems like the lady at the front has a slight attitude and I want no part. My wife an I went here for the first time last weekend and we were pleased. The dining area was clean and well kept. The staff was very friendly and happy to answer our questions. My wife ordered the teriyaki combo and enjoyed it very much. I ordered the special fried rice. The portion size was very generous (more than I could finish). After reading all the great reviews I was looking forward to trying this place out. Everything was good. Quick service, clean place, food was good. The fact that they were so busy on a Wednesday evening shows people like it. We had their classic chicken teriyaki and a side order of Gyoza. Gyoza tasted as it should, teriyaki had a different taste then most I've had, but still was good. Dressing on the salad on the other hand was very different from what I expected and usually have at other places. Didn't really care for the taste of it. Nothing though of this place stood out or make me think it was better than favorite teriyaki place. read more

This teriyaki joint came highly recommended, but employee working the front counter was more interested in his phone than actually paying attention. Brought us the wrong order, which he dropped and went right back to his phone behind the register. I went up to counter to tell him this was someone else's order and then he had to resubmit my husband's correct order to the kitchen because he did it wrong the first time.
