I have dined at Sumo Sushi twice now. I have had enjoyable experiences on both visits. The sushi is very fresh and quite tasty. It's my favorite stop after a day at the lake. The staff are friendly and professional and the service has been satisfactory both times. The restaurant is clean and comfortable and the health rating is excellent. I sat on the booth side, but even with the added seat cushion, the bench was uncomfortable throughout the meal. The sushi, however, was very tasty. Service was quick, everyone at the table enjoyed their rolls, and we all agreed the pricing was very reasonable with generous portions. I ordered the caterpillar roll (eel, cucumber, and crab topped with avocado and special sauce) and the Maple Valley roll (salmon and avocado topped with tuna, crab, and tobiko). I was reluctant to try this place since it's quite deep in maple valley, but I'm so glad I did! You're immediately greeted by their staff and directed to either the seating or waitlist. The restaurant seating isn't too spacious and there is a bar near the entrance. My friend and I got the sashimi bento and sumo maki roll! The sashimi bento is completely randomized by the chef, but will always come with some form of rolls, tempura and salad. The sumo maki consists of tempura, spicy crab and is topped with seared scallops. It was sort of underwhelming in comparison to the sashimi bento, which was very good. What a pleasant surprise! The sushi was fresh and the special rolls were plentiful. I always order a California roll to compare it to my favorite sushi joints and give an accurate rating anyone can understand. I give the Cali roll an 8 out of 10, the cuts were a bit uneven and I prefer each cut to be the same size the quality was a 9 l, but the uneven cuts dropped it down to an 8. Super fresh and tasty. I ordered 2 specialty rolls that had all the ingredients I enjoy and thought they were excellent. The freshness and quality were very impressive. Their signature "Robocop Roll" (I'm not making this up) comes with a warning: "Dead or alive, you're eating this roll!" It's wrapped in metal-sheened nori that's as shiny as Robocop's armor and packed with ingredients so fresh, they make Dick Jones' corporate schemes look ancient. When you order it, the entire staff shouts "YOUR MOVE, CREEP" while dramatically pointing chopsticks at your table. The wasabi here hits harder than Robocop's door-breaching entrance moves. We took our sweet time to look through the entire menu 3 times but still needed to flag our server down to take our order. The floor was an absolute mess from last party and it felt pretty gross just sitting next to it. The food came out in a reasonable time, but by the time it came out, we were still missing our water, drinks, and utensils. We just sat there looking at our food lol. Maple Valley? Good sushi? My friend's eyes were filled with less skepticism than his voice. I was less uncertain after reading such glowing reviews and after promising to drive (and the drive was actually quite peaceful) I was able to make my case for this latest restaurant and I am glad I did! Located in a commercial building complex with plenty of parking and deceptively easy navigation Sumo Sushi is a gem! Inside you'll find deep seated benches with comfortable back support, little tables that can be rearranged to accommodate different party sizes, and a good sized sushi counter. The chalkboard art on the walls was captivating. I marveled at the blue fin tuna diagram and appreciated the info! The televisions were placed where we each had one to look at but they weren't particularly distracting. Our servers were wonderful ladies. After stating my particular food allergen I was recommended the saju roll after I chose the mega crunch roll. I should have asked for recommendations for both! The mega crunch is truly named well. It is very crunchy! It is also too big to put in my mouth so messy as well. Messier than even the most crunchiest crunch rolls I've had in the past. I couldn't taste much except the sauce and flakes. The saju roll, though, was incredible! It was perfectly balanced with savory fish and tobiko harmonized with the sweet ponzu style sauce on top. Each bite was extraordinary! The nigiri was also amazing. I particularly loved the salmon - buttery, tender, oh so good! My friend also had a pretty amazing time with red snapper, toro, and sea urchin. We ended the meal with him ordered the Japanese roll cake and me with the tempura fried ice cream. Last time my friend had Japanese roll cake was in Tokyo so this didn't quite meet his expectations, but he said it was tasty. The tempura ice cream reminded me of Mexican fried ice cream, which is not my particular cup of tea but I'm glad I tried it! Moved to Maple Valley a couple of months ago and saw this place on my way home. Finally got to try it out this last week. Went to dinner with my wife and son are and there seem to be a steady crowd trickling in starting at about 5 PM. We were seated and greeted immediately and the menu was incredible. We selected five rolls, dynamite and a hand roll. The fish was fresh and delicious and the rice was perfectly done. Inside of the restaurant was very clean and our server was very attentive. So happy to have found a really great sushi restaurant right in our community! Loved being greeted by all the staff when you come in. We ordered three rolls Superstar had cream cheese a a very light tempura batter. I'm not a real fan of cream cheese in rolls and felt it was too much but the tempura was so light I would definitely order again and just request less cream cheese or none. They will customize any roll to your liking. The saju was very flavorful with the pop of the tobico and a delicate finish of sweet sauce that was just right. I don't remember the other sumo special roll but it had tofu paper? inside instead of seaweed which was barely noticeable but a little more gummy than seaweed and less flavored. This was my first time visiting Sumo Sushi. I was delighted by everything. We arrived late afternoon on Saturday, December 31st. The restaurant was very clean and well staffed. I felt welcomed and not rushed. The server took our drink order and proceeded to deliver just minutes later. We got the mango lemonade which was refreshing. Our server asked if we had any questions and of course, I did. I wanted to know the difference between the Maki-Mino and the Temaki as several had the same name (i.e. Spicy Tuna) she explained the Temaki is the hand roll. Well, now I know the official name!! We ended up ordering the Dragon and Spiderr roll, the Caterpillar and Samurai and finally the Sumo Delight. The Dragon and Sumo Delight were definitely our favorites but all were tasty and so fresh. I'm also happy to add no tummy ache or strange feeling later...which honestly rarely happens but I feel it deserves its rightful place in a review. I will DEFINITELY be back!! read more

It didn't have that Umami crunch flavor though and the tempura was semi eh with the flavoring. There was this sauce that was okay Then another watery one that wasn't anything so I was confused what it was for as it didn't add flavor. We always get a couple of rolls: Maple Valley, Salmon Love, and Salmon Skin along with Salmon Don, Sashimi set, and Chicken Katsu. We go to no other place because it doesn't taste as nearly as authentic or fresh. One downside is that they get extremely busy during dinner so the wait can take awhile for sit down and takeout.
