This is second time we've tried this location and the second time we have been completely disappointed. The first time I ordered food that I sent back after two bites. I figured we should try again and get something different. This time we ordered wings but tenders came out. When I mentioned this, I said we were fine with the tenders but didn't want to be charged for them since they cost more than the wings, but we were charged the higher cost anyway. I ordered a steak sandwich that came out on the soggiest bread I've ever had with meat that had the strangest texture; and the fries were a peculiar combination of burnt but completely saturated in oil. I couldn't eat it and just asked the server to scrap it. When they gave us less than half the serving of cheese sauce for the pretzel app, we asked for more, for which they charged us. We had spent the day in Boston and I really liked the music. I thought it added to our meal. Something new and cool in downtown biddo?!?! This restaurant is super delicious and super reasonable. I tend to forget that when you leave the Greater Portland area, you don't have to pay 53728574 million dollars and your firstborn to get delicious food. I like what Biddeford is turning into. For us spoiled Mainers, Biddeford and Lewiston are basically equivalent to Compton and Newark. These are cities that sane people just don't go to. But things are changing. With the redevelopment of the old mills, Biddeford is receiving an influx of trendy new restaurants, breweries and condos. And Cowbell is one of the best additions. If I lived in Biddeford, this would be my spot. In fact, Cowbell is what BRGR Bar in Portland wants to be (but isn't). The atmosphere is comfortable and polished. The craft beer list is extensive. And the burger menu is fun and creative. There's a dozen specialty 1/2 pound burgers for about $11 that come with fries or tasty sweet potato taters. The Ghost in the Machine consisted of caramelized onions, peppers and ghost pepper cheese. I upgraded to wagyu beef for $2 (all burgers are also available with grass fed beef, bison, turkey or chicken). The burger was cooked perfectly at medium rare, was dripping juices and was absolutely delicious. The ghost pepper cheese provided a smooth heat without being overpowering. I'm dying to return and sample the other burgers. As an appetizer, the fried pickles were the best I've ever had. Other reviews mention service issues, but Cyrena was fantastic. Very pleasant and attentive, we were in and out in 45 minutes. Cowbell has live music and events several nights a week and strong happy hour specials. It's well worth the trek from Portland, and possibly is better for burgers than anywhere in the Old Port. read more

The sad thing here is the review was really based upon the interaction between management and the consumer. The food is actually pretty good. As I referred many people to this restaurant. And I am not from this area but visit often. Today I had an issue. That could've been very easily handled but was met with confrontation and a unprofessional attitude. What manager comes to your table and touches your drinks to prove that your table is the right size for your party. And then tells you we are not in the 80's? I have been here many times. As a matter of fact in august the female manger cam to every table and passed out a $5 gift certificate to every table in Appreciation for the customer having to deal with a longer than normal wait. It's unfortunate that this experience happened. Especially after 5 years of visiting this restaurant ! So many places are closed on Mondays I guess it's a new hip trend and hey, some of us have only Mondays off and want to go out to eat someplace cool so it is really awesome that Cowbell is open. I had the bbq bacon burger cooked medium. I usually like my meat more rare but with a new place you never know how it will come out. It was perfect for me juicy and a little pink in the center. Sweet potato tots were a good change up from your regular French fry. The bbq sauce was off the chain, and there wasn't too much on the burger to make it so you couldn't taste the meat. I really like that the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle are on the side for you to "build it" how you like it. I will definitely not have a problem giving my $ again to Cowbell on a Monday in the future. I thought for the taste, the prices are very reasonable and I am excited to try out their other menu items. I've been meaning to update this review. The good news is that they've got the kitchen working well. Beef and salmon burgers are cooked right, taste good, and are bigger than average. As the mills are revitalized, the view on the deck isn't nearly as bleak as it used to be. The bad news is that on our last visit, we got menus but there was nothing listed to drink and nothing on the table to tell us what they had. Either drink menus don't exist or we didn't look thirsty. Prices are reasonable but everything is an upcharge (oh, you wanted the beef in your burger to be grass fed?) and it can add up quickly. The inside of Cowbell looks like more of a bar than a restaurant and a musician was setting up as we were leaving. I'm thinking it gets loud at night. The restaurant looks clean and the servers are friendly, but watch out for the floor. There are steps on the dark floor that are hard to see after you've been on the deck in the bright sun. I've seen the Yelp ad for this place for a few weeks and wanted to give it a shot. We came in around 7:30 on a Saturday evening and were immediately seated away from the live music - The Barmen. The ambiance is good as was the music. I'm afraid the good stopped there. We ordered up the fried pickles as an app based on other reviews and curiosity of the "boom boom" sauce. Much to our dismay, we dove in and discovered the pickles were bread and butter pickles and the sauce seemed to be a Thai sweet chili sauce mixture. The pairing would have been good if they were dill pickles to take some of the snap out of the sauce. My wife ordered a bison burger medium rare and I ordered the decadence (bacon wrapped grilled cheese) both with sweet potato tots. The bison burger was cooked well done and was the thinnest patty I've ever seen. McDonalds gives you more meat for a fraction of the cost of Cowbell. There were no condiments included or offered (thinking mayo here). The decadence was burnt. My photo doesn't do the burn justice, but the underside of my sandwich was completely black. I tried to eat it, but I couldn't get over tasting the bottom of the grill. The sweet potato tots were very good, but they were either cold or piping hot with no middle ground. To add insult to injury, once our food was dropped, we weren't checked on to see how the food was, as I was prepared to let them know the quality just wasn't there. As I waited for the check, I ventured back to the bathroom which passes by the kitchen. I'm thankful I saw it AFTER I had eaten, because it was so disgusting, the bathroom was somehow cleaner and it wasn't even as clean as a filthy gas station bathroom. Cowbell is ok. I've had some good burgers here...and some flops. It has not been consistent with quality. Best visit was "the crazy ex" burger with sweet potato tots. Its was a very busy weekend and the food came out hot, burger cooked just right and I loved the flavor combos. Would they this one again. On another visit we had basic burgers and shared a house salad. The salad was typical greens with a few other veggies nothing outstanding; as for the burgers; one bison and one grass-fed with basic toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion). The buns were soggy and the lettuce was wet. Mehn and our fries and tots were cold. Not great. Very slow service even though they were pretty quiet. The fried pickles weren't great but the house sauce they served it with (boom boom sauce, I believe) was good. We will visit again esp if we dont feel like driving to Portland or beyond (we live in town) but it's not our first choice for burgers in the area. VERY hit or miss out of 5 recent visits. read more

We finally tried Cowbell recently and it was decent enough. Now I haven't always been a burger person, but when I was pregnant with my now two year old daughter ALL I wanted to do was eat burgers. Much to my husband's delight I continued to love burgers even after she was born. I've even evolved to order them medium well, a far cry from my early days of "WELL DONE." I guess you could say I'm evolving as a person. Anyways, Cowbell's burgers are decent enough, but my burger was undercooked. It was medium rare, and I ordered it medium well. On top of that it was really just only "okay." Their friend pickles were good though. I probably won't be back because the Burger Joint down the road is a lot cheaper, and even though they aren't super gourmet or anything, once you factor in price they are definitely better.
