I noticed when I walked in, when I looked through the kitchen window where the food is served, no one was wearing gloves. I looked around to see if anyone was and not a single person was. One girl wiped her nose with her hand and then continued to work with food. Then going to the bathroom there is a open doorway to look into the kitchen. When I looked in, again, no one was wearing gloves and one man in particular was on his phone, holding it over a sandwich, and then continued to touch the sandwich. I felt it was overpriced and if I had ordered breakfast this maybe closer to 4 stars. But being Texan we have the best cfs and this maybe great for NM. Now the burgers were off the chain. In an area with little options, this cafe is the BEST! Friendly welcome with a party of eight in what would seem like an overwhelming time. Our waitress was amazing. Our visit to the Cowboy cafe was just ok. The food wasn't bad, but also wasn't great. The coffee was the same. It's in a convenient location, and the service was fast, but we also had to share our table with another family because they were short on seating. No big deal except everyone is a little wary with Covid right now, so we were trying to sort of scoot to the end of our table to give the other family (and ourselves) safe social distance and a little privacy. I don't know if I would go again, maybe during the off season. read more

Service was great, the workers are very nice people, but there is absolutely zero seasoning on the burger and eggs me and my partner ordered, respectively. It's just extremely bland with very little to no taste. I also ordered the fried pickles and it tasted like a pickle wrapped in straight flour. Also no seasoning. The pancakes are as big as the plates, no joke, as big as the plates.. yet, they are so lite and fluffy that I could not stop eating them.! Dang this place is good. Small simple and clean. Great food, fun staff and solid breakfast. If you doubt me, try the Chicken Biscuit thing.

There are two ways to approach breakfast, and both ways are perfectly valid. One way involves making the omelets are fluffy and mile-high, pancakes with nearly a cake-like crumb, and premium bean coffee. The other involves the culinary equivalent of swinging a baseball bat at your taste buds. Cowboy Cafe is this kind of a breakfast restaurant. I ordered a Spanish omelette with biscuits (side of sausage gravy) and grits. The Spanish omelette comes covered in red chili/tomato sauce and has green chili's, ham, and cheese (among many other things). The omelette was fantastic, a hearty yet tidy package of eggs and vegetables. I haven't had a bad green chili anything yet here in New Mexico. It filled me up without knocking me out, and I appreciate that. The grits could've used something else, maybe corn or cheese or both. Nonetheless the texture and temperature were right on. As for the biscuit, it also was fantastic; a thick-crumbed delight, made with butter and held together perfectly regardless of how much gravy gets thrown on top of it. Speaking of which, that gravy had spicy, flavorful sausage on top of it; that also was excellent. Cowboy Cafe is definitely worth rounding up before they close at 2 (on Thursdays anyway). read more

This is a late post, Wow I had the best food at this place. I was visiting this town for work and people kept saying I must try the food there. I completely agree. If you are in town head over to the restaurant and come hungry because you will have left overs. Besides that the food was delicious, everyone was super friendly and kind. This review breaks my heart. Some of the best food in town but not only are they not practicing safety measures, they actually have a jar to pay their fines if they get caught. I was already seated before I realized nobody was wearing masks...not the host, waitress or kitchen staff. I really should have got up and walked out but am visiting a senior citizen that really wanted to eat there. You have to wonder, if they are ignoring such a simple health issue as masks, what other health standards do they ignore.Oh, here is the real kicker....the hostess wears a gun on her hip....I am sure she has a license for it but it made me laugh, she will wear a gun to protect herself but will not wear a mask to protect her clientele. We stopped in here after a 6 hour road trip. Walked in and were immediately greeted and seated with our drink orders taken. I had the green chile burger and my wife had steak fingers. Both were great and they really loaded me up with green chiles. Quality of the food was great and service was friendly and quick. They also have dessert pie and cake slices available but I was full from the burger. I saw that had a carrot cake that looked awesome and will be trying next time. I went to this place this morning, on a suggestion from people who said the food was amazing. I however, found the service amazing but the food was subpar. It lacked any spices, the eggs were good, but the chicken fried steak was not fried enough. it was light colored and floury flavored, the grits were absolutely freaking horrible. They were crunchy in a soup that kind of tasted like dirty dishwater. The gravy tasted good. It just lacked seasoning all in all I paid almost $30 for breakfast for one person and it was not worth it in my opinion. Some people say this place is great, some people say it's not. This place was amazing!! Unfortunately I only took on photo of our food because it was gone before I could even think. The gravy was out of this world, you had the option of gravy with sausage or no sausage we opted for no sausage. We got the biscuits and the haystack and the chicken biscuit and taters. We got there around 9 on a Friday and it wasn't too busy but when we left there was a wait so I'd say try to get there earlier if you can. It's pretty small but obviously popular as we struggled to find a seat but they said we could sit at that bar which was fine. We were served quickly with water and were asked if we wanted coffee. Quirky lil local joint that is funky and weird and quaint, which is fitting for Roswell! I was driving from Ft Stockton to ABQ and decided to adventure through Roswell. I was starving and looking for a bfast place and this one was highly rated on Yelp with funny commentary as to the quirky character of the place. I figured why not, though I had a little trepidation from some of the other reviews stating this place was a local stomping ground and they were territorial to "outsiders". To be fair, the place from the outside looks sketchy as hell, but if you can get over that, you are in for a treat! I have to concur that this is definitely where the locals go, but it was not a creepy, squinty-eyed spittoon ready glare that I was greeted with. The place was packed when I walked in just after 11am on a Sat. morn and the gal that greeted me was super nice. I waited seated next to a lady, who turned out to be a regular, and she helped us grab some seats at the counter, which I am glad that's where I ended up sitting because man, you are in the middle of all the action! All the waitresses work together, so you really never have to wait for service unless you aren't willing to open your mouth. Everyone was just sweet as pie and I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup! There are dollar bills (and various other foreign currencies) adorning the ceiling and walls and it is kind of "tradition" that started to benefit a local orphanage. People sign the dollar bills or put some sort of message on them and up the go! As for the food, it was pretty decent, but definitely of the small town diner variety, which for this place is just perfect! I had a bacon and cheese omelet with the biscuits and gravy and neither disappointed! I also recommend venturing to the restroom, if for nothing more than to see the murals...an experience in and of itself! I am sad to report, however, I did not see an "actual" cowboy during my visit. Mayhaps next time my dream of getting verbally assaulted by a cowboy reciting the Pace Picante commercial verbatim will come true. But, on this visit anyway, I was content to have made some new Roswellian acquaintences and having one of the more enjoyable "local yokle" breakfast experiences in recent memory! read more

Super clean restaurant. Very pleasant and friendly staff. The food is delicious and homemade. I had the chicken , bacon, Swiss sandwich on sour dough with homemade onion rings. It was fantastic and a large portion. I had to take half my sandwich home. My husband enjoyed the meatloaf and mash potatoes, green beans and delicious cornbread. The desserts look amazing.
