When I need to relax I go to Half Moon Bay to boogie board. I've been coming to Cowboy Surf Shop for more than a year. Lucy, the manager, has been very helpful to me. Twice when my cousins, nieces, and nephew from Stockton came with me to Half Moon Bay to boogie board Lucy has been very accommodating to them. The price to rent a wetsuit is $10 a day. That's a price you can't beat. It's a small shop yet if you plan to rent wetsuits or boogie boards this store has more than enough to suit your needs. They are carrying the whole Ripcurl wetsuit line, including the F-bomb and E-bomb 3/4 wetsuits. In both the conventional entry system and the chest entry system. They also carry thier caps, gloves and booties as well. The boards not really a true fiberglass, it has the bic pen logo on it, it sorta looks and feels like the same material. No joke. Still it rides ok, probably think of it as a board that is between a soft top foam board and a true fiberglass one.... Rental for one of these is $10. Wetsuits can be rented for $10 as well. read more

Love this place! I went here last weekend with my friends to surf the Jetty for a bit! We stopped by Cowboy's to rent wetsuits ($10 for a day) and surfboards ($20 a day). We were really impressed with the prices and condition of the equipment. The girl in the front, Lucy, was very knowledgeable and explained how to get to the beach and where to park! Like every local surf shop, it can be a little pricy to buy things but the quality is amazing! I ended up buying racks for my car (i'm coming back for sure) ($50) and 2 sweatshirts ($50 each), but Lucy was so kind to knock off a few dollars for us! The hoodies are super comfy & the racks hug tightly without damaging your roof. All in all, def go to this shop if you need anything to kickstart your surf and expect to be greeted with friendly customer service! read more

Very friendly help from the sales staff member, a few months ago. (Mr. Hawaiian guy, I forgot your name, but thank you!) I was looking for some replacement FCS screws for an old Australian board, and the staff member and I fiddled with some screws, and got some longer Future Fin screws that fit. Nevermind the fact that I went to the larger surfshop near Linda Mar, and the younger sales rep there did not know that fin screws, at least the older ones, had Allen or hex-head screws. The guy was looking at me like I was crazy. After being abroad for 12 years, it was good to see the small shop (Cowboy) still in business. read more

I really liked the service in this surf shop. The owner was very nice and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. I bought a new wetsuit here and a hood for my girlfriend. They had plenty of selection to try on as well. The owner also taught us how to repair a wetsuit which was useful. Nice place. read more

Stopped in today just to check out the place. I bought a used board here years ago and have thought about stopping by often but it's just never worked until today. Victor was there today and he was really friendly and engaging. Made us feel welcome and at home. To me, THIS is what a surf shop should be! Made a trip up from Santa Cruz for the Pumpkin Festival. Saw the shop and stopped in to see what's up. I'm used to O'Neill's and others in SC so wanted to compare. Overall the shop is really small. The prices seem to be about what one would expect. T-shirts are $20.00 or so. Hoodies are $50.00. There seemed to be adequate supply for rentals. The lady working there (I assume Lucy) said hi to me but didn't engage me. I looked around and left. I was the only one in the shop and there didn't seem to be any immediate business coming their way. I saw only one other surf shop on the main drag (but there may be more elsewhere) so this is probably where most people go for rentals and some purchases. read more

Great little shop with everything I needed for my day. A little pricey in comparison to other shops I've rented from, $32 for a suit and board, but you get em all day and the lady was super nice. Gave us some free wax and made the whole process, well, not one. Definitely worth a stop in when you're in HMB. read more

I thought this place was great. I went in to rent a wet suit. And I let the lady know it was my first time to go surfing with some friends. She was very professional and helped me out with getting my sized suit. I thought I would get some grief for being a rookie but it was awesome. I would go there again for surf accessories. read more

Worst Surf shop I've been to. I'd rather drop 400 on a board and wetsuit then toss up 80 for the foam board and excuse for a wetsuit the lady gave us. Walked in, she points to only two boards in the shop which are two blue foamie longboards. 20 dollars per board for the day, and then when we go to try on wetsuits she just hand us ones she thinks will fit without a try on. She must've thought we were preparing for a flood by the length of the legs. Nevertheless they flooded .1 seconds after getting into the water. Staff was very in unknowledgeable about the local surf, told us a spot with half foot waves to rip on our unwaxed foamies; id have better luck trying to stand up on a lubed up slip and slide going 40 MPH. Furthermore the credit card machine denied two of our cards which very well worked earlier that day. After we finally got the payment figured out we spent less than an hour in the surf with our less than adequate equipment and promptly returned the gear to never come back again. Would not go back unless you're a new surfer who doesn't want to get up once or looking for basic gear to purchase. Anything more than that do yourself a favor and drop a couple bands on nicer equipment. Best of luck! read more

This was our first time renting wetsuits and boogie boards, and they made the whole process easy. We walked in and told her we wanted to hit the waves. Within minutes, we had wetsuits and boards. We changed into the wetsuits there rather than at the beach, and picked up the 'plastic bag' trick for getting into the suits from some locals who were gearing up there. She gave us a couple of options for beaches nearby, and were on our way. Afterwards, we dropped everything off, she found our tag by my name, and it was done. No muss, no fuss, just a couple of minutes. Friendly, efficient, and a great day at the beach. read more

Yesterday my daughters 14 and 16 took me out body surfing and we rented wet suits and boards from this shop. The gentleman that helped us was great. He got us the right size suit before we left the shop. It was a great experience. I would highly recommend this shop to everyone. read more
