He replaced the inner tube on my talaria electric dirt bike (similar to Surron) same day w no appointment on a Sunday, and for a reasonable price! Also cool friendly dude thank you Matt I appreciate your service!

Just an amazing bicycle shop. The owner is very cool and Rad. He helps with all your needs and is flexible. He built me a Anlun Laser Series 1000 BMX bike and it came out absolutely amazing. There are not a lot of BMX stores around like this one. Old school selection too on bikes and parts. I donated some frames and BMX parts and he had built it up in the matter of days and I got to see it after. We need more owners and people around like Gearhead bicycles. Thank you

Simply the best for new bikes and even better for older bikes. Went out there way to find original parts and if we couldn't find them, great upgrades. So if your into build loud colors or nostalgic bmx, I'm telling you, stop by gearhead bicycle

Once again, Matt with his expertise assisted me with my daughter's RAD electric bike by adding juice brakes instead of the cable!!!

I've been a long fan of another cycling shop in Burlingame and haven't shopped here very often…read more When we purchased my son's last bike, they were just opening the Linda Mar location and didn't have an inventory to explore. They've settled in nicely and now have a nice inventory. Apparently, they've been a staple in Santa Cruz for some time. Anyway...about my experience yesterday. I stopped in on my way to my old favorite store, just to see if they had what I needed. I have already checked "In-Stock" inventory at the other store and knew they had the Park Tools Chain Tool that I needed. I was surprised that they not only had the model the other store had, they had two other models. One of higher quality and one of lesser (a starter "lite" version of a chain tool). I still went with the one I was originally looking at, but it was nice to see the options. I didn't expect to have that much of a choice. When I stopped in, there was only one employee working, but it didn't feel that way. He was helping a gentleman at the maintenance counter, a lady choosing a bike for her son and me all at the same time...and doing it well. I was even amazed that when I asked if they had chain tension clip (a small hooking clip that holds the chain where you need it while working with unconnected links). He simply said, "We usually make them out of old spokes...give me a minute and I'll make you one." It took two, but it was the perfect length and he made it for me for free. What a deal!!! While I don't expect them to have everything I will ever need...I usually have very specific needs for cycling gear, components and bikes, I will always check them first going forward!!!

Took my bike in for tune up and suspension service. It took more than a month to get my bike back…read more There was no proactive communication from the shop during this time. I called repeatedly and the staff needed urging to think to call the Santa Cruz shop that handles the suspension service to understand the delay When I finally got the bike back, the front wheel pointed to the right when the handlebars were in a position to have the bike go straight ahead, and the front tire was deflated from a loose valve. I took it back to have this corrected, and when I brought the bike home the steering was stiff and the bike was unstable and felt unsafe to ride. It turned out the staff had identified a problem with the headset that they had not been able to fix and did not make me aware of this. Multiple fails at repairing the bike, poor communication, Would definitely not recommend having your bike serviced here. Hundreds of dollars spent, and total frustration and no bike for a month.

Ugh, I wish I liked this bike store, they are in fact the closest Specialized store nearest to me…read more I first came here when I was shopping for a bike, as I was new to cycling, I wasn't looking to buy the most expensive bike in the store, but that didn't stop them from trying! I ended up purchasing a Specialized bike, but not from this store. I thought I would still come here and buy accessories and have my bike serviced here, but the employees here don't really care about their customers or customer service. On one occasion I came in to buy shoes, but they didn't carry my size. They told me that I would need to pay for the shoes and if they didn't fit, to bad so sad! How would I know if they would fit, if I can't try them on?!?!? Just take your business elsewhere. There are several stores around they Peninsula that sell and service Specialized bikes!

Walked into Cognition Cyclery expecting a standard tune-up and left feeling like I didn't belong. I…read morewas told--loudly--that they "only work on Specialized bikes," and anything else they can't do because of the parts. Had they taken the time to talk to me about switching parts, I would've easily been persuaded. I'm also a regular customer at the store. The fact that I was just treated like that saddens me. They simply don't care. That's fine if it's your business model, but the delivery was unnecessarily dismissive and came off as elitist. Not everyone rides a top-tier brand, and that shouldn't mean being treated like you're wasting their time. I was prepared to spend a few hundred dollars on a tune up and more for repairing my crumbling wheel, but clearly that wasn't the issue--the brand of my bike was. There are plenty of shops that value customers regardless of what they ride. I'll be taking my business to one of them. Note: I found a better bike shop that will support all bikes and treat you well well providing their service. You can avoid the snobbery of Cognition cycle. Go to Woodside Bike Shop. They're very friendly, very efficient, reasonably priced and they do great work.
