As we waited for the food I noticed that the owner was walking around and greeting the customers and finding out how the food was. I believe that every owner should follow this man's footsteps because he was very attentive to all and I feel that he turned our experience around for the better. Once we finished, he asked us about the food and what brought us there. Conversation with him was great and easy. We mentioned to him that my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and he surprised us with a dessert and coffee. This dessert was incredible and his sweet gesture made the experience so much better. I hope to return one day and give them another chance. I would say try this restaurant and make sure you make reservations because the restaurant is always full.

My brother had the lobster pasta which I tried and was out of this world. The shitake mushrooms in this dish really add a depth of flavor you don't normally find in a lobster pasta. I haven't stopped thinking about those oysters and will absolutely be back. Everything in the Hamptons is expensive, but this place is where you want to spend your money.

There was very little traffic and I made it to the restaurant easily. Once there I was greeted by a friendly young girl at the door. The place was pretty packed but I was able to get a table by the water with a view of the bay and marina. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The food arrived hot and nicely arranged. The main entree I selected was the "Long Island Monkfish" for 34$. The price was more than expected for the quantity of food and they should have included some bread - very much needed with the spicy vinaigrette. The monkfish was absolutely delicious! The leeks and gnocchi went perfectly with the fish. I read online that the Branzino is really good here. I really wanted to try the Branzino but they ran out of it. Before I left, I went to the restroom. They have two stalls so there was a bit of wait. The main area is open with sinks, soap and a Dyson dryer - no paper towels. The stalls are clean with ample space. While waiting, I chatted with the other people who had been to the Rose wine soirée earlier. They said it was great - unlimited rose wine plus appetizers at the beginning, including lobster rolls. Tickets were 60$ all inclusive. They had a DJ and small outdoor dance floor and it was almost all women. That's not a surprise - rose wine events tend to attract more women than men. I'm not sure why, maybe because rose wine is pink or the invite appeals more to a female audience.

Ok, so in all honesty I have not eaten at this establishment. The basis for this review is on their customer service when making a reservation for a very large party. I am planning a bachelorette party and I called back in June (three months before the party) to inquire about making a reservation for twenty people. The person I spoke to took down my name and said the manager would call me back. The manager did not call back. However, I did call back a few days later. The person I spoke to at that time proceeded to make the reservation for me. They confirmed the date, the number of people and the time. They took my name, e-mail address and cell phone number as well. About a month later, I called to confirm, because I was making sure all of the plans were set in stone. I also didn't quite trust the reservation had been made because the young woman I spoke to was definitely not a manager and based upon my first phone call with them, I wasn't sure she had the authority to make the reservation. I spoke to a gentleman this time and he confirmed the reservation for me again. I called again this afternoon because the party is two weeks away and I wanted to reconfirm all of my arrangements for the weekend (out of sheer desire for everything to go perfectly for the bride-to-be). I called and said I wanted to confirm a reservation, they asked for the information and I gave it to them. Imagine my surprise when the next words out of the young woman's mouth were "Oh we're closed that night for a wedding, we cannot honor your reservation." I was flabbergasted. I asked why they didn't think to reach out to me. There was a pause and then she responded "Someone tried to call but it said the number was out of service". My number has never been out of service, first of all. In the case that they did call, they should have tried again. Even if the phone number had been written down incorrectly, they had my e-mail address as well. They could have e-mailed me. What I suspect happened is they got an offer to host a bigger party or an offer to have the place rented out AFTER I had made my reservation. I know that they were happy to confirm the reservation a MONTH AFTER I MADE IT. Whatever happened between July and today, I don't know but it is very fishy and frankly it's poor form. I don't know if I believe that they ever tried to contact me but if they did they didn't try very hard. Can you imagine what would have happened if I hadn't called to reconfirm a second time and shown up with an entire bachelorette party? The night would have been ruined. What I do know is that I won't ever be dining at this establishment because they were completely blaze about my reservation, didn't try to contact me when they could no longer honor the reservation (they say they tried to call- but they could have e-mailed as well since I know they had that information too). I will also be letting my friends and family (who recommended this restaurant to me) know how poorly I was treated. None of us will be back. It's a shame that they 1) didn't bother to try to contact me via e-mail when my phone number supposedly didn't work and 2) that they took another party even though they made my reservation and then confirmed it a month later. All in all this is a very questionable and disturbing business practice. read more

Disappointing Dining Behind a Pretty Façade at Cowfish, Hampton Bays Cowfish may dazzle with its charming waterfront view and ambient coastal décor, but beyond the surface, the dining experience falls painfully short -- especially for the premium price point. We came in with high hopes, lured by the picturesque setting and refined atmosphere. Unfortunately, nearly every dish we ordered was an exercise in style over substance. The lobster-stuffed mushrooms ($18) arrived as four tiny mushroom caps, aggressively filled with breadcrumb-heavy stuffing that barely hinted at lobster -- more filler than flavor. This signature appetizers was a complete letdown. Despite the elaborate menu description, not a single bite truly delivered the taste of lobster. Any flavor that might have existed was drowned in an overabundance of sauces that masked rather than enhanced the seafood. We hoped to at least enjoy the half-dozen oysters, but they arrived disappointingly undersized, barely the diameter of a quarter. And the clam chowder -- more of a cold cup poured into a wide, shallow bowl -- barely had enough volume to coat the bottom. Served chilled (unintentionally, we presume), it lacked both depth and seasoning. Even our cocktails, which should've been a highlight in such a vibrant setting, tasted watered down -- one likely the victim of sitting too long over ice, and the other simply lacking punch. In the end, we paid $140 for what amounted to small portions of over-conceptualized, underwhelming dishes, dressed up in fancy language but lacking execution. It's clear Cowfish is banking on the view and vibe to justify their prices, not the food itself. A lovely setting can only carry an experience so far. Sadly, behind the beauty, Cowfish left us with nothing but disappointment and a lighter wallet. read more

The scenery is gorgeous and that's why I gave two stars. I wish you could bring your own food and enjoy the scenery because take out food would definitely better than what they serve. The restaurant is very much bar oriented and it would be better to go there for drinks and a couple of simple appetizers. After an hour wait on a Thursday night my husband and I were seated at a bar area (even though we requested an outside table) with our backs to the nice scenery because we were seated in a booth. We were so hungry by then that we did not have the heart to object. The food was nothing special and our waitress ready to fall asleep on us. We ordered some sushi as an appetizer and it came without soy sauce and ginger. When we pointed that out to the sleepy waitress she just looked at us as if she didn't know what we were talking about. Spectacular. Food and ambiance was on point. Tables indoors distanced perfectly. The food was a 12 out of 10 this restaurant deserves a Michelin Star. Ordered the Buffalo shrimp. Roasted garlic hummus. And roasted Brussel sprouts as starters for the table all exceeded expectations. Perfectly seasoned nicely balanced flavors super fresh. For Mains we tried the Specials of the Prime Rib, the Salmon of the day. And the diver scallops. When i say amazing i mean it the Scallops were HUGE and so tender. The salmon was fresh and flaky a nice belly portion not tail end inferior quality filet. And the Prime rib medium rare was so tender it could be cut with a spoon. For a finisher we ordered the Sorbet trio perfect for sharing. So delicious and creamy. The wine list and drink offerings were also definitely on par with some of the best. We recently got married at Cowfish, and it was absolutely amazing! The venue hosted our outdoor ceremony, and everything from start to finish was handled with incredible care. Marinna and the entire staff were phenomenal -- their attention to detail during the setup, procession, cocktail hour, and dinner was truly five-star. My wife and I exchanged nearly 200 messages and had two in-person meetings with Marinna and the team, and through it all, they were patient, compassionate, and clearly dedicated to their work. We had an intimate wedding of about 70 guests, with a live guitarist and a photo booth, and everything went off without a hitch. Our guests couldn't stop raving about the beautiful location, the delicious food, and the friendly, capable staff. To all the Cowfish team -- thank you for making our wedding day so special. SO Good! I have celiac disease and I rarely if ever eat out because I hate being "that person" always nit picking the menu options. But they are so helpful and don't make me feel bad for making changes to the order so I can feel safe about what I'm eating. Celiac or not, they have lots of options and every one is delicious! My husband and I love eating here. Even on nights I don't get back from work in time to cook dinner, we'll pick up dinner and it's always amazing. Definitely a must if you're looking for quality food in the area. SO glad I live right down the road :D -must try their Buffalo Shrimp appetizer! One of the best things on the menu. YUM! read more

I had dinner at Cowfish last night and I'd classify this place as an overpriced Applebee's. Service was amateurish, it was loud, tables are too small and seats are uncomfortable (think one step up from folding chairs). My biggest critique is about the "Feature Steak." I'm placing this steak as one of the bottom three steaks I've ever had in my life. It was supposed to be 16oz but realistically was about 12oz. It was one of the toughest, grizzly cuts of meat I've ever had. If I were the chef I'd be embarrassed to send this out especially at the Ruth Chris price tag of $58. Ordered takeout from Cowfish in Hampton Bays after hearing a lot of great things. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The food arrived in flimsy cardboard containers, portions were on the smaller side, and the overall quality was underwhelming. On top of that, a key item was missing from the order, which made the experience even more disappointing. Everything felt a bit careless and not worth the price point. Good view and nice dining experience! Brought my toddler boy and my dad to this place in this new normal era. Cowfish tries everything to make the whole dining process easier and more sanitary. Reservation, large space between tables for social distancing, digital menu and all the staffs wear masks. It was a great pleasure to dine in there with nice view and warm service. This is a great spot. Came here with my kids and wife for dinner. They don't take reservations, so beware. But we still were able to get a table after about only 5 or 6 minutes. Rustic nautical vibe here and my wife loved the interior. The clam chowder was outrageous, would definitely recommend as well as the center cut filet. My wife's sister's husband got a burger he loved and his wife got some type of a risotto dish. Everyone's food was great and the drinks were amazing as well. I really loved this place and look forward to coming back. Great place to play the bar and watch sports. They offer valet parking and it is located on shinecock bay with a beautiful view! Food was amazing- lobster rigatoni, mussels and fries, and an ice cream cookie for dessert! Waitstaff was helpful, prompt, and engaging. Met the owner David- he and his staff took wonderful care of us, and spent the time to chat up my uncle for his birthday! Can't wait to return to Sag Harbor and Beacon!

The restaurant is one flight up with indoor and outdoor seating, even our inside table offered fantastic water views. Shared an order of burrata (a special of the day) to start, thoroughly enjoyed the creamy globe of cheese resting on tricolor sauce with toast points. My bouillabaisse, comprised of a large lobster tail, clams, mussels, and white fish, was well spiced with a saffron-based broth and served up with butter-slathered toast to mop it all up. Yummy! Partner's lobster rigatoni was made with plenty of fresh lobster meat and a well flavored creamy sauce. He said it was filling and delicious. Excellent experience overall, would definitely return when in the area.

The place is nice and spacious with an extensive outdoor seating area that extends to the water. The gracious and friendly staff greeted and led us to a great spot outside, right at the edge of the patio under the big tent. This gave us a great view of Mill Creek and the Peconic Bay We started off with some zucchini chips, and were given some olive tapenade with breadsticks and flatbread. These were very good. The Halibut and Surf n Turf specials we had were fantastic and perfectly prepared. The halibut was nice and chunky, and the filet+lobster tail were done just right. Every little bit of it was devoured, and left us no room for dessert. This wasn't too tragic since dinner was fantastic. This was a little far for us to drive for dinner, but we were heading to the Custer Institute afterwards despite the predicted cloudy skies and this made up for that.
