Not very transparent about the fees they charge for their services. No prices are posted . The actual doctor spent minutes looking at our puppy. The technician does most of the work. I like that they have such a broad range of availability. When we asked how much neutering our puppy would cost the technician was very tight lipped. We wanted a ballpark estimate, she threw out a number but promised an estimate would be sent. It was ! It's really expensive! Low end being almost $450 and high end. $ 1500! read more

This place is very well maintained and clean. The vets and staff are friendly. Our vet helped our dog get his yearly shots. I did have to muzzle my dog but they tried to get him calm. If I could leave zero stars I would! My son's cat was dying at 16 years old! We took him in to see if there was anything we could do. They sent us home with an antibiotic and said it was an abscess from a bite but yet did Xray first and then found the bite wound, to their surprise! After the Xray? Really? They also did bloodwork. 650.00 later! He declined overnight! I mentioned he was going in circles and she mentioned it was a brain tumor when I called back that same evening (yesterday). When we went to have him put to sleep this morning she wanted me to pay for a rabies test and said we couldn't have our cat back that they would take his brain matter to test it. My son was very upset, we both were crying because our family member was dying! Now this woman wanted us to leave our pet there? Hell no! She told me she wasn't asking she was telling! I said get my fn cat now!!!! She finally did and we were reimbursed for the euthanasia. (The lady at the counter was the sweetest!!!) We left and had him put down at another vet. Later this afternoon the police came to my door and said she called the health department on me. They told me she now was saying it was distemper. So it went from an abscess, to a brain tumor, then rabies and now distemper! We not only went through the grief of our pet's death but now the police being called because I took him out of there! Keep in mind there hasn't been a case of rabies since the 1980s in Lake County the police told me. So she made up distemper diagnosis. Distemper doesn't affect humans so why the urgency to destroy our last moments with our Orangey the cat! Pitiful behavior! I hope she is fired for her actions! I waited to write this review to ensure I could speak calmly, though our experience at Coyne was deeply upsetting. After our senior dog, Briggs, suffered what appeared to be a stroke or seizure, we rushed him to Coyne. We have been loyal clients since their time at Alsip Nursery, so we trusted them with his final moments. After learning he had Vestibular disease and making the agonizing decision to euthanize, I realized I had forgotten my wallet. Given our decade-long history with the clinic--including a previous incident where they lost the remains of a former pet--I asked the office manager if I could return immediately after the procedure to pay. I was met with a complete lack of compassion. The manager demanded payment upfront before they would proceed with the euthanasia. When I tried to discuss this with her--without profanity or shouting, though understandably upset--she told me, "I don't have to deal with this," and stormed out. Later, when I spoke to a regional contact at the Portage location, I was told, "Well, this is a business," and was told that "many people" abandon their pets' remains to avoid paying. To be categorized this way while my wife, my two children, and I were hysterically saying goodbye to a family member was insulting and cruel. While the veterinarian eventually called to apologize for the manager's behavior, the manager herself refused to do so. When I picked up Briggs' remains, she was condescending and dismissive. A veterinary clinic is more than just a "business"; it is a place of care. To be treated like a suspicious debtor during the most painful moment of our lives is unacceptable. I cannot thank Dr. Rachel Vandermyde and her staff who were working on December 2, 2025, enough. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my beloved chihuahua, Paco, down. This Vet is awful- they don't take appointments. You have to wait forever (average 2 hours) every time I have taken my dogs here. Grooming is a joke- couldn't even make an appointment because I couldn't get an upfront quote for how much it would be for a bath and nail trim. It seems no one here knows what is going on...you will never see the same Vet. I have just brought my dogs here for shots and was told at her last physical exam that when she needs a refill of her meds prescribed by her prior veterinary to just call over and they can refill it. Today I called over and was told she would need to come back in for another physical if her prescription with the prior Veterinarian is over a year old. Had I have known this I would have asked for a refill when we were there at her last physical/vaccinations. There is absolutely no way I'm going to sit in that lobby again for 2 hours and pay another exam bill to get my 8 year old dogs's urinary incontinence meds refilled. It's so sad that there aren't more options available to this community because if there was I cannot see this place being as busy as it is. The service here makes me want to drive the hour each way to take her back to her old veterinarian. Update- based on the business managers response. On the phone when I told the employee I'm not bringing my dogs back here the response was- that's fine. BUT within an hour of posting this review I had a voicemail to call them back to discuss this review. BUT I am still waiting for a response to my email asking for both of my dogs records. Maybe next time when someone says I am not bringing my dogs back here the employee should say let me get a manager rather than- that's fine. I absolutely am not going to call this vet back for them to gaslight me or just refill the meds to take this review down. I can't comprehend how anyone would recommend this care to anyone. If they do they're foolish. This location really dropped the ball and crown point isn't much better. My husband found a 1 1/2 month old kitten by a garbage can while working (he's a garbage man). The kitten was crying for help and only had a little pus in his eyes. I immediately came, took the kitten from him and brought the kitten to this location on my way home. After an examination they said he had low blood pressure but looked fine and just needed a little TLC. While we were there they dewormed him just incase (without having results from a stool sample yet) and they injected him with antibiotics to kill an upper respiratory infection just incase and put antibiotics on his eyes. Before coming to coyne (st John) the kitten was able to walk and hold its head up. He was tired but coherent. He even took down a whole can of food in the car before we arrived. By the time I made it to my house after visiting coyne the kitten could no longer hold its head up or move. Can someone tell me why they didn't immediately put an iv in this poor kitten to stabilize before all this treatment was done especially the treatment for worms?? Or warm him up? This kind of incompetence can put the kitten's body in shock and lower the blood pressure more. Especially on a kitten with an already compromised immune system. Seriously, what do you think this treatment did to the poor baby who by the way, was already weakened from the heat and lack of water/ food for god knows how long?! When I got home (12minute drive from coyne St. John) I wasn't at my house long before rushing to coyne in crown point which was 5 minutes away due to the kitten's new behavior. There they put the iv and it was too late. His blood pressure was even lower and even though it wasn't getting higher to their liking it did get a little higher. 25 to 42 if I remember correctly. So after 10-15 minutes of being on the iv they strongly suggested putting the kitten down bc it was very rare he would survive this. Or i was told it could cost 1000s of it needing iv care and they were not equipped to handle that since no staff stays over night. I don't understand why he couldn't have been on the iv for possibly an hour or two just to be sure. They're so quick to put down. Not only did I pay close to 300 dollars at st John for the first visit, I then had to pay for the injection to put this poor baby down which was another 130. And he got sent home with me in a body bag. It was that or get him cremated for another couple hundred. I will admit after showing my frustration to the tech on this matter the Dr did then come into the room and explain how she waved 500 dollars for the iv and medication that tried to save his life (which I appreciated). However, I feel their concern was who's paying for the pet. They're worried about how much time a kitten would be on a iv and the cost. When a human is dehydrated and needs an iv do they give us one for 12 minutes and they say oh sorry it's not looking good, we need to take you off?! Make it make sense. This kitten was outside for who knows how long!!! People, listen I strongly suggest taking your pet else where. It's not worth it. My husband and tried our best to do the right thing. I can't help but feel if I took this baby somewhere else he might still be alive today. Coyne was careless, they didn't give him a fighting chance. St. John definitely in my opinion made a poor judgement on treatment. Was the cat sick...of course. But did the line of action hurt or help the kitten? I definitely think hurt. Stabilizing him should have been the very first line of defense. But no..he was stray and maybe in their mind that would have cost money. Then after a iv should they should have SLOWLY treated him for all other concerns such as worms. Or maybe a later day after he was rehydrated and nourished. All this medication was too much for his compromised little body. Find your self a vet who shows more compassion. Find your self a vet who has critical thinking skills. Find your self a vet who doesn't pump you with a bunch of crap and sends you on your way. Find a private vet that's not afraid to break the rules to do what's right. Find your self one of them YouTubers that finds animals on the side of the road left for dead and somehow nourishes them back to life after delicate care...you will be better off. Don't disregard the bad reviews for a few good ones like I did. It might cost you the life of your pet. It's too late for this kitten but not for yours. Coyne's negligence cost us $1,000+ and almost our dogs life. Take your animals literally ANYWHERE else. On a Wednesday morning our dog became violently sick. Vomiting 20+ times a day and refusing to eat. Thursday he became sicker, vomiting, not eating, extremely lethargic. We decided to take him to Coyne and they told us to wait it out, it was probably just a bug. They gave him some anti-nausea and appetite stimulant. Friday night comes around and he is showing zero signs of improvement. He is more lethargic and now has violent diarrhea. We deicide we'll take him in first thing Saturday morning. We go in and Dr. Jasik orders an X-ray immediately. At this point he is concerned about him having a blockage.. X-ray comes back and Jasik says it's PERFECT. Nothing to worry about. He then orders a full blood test/ panel and a pancreatitis test. Again, everything comes back "perfect". He gives our dog fluids, anti-nausea/ anti-diarrhea, more food stimulant and a round of antibiotics. Saturday cost us $1,000. I question what we should do since everything came back normal and clearly something is wrong. He tells us we just need to wait it out.. its probably a food borne illness or could be parasitic. But we just need to wait it out.. bring a stool sample in if he can produce one suitable. Monday I am able to collect a tiny stool sample, so I drop that off. At this point his health is still declining. He is more and more lethargic, vomiting liver bile, and STILL hasn't ate since Wednesday. Tuesday the parasitic screening comes back negative for anything. Wednesday comes around and our dog cannot continue to wait this out any longer. It has been 7 days since he's eaten, he is vomiting liver bile regularly, he does nothing but sleep, he is shaking and won't produce a bowel movement. I bring him back to Coyne, Dr. Cuddihy takes an X-ray and immediately schedules an emergency surgery because he has a blockage! I'm shocked and ask how was this missed in the first X-ray... my question is dismissed. He immediately got the surgery and I decided I would confront them about the negligence once our dog is recovered, as his health is obviously the most pressing matter. After all is said and done, I come back in and ask to speak to a manger. I inform her of the situation and she says she'll bring in Cuddihy for me to speak with. We paid for a full blood test/panel, pancreatic test, parasite screening, antibiotics, anti-nausea/ diarrhea AFTER an X-ray was taken that clearly showed a blockage in our dogs stomach. Because of the negligence on behalf of Dr Jasik, when we brought him in that Saturday, they should have taken that X-ray and scheduled a surgery right then and there. Instead, our dog was forced to suffer, we had to pay for unnecessary test/ meds and had we listened to Jasik and "waited it out" our dog would have died. I showed the initial X-ray's to two separate vet techs from different practices AND an instructor from Purdue University and even they were able to spot the blockage in the initial X-ray. Coyne completely failed to take any responsibility for their negligence and nearly cost us our dogs life. They had a million excuses for why it was missed. Claimed it could've been food, except he hadn't eaten in 4 DAYS and was continuously vomiting. Claimed it wasn't shown in the aerial view, they never even took an aerial X-ray the second time right before the surgery. Too bad we were the ones who had to financially foot that mistake and Coyne has zero remorse for us or our dog. I've always gone to Coyne, as has my family. I will never step foot in that practice again, I suggest you don't either. read more

I started going here because I liked that they offered a Puppy Package and it is right by my house. However, I truly wish I never did. They have the rudest front staff ever. There can be up to 5 people standing at the reception at one time and no one even says hi or acknowledges you. Then they look at you like you're stupid for not coming up to them when they're all looking down, at the computers, or on a phone. THAT however isn't the worst of it. The first time I took my puppy, they completely botched cutting her nails. Both hind paws were bleeding from multiple nails. I just took her again and she was once again bleeding from a nail. Their groomers are either unqualified or absolutely careless. Either way, they will not be touching my dog again and really hope you think twice about taking your animals there. read more

I was rushed in and out, my dog was never examined despite the $98 visit charge on my bill. I had a bad feeling then but trusted what I THOUGHT was a qualified veterinarian who knew better than me. Boy was I wrong!! The fact that it is the medical director of that location (Dr. Rozman) who treated my dog is very scary to me. If this is the treatment and care received by someone who represents the rest of the staff there I would BEWARE!!!!!!!! She had no valid explanation for the lack of care that was provided other then her saying she made wrong assumptions and was told I denied testing. ALL I did was told the tech I wanted to speak to the doctor first because of my pup's history. That is complete BS!! This will be a mixed review. I visited Coyne over the past two months with sick cats. The care was very good. I recently went in during the week to refill a med and asked if a technician could cut a cats nails on Sunday. They said they could. I walked in on a Sunday with 3 cats, one who was previously seen there and 2 that had not. I was told I would need to pay for a Doctor's evaluation since this was their first time there. I was never told that when I enquired earlier in the week. I also was not told that evaluation would be 100 dollars per cat since they charge a premium on weekends. I could not find pricing on their website. The issue I have is with their transparency, policies and pricing. To be fair, they did refund some of the vet fees but to charge 100 plus 23 for a trim per cat for services that took a combined 6 minutes is criminal, especially with the lack of transparency. read more

Dr Ryan is such a good doctor and I can honestly say we love him. He is the vet you want caring for your pets. Both doctors and the staff are awesome. My dogs are my children and I truly trust this place. My oldest dobie is scared believe it or not and the girls there are the best at calming him down which says a lot. Brought my cat in because she kept vomiting, they took her in the back to do blood work and X-rays. Nothing was done in front of me. Came back and showed me a blockage. Said it could be a tumor or something she ate and would need to do exploratory surgery to find out! I asked if it was a tumor wouldn't bloodwork show that and they gave me an answer that made no sense. Said I could leave her overnight and they could give her some fluids to try to flush & redo everything the next day for $2k! Surgery would be between $5-$7k. Only good for vaccinations and prescriptions for known issues. There is a constant turnover of inexperienced doctors that are trained by Dr. Coyne to make the maximum profit. They sell me a prescription cat food not having seen the cat for over a year. Yet when I went to get the food from Chewy they denied the prescription. Could not diagnose my dogs spleen cancer. The vet I took him to for a "second opinion" caught it immediately. Now they have failed another one of my dogs, currently at Purdue for a diagnosis. Do not take your animals to this place. The should maybe think about doing boarding only and even those services are mediocre. This is no place that will provide the exceptional treatment your pet deserves. read more

We came to Coyne with our cat Skittles for an emergency visit. Sadly, we had to make the hardest choice any pet owner has to make. Everyone there was so caring and empathetic from the staff who greeted us, the tech who started with us to Dr.Ryan who saw us and delivered the news about her diagnosis. Never have we had a vet be so empathetic about our situation. He made sure to give us as much information to make the right choice for her and all time as we needed before making the hard choice to say our goodbyes. You can tell the staff here truly love animals. A few weeks later we received a hand written and signed sympathy card from the staff and it brought tears to our eyes knowing they care even from that one visit. My wife took our puppy in today to get him one if his one of his vaccines and to have his teeth looked at by the vet. After being in the waiting in the room for over 30 minutes she went out to talk to the receptionist. About the same time the pizza was delivered. She asked the receptionist for the vaccination only since that can be done by a tech rather than continue to wait for the vet. Was told okay and then proceeded to wait another 45 minutes. She went looking for a tech. The tech informed my wife that said she was not aware anyone was in that waiting room and got the vaccine for our puppy. Waited over 90 minutes for a simple vaccine. The lobby was empty upon arrival. Hope the pizza was good and on time because that is how customers are supposed to be treated. read more

Waking up Saturday morning to a super sick pup had me so worried. I knew I couldn't wait until Monday for some answers. I decided to give it 24 hours to see if the symptoms got better. Sunday morning I was fully prepared to go drop thousands at the local emergency vet. A friend who used to work there referred me over. So I decided to take the drive from Highland and hope for the best. From the girl opening the door for all the pups, to me checking out after my visit I was treated like someone who was a "regular" there. We were in and out in less than an hour. This included doing a new patient check in...X-rays...lab work...and asking the vet a million questions! This also included the massive clean up when my pup decided to get sick while paying for the visit! LESS THAN AN HOUR!? For a walk-in only spot? Unheard of! Everyone was amazing. So friendly. So helpful. I'm a neurotic dog mom. The minute he wasn't feeling good the anxiety and panic set in. Coyne and all the staff had me feeling a million times better walking out the door! I then had a question later on in the day. I called back and was told someone will return my call. We've all heard that and gotten the call days later.. The vet who cared for my dog....Dr. Porto... called back within the afternoon!!! Eased my mind AGAIN!! I am so thankful for this place. While an upset tummy on a dog may be no big deal, to me it was the end of the world! The fact I was able to walk in as a new patient, have extremely prompt service AND it didn't cost me an arm and a leg on a weekend visit just made me a "regular"! Brought my son's kitten there last June after she was rescued for a wellness check and vaccinations. a week later I brought her back because she was having loose stools. The head vet there did 2 tests. Came back and said this kitten has parvovirus and will get very I'll quickly. . They advised hospitalization for IV therapy. They quoted me $3000.00. my son who works as a maintenance tech couldn't afford that. we decided to take her home and give subderal saline injections to prevent dehydration. . she didn't seem sick at all. took her to St. John vet and she's a healthy happy kitten. reason for testing positive for parvovirus was that same clinic vaccinated her for parvovirus the week before. First time at Coyne. It was recommended by our dog trainer. I called ahead to ask questions about spaying our dog. They told me it was a flat fee of $250 as long as your dog is up to date on vaccinations. I had my vet send over proof of vaccinations. I called to confirm prior to the surgery date to make sure they had the records-they did was the response. The place is nice and friendly BUT....Never once did they tell me about the vaccinations THEY require! So my Quote of $250 turned out to be a far cry from the Actual cost. Also the surgery itself wasn't the $250, it was $265. After the influenza shot, Bordetella-I Never Board my dogs, and the Labrexx-fecal shot my bill was.. $436.72! Far cry from $250....oh the best part.....when they brought out my dog I asked..no cone? Oh, that's Extra! read more

I would NOT recommend Coyne. In April I took my dog there because she had a cyst on her neck that had ruptured and was swollen. The only reason I went to Coyne was because our vet wasn't in the office and it was the weekend. They put a drain in her neck and told me to have her come back in 3 days to have it removed, I told them I would continue care with our vet. I took her to our vet on the 3rd day and had the drain removed. In August my vet finally had to do surgery on the neck wound because it wouldn't heal. He told me after surgery that it wouldn't of healed because when Coyne put in the drain it damaged the tissue and created a hole. I called Coyne informed them of this and requested my money back. I was told that since I didn't bring her back to them and took her to another vet they wouldn't do anything. I've spent over $2000 at my vet to correct Coyne's negligence. read more

We had a certificate for a free spay or neuter from the Humane Society. They gave us a list of vets honoring it. They highlighted Coynes at Alsip since it was close to us. The certificate was valid through 11/14/2018. We trapped a feral cat and took it there on 11/5/2018. These money hungry folks wouldnt honor the certificate, and charged us for the service. They arent interested in controlling the feral cat population. They aren't interexted in animal welfare. They're only interested in the almighty dollar. If you want to throw a lot of those their way, by all means, they're happy to take them. But do they care about animals? What do you think? Go elsewhere! read more

He had such a great place to take your pets in University Park and Orland Park but now the clinics are all about money and I consider them the Walmart of vet service! I am appalled that Dr Coyne is ok with this as his legacy. I suggest any medication they want your pet to take you get it online or at a pharmacy! I was just charged $36.50 for a cream I could buy online for $8.82. I get charging a little extra but 4 times the cost when I just paid $873 for the surgery that got him infected. I don't know where to begin but. Please if ur getting anything seriously done to your pet don't go here. My dog Ruby was a 6 year old healthy German shepherd. But now she is gone! 2 weeks ago we brought her in for a swollen mouth, we didn't know if it was tumor or cancer or what so they took a sample. They put her on meds and it cam back that it was some sort of bactiria, so there was an Absessed somewhere in her mouth! She finished her meds and the bump came back in 2 days. We called the vet and they recommmwnd to do a dental and a scan of her mouth, so they can find the Absessed. So we took her in for routine blood work before surgery. The next day is when we lost her! Not very long into her surgery they called and said that her heart rate had dropped and they stopped the procedure, they tried to give her meds and cpr but it was to late! And this wasn't even a major surgery. The only answer that we got is that her heart didn't react well to the anesthesia! This is something that isn't very common! So what happend to my dog! She isn't here because of a dental surgery! She has never had any issues with any medications her entire life! Also when I asked for an autopsy they wanted to charge me! THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE! SOMETHING WENT WRONG AND THEY KILLED MY DOG! After doing some digging I also know now of at least 3 more bad experiences that others have had! That have ended in almost death or death! I am a professional groomer and in the dog industry so don't worry I will make it known to all of my clients what happend and not to bring there pets to you! read more

Don't go to this clinic! They let us sit in a waiting room for over an hour because the moron girl who works there forgot we were back there waiting. This happened on 03/13/17 at 7:30pm. The place is also filthy and smells. read more

INFORM YOUR CLIENTS PRIOR TO ANYTHING. I lost my job because of the pandemic. I used to have a wellness package which unfortunately defaulted. My cat just got sick 2 days ago. I come in and tell them and they say I have to pay the balance I had of $213. Done. They take him in. Offer the X-RAY unfortunately I'm at my limit with budget and they offer him a shot for the time being to see if he gets better. I go to pay and they tell me I need to pay THE FULL YEAR for the wellness package to reinstate so therefore what I was going to pay I thought would be my reinstatement fee and shot WASN'T it. I paid an extra $120. Had to cancel the fecal testing because I couldn't afford another $41 on top of that. They referred me to a low income vet. I specifically told them before I left I wish they would have told me BEFORE I handed the majority of my money to them which I could've used on my cat for any emergency treatment he may have needed. INFORM YOUR PATIENTS BETTER ABOUT THE WELLNESS PACKAGES AND ABOUT THE COSTS THAT ARE NOT COVERED. DO NOT MISLEAD THEM. Literally the worst experience I've ever had at a Vet. If they knew I was struggling and WAITED to tell me about another vet until AFTER I paid over $300 for that one visit and also stated it was "illegal" to try to start a new plan under my partner's name for the time being (EVEN THOUGH PRIOR TO MY VISIT I WAS TOLD ON THE PHONE TO DO SO) WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME when I PAID $213 that I still COULD NOT USE THE WELLNESS PLAN. WHY DID YOU WAIT TO TELL ME? WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME ABOUT ANOTHER VET I LITERALLY ASKED ABOUT LOW INCOME INFORMATION BEFOREHAND? THE FIRST TIME YOU HAD TO ASK ABOUT PUTTING THE PLAN UNDER SOMEONE ELSE. AND THE SECOND TIME YOU JUST GLAD OUT SAID IT WAS ILLEGAL. EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD ON THE PHONE TO DO SO. HOPE they feel GREAT now that I can't afford an X-ray for baby to see if he has an obstruction and I will never be going back to them. The thing is, I used to make pretty decent money and there was a time I could afford everything out of pocket without even thinking about it. You lost a good client who was willing to pay whatever was needed once she could. Money definitely came first to them before the consideration for the care and HEALTH of my pet. Poor Customer Service Wife walked in to pick up medications for dog. Girl at register is looking off in distance, says, "Can I help you?" as my wife is just through the door. Doesn't wait until she is at the counter. My wife states who she is, our dog's name, and the medication. The girl asks, "What's the dog's name?" as she is again staring outside. My wife repeats what she said previously. The girl coughs into her hand, and extends the same hand for payment. Another girl got the meds and put them on the counter. My wife uses her debit card for payment. The first girl, staring off into space, asks, "Do you want to enter your PIN?" Well, how else would you use a debit card? My wife takes the medication off the counter and puts them in her purse. The girl looks at the one that got the medication and asks, "Did you get the medication?" Really? The girl never looked at my wife, acted as if she wanted to be elsewhere, had no clue what was going on, and generally had terrible customer service. The other girl was fine. There are multiple animal hospitals in the area; avoid this one. read more

We've been coming to Coyne for 3 years, when they were still in the Alain store. The staff is nice and friendly, and seem to take good care of the pets. The last 3 times I've brought my dogs here I've had to wait over ONE HOUR to get back into a room and have my dogs checked out. The non appointment based set up is not convenient when my entire afternoon is wasted in a waiting room to get my dogs shots up to date. It's completely ridiculous. I have human oncology patients of my own who have never waited this long to see a dr.!! Bad time management. read more

After waiting an hour and a half and STILL not having answers I had to leave. Extremely disappointed with the level of customer service, from the staff behind the desk, to the manager, and especially the disrespectful vet we delt with!
