I took my 17 y/o cat there for the first time today and am very pleased! There is a separate cat waiting area, and separate cat exam rooms. Dr Dunn was kind, gentle, and not rushed when examining my cat. The staff is knowledgable and answered all my questions. They listened to me. My cat normally is fearful at a vet visit but today, she was calm and felt safe enough to explore the room. The cat area is quiet and calming. I highly recommend them for cats! read more

Wow!! This place is an absolute gem! So I have experience in the veterinary medicine field as an assistant and receptionist at different practices in the city, but it was worth it for me to make the drive out to this clinic for the quality of care! My dog had a dental here and I am the most impressed by the care, thoroughness and value that he and I received. Care- this clinic is "fear free" and it shows. On returning to this clinic when he realized where we were my dog's little tail was wagging a mile a minute! He practically leapt into the tech/csr's arms and couldn't wait to go back into the building. He has always been a good patient at the vets- but this is the first vet he was eager to return to. I am under no doubts Dr. Asbury who was the first vet at the practice to see Harvey has become one of his top 5 favorite people!! It feels like he is more at ease after visiting this vet than if he just chilled at home. As someone in the industry this is exceptional 14/10 and is an indicator of an excellent support staff and practice culture. Throughness- during the the dental Dr. Cooper extracted a mind numbing 12 teeth that needed to come out including many multirooted teeth- and most significantly a lower canine. That is a lot of teeth. For people not in the field this is like the vet running marathon and then ending with a perfect routine on the uneven bars. It's a feat. A feat that Dr. Cooper didn't shy away from but accomplished impeccably for the good my dog. I am impressed and grateful. Her skill added to Harvey's quality of life and likely his longevity. Finally value- when it was time to settle up the billI was shocked. For a dental as in-depth and complicated as the one Harvey needed I was prepared to pay 4x the price I was charged!! I am astonished that St. John Animal clinic managed to charge such an affordable price (under $600) for such a quality job. They are truely partners with the pet owning public making exceptional healthcare for animals affordable!! Also for context all this occurred during an historically stressful day nestled in the Covid19 pandemic. So in summary: you couldn't do better for yourself or your pets than to bring them to St. John Animal Clinic. read more

Dr. Michael's, her assistant, and CJ were so wonderful today with my cat Manny. They were kind, gentle, and compassionate. Dr. Explained everything very well and helped to come up with a plan to get manny healthy. The front desk staff was amazing. They were so kind over the phone. The techs that I spoke to both times I called were very very kind to me and listened to what was happening and worked to get manny's blood work results from a different vets office (due to having to visit there on a Sunday) All of my pets over 25 years have been to st john and I couldn't recommend more. Couldn't be more pleased with the care my dog received on 1/4/19 from Dr. Preston and all the staff at the St. John Animal Clinic. She was in the clinic for a spay surgery. We dropped her off in the morning and picked her up late early evening. The vet tech explained all post op instructions and medications. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Our dog also has a problem with itching and allergies. Dr. Preston is helping us work through that. We used to go the Banfield in Petsmart. After a while we lost confidence in the the only one vet there has there. read more

NEVER GO HERE I have been going here for years. I spent a lot of money there on our pets over the years. A conservative guess is likely $5,000 to $10,000 for services, tests, medications, surgeries and routine annual visits. I have in fact heard bad things about them from time to time over the years as well as received substandard service occasionally but we continued to go there only because we liked Dr. Buggy. Recently my 15 year old Shih Tzu broke her leg in 2 places and was immediately scooped up by me and rushed to the clinic. As I was driving there I called them to alert them she had broken her leg, was suffering and in significant pain and that I was on my way there. The girl on the phone told me "OK I'll alert the staff, when you get here call and we will come and get her". I told her I'm here now in your parking lot right in front of the door. So as you can see I wasted no time in getting my dog to vet care for treatment because I got there before we even finished the phone call. Anyway she said someone would be out to get her shortly. 5 minutes later nobody came out so I masked up and took her inside myself. My poor dog was struggling, yelping and in quite obvious pain and distress. The counter employees greeted me by name as I had been there so many times they knew who I was. The girl at the counter told me my dog was all checked in followed by, "we will have to charge you extra as an emergency fee since it's almost 5:00 p.m." To which I replied I didn't care what it costs I just wanted her taken care of. Then the girl told me to "have a seat, it will be at least 30 minutes before anyone can see your dog there are others ahead of you". So there you are. I'm thinking wait a minute. I called they said bring her in immediately, which I was already doing at the time. I told them she was in pain on the phone and now at the counter as well and she was visibly and vocally demonstrating great pain and distress. Then there's the "you have to pay more statement immediately followed by go sit down for 30 minutes while your dog suffers and struggles in your lap. Well you folks know me I JUST BLEW UP. Gave them a few choice words to chew on but the crux of the outburst was that waiting 30 minutes was out of the question and totally unacceptable. Told them I would just have to go to Coyne and get immediate service. This is exactly what I did. I arrived at Coyne and they took her in immediately and within a few minutes I was looking at her x-rays. Coyne explained everything, put a cast on her, gave me some pain management medications and within about an hour we were home. I avoided a 30 minute sit around while my dog suffered ordeal by going to Coyne and forgetting Saint John Animal Clinic. Best move I ever made. My history with Saint John Animal Clinic reaches very far back. All the way back to Dr. Austin's days owning and operating the clinic more than 20 years ago. I have complained to them about their service at least 3 times in recent years including about this terrible visit. This clinic has changed and not for the better. They seem focused on stacking patients to maximize their profits over patient/customer care. To show you how loyal to them I tried to be there's this. A few years ago my son took his sick dog into Saint John Animal Clinic. The Vet told him the dog had a cold and would soon recover. 2 days later the dog was dead in the living room. Terrible misdiagnosis but I kept going there with my dogs simply because in spite of the drop in service I was just used to going there and I thought well everyone has a bad day now and then. That was wrong thinking on my part. Since this incident I did some digging and did not like what I found. I am by far not the first one to have issues whit this clinic and from what I have been told I am very sure I won't be the last. I wouldn't let this clinic issue my dogs a Kleenex. read more

Last week we had our first appointment here with my dog who has GI issues. Dr. Asbury, DVM examined her, carefully researched her prior medical history and offered expert insight on how we could resolve my dog's gastrointestinal problems via: 1) acid reducers, 2) antibiotic and combination anti-parasitic treatment and 3) proper hydrolized protein dog food. I recognized immediately that this DVM was pretty-darned-brilliant. I am so glad I found her, and am grateful to the intuitive, kind and smart admin (Liz) who helped me to make an urgent appt. Fine, fine doctors and equally fine staff. While recently away, we experienced a near fatal crisis with our 8 month old dog. The doctors and staff at St John Animal Clinic walked me through, via phone and text, more than 24 hours of monitoring until I was able to get to a nearby vet. Been taking our family dog here forever and used to love coming. However recent changes have made me question whether we will stay. The front desk staff seemed confused and unaware of anything. The older woman was incredibly condescending when she asked if I brought a urine sample even though I was 1)never told I needed it and 2) not there for a urine issue. It was very obvious that the front desk and the vet tech were on Two different pages. Both told me two different things. The tech was honestly the worst. She was incredibly rude and even had the audacity to say "maybe next time don't let your dog pee everywhere" after my dog peed on the poster at the front desk. I wish I had gotten her name. The whole experience was bad and I really don't want to take my dog back to this place. read more

My dog needs prescription food and medicine which I request at the clinic. I never get a phone call back letting me know that it's there ready to be picked up, I always have to call to see if it's there. I called and they said it's ready so I sent my husband and he came back with the wrong food. This is the second time the food was ordered wrong. It's very frustrating when it's on her chart what she takes and when I order it I order Royal Canin Urate food and repeat it to the staff . You are over a hour away so time and money is a issue when you expect your services to be reliable and professional. When I order her medicine I have to be transferred and I always get a voicemail and never get a reply back. I love Dr. Dunn with the care she get's but the other staff I can't say the same. Might be time to look going elsewhere being she is on the prescription food and medicine for the rest of her life. read more

I will agree with Mark S. that the docs and techs are great, however the front desk staff leave MUCH to be desired. After being the ONLY person in the waiting room last week with an appointment, and then being asked to wait at least an hour an a half to be seen as there was an emergency and several walk in appointments, I asked to be seen by a different doc after a 45 minute wait past my appointment. I was told no...I had to wait my turn. At that point I asked to see a different doc and was told I was no, they were all seeing other patients. I explained they were seeing squeezed in appointments, as they had all made that common knowledge as they waited, and I legit had an appointment. I was told no. My doc was taking care of an emergency. I then asked for my pet's records and told them I would take my pet and my business elsewhere. I was then told I was cold hearted by the staff for not understanding an emergency. I understood...and totally felt horrible for the emergency. But what I did not understand, was the other people who said they were squeezed in....then taken back while I had a scheduled appointment and was told I would have to wait. To be told 45 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, that you would need to wait at least another 45 minutes....because an emergency came in 20 minutes after your scheduled appointment time was not working for me, given that the squeezed in appointments were still being seen. The icing on the cake for me was the unsolicited letter from the practice manager stating verbatim...."I am sorry we could not meet your expectations, but agree it would be better for all involved for you to find a different clinic which can". Good vets are hard to find. The vets are great here. Getting to them....is incredibly difficult. And this has not been the first time there have been issues with the front desk staff. read more

(over 20 years) They listen to your concerns and they care for your pet the way you would want them to. Dr. Preston is very good with pets and people she takes time to make sure all your questions are answered. Dr. Cooper, Dr. Buggie and all the other doctor's are very professional and caring. Liz and all the front desk staff really care about how your pet is doing and will do whatever they can to help answer any questions. Have been taking our dogs here for 14 years but will no longer be coming back! Extremely dissatisfied with the animal care! Took in our 1yr old puppy for vaccines and the records they had for his shots were all mixed up, had records of a vaccine he never got and were double charged at our last visit. Money is one thing, that can be corrected; our dogs health is not something I take lightly. read more
