I hadn't ate here in awhile so I decided to go eat brunch with my friends last weekend. I ordered the tuna melt on sourdough with onion rings and I added grilled onions and mushrooms and a side of clam chowder. It was all pretty tasty! I got coffee to drink. The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the outside. Plenty of seating and frequented by locals. The service was great and the portions as expected. The food was good. I want to knockoff a star for the coffee, but that might not be fair. Admittedly I am a coffee snob so it may not bother others. I drink my coffee black. As is the case with most places they just don't know how to make a good cup of coffee. The water to coffee ratio was off or it's a poor choice of coffee. It needs more coffee to water to smooth out the taste and alleviate the bitterness. If you guys read this try 3/4 cup of coarse ground coffee to 64 ounces of water. read more

My friend and I rode our motorcycles 80 miles one-way to explore this restaurant and it's chicken fried steak for Saturday morning breakfast. The restaurant is a classic. It is clean, has great service, even from the server working on there second day. After being seated, we quickly received menus and were questioned about drinks. The coffee was hot and tasty. We indicated our orders and before you could blink plates arrived with our orders. The food was hot and nicely plated. The chicken fried steak was think, hot, not greasy, and covered with the right amount of white gravy. The red potatoes can with peppers and onion. The were a perfect compliment to the premier entry. We went camping to Dove Springs for the Holiday weekend and forgot to bring some things with us so we went back to California City for some shopping. We got hungry and so I did a quick Yelp search and found this spot with amazing ratings...too good to be true, I thought. So we tried it. Walking in to the establishment, the place was clean and organized. The inside looks like and old school American cafe with wood carved "country style" items for sale at the entrance. The owner (I presume) was nice and friendly and asked if I needed a menu, I assume it's because she gets many repeat customers that know what they want, but I needed a menu since it was my first time there. Everything on the menu sounded great; biscuits and gravy, three meat giant breakfast burritos, pancakes, waffles, and a variety of lunch menu items. We decided on the pancakes breakfast and three meat burrito. They were delicious! Large portions and the food was very flavorful! We said we would come back for sure the next time we were in town. Well, the next day on our way home we were, "back in town", so we stopped again! Ha! We both got chorizo burritos with a side of very crispy and just right amount of salt fries! Again, excellent food! Let me walk it back to the cleanliness one more time. While waiting for my order, I asked to use the restroom. The restroom too was clean and organized. Plenty of toilet paper, toilet seat covers, soap, and sanitizer. The floors were clean and the baseboards were not full of dust or buildup like some places, yes, I look at those things. I'm updating my review from a 1 star from 2015 to a 5 star today. Food and service was awful back then but today we wanted to go for breakfast so we tried them out. The food was absolutely delicious and hot. The ladies that are cooking do a wonderful job. I'd highly recommend coming for breakfast lunch or dinner. Great variety of items on the menu. The waitress was on her own and they were super busy but she had a young man helping out with coffee and beverages. I cannot believe how the 2 of them do it all out front but they do. Was driving through just looking for a cup of coffee and went to Coyote Cafe just expecting a coffee shop but was pleasantly surprised that it was a diner. The restaurant was very clean with lots of lovely art giving an incredible atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice and quick with serving our coffee and food. The price of the food was very reasonable, total before tip was $35.56 for 2 meals with coffee. Will be a regular stop on our travels read more

Solid little mom and pop breakfast place located along the main drag of the city. We have eaten there a few times and the service and food is always really good, portions are great and prices are fair for what you get. The biscuits and gravy is good, patty sausage is really good as well as the bacon. Hash browns are crispy and cooked throughout, will be back when in the area.
