We heard that the place is very good so we came to give it a try. The food is good but not that great to justify the price. While there are choices of sides Ie hash browns and biscuits, there isn't much vegetable nor fruit choices or at least without paying significantly extra. While they have senior discount for those 55+ (a small $1.50 discount), it's on the small prints at the end of a menu so you have to look hard to see it. Though what I dislike is what they don't tell you it's not $1.50 off your total bill but off an "entree" order. What is considered an "entree" is not clearly marked on the menu so it's necessary to ask server is whether the main dish you ordered qualifies as an "entree." Also if you come with your significant other(less than 55 years old) or child/grandchild and ordering an "entree" and a second dish they don't consider an entree for the party to share, make sure you order the entree for your self and the other dish for the other otherwise the restaurant might not let you have $1.50 off your bill even if your younger family member(s) intends to share it with you and you are the one paying the bill. read more

Was a regular for about a year. Good, fresh, home cooking style meals, but we had a few bad experiences. Always mid-week. The first was a plate of nachos with REALLY stale chips. The replacement meal came about 1/2 hour later....they weren't busy. The second time it was rancid fish in the fish n chips. We stopped going for a while, but found that if you go on weekends it is always good. Heard they have a cook that only comes in mid-week. Not sure if it's true, but we won't go back on a Wednesday. read more

Coyote Cafe was GREAT this morning!!! We brought our entire Vista High School cheer team in for breakfast after their "fun run". Our servers were SO accommodating to our large, crazy party. They had a room in the back all set up and reserved for us! They even allowed us to split the checks to make it easier on the girls (and us, their coaches!). The food is always on point but the service is not. I always pray that we don't get the older lady with reddish hair. She's rude and you have to wait until the end of your meal to get refills on sodas that you asked for with your meal EVERY TIME. The Hispanic lady that's middle aged is always great. I live a couple blocks away so I come here pretty often. The prices are a little high but not too bad. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and stay open pretty late so that is a plus. One of my favorite little diners to go to! I love the scenery and the large variety of food that they offer. The portions are huge and every time I have gone, the service was speedy and the staff was friendly. This place is super cozy and kind of reminds me of home. If you are looking for fancy, gormet food, then this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a meal that reminds you of a home cooked meal and great company, this is your place! This is my favorite breakfast spot. The ingredients are top quality and the food tastes great. Rarely do I find a place that I don't clean my plate, but I always leave a little here, so the portions are big. The Corned Beef Hash is just about the best I have ever had, the omelettes are great, the pancakes are off the charts. I got a side of salsa with an omelette and it was incredible. If you like salsa with your eggs don't forget to ask for some on the side. I'm going to have to drop by for dinner one of these days. If it's anything like their breakfast it's sure to be a treat. So there you have it. Awesome food, reasonable prices and a charming place. It is getting popular now though so it's busy on weekends. I am VERY disappointed in this place's customer service! I have been here a few times before and always enjoyed my experience but NOT today!!. We walked in with a very small waitlist of people in front of us and many came after us. We had a party of 6 (2 large men, 2 children under 5, one pregnant women and another women). We have waited for over 35 minutes and have watched MANY parties be seated before us; they have avoided eye contact the entire time knowing full well what was going on. When asking the hostess (and whom appears to be "running" the place) WHY we have waited so long she simply said they didn't have a table big enough for our party (despite seeing up to parties of 5 seated before us and MANY smaller parties-suggesting tables could have been put together). So I finally asked "WHY if you knew you did not have space for us hadn't you mentioned to it to us upon arrival so we could choose to stay or go early on?". This question was simply met with "well I don't know" coyly. We are FINALLY sat, interestingly enough, in a booth I saw MANY prior parties be sat at. Nonetheless they are ONLY getting two stars bc of some of my past experiences her. UNFORTUNATELY, one time is all I need to turn me away from a place; especially regarding its customer service. read more

My Mom and I came in Christmas eve as we had been in Oceanside doing some business. On our way home we stopped in. We have not been to Coyote in years and it was NOT what we remember. Immediately we were stunned by their prices clearly reflecting the remodel. The initial service was not over the top. Perhaps all the "excellent" service comments are because the customers are regulars, which shouldn't matter. The person who seated us was not very friendly. I don't expect syrupy sweetness but I also do not want to feel like I am irritating the employee/owner, whichever it is. She brought our hot tea, took the order and did not come back. I don't like to refer to individual's age; however, I did not pay attention to names. After we gave our order, the young lady also serving took over and was very personable and helpful. Our burgers and clam chowder were good but overpriced. Saddest part is I really wanted pie to celebrate my completion of an exhausting finals semester. So.... I ordered coconut cream pie and my Mom ordered blueberry. Oh my, they should never recommend either. The blueberry was NOT good, my Mom did not finish it. The crust was burned and the blueberries were tart and bland. I have never tasted coconut cream pie like this one. It was a odd creamy mixture, not the custard/pudding type that most coconut cream pies consist of. When your Grandma is a gourmet chef and baker, desserts are held to a higher standard. Over all, our meal was overpriced and the dessert was awful. Clearly their world won't stop if we do not return but for the record, we won't be back. For breakfast we ordered country fried steak and huevos rancheros. Huge portions and the food was good. Not fantastic but satisfying. I ordered hashbrowns not country pototates but didn't complain. Coffee could have been refilled sooner. The corn tortillas were cold and not cooked enough. The tortillas would break if folded. The server was sweet and nice. No name tag. This place has pretty fair prices for what you get and in relation to portion sizes. The waitress was friendly, but we hardly saw her and it really wasn't busy. Another thing is, the food is very average, I would say you could compare it to Denny's. The food was kind of okay, I really wouldn't rave about it. Other than that the experience was fine until the end. We went to pay and I actually saw the cook putting meals in the fridge with Saran Wrap over them like to serve to people in the future. Also a microwave was right over these fridges so it really made me think where my food was coming from. This made me put together why my bread on my sandwich was so crumbly and why it was basically cold but it was "toasted"...among other things. Also later in the afternoon I had a stomach ache after eating here and the other person I came here with had actually gotten full on food poisoning. All in all I don't know that I could recommend this place, okay food to an extent, fair prices, outdated but fine atmosphere. read more

Visited this restaurant today after calling my order in. I ordered a Chicken Greek Salad with NO Olives. Picked up the salad and got home to discover that my salad was full of black olives. I called the restaurant very cordially to advise of the error when the owners daughter Amanda accused me of placing the Olives in the salad myself. I asked her what I would have to benefit from this and she stated that she remembered me ordering a Greek salad 6 months prior and that I had called and complained then also. Last thing I ordered from this restaurant was a French dip sandwich and this was my first time ordering this. I was offended by the owners daughters treatment and will not return to this restaurant. Quality of the food is important and if I had allergy's to olives it could have been medically negligent on the restaurants part. But to be called a liar and accused of placing olives on the salad was the issue at this visit. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you aren't catering to your customer then why be in business. I know that there are a lot of positive remarks on here and the quality of the food is not the issue. Don't let the name fool you into thinking this is another Mexican Cafe. It is some of the best home cooking at very reasonable prices. Love their pork chops, roast beef, turkey, and friends love the Monty Cristo Sand. Meals come with soup or salad, main with veggies and potatoes and pudding for desert. My friend and I were venturing in to this 4 starred place hoping for a great dining experience. It turned into a nightmare. The cook was puking in the front near the dumpster. After he went into the kitchen without washing his hands! I don't how this place received an A from the health department. The owner was not apologetic at all, on the contrary he was very confrontational; I felt threatened. I am a cancer survivor someone cooking my food with contaminated hands could make me very sick . After my first visit a few weeks ago to the Coyote Cafe with my husband and elderly father who lives nearby, I'm going to have a repeat performance this week of having the absolutely BEST blueberry pancakes. Seriously, I'm a serious blueberry lover, and have been for about 55 years...these are hand-down, the fluffiest, most flavorful, so full of fresh blueberries (on top too!), pancakes I've ever had! My dad ordered the regular Belgium waffle, and he said HE had never had a better waffle...and in his younger years, he was known for his fabulously delicious waffles himself! Can't remember exactly what the husband ordered, but I do remember he really enjoyed it!,,,whatever it was! The coffee was very good and refilled promptly.
