    Coyote California Burrito

This is a small Mexican restaurant located in the Avalon area of Catalina Island. Service is prompt and friendly. Place was clean. Outside tables available. Albóndiga Soup was delicious. The California Burrito was ok but needed extra flavor.

I got the Asada quesadillas, and my boyfriend got the asada wet burrito! With salsa verde

This place was so lovely, the waiter was very nice, he took us in knowing they were going to close. He gave us everything in a timely manner. The food was amazing! It was so fresh and just as good as I was expecting!

What happened to my review? The place has the Mexican vibe without the a true Mexican tastes. Terrible rice, terrible beans . The taste was like they opened up a can of beans and poured it. The rice tasted as if someone who has never made Mexican rice followed a recipe for the first time from a a gringa on YouTube. Four dollar Water BOTTLEs. Long time to wait for bad food and very expensive, even for Catalina. Pass this place and go somewhere else.

EXPENSIVE & really bad tasting food. I should have read the reviews first, unfortunately I didn't. One taco was $8 & the "carne asada" did not taste like beef. It was bad. Even something as basic as the bean & cheese burrito was bad tasting & it was $21!!!!! Choose another place save yourself

Celebrated my birthday on the island and ate dinner here - Ricardo was my server. Was very rude and did not make us feel welcome. He kept serving the outside faster than us. So we finally ordered & went outside. He also didn't hesitate to give us the check while we were still eating and came to check if we paid I told him we are in the middle of eating (hadn't ate all day) and we weren't ready. Others outside/inside didn't have the check, only us. Overall, not a welcoming experience.

The drink is mid and the shooters were even worse. I probably wouldn't come here again.

Once we were finally seated, another 15 minutes passed without a server acknowledging us. We asked a busser for water, and he said he would get our waiter. We watched him speak to a male waiter, who looked directly at our table but returned to chatting with the bartender. Four other nearby tables that had been seated after us were also left without service. When the waiter eventually headed in our direction, he walked past all of the waiting tables and stopped to talk with guests who had already been served. After sitting for 35 minutes without even receiving water or being greeted by a server, we left. The couple at the table next to us left as well. It truly felt as though the waiting tables were being deliberately ignored. There are many wonderful places to eat on Catalina Island, but based on this experience, I would avoid Topside.

Drinks: Dirty Martini 2/5 Food: - LEMON GRASS CHICKEN CRUNCH SALAD 4/5: This salad was incredible. The dressing was so flavorful. My only complaint is that it was drenched in dressing so a bit too salty and soggy. I would just ask for the dressing on the side next time. - PRIME RIB 4/5: We chose a baked potato and brussel sprouts as our two sides. The baked potato was on the drier side, and the brussels were small. The prime rib itself was good. Meaty cut and pretty tender. I wish the horseradish had more of a bite though. - FRESH CATCH OF THE DAY 3.5/5: I opted for the fresh catch booked with a lemon and garlic sauce alongside rice pilaf and asparagus. Flavors were great but it was slightly overcooked so a bit on the dry side.

One of my favorite meals on the trip to Catalina was the Caesar salad. I had here with the added shrimp. The shrimp is delicious and pea so well with the salad. I honestly have craved this salad once or twice already since leaving. Also had a great pesto type pasta, and a special shout out to their scallop potato that came with the lamb chop. Overall, food came out quickly, and the staff was very friendly - recommend for a casual dinner when you are on the island. Note that they only do bottled water.

We were essentially fighting for our lives with the amount of flies in the corner. Only got more annoying when the food got here. Waiter was chill and the food was fine. Ambience: Very spacious, they have the AC pumping in here, bar top with many tables. Drinks 4/5: The michelada was very good and came in a large glass. FOOD: - Oysters Rockefeller 2.5/5: There was way too much cheese on here, you can barely taste the oyster itself. It was also very overcooked. - Lobster Roll 3/5: Just ok, nothing special. It was on the bland side. We had to request a fresh batch of fries because they were stale, cold, and flavorless. - Linguine with Littleneck Clams 2/5: This dish was terrible. Overcooked noodles. I will say they did include a good number of clams but the entire dish lacked flavor. They could have used a quality butter for the noodles. I added two slices of lemon and that helped a bit but overall I would not recommend this dish. There are other items on the menu that I'd like to try and with Avalon having such limited restaurants, I would give this place another try for maybe the ceviche and taco dishes.
