So glad we found this place while visiting Boone. Always looking for non chain business'. We ate here for dinner on a Sunday and the place was slammed. There was a half hour wait for table or eat at bar and sit immediately. There was no one else at bar and the tender was super nice and helpful. Coyote Kitchen only serves Lost Province beer which is a local microbrew. See attached picture with all featured beers the night we were there. This is a hispanic menu with lots of Cuban influence. I liked what I saw on menu. My wife ordered the Baja which is a bowl with rice base, a couple other items and topped with Grilled Catfish. The portion was good size and my wife enjoyed her meal. I ordered a Quesadilla that had carmelized onions, spinach, red beans and mojo pork with side of my salsa choice. This thing was so big I barely finished it. The flavor was good. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and it has always been consistently incredible. We both agree that this is the best meal in Boone. It's unique, extremely flavorful, and very well thought out. We make a point to come here any time we are in the area if time allows. Just as the quality is consistent, we are also consistent with our orders. I'm sure the rest of the menu is amazing as well, but since we don't get to come here too often since we don't live in Boone anymore, we always order the same things. Our top recommendations are the Texicali and Yucatán bowls. If you're getting a bowl, make sure it has the chipotle cream cheese on it. This stuff is addicting. I've tried to replicate it at home and can't pull it off. We also always get the cranberry chipotle salsa. It's sweet and spiced and goes so good with the boats. For appetizers, we can't ever miss out on the plantains with the cranberry chipotle for dipping. These are the best plantains we've had. Do yourself a favor and go off the beaten path to eat here. You won't ever forget this meal and I promise you'll keep coming back like we do. read more

First visit. Recommend to us by a friend. It's tucked away in a little cove of a larger shopping center area. Parking ok. Restaurant has a big covered out door area. Two corn-hole boards outside. Inside a small bar; seating to the right of the checkin foyer in front of a refrigerated cake case and to the left (behind the bar). They also had a big separate room that may be good for private parties. They have a lot of high tops. We sat at one and it was comfortable-some aren't. Multple SIGNS SAY: ABSOLUTELY NO SELF-SEATING NO EXCEPTIONS! So don't be sitting down without permission Arrived on Friday around 1:15pm - it looked busy but was nowhere near packed. Many empty tables. Appeared to be too understaffed to seat people right away. Staff seemed stretched too thin and none of them seemed happy to see the next customers. The hostess was mostly away from the front desk busy cleaning tables. She seemed pretty distracted. There were at least 6 parties ahead of us waiting to be seated so we went to the last 2 seats at the bar because the waiting to be seated seating area was packed - also people standing outside (in front of all those empty tables no one is allwed to sit in withouta license ). Only one gal working the bar and she also seemed quite busy; was multi-tasking mixing drinks and serving people in the bar area plus busing those tables and the counter. I got a margarita because they do a house made mix. Wasn't any good. Short glass. Didn't taste much tequila $7. I have yet to have a good margarita in the Carolinas. I'm ruined by Texas margs. Imma gonna quit ordering them here. I give up. Stick with the beer. I always wonder about the alcohol being watered down when you get a short glass and don't taster a drop of booze. I only saw 3 other servers - younger kids. 2 of 3 had gas in their tanks and were moving at a good pace but the other one needed to go home, take a bath, and go back to her parents basement and play her video games. It looked like it was excruciatingly painful for her to actually be there "working" [in low gear]. Once we got a table it took awhile but our server Gavin was pretty thorough. He wrote everything down. He was personable and as attentive as he could be considering his workload. Orders arrive 100% correct. Food came out in a reasonable time. Slacker-girl brought fries out as appetizer but didn't bring plates and started to walk away. Seems to be a common issue in this neck of the woods. I don't get it, but we've learned to hurry up and beg for plates. She got them for us right away. I had a nacho salad- no protein (just wasn't in the mood). I had warm sweet plantains with it - delicious & generous side order $5. The greens were very nice. The mango vinaigrette was more like mango puree. Not flavorful and i didn't taste any vinegar - not getting that next time. Don't recommend it. The grilled red pepper & onions were on the minimal side. Wayyyy too many tortilla chips. They are pretty bland chips BTW. Not a high grade chip (again I think we're ruined from living in Texas so long and having legit chips & salsa). Speaking of salsa - all are served in tiny cups - stingy!!!! You gotta pay if you want more. Very weird concept to people who don't live here. This is a condiment for gawd sakes. Ketchup also came in a small tin cup. No up-charge for more ketchup. Salsa $1 a cup. Salad Dressing comes in a slightly bigger cup. Just enough. You want more you gotta pay. We shared the combo fries. Delicious. The regular herb ranch was pretty salty - it seems like a lot of places here in the Carolinas make it too salty like that. Trying the Chipotle next instead of the herb. Hubby had the wings with dry rub - they were done just right. House dry rub was a little heavy. We'd get them again but try a different topping next time. Prices not bad. Gender neutral bathrooms. The seat was down (thank gawd). Overall - it was ok - need to try some different items, but we probably wouldn't come back because of the long wait times and understaffing & no warm and fuzzy feeling being there. Three stars because there's potential for this to be a great place with a few changes, but right now it's a "Meh or a Nah" when we come back to this neck of the woods. read more

I stopped by on multiple recommendations while on a trip to Boone. I wasn't sure what to expect from a place serving up southwest and caribbean soulfood, but it was delicious. From plantains to chips and salsa, there's something for everybody. We went with the chips and salsa sampler, the Domingo burrito, and the Phoenix bowl. Everything was beyond fresh. We had high hopes with a 4 star plus rating. Disappointed to say the least. Chips with the chips and salsa sampler were stale Sweet tea was weak and definitely not sweet. As someone who has been dining at this establishment for years and years and always sings its praises, I was really looking to returning back for the first time since the flood. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. After being seated, we sat at our table for 20 minutes and were never acknowledged by anyone. We finally had to stand up and go find someone to get our order. Our server took our orders (appetizers, sodas, and main dishes. Also had one side salad and asked if it could come out first ... hungry kid on board). 20 more minutes elapsed and she appeared with the salad. We asked if we might be able to get our sodas, which then took another 5 minutes. So 45 minutes in, and we are just getting our drinks. No apology. Just set 3 of the 4 drinks on the table. The fourth one was forgotten and never delivered. About 5 minutes later the main courses arrive. No appetizers were ever brought to the table so we asked that they be cancelled. Since the delay had been so long already, we asked for the check, which was unceremoniously tossed on the table. Mind you, it was not busy and there were several. servers working. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated & waited a little while longer for our server to arrive which is why it's 4 of 5 stars! For a party of 12, this probably is not your best choice. Our order was taken and the prepared food was brought out at 3 spaced intervals, so we ate in shifts. Half the items were lukewarm to cold upon arrival to the table. The orders weren't 100% correct, one of which was very undercooked meat. To top it off and the most concerning was the live bug in a salad. The undercooked dish was redone and a discount was given, but those around the bug salad lost their appetites. Had heard great things about this place and wanted to try it for years. Finally visited on a Monday evening. It was not busy and we were seated immediately. We ordered an appetizer of chips with chipotle cream cheese which was a hit with everyone. I ordered the full size Baja boat with grilled tilapia. I'm glad I ordered the full size. It wasn't huge and I was hungry. It had a good flavor but was heavy on the rice as was the burrito my son ordered. My vegetarian daughter ordered the appetizer chips with bean and cheese dip as her entree and really enjoyed it. Husband loved his Taos boat which had a cornbread base instead of rice and found it delicious. They had a good beer menu although we didn't order any. The food is tiny Chipotle portions with cornbread, the service is crap, and the prices have jumped since they got bought by a bar -- but there are a bunch of beers on tap, if that's why you want to eat here. This one-time local favorite went through a change of hands, and the recipes changed and portions reduced by about half while the prices went up significantly. There's just nothing special about it. Meanwhile, the service has declined in proportion... you're lucky to see your server, unless you need a draft beer refill. If you want takeout, it's kind of a crapshoot -- they arbitrarily don't accept takeout orders, which makes absolutely no sense because it's, you know, a restaurant's way of making money. read more

I was a little leery of coming here because my family, 5 of us, tends to be picky eaters--except for me. However, it worked out beautifully. Everyone found something they enjoyed. My granddaughter was especially stumped because there are almost no veggies she will eat. Our server, who was absolutely super, patiently helped her sub out items from her dish so that she still had plenty of food, and got her money's worth. We went to Coyote Kitchen yesterday for lunch and I'm already craving another meal there. I highly recommend the "CAB" tacos. Not sure why they are called that, but they are amazing. Possibly the best tacos ever. If you don't like spicy food at all, they may be a little too spicy for you, but I loved them. We also had amazing homemade cakes for dessert. The service was good and the prices were reasonable. My only frustration was that they don't have paper menus and you have to scan their QR code to bring it up on your phone. I like paper menus. But on top of that, we were unable to connect to their wifi and our server told us to connect to some other wifi not associated with the restaurant. But when my tacos came, I forgave them. :) read more
