I searched for weeks for the place I would use for our Pool Resurfacing. Robert was the only one that took the time to explain the nuances of what we wanted to do. We wound up needing to replace the plumbing, the light, with new electrical, as well as the intended resurfacing. Once reviewing everything that we would need to get the result that we wanted, his pricing was still below what others were charging for the same changes. I had seen the reviews that complained about communication and brought this to his attention, he let me know how they communicate and what to expect, texts and left messages (as they are not always able to answer the phone right away) are best. I never had a problem with communication and they always got back to me with answers. The process was easy (as far a demolition and installation can be.), Jan even came by to fence off my new Puppy so that he would not get lost, or interfere. Everything was up-front and when I did not understand a process Robert or Jan explained to to me so that I had no concerns. The workers are fast and knowledgeable and were able to explain to me what they were doing and what I could expect, and they even added some personal touches that my wife and I wanted included. Since it was all new to me, I really wanted to know the processes and turn around times, Robert took the time to explain these to me and everything exactly as he explained it to me. I don't like critiquing people, but I would say they are the best! If I ever need these services again, I would no doubt use CPR and will recommend them to anyone looking to bring new life to their pool! read more

Communication sucks... We had our pool resurfaced by them in September and had the same experience as others. When you call the office, you get Jan - who is nice - she has no answers though for anything and says they'll have to call back. And they never do. At the beginning of the job, it took 3 requests for the tile sample we wanted until they finally brought the right one. Then they delayed getting the job started. Once they did, the job went quickly. They sent over a pool guy for the chemicals who was impossible to schedule with and never communicated either when he would come by. The pool guy noticed that the spa jets were put in backward! and out pool light is now flooded. We called and spoke to Jan and guess what? NO response. Two stars for the pool looking decent - we'll see if it holds up. Hopefully the water in the pool light won't short out our whole system. yay. **Update: they have since worked toward making this right. They replaced our pool light and spa blower and are going to refund our setup charge. read more

We bought a house with a pool that hadn't been updated since the 70s and when we spent much time with it our feet would get all chaffed. So we called Robert and Jan to give us a quote for resurfacing. You could tell they were experienced and they gave us the best price out of any of the bids we got. Once they got started the process went without a hiccup. There was an issue with the pool light where it mysteriously went off about a week into the new pool, but they happily came out and fixed it (electrical issue). Anyways, I'd definitely recommend. It's been awhile since Complete pool and spa worked on my pool they did. But I call them wanting to possibly make my pool into a saltwater pool. They came out and saw my big pool light was broken they fixed it by putting in a new one. Offered to pay and they told me it replaced another one no charge. My longest review ever! We got our vintage pool replastered earlier this summer, the old border tile "bead-blasted," and a new, up-to-code LED light system installed, since the old light was dangerous. (We hadn't been using it.) I had been putting off the whole job, not knowing which company to trust with a fair estimate and good work, but Yelp reviews took care of that! And they were happy to come to Altadena for the estimate and work, just above Pasadena. No Valley Prejudice. As stated in other reviews, the company is run by Robert and Jan and their son Jimmy. Robert does the estimates, Jan does all the desk-work and phone/e-mail answering, and Jimmy supervises the work and does the followup. Someone named Tony (?), subcontracted I think, did the electrical work and deck patching (because of the new lighting.) I believe the labor (demo, plastering) is subcontracted out to very reliable people. It was a good experience from start to finish. Robert came out quickly to do the estimate, which was reasonable, and quickly received. Jan was awesome handling my borderline obsessive questions (HINT: you'll get a quicker reply to phone calls-which I hate making-than to e-mails) and never lost patience, not that I could hear, anyway. And Jimmy was great, cheerfully overseeing a re-do (the deck patch from the electrical work) without complaint or blame. The demo guys and the plastering guys showed up like ninjas, waiting silently by the pool for legal work hours to begin. (My husband ran back into the bedroom at 6:55 AM saying, "There are a bunch of men in the back yard!" I had always scoffed at TV shows showing SWAT teams sneaking up on people's houses while the people inside were oblivious to their arrival. Now I'm a believer.) What hard work, but no complaints from them ever, and good cleanup each day. The demo took from 7 AM to 3 PM. And the plastering took place in one long morning. 6-7 men, I think. Awesome. The swarmed like octopi over the entire pool. There were a couple of awkward moments, but just one confusion having anything at all to do with them. First, though, there's the issue of emptying your pool during a drought, and then refilling it! Awkward. As advised, I kept our small local water company informed each step of the way. (You remove the chlorine source in advance to let the chlorine dissipate. Takes a week, I think.) The pool emptied in a fairly discreet way, but- ::::cringe.:::: The other confusion came with me getting conflicting information regarding wait time/plaster curing time before using the pool again. One person (not Robert, Jan, or Jimmy) said we could start swimming again almost right away. (I had started this job in early summer, rather than a more logical time, so this was welcome news to me.) But Jan said otherwise. The differing opinions weren't a problem: **No matter what, just go with what Jan, Robert, and Jimmy say!** No ta-da surprises on the bill. Easy-peasy, except that it's money. (Entirely reasonable, given the work involved.) Later, no hard sell on their part, in fact no "sell" at all, just in response to a comment from me, Jimmy admitted that we could use a new pump. (Rebate still not here, but I'm optimistic.) Wow, was he right! The old one was so noisy, and the new one is super-quiet and is an energy saver I think. And when I complained mildly about having to put back the ugly old floating chlorine space-pod thingy, he said it was pretty easy to install a chlorine dispenser ($200) to the new pump. FINALLY, a solution to a years-long silent gripe! The new pool light: The electrician-guy showed up at first with a colored light (NOT ME!), so stay on your toes. Easily taken care of though Biggest issue, not their problem: My original fantasy had been to put in a timer so that the lights worked automatically. I ended up not getting that, though it could be added at little expense, I've been told. My idea was that we wouldn't have to stumble outside each night to turn off the light. (Age issue, and mobility issues at present.) But then I also wanted to be able to switch it off easily, overriding the timer, if we were going away for a while, for instance. I was told that would have involved unscrewing the fixture each time (which is by the pool, under a hedge, and doesn't bother me at all, unlike another client), which seemed like a very bad idea indeed. So I nixed that the timer, my original pool light dream. And we *do* have to totter outside and up the steps in the dark, flashlight in hand, on the nights we have the light on and the time comes to turn it off. Not sure how safe that is in the long run, and it basically means we don't use the light as often as I'd like. Maybe our signals just got crossed toward the end? Was there a simpler solution? I think this was probably my fault, given the overall friendly, competent awesomeness of the company. HAPPY CUSTOMERS! read more

First - My pool looks beautiful and they completed the job on time. 3 Stars because I was incredibly frustrated working with such an extraordinarily disorganized company. Communication between the owner, his office person (his lovely wife), his son and his his crew was non existent. I think they tried their best - - but the communication stunk. Bottom line - the pool looks good, they did what they said they would and it was only a few days of frustration. I would encourage the owner to be direct and honest and TALK to your clients when you know they are not completely happy, not avoid them. I thank his wife for the bottle of delicious wine. Supper clean - they jack hammered the old plaster out and didn't leave dust. The plater job was perfect. We moved into our new home in May 2020 & were very excited to have a pool for the first time. It's a small pool but since we have family members with mobility issues, we needed handrails installed to assure safety. After researching & contacting many providers, I could not get anyone to commit to installing handrails. Most did not even call me back, some kept promising they would do the job but never followed through. I even purchased handrails myself only to find out that they were not correct for my pool. I lost so much time & money over a 4 month period. A friend of mine recommended Complete Pool & Spa & connected me to Jan. We had a great conversation & I immediately felt like there was light at the end of the handrail tunnel. She understood what I needed & took the time to take a look at my pool to make sure it could be done appropriately. She put me on the schedule for the job to be done ASAP. A couple of weeks later, Javier came to look at the handrails I purchased & thankfully they could be used. I valued his opinion regarding the placement of each one as he understood my safety concerns. We hired Robert because we needed our pool replastered but also wanted to update our pool to accommodate all our kids. The steps leading into our pool were very tiny and there was no room for the kids to stand or play. We had a very tight turn around time due to our sons bday party that had been planned months before as a POOL party. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Complete Pool and Spa, they did an excellent job! We had an extremely complicated backyard remodel including a completely new pool (new pool coping, tile, mini-pebble, new pool heater, new plumbing, etc.), new hardscaping (stairs/planters/Astroturf) and a very complex crisscross design around the pool including porcelain tiles on cement with strips of AstroTurf in between. The team was very responsive on dealing with the challenges of our custom design/desire for custom materials, the location which was on a hill up two flights of stairs behind the house and thought through all the details such as putting the tiles on cement, laying out the drain locations several times, building the stairs in detailed manner with porcelain tiles on top and paying attention to the grout color/deco seals. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of the pool which looks like a high-end resort and the price was very reasonable. I have no idea about the quality of their work since I decided not to move forward with them. They are nice enough but the customer service is flakey and unprofessional. E-mails and texts simply go unanswered. Phones just ring and ring during business hours with nobody answering and no way to leave a message. When I was finally able to get ahold of someone yesterday, she had no idea who I was or that they were supposed to be doing a job for me! She promised to call me back yesterday with a start date and, per usual, I never heard another word. It's not a good sign and I was not willing to take a chance with $8,000 on flakiness. I'm the lucky one! Had someone else do the work. Beautiful pool now and they were very professional. OMG! I am a professional Nurse Practitioner and my daughter works for the public school system. How stupid does he think we are? Small claims might be coming at you Robert. You better check your lies! In my last review I didn't even mention the fact that you built our new pool on top of our old pool. By doing this you raised the level of our backyard by approximately 2 feet. Since then, we had to fill our backyard with extra soil to make the deck level with the top of the pool. Now when my son who is 6'2 stands next our backyard wall, the wall does not even go up to his shoulders. We have to have a fence put in now to raise the wall higher. read more
