This was my first time eating at Crab99 and not sure I'll come back due to feeling that the food may have not been prepared 100% correctly. I stopped by on a Friday the minute it opened at 11 or noon and there was maybe 3 parties there in the back. We had to wait until our full party of 8 arrived to be seated which is standard everywhere. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very nice, however when the food arrived (everyone got seafood boil) my colleagues asked for theirs to be sent back because the food wasn't hot, like there was no steam coming out the bowl. Came to celebrate a birthday. You're entire needs to be present before they seat you and they do not accept same day reservations so plan ahead. It's small inside but I'm told there is a basement area (I did not see it or need to use the restrooms) It's located downtown and parking is always an issue downtown. With construction? It's worst so prepare for that. I was able to find street parking a short walk away. The music is loud but they are jamming if you like old school R&B. The staff was friendly enough. The candy apple drink was missing the alcohol (just kidding ..or am I)? I'm a lightweight and didn't taste or feel a twinkle in my eye. It tastes like a piece of candy. Very sweet !! The oysters are decent. Good flavor! Bang Bang shrimp was like tempura style. So more breaded and not much shrimp. It was ok. The catfish was good. Well seasoned and fried hard. The fries are great! Honestly this is one of the best seafood spots that I have been to. I was here for a huge conference and I see why the word got out quickly about Crab99. By the time we made it, there was a huge crowd of people waiting to be seated. It took us 45 minutes to be seated, but once we were the service was great and we received our food pretty quickly. The ambience is super casual. The music playing, people dancing, the bar is lively, etc. The service was really great as well. Every staff member we encountered that day was very pleasant. The music was very loud, which would've been okay maybe at night, but we were there at 1 pm for lunch and struggled to have a conversation over the blaring music. One of the guys who worked there was walking around with a gun on his hip -- it definitely didn't give off a safe or relaxed feel. If that's how it is in the middle of the day, I would not want to be there late night on a weekend. I ordered the spicy margarita. Usually, they're made with fresh jalapeño, but this one used pickled jalapeños, which gave the drink an unpleasant pickly taste. I only finished half of it. The lobster roll was okay, but the lobster was a little overcooked & tough. Maybe that's why they felt the need to chop it all into tiny bits; I've never had a lobster roll served that way before. The seasoning on the Cajun fries was great, but the fries were mostly limp & soggy. If the fries had been crispy, they would've been amazing. My wife and I visited on a Saturday around 6:45 PM. While the place was packed, it quickly became clear that the crowd wasn't due to popularity, but rather a complete lack of urgency and flow. Sitting at the bar gave us a bird's-eye view of the chaos. Drinks sat for nearly 30 minutes before being taken to tables. The woman next to us waited 45 minutes for her order and eventually just walked out without ever receiving a thing. We even saw a server wait 30 minutes just to get "manager approval" to have a drink remade. The Management Issue: The most frustrating part was seeing the manager on the floor. His energy was incredibly lazy; he didn't seem interested in helping his overwhelmed staff or creating any sense of urgency. When you have a packed house and only one bartender, you need a leader who steps in. Instead, we waited nearly an hour and a half for our food. Maybe try adding a second bartender on nights you know there is going to be a packed house. The Food: The food was actually good, though it had clearly been sitting for a bit before the bartender finally went back and grabbed it for us herself. Verdict: The atmosphere is decent, but the management is non-existent. They need to rethink their staffing and service model (switching to "zones" might help). Until then, we'll be sticking with Juicy's for our seafood--the service and quality there are consistently better and far more professional. read more

I visited Crabb 99 on February 12th and had a pleasant experience, so I decided to go back on February 15th. Unfortunately, my second visit was very disappointing. I ordered the fish and two sides of Cajun rice. The fish was extremely tough, overly crunchy, and just not appetizing at all. Also the rice was over cooked and mushy the texture was unpleasant and it did not taste fresh. What made the experience even worse was that when I asked to speak with the manager about my concerns, they refused to come speak with me. I felt dismissed and unheard as a customer. Good customer service is just as important as good food, and this experience did not reflect either. I was really looking forward to enjoying my meal again, but this experience fell far below expectations. hope the restaurant takes customer feedback more seriously in the future and works on improving both their food quality and service. We went to this place as a recommendation from our Uber driver. When you first walk up, there is a sign that says today special $25 for half a pound of snow, crab, half a pound of shrimp, corn, one egg, and sausage. The person at the front desk was not very friendly. I did not catch her name, but she is short to medium height with dark hair and glasses. She was on the phone talking to a customer and she was very short with the person on the other end of the phone. It took a little bit of time for us to get seated and the place was not that busy. Our waitress and I wish I remembered her name was very nice, polite, genuinely happy and was very accommodating. It got to be a little bit busier towards the end and she forgot a few items but that is understandable. She apologized. One thing I will say is that they played really good music. The kind of music that you want to dance in your chair while you eat, it's a little loud, but not too bad where you cannot hear the person in front of you but it's definitely a more lively, upbeat environment. So I asked for the $25 special and she said that unfortunately it is $35 now because it is after 6 PM. That was fine, but in my opinion if it's after 6 PM, you should probably take the sign down. We got the snow crab and shrimp special and it was delicious. I can't remember the name of the sauce, but it is the one that combines all the flavors. Medium spice was perfect, some places say medium and it's too hot to eat, but this was a perfect spice. The sauce was tasty and flavorful and not too salty. I highly recommend getting Ramen on the side and then throwing that Ramen inside the bowl to soak up that sauce. We also ordered the lobster fries which were above average, but a little too expensive for the small amount of lobster that you get. I heard The shrimp Poboy was really good here. We did not order it, but our Uber driver told us to get it and the table next to us said that it was really good. We may have to come back just to try the shrimp Poboy. As we were leaving, I needed some utensils for my to go order, the same girl at the front was talking to our waitress, and they were having an entire conversation about parking in the front and if there was a tow truck and so on and so forth, but did not acknowledge me. There were two workers in the front one Male and the same female that was on the phone earlier. After about a minute of listening to them talk about parking in the front I had to interrupt her and ask her if I can please have some utensils to go. She looked at me, rolled her eyes, grab the utensils and put them in my bag without saying a word. It's employees like this that make me not want to go back to an establishment, even if the food was pretty good. Everybody else was great, but the two in the front can use a little education on customer service. That being said, I would come back here again and would just pay no mind to the employees that were a little less than helpful . Shout out to our waitress though was awesome and genuinely happy to be working there. Once we arrived, I was surprised to find that this place is 21+ only, especially since it was only 6 PM and there were young kids inside.The hostess still allowed us access just confused on why my daughter was being asked if she was 21. The service, unfortunately, was the low point of our visit. Our server let us know that only one bartender and one server were working, which slowed things down quite a bit. The server was friendly and upfront about the situation, which I appreciated, but the wait for everything did drag out our meal. Now, the food? Definitely an 8/10! This is a bar that is open for breakfast & brunch. I kept seeing other people getting seafood from here, and I wanted to try it myself. But when I went around 1pm, they were not offering regular menu. I do like breakfast and brunch food as well, so I said no problem, I decided to dine in. I loved their shrimp and grits. It had generous amount of shrimp. It had a lot of oil and felt really heavy in stomach but they grits was so tasty. For the price I was pleased with it. Other restaurant would charge more for something like this. That being said, I was disappointed with one thing which was this "B&B service fee" of 15%. It was not written on the menu, and I was not communicated about this by a host or my server. When I asked my server if this is something she gets to keep, she said no. She told me it is just a fee for break and brunch. I was confused as to what it is exactly for. But I wasn't there to make her job difficult and wanted to leave soon so I paid that and tips for her. I am aware that it is getting more common for restaurants to charge fees and surcharges of many kinds. However, I think they should at least inform customers of it, instead of putting it on the bill as a surprise. It's only fair that way. Transparency matters. read more

We popped in for an unplanned night out on Halloween while our kiddos went around town begging strangers for candy. We arrived around 7pm on a Monday evening, so it wasn't very busy. My honey ordered 1.5 lbs of snow crab legs and said that he felt it had been the best bang for our buck of all of the seafood restaurants we've visited. It was a true 1.5 pounds! He also had a classic margarita because they were on special for $5. While he didn't comment on the taste of the drink, it was a pretty nice-sized glass. I ordered the Strawberry Lemonade (for which I am quite the connoiseur) and unfortunately, I wouldn't suggest it. I also ordered what was listed as a catfish sandwich on the menu and was somewhat shocked when I received a catfish po boy (complete with some sort of sweet honey mustard sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickle). I should've asked what came on the sandwich, so that's my fault. I would've removed the sauce and the tomato. I took it home with me, but ended up tossing it. I also got a side of steamed rice and the boiling sauce - spicy. I really enjoyed that. The spicy level is almost too hot to enjoy, but I really like hot stuff and the nasal-clearing effect it had!
