    Jars of preserved fruits
    Art K.

The old Crack Seed store in Kaimukii is a favorite of many locals. They still sell preserved fruits from jars, the way it was sold when I was a Keiki (child). When I land on the island, this is one of the first places I regularly visit to pick up crack seed. Crack Seeds are snacks found in Hawaii. It originated in China. It is preserved and dried fruits that are flavored with salt, sugar and licorice. It's a mouthwatering island favorite. The store is very small, so I recommend checking the list of offerings outside of the store. A list with photos are on the window in front of the store. Write the name and number of the item and when you go into the store it will help speed your purchase. The store can get quite crowded when people are unsure of what they want, so knowing in advance helps the flow of customers. My favorites are Spicy Mangos and Li Hing Cherries.

It is an after-school or anytime snack/seed/Icee stop. 2 ladies are running the shop now and they can be quite fun! They have a rainbow of a variety of dried fruit snacks, Icee and other treats. It's a small but clean and packed store. The ladies will touch the heavy glass jars to fill your selection and seal up your treats. There is pay street parking and there is a pay parking lot in the backside.

This place has an amazing selection! I especially appreciate the variety in li hing, not often you find so many different kinds.

I grew up in Hawaii and it made me so happy to find this totally authentic, old timey crack seated shop in Kaimuki! It seems like most of them have shut down. This one is typically tiny and jampacked with huge jars filled with every favorite from li hing mui plum pits to lemon peel and ginger, as well as some modern additions like gummy bears and Icees. A must for all Kama'aina and tourist foodies who want to see how the local people like to snack on candy!

Excellent crack seed store in Waialae area. Servers were helpful and informative. We ordered sweet plum, li hing mui and lemon peel but their selection is wonderfully huge!

    My haul!! See review !!!

2026 review. Just ordered a few items that I either like or just love!! If anyone loves ginger the one that I love is the licorice ginger!! I bought 4 1/4 lb bags it has the slight taste of licorice, soft texture ,'not salty and the little kick of ginger!!! I also got king sweet li hing mui, sweet whole seed, li hing mango, wet lemon peel and arare with a little packet of li hing juice ( I guess to pour on the arare!! Mouth watering !!!!

    Salted wet ume

This is my first time ordering in store!! I found these guys online many years ago. I like the super salty dried plum which are hard to find. And when I arrived in Honolulu it didn't cross my mind to go to the storefront until I saw the Crack Seed sign while eating lunch. I'm so happy that I didn't have to pay for shipping

Located on KOKO head Ave on the corner of Koko head and Waialae Ave. They have 121 different kinds of preserved dried fruit and seeds and also dried packaged fruits. They were very helpful and friendly and gave us items to try, even at that there are so many items that look the same but with different names and flavors. They have parking in the municipal parking lot or they also have some street meter parking. The store is small enough to hold maybe only 3 customers if more than that you would be next to each other all the way to the entrance. Service is fast so better to wait outside until others come out, instead of crowing inside.

Great stop for dried Chinese snacks with a wide selection of ling hing mui. They also other stuff like macadamia nut candy, lemon peel gummies and icees. Always have trouble deciding what to get.

I love this old school crack seed store! They have excellent variety and will bag the seed in 1/4, 1/2, and 1lb bags. The shop is small so it's polite to wait outside if there are a few people inside. The glass jars take me back to small kid time, prices are reasonable and product is ono!

This place is very nostalgic to my childhood. Seed taste the same as what I remember which is good. The store was a bit tiny which is authentic to a typical local crack seed store. Service was great which the ladies were helpful with me trying to decide what I was looking for.

Hmm, two Yelp listings are using the same street address but with different business names in the system. I decided to post to this listing because the 'Kaimuki Crack Seed Store' one seems to be outdated and has less than ten reviews. Anyway, this is a mom-and-pop shop known for a large variety of popular preserved fruit snacks (i.e. crack seed). A poster on the front window had photos of over 100 varieties. Despite the vast inventory, we came specifically because of their Icee machine. Each of us bought a large Icee with li hing mui (dried salt plum) flavor. The drink had a strawberry slush base with some li hing mui juice added to provide sourness to the mix. The tart factor wasn't quite puckering your lips, however it was distinguishable. The longtime proprietor retired a few years ago, and the place was purchased by the ladies who run Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery in Chinatown. After eating dim sum from that bakery earlier in the morning, this Icee was a perfect cold refreshment. The bonus was supporting two businesses from the same local owners. If we had more time and my stomach was not as full, then I would have asked for some taste samples of the snacks from this Hawaiian candy store.

Is this shop still open? We have been calling for a couple of weeks and no answer except recording states memory is full. I am hoping this store did not close

    Will reopen August 7.

There was one employee working at the register and another in the back. The service was attentive and efficient although there was only one person on the floor. They carry a great assortment of mochi and manju, including some varieties that need to be refrigerated. In addition, they offer local favorites like li-hing gummy bears and assorted flavored sembei, giving you plenty of sweet and savory options to choose from. The employee at the register was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, happily sharing information about the different mochi flavors and offerings. Most importantly, the mochi here is absolutely delicious. During this visit, we ordered a Girls' Day pack and tried the chocolate ganache Oreo flavor which was amazing. The mochi was perfectly soft and paired beautifully with the rich chocolate ganache filling. My friend loved it so much that she went back the very next day to order more! If you love mochi, you really need to stop by. I highly recommended this shop.
