But they do have excellent customer service and and will transfer a jug from Barbur to Whole Foods for me. They also sell Arz labne which I can't find anywhere else convenient in Portland. Certainly not at a conventional grocery store. They also sell all kinds of other international groceries like giant jars if dolmas, lavash, the best chocolate bars. I could go on and on. Walking the aisles makes me feel like I'm in a different country and it's fun. There's not much in the way of parking. Most people in the Pearl probably walk there. I know I do. You could delight in carefully curated products, a made-to-order grill, and employees who enjoyed working for the business. And then Good Food Holdings came to town and took a wrecking ball to the enterprise. From trash candy at the end of the aisles to workers simmering with rage, New Seasons has become yet another example of dislocated wealth running amok. I don't begrudge a business doing well because I think that can produce a reciprocal relationship with quality, innovation, and value. That's what happened when New Seasons was family owned and local. But now this thing is a trap door for enriching people across the planet who could care less about a ripe tomato or a grilled salmon sandwich to order. There's still enough decent product sourcing to be a draw, but the soul of this place has shriveled to a Reese's Pieces.
