I've had a few good meals here in the past but far too many awful ones lately. I love chicken and dumplings but the last one I had was cold chunks of chicken with a very very thick cool gravy sitting on top with a few cold dumplings. My family and I decided to stop here for supper after a long day of traveling. With the amount of cars on the property and people on the premises, we expected to wait awhile, but we were seated within five minutes of our arrival. Our waitress Ashley came right out and got our drink orders and delivered them promptly. She then took our food orders and made sure we all had what we needed. Our food came out quickly and was fresh, hot, and delicious. We had a great experience. Ashley also kept our drinks filled, brought us bread, and split our ticket as requested. As her uniform showed, she is definitely a rising star! We will definitely keep it in mind for a return visit when we are in the Abilene area in the future! read more

Man, I love crackle barrel but this location sucks. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. After 45 minutes we never received our food...this is right on I-20. For your traveling customers, you gotta do better than that. Another customer was stating that they had been there an hour and half...the place was EMPTY on a Friday night. Wow! Just wow! My daughter and I stopped here for a quick breakfast before heading to Fort Worth. Not busy at all when we arrived. Stood at the hostess counter for 15 minutes. I finally walked in and asked if someone was going to seat us. She rudely stated the hostess should be coming in soon. So apparently she is the only person that can seat people and she wasn't at work yet?? How did the people that are seated get seated. Finally that seat us. Waitress comes and takes our order. That was 20 minutes ago and we still don't have food. 5 more minutes and I am outta here. Never again! The manager should be ashamed of the way this place is run. Last night we are at Cracker Barrell in Abeline. We are regulars at Cracker Barrel and are familiar with their food. Vegetable of the day was green Lima beans so I ordered them. The beans were absolutely crispy. My husband order chicken livers and they were very over done. We ordered cornbread and got it after everyone was thru eating. My granddaughter ask for strawberry jelly 5 times before she got it. This was the worst dining experiences we have had lately. Worst Cracker Barrel ever! Took 15 minutes for our waitress to show up at our table. She couldn't understand how to handle a request for an extra egg. Drinks came out w/o my ice water or a mug for my hot tea. Had to ask for lemon twice. Food came out cold and looking like it had been sitting there for a while. Very rare to find a Cracker Barrel that is not excellent. This one is the exception. Service very slow (kitchen slow). Bathroom filthy. No paper in one stall but lots on floor. Long line at checkout. My hamburger steak was very well done, not medium as requested. We did, however, have a very waitress, Misty. She did a great job working with the slow kitchen. Cracker Barrel has a nice country feel to it. When you enter there is a store filled with various items. Further inside is the actual restaurant. The service here has always been great with friendly people all around. The food is equally as good. I personally like the double meat pancake combo. The pancakes are amazing! I want to say they are the best pancakes I've ever had! Syrup comes hot in little glass bottles! Now one little drawback is that service is a tad slow, but I guess that is why they have a little game on the table for you to play. read more

Not sure why this Cracker Barrel has low ratings? We had the pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits, as well as the hash brown casserole. It was all perfectly cooked and delicious. Would have gotten 5 stars but the biscuits weren't served as an appetizer like they usually are. read more

As far as chain restaurants go it's good southern food. Service is hit or miss don't go on Sunday as it is crazy busy. Love the shopping while waiting to be seated. The rocking chairs on the porch are nice southern touch. Kids I've the checkers and the skip a pin game. I can't get enough of the buttermilk biscuits and apple butter. read more

This is where you wanna eat if you want American food. Great customer service, food was cooked perfectly. Portion sizes are generous. I had the country boy breakfast. The only complaint I had was the lumps in my grits, however, that does let you know it isn't that microwaved rubbish. The steak and eggs were cooked perfectly. This is by far the WORST Cracker Barrel I have ever tried to eat at! Had to pay for sweet tea that I didn't drink because I don't drink hardly anything when I'm supposed to eat. But after sitting there 40 minutes (in which time server never asked me anything but walked by me several times) I received the wrong order. There was trash all over the floor, including a PANTY LINER at the table next to me which I noticed before I left. I never ate and was astounded by the sheer lack of customer service. I hope this is not someone's only experience with Cracker Barrel because they will never go to another one. Absolutely ridiculous. This is also my first yelp review but I had to share. Just recently went to CB. The service was good so was the food. My coffee cup was never empty. Even a waitress that wasn't assigned to our table stopped to refill our cups. I rate it three stars just because the food is nothing outstanding. What I really like is the food portions are a little smaller than what's offered at other places like iHop, which i really appreciate. CB will definitely be on my short list for going out to breakfast in the future. read more

We usually are very satisfied with Cracker Barrel; however this visit was not as good as it always is. We were all geared up for meatloaf and they were out. So we opted for the hamburger steak. Both of our steaks were extremely over cooked. They were very dry and did not come with gravy. We did ask for it and received it promptly. The good news is at checkout the GM was at the register and were asked how everything was. We expressed our concerns and he comped one of the meals. We will be returning and give another chance. This was the worst service I have ever received at a Cracker Barrel and the food wasn't great either. We had to go stand outside the kitchen and try to flag down the server multiple times. She seemed to be unhappy having to help us at all. I would've helped myself if I could. The chicken fried steak was a frozen kind, definitely not fresh and way over cooked. The Abilene Cracker Barrel is awful. They are constantly out of menu items. They forgot to put the turkey in our Thanksgiving dinner. Last year they forgot the stuffing! It's the worst management. The staff in untrained. read more

I tried the web site on both the contact link and the suggestion link. Both of those crashed after I filled out the forms. (4 times). We typically love Cracker Barrel enough to keep the app handy when we travel because of the consistent quality of food and service, but this was the absolute worst experience we have had. Service was extremely slow (1:45) even though we were there at 2:15pm. My fried shrimp was a combination of whole fried shrimp and fried shrimp tails (yep, just tails... fried as if they were whole shrimp), my husband's mashed potatoes were soup, my baked potato looked like it had been run over by a truck, the serving of green beans was pitiful, and my fried apples had the core plus the whole bottom of an apple (brown whiskery part included). My husband also ordered a salad, which was served along with his cole slaw after we had nearly finished our meal. My son's (2yo) mac and cheese was so gloppy it was unrecognizable, so he cried and refused to eat anything at all. Needless to say, we are very disappointed in this Cracker Barrel. read more

we could not drink any of their fountain drinks or brewed drinks. the water here tastes of chemicals. someone should have the water or equipment tested. for real. had to drink bottled water. This is the worst CB I've ever been to. I like Cracker Barrel. I really do, but my visit to this Abilene location was enough to tarnish the whole brand. I walked in with a party of 6. The place was half empty and we were told it would be a 35 minute wait. There was no line and no one was waiting. We were seated after the hostess figured out where they were mistaken. We started to order...they were out of lettuce, out of milk, out of pumpkin pie and out of dumplings. How is a Cracker Barrel ever out of dumplings?! Our order ended up being pretty simple: A sunrise sampler, two bowls of Cheerios, sides of bacon a slice of apple pie and some coffee. That all took about 30 minutes to arrive at the table. Also, no silverware. The sides didn't arrive. Coffees and waters were empty. What did arrive looked stale and unappetizing. This location is horribly mismanaged, understocked and disorganized. Fortunately, it's in an area with a ton of other great restaurants. I'd recommend going to any of those instead read more

The food at cracker Barrel was very consistent with the other cracker barrels, so the meal was good. I work at the one in Fort Worth, as a server nonetheless, so I know how our guests should be treated and the responsibilities that entail with the job. Our waitress was Adrienne and she did NOT do a good job by any means. She forgot our straws and has to be asked 4 times before bringing them, brought out bread with no plates, and we sat with empty cups that needed refills for about 20 minutes as we were trying to eat. The atmosphere was not pleasant. Several other servers, Chris and one other girl, ignored me as I tried to get their attention, they looked at me and then walked away same as Adrienne did . When I talked to the manager he was very polite and apologized, grabbing us some more drinks but he did make the comment "well it looks like she's at your table now". Overall it was not a pleasant experience at all, I would not recommend it and I would not go back. Those employees should be retrained or replaced. read more
