We went to Cracker Barrel Amarillo on Saturday night, realizing we would have to wait. We put our name in and found there out there would be a 15 minute wait. After 15 minutes, I went up and checked to see about how much longer. I was told they didn't have my name, the girl asked the other girl if she had put my name in and she said yes. I was then told she would put my name back in, but I would be at the bottom of the list again. We left. This is totally unacceptable. The server Lisa was great. She was friendly and attentive to when we needed anything. The food was good. We both ordered the meatloaf and it was good. The coleslaw was kind of dry though and the portion of fries was small considering I did order the large size and not the lunch serving. Overall good experience! read more

As somebody who works in food service, I get that it can be really stressful and difficult when a lot of people come in when they aren't expected, which seemed to be the case today. However, our waitress almost skipped taking our order, took down the wrong order from me, and proceeded to have a heated conversation with another waitress about which tables belonged to who, and how many they deserved, in front of me. Our waitress was also pretty difficult to get ahold of, which, again, I understand, and is why I'm leaving two stars instead of one. I need to remember the rule to never stop in Amarillo. read more

We decided to stop in Cracker Barrel for breakfast. The experience was negative with our waitress. The waitress referred to my guest as "Hon" and consistently put her hands on her shoulder. Just not very professional. The Coffee cup was stained. The waitress told us the kitchen staff should have washed with bleach but they probably didn't last night. We asked for scrambled eggs and instead they came out folded. My grits were cold and watery. I went there yesterday with a family of 5, we were seated in the corner table with 4 chairs. I sat at the end of the table with my daughter. My dad got chicken fried steak and the gravy was literally about 4 tablespoons. My whole was bacon was chewy. The waitress got my dad the wrong drink. Service is always slow. They never have the new sides they are promoting on the menu. If you're meal comes with with extra fixins they never come with the meal. It's always brought to you either half way through your meal or after you're done. Staff needs to be better prepared. read more

Don't EVER eat at this restaurant. Today 2 older men customers were being rude and racist with their African-American waiter calling him "black boy" among other things. Two managers, Mike and Deanna, came over to investigate the situation and did absolutely nothing. Those 2 customers should have been asked to leave. What kind of company doesn't stand up for their employees especially when management witnesses what's going? Stopped through on a trip from Dallas to Denver. Never eaten Cracker Barrel before. I definitely wasn't missing anything. Ordered fish and chips and the fish was obviously pre-cooked and frozen, then re-deep fried upon order. It was so overcooked that the fish batter was hard as a rock and was a dark brown. We have eaten at cracker barrels all over the country. We just ate at this one. Our waiter david was excellent. He made sure we had every thing we needed. The food was perfect. The only gripe we have is the cashier Ethel asked if we wanted to add a gratuity. It is none of her business if we tip. Had we been paying with a card I can see her asking but we had the cash on the counter. She says she has to ask. We are offended that she would feel like it's her job to make sure we tip. The past up a couple times I've been in no one wants to refill your tea or take your order.

If I could give it zero stars I would. Horrible service start to finish. First they have 6 teenagers as hostess and nobody was capable of putting us at an unoccupied table. The waitress failed to bring us our drinks twice and never even asked about the quality of my food which was hilarious because my meal was visible incorrect. In fact nobody asked about our meal. Even when we went to pay the cashier was some long haired boy who was so wrapped up in his conversation with his coworker about celery that he never even bothered to exchange words with us other than "sign that". The manager was way to busy helping a child find a toy then he was with managing his staff. What a disappointment. read more

I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door and my name was placed on a waiting list. The hostess said it would be about 10 min. but it was only about 5. It was very crowded but I was served water and drinks right away. My waitress was very friendly and patient with me because I was having a hard time making up my mind, but she kept checking in with me and was very gracious while taking my order. The Cracker Barrel is the opposite of jaded, despite their being semi-corporate. Everyone is so gosh-darned happy to see you, they just can't get enough of you. It is rad; I love it. Every single employee of The Cracker Barrel makes me (the girl nicknamed The Silver Lining Kid, and occasionally accused of being "too optimistic") seem like the most downtrodden cynic in the land. I had enamel-strippingly sweet marionberry pancakes and a cup of quite weak coffee. The coffee was really my only complaint, otherwise everything was just dandy. The place is like a gigantic happy housewives' housewares and candy store with a boisterous dining area tacked on. The menus are as cute and perky as everything else, and the food is pretty affordable. Katya's eggs were cooked to her liking, and she said the bacon was delicious. We bought some candy after breakfast, and the candy department lady was enormously helpful. She went in the back to check for more saltwater taffy, and then apologetically said that they had had a ton of spring breakers come through and that "most of the taffy is probably skiing!" Okey-dokey. Don't visit when you are hungover or having a bad day or if you are just a cranky-pants. You won't like the upbeat environs; it will most likely make you suspicious. And be forewarned: the patrons (quite literally) frown on profanity. I happen to LOVE Cracker Barrel, in fact had lunch there today. However, I've downgraded this unit because I had a very bad experience there on Sunday, 5/15. It was noon, I had been driving for three hours non-stop and needed food---GOOD food. The parking lot was just about full, and walked into a busy room. Hostess said that the wait was 40-45 minutes. I was just one little person wanting some lunch, and she wasn't at all helpful. I have sent this suggestion to CB Corporate before, and can't find that it has ever been acted upon, but this restaurant NEEDS to have a small section with small tables set aside for single diners. Either that, or one of the big round tables that appear in all of the units should be a table just for single diners, that a single, like me, can walk in, sit down with other like-minded and lonely diners, and have a quick meal. Maybe we really beat the dinner rush but in my experience, Cracker Barrel's are packed no matter the time of day. Our server was kind of slow and we even had to ask to get biscuits and corn bread. We received our food at 10 & I asked for gravy {which should have come with my meal} The manager came out & said it was 5 minutes after they closed & that they had thrown it out. He was not pleasant & I don't think it is appropriate to tell customers that you are already closed, when the reason we are still there is because we were waiting for our food. I ordered dinner over the phone with specific details. I was completely ignored. I ordered sweet potato extra cinnamon and brown sugar, got no cinnamon or brown sugar. Broccoli please steam twice and my Broccoli was raw. It would appear when I picked my up meal that I was treated with the same attention. It was like take this crap and get out of here. I have worked in food service for 18 years. I told the woman to please check this order with me and I will tip you if correct she turned and walked away, ok no tip. First time ever to a Cracker Barrel. People have told me you have to try Cracker Barrel! It's the best. I promise you ITS NOT!!!!! Driving cross county I have stopped at a lot restaurants looking for a great breakfast. As far as customer service, this place was great. The food was horribly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I went in and ordered sausage, bacon in scrabble eggs. Sounds easy I have gotten in restaurants all over the last few states I have driven through.
