I came here on an early Saturday evening to get dinner before catching a flight over at the nearby CRW airport. I started things off with some coffee as I was feeling pretty worn out. I ordered my usual Country Boy Breakfast with steak tips and eggs sunny side up. For my 2 sides, I got grits and fried okra. My order also came with biscuits and gravy. My waiter brought me some tomato slices and told me to eat them with the okra. That was my first time eating that combo as I was not aware that that was how they usually eat okra in the south. Well, eating at a Cracker Barrel is a crap shoot...some are pretty damn good and others are down right lousy. The ambiance is always the same...just the crowd mix changes throughout the day. The service is almost problematic, but is tilted slightly in favor of being ok. Look for servers with lots of stars on their uniform...they tend to be more into their job. The food, well it's pretty simple fare. Catfish, and fried chicken tend to be pretty good. Veggies are generally ok too, except sometimes very overcooked. Most breakfasts are ok too. Just wish the service was a bit more consistent...actually I should say a lot more consistent. read more

I go here all the time after I leave the hospital. I absolutely love this place. The staff is always so friendly, and they are very quick. My partner and I both have a diet, and they always help cater to our needs. We always find tons of things in the shop on our way out. The food is always phenomenal. Whenever I'm in an area that has Cracker Barrels, I'll pop in for at least one breakfast (my favorite meal) because there are no CBs where I live. This morning was "that" morning ... and what a disappointment! My server was delightful. She was at my table quickly, brought my coffee and kept the cup filled, and made some recommendations. I decided on the chicken fried steak and eggs with a biscuit and gravy and sliced, cooked apples. The meal came out pretty quickly (though it was early and not too busy) but my eggs were ice cold. On the same plate as the piping-hot chicken fried steak, I have to assume they were cooked first, then plopped on a plate which clearly had not been warmed in any way When my server came by to ask if everything was OK and I told her about the eggs (of which I'd only had one bite), she looked puzzled but got me a reorder quickly. Perhaps because they came out "on the fly," they were still warm, but the plate was once again ice cold. What the...? The chicken fried steak was the star of the show, though that was thanks in large measure to the Tabasco sauce I'd slathered on it. The gravy for the biscuit lacked any apparent flavor -- certainly no peppery bite -- and again fell flat. The biscuit was tender, but I'd have done better with butter and jam or honey than drowning it in flavorless gravy. So... while I won't avoid Cracker Barrels in the future, nor warn you about the chain in general, the kitchen in this particular outlet needs to up its game. THIS one, I'd avoid. read more

Y'all know if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. I asked for some mayo for my cheeseburger at Cracker Barrel. I LOVE my mayo. Anyways. I took a bite and thought it tasted awfully sweet. I took another bite to make sure. Then, I asked my mom to taste a little that was still left in the cup. She said, "That ain't mayo." I'm glad I did not read the poor reviews before we stopped here during our travels. We had a very good experience. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and were able to sit where we wanted. Tony and I stopped at Cracker Barrel in Kanawha City this morning for breakfast. We both opted to order the same meal. This Cracker Barrel location has improved greatly since the last time I have visited. The restaurant and shop area was very clean and we were seated quickly. I tried out some new items including the cherry lemonade, cheese bites and maple bacon grilled chicken. It was made fresh and tasted great! I highly recommend it if you haven't visited lately. We stopped here on the way home from a southern vacation. It was kind of late at night, maybe around 8:00. We were seated fast and orders taken. Good took a little longer than we expected but drinks were kept filled. The food was good, usual CB food. The managers both came to our table thanking us for our visit and asking if we needed anything. It seemed like a bit much since the waitress also kept checking. My husband and I came in at about 5:15 on September 1. We were seated and someone gave us a menu. No wait staff ever came to our table. We waited for 15 minutes and did not even get water. We left and went for dinner at a competing chain. I am thoroughly disappointed at the unorganized staff and the complete lack of a work ethic. The mashed potatoes were lumpy no butter, no seasoning just dry potatoes mashed and put on the plate. I had to ask for butter twice by the time I got the butter the potatoes were cold and the butter was cold so that didn't mix. The broccoli was good and the corn muffins. My friend said the pancakes were good. Another friend had the chicken stripes this were good but she left the mashed potatoes on the plate. The deep fried pickles were tasteless. Cracker Barrel has gone downhill. We have loved the Friday fish fry for a long time and made a special effort to stop in for fish today. The server was satisfactory and the atmosphere was as expected. The food was below par. What I had seemed to have sat under a heat lamp for an extraordinarily long time. It was soggy and rather tasteless. I could understand if we had come in during the last minutes but we were there before noon. Order completely wrong including asking for a substitution side for my son to replace tator tots due to shellfish allergy (fryer) but still received the tator tots with the substitution. We stopped by while driving to OH from NC. Cracker Barrel is usually a safe night stop on a long road trip when you don't want to spend much time searching for a restaurant before hopping back on the road, so we thought it'd be an OK choice. Seems this Cracker Barrel isn't quite up to par with others we've visited. When we arrived, we were seated almost immediately, but after that, the service was likely some of the worst I've received in awhile. Food was nothing out of the ordinary with what you'd expect from Cracker Barrel. It took awhile to get our drink orders...and another long while to get our food order taken. Our order was screwed up twice and even though the waitress walked by us several times, seemingly ignoring us, we had to flag her down to fix the order. Twice. We didn't get our biscuits/corn bread. We had to flag the waitress down again to get drink refills...and again for hot sauce...and again for more drink refills... eventually, we just dealt the hand we were given because it felt as though we were an inconvenience to the waitress and she was getting annoyed with us. The mashed potatoes were awful and cold and the pinto beans tasted like water was added and they were burnt. My husbands meatloaf was cold, but had good flavor. Had to hunt waitress down to get my sweet tea changed to coke. Tea tasted like water and was not sweet. Never got a refill on drinks or asked if everything was ok or asked if we wanted dessert. Cracker Barrel is a staple for the summer vacation, very family friendly place with good food, never had anything but breakfast from here, dinner looks good but it's a breakfast brunch place for me. Stopped here while driving through, to eat dinner and catch their daily special. My favorite of their specials is the Tuesday night chicken dish. In their photos and in the 6-8 places I've had it, it is tender, buttery, with a butter & flour sauce/gravy; but, this was something else. What this particular location served looked like a baked chicken, encased in baked stuffing...solid....dry...cooked until you could kick it down the road like a tin can (in fact, that would have been better use than consuming it)....and it wasn't that mine was just a mistake...I saw others served that looked the same way. I always liked Cracker Barrel when traveling, due to the range of choices and the "standardization" of quality; this experience killed that illusion. I'll return to Cracker Barrel (my wife & daughter love it); but, I'll avoid this particular site at all costs. read more

I'd always had good food and good service but not today. Could be a casualty of COVID-19. Might need a new kitchen manager. Cornbread was cold. Hash brown casserole was mushy and cold. No taste at all. Pinto beans had almost zero soup. Spoon would stand straight up in the bowl. Clearly not cooked today. Service was iffy considering server only had 3 other tables. This is a great Cracker Barrel. Great service, really good food. I eat there monthly, and have had a couple items not up to par, but they quickly made it right. My only complaint would be it's usually chilly. I see a lot of negative reviews here, but I believe people tend to write negative reviews more often than good ones. No place is perfect, but I believe this location is very consistent in service, good food, and has an extremely friendly staff.
