The most honest thing anyone can say about a CB is that if you've been to one, then you've been to any of them. Truly no difference between a CB in PA versus MD versus FL. Some Yelpers seem to think that the experience or food here warrants five stars and I personally find that pretty damn funny. Nothing here is five stars unless your server cured cancer during breakfast. Just like I highly doubt anything is one star either. Maybe a little reality check is in order or a reevaluation of priorities if that's what you're thinking as well? We were on the way back from OBX and knew where this place was from prior visits. Two key things drew us here: It's right off of 270 and nothing here takes long at all to render and hit the table. Service: Overall this was quick and efficient enough. Our drinks and biscuits/cornbread were brought out right away and the food took maybe 10 minutes. Only issue here is that the person who brought our food to the table (a different server) forgot a few of the sides and we had to flag down our server who brought them out immediately. Food: Apple Cider Chicken-Burger-Sampler Platter-Roast Beef Best thing you could say would be as expected with one exception. The exception would be the apple sauce they serve. It's not listed on the menu as a side but you can order it. If you do my advice would be DON'T. The stuff tasted like something that time forgot about and that it was left in the fridge open for six months. It had no flavor and smelled "funny". The store: I don't care. I don't need any country trinkets in my life or a bootleg copy of Glenn Campbell's Greatest Hits or The Oak Ridge Boys singing a Chinese take out menu. Thanks, but no thanks. Overall for a Friday afternoon things were lightening fast. We were door to door in less than fifty minutes. That to me is what you're paying for here. A decent enough place to stretch your legs, get out of the car yet you can get back on the road fast enough. While I'll never be a big fan of CB, they do serve a purpose in certain situations. Came here on a sunday night (fathers day). Im a 5 hour drive away from this establishment but i had to try it before heading home. It was hard to find as this location is in the back of a car lot. Once we found it, we went in through a store and was quickly seated. We wait a good 7 min before we were addressed. I ordered the black cherry soda and the fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese, corn on the cobb, and a baked potato. My sister ordered the grilled chicken tenderloins with broccoli slaw and fried okra. It took a good 10 min to get our biscuits and corn muffins. Another 5 min went by and we got our drinks. I loved the biscuts. It was hot, freah, and tasted homeade. I didnt like the corn muffins at all. It had no flavor, even with sugar. Our food took another 15 min. Service was extremely slow. When we revives our food, i got 4 nice big crispy pieces of chicken. I asked for white meat and the waitress told me it came with it. To my surprise i got a wing, thigh, breast, and leg. I loved the chicken. It was extra crispy the way i like it, one of the best friend chicken i had besides roy rogers. The mac and cheese was good and the corn was good and sweet. My sister was disappointed in her food compared to mine. Hers came with 5 thin measly pieces of chicken tenderloins and her slaw. They forgot to bring her fried okra, and the waitress who served our food told us it would be 2 min. That 2 min turned into 20. We then ordered dessert when our waitress came over and asked if we wanted the bill. I felt a bit rushed but we ordered the chocolate cake and banana pudding, also a refill for my drink. It took another 15 min to get our dessert and when we did my sister reminded the waitress again of the missing okra that came 5 min later. The cake was dry and stale. Since I had no refill after waiting a good 20 min, i had to drink my melted ice water just not to choke. The banana pudding needed to be sweeter to me but my sister loved it. After we finished our waitress came to collect our plates. I then reminded her again for the 3rd time that I didnt get my refill and she gave me a large to go cup with soda to make up for it. I was aggravated at this point because waiting over 20 min for soda while eating dry cake was torcher. Plus our waitress walked pass our table a good 10 times. Our bill came to 35$ which was not bad. The food was horrific. We have never been so disappointed in Cracker Barrel. My daughters ordered extra crispy bacon and received it very fatty and almost uncooked. When we asked the server about it... he asked them to put them on the same plate and carried it back to the kitchen and returned with the same bacon on the same plate where it appeared to have been microwaved together and the girls could not break them apart. I got a Text that I was on the list at 8:51a. We arrived at Store 262 in Frederick MD at 8:55am and I asked if a particular server was available. The host said he would check and came back to say she was working this day. So, we took the table he placed us at (in the middle of the room). We then waited (it is now 9:05a) and waited and watched a mature adult server (female) chatting with customers and standing around chatting like she had no care in the world. After about 10min she looked our way and waved sort of yelling "I will be with you in a minute". Its already been 10 of those minutes so I had a feeling it was not a good sign. She came back in a rush and said what can I get you to drink. Not sorry, not my name is ...., not good morning, not boo. Just what can I grab for you to drink. We gave that and again waited, another 5min to get two cups of coffee is hard to accept. Yet she kept hovering around three of her tables chatting and doing nothing else. Finally, she brings the coffee and says she will be back to take our order. We again waited (now its 9:20a) and five minutes later she asks for our order, and again, not sorry, not my name is ...., not good morning, not boo. So, we gave her our order, I ordered the Loaded Hash brown Casserole, three poached eggs, order of bacon crisp and not burnt, my wife got the old timers. Now we wait, and wait, and she never returns. Other tables (including hers) come and eat and leave. Its now 9:40a. I can't find her to ask what is happening with our food order, so I look and ask for a manager. The Asian (?) Manager when I start to express my displeasure about the service immediately takes a defensive posture and attitude with me the customer. Yes, I was upset (I have been at this store for almost an hour and still no food). He shows up at the table and he has her in tow. She starts to ask what the issue is, and I say, "WE HAVE NO FOOD"! She starts to give me some excuse and I said I don't accept it and I want to eat. The Manager then tells me he would handle it but was so defensive and had such an attitude telling me he would not put up with my tone or language. Ok I used the full wording for "BS". However, that's less than I would have used, and I did apologize. So, we wait again, and wait, now its 9:58a. The server comes over and says, "It will be a minute or so longer because the poached eggs take longer"! Sorry I lost it, to let you know I ran full service restaurants for many years, I cook for my church that includes full breakfast (yes poached eggs if they want), so this excuse was unacceptable. I asked for a check to pay for the one cup of coffee we each had but was told she did not have a check. You see this is not the first issue at this location we have had, cold food, over cooked burnt food, undercooked chicken, poor service, I could go on for another 10min. But I love CB, especially for Breakfast, but this time might have broken my spirit of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc... chances. Four of us stopped by on June 4, 2023, for a late lunch after a few hours at an amusement park. Two adults and two pre-teens. I cannot think of when I have had a worse meal. My order was for the beef tips, shrimp, and chicken strips. Asked for the grilled chicken strips, and received fried ones. I did not make a big deal about it - but didn't eat them either. The shrimp was awful as well - even with the soggy breading removed. The beef tips had a weird taste - had one bite of one tip. The mashed potatoes were so cold and stiff that I couldn't eat them. Our server was wonderful but clearly had too many tables and it showed. There were problems with the other meals but I am just speaking for myself. During our time at our table, there was a rather heated conversation taking place between who I later learned was the manager and a man I had assumed was some kind of regional manager. This was the worst food I've had in a long time. My husband and I both ordered the southern fried chicken. Weve been seeing the commercials showing that crispy fried chicken. So we thought well what the heck, let's give it a whirl. 12 hours later and I'm still feeling the effects of the massive amount of salt (and probably MSG) in the coating. It was so salty that it was burning my mouth. I've had about 2 liters of water and I'm still feeling awful....it HAD to be MSG. The sides were terrible, cold, and bland (but maybe it all tasted bland because of the salty chicken coating?). The cornbread was dry and tasteless..and shouldn't there be at least a hint of sweetness in cornbread? To top it all off, we waited for about 40 minutes for our food. Stopped in last week about 10:30 a.m. on a Friday. Too soon for lunch so I browsed the retail section for a time. Had not been here in some time and missed my favorite meatloaf entree. Restaurant was packed but I was able to be seated quickly at 11:00 a.m. Server who took care of my table was on point, did not miss a beat - excellent and attentive. My food came surprisingly quicky considering how busy it was. Bus groups, individuals, families. Very busy. Took a $6.00 carryout meal home. My food was delicious and no complaints. The staff was very friendly. However a lot has changed in the way of food from the last time I visited Cracker Barrel. I ordered Grandpa's Breakfast which came with a piece of chicken fried chicken, grits, hash brown casserole and two eggs, along with biscuits. The only thing hot on my plate were the two eggs. The hashbrown casserole looked like it had been sunbathing all day. It tasted as dry as it looked. My chicken fried chicken was room temperature. I used to love Cracker Barrel, however this trip I was definitely underwhelmed. I ate here twice on my vacation back to my hometown. Oddly enough I had never eaten here before. The service was good the first time. My second time when I was with a party of 10 the service was outstanding. It was a busy Sunday morning so there was a wait. The servers divided my party into two sections and we were given two servers. I never had this happen anywhere and it was very efficient. The food was good. I'm not sure where to begin, so I think it's easier to do the ol' Pros and Cons thing again. PROS: * I think given that we were a party of 7 on a Saturday night that we got seated pretty quickly. Props to their team for setting us up so fast. * The store is always fun to browse while waiting for a table. * The new chicken recipe (for the Homestyle Chicken, formerly only available on Sunday) is outstanding. I like the new crunch it has, while it still has a great flavor. And the crust really adheres to the meat. * The rest of the food was as expected: down home country fare with a soul-satisfying goodness. * The server was very friendly and pleasant. He felt more like a family member than a restaurant waiter. * Despite it no longer being on the menu as a side, our server was able to score me a side of cottage cheese! Over the top helpfulness! * The rest of the staff was equally friendly and helpful. One of the store team members offered to scan some books for me to confirm their price. Very nice of her to go out of her way like that! CONS: * Our server was very new, and I think he probably needed a little bit more time training before letting him into the wild. He was friendly, fast with certain things, but also way behind in others. I think he just needed more time and experience in juggling a section on a Saturday night. * One in our party never got a side until the very end when we were getting out checks. I blame the kitchen for that, but who knows where the problem really lay... * Multiple party members were missing items when the food came out, actually, which was a tad surprising. Most had this situation rectified very quickly, though. * I had asked for the sawmill gravy on the side, but it was served on top. Actually, that's not entirely true, as we didn't get the biscuits until very late (only the cornbread). We saw another table get them before ours, despite being told they were still baking a batch. I think it's an all right location, but they get inundated with busy nights sometimes. It happens. I still think overall I would gladly return to this location, though, especially if I lived closer. Didn't come here for a while as a few times I had a poor experience, but this most recent time was great. The pancakes here are some of the best, the biscuits were nice and fresh with some butter and jelly, Mac and cheese was slightly overcooked but still good. Iced tea was great. This place always hits the spot for me. I usually always always always get the chicken fried chicken but I decided to switch it up this time and got the fried catfish. While our waitress was nice, she was incompetent. She never brought napkins or refilled drink requests and the table was not set when we arrived. The food that I did get was poorly made and cold when it got to the table. My sunny side up eggs had runny whites which gave me the chance to really get to know the inside of my toilet. The young man working there told her that there is a table that just needed to be bussed. He kindly cleaned the table. We were seated shortly within 10 minutes. A hostess is the first interaction a customer receives when coming into a restaurant. She did not make us feel welcomed. It was 8:30 and no server has attended us. I had to approach TWO separate people in order to get a server. The hostess approached server Yeny and told her to take the table. We were highly profiled due to our appearance. We were given a Hispanic server assuming We did not speak English. We were very disappointed with the people here in Cracker Barrel except for the Server. Without hesitation Yeny attended us politely and put in our order. She was GREAT. There was lack of communication from FOUR different hostess. After eating, I spoke with the manager who understood my frustration and made up for the inconvenience. Given that, it does not replace the treatment we received when initially arriving. We were belittled and profiled with workers there. Rating this place a two because at least they had one GREAT server. If not, the rating would have been a zero. read more

Love this place. Prices are great, the food is good and the waitress we had was super nice! My favorite is Uncle Herschel's special, fried catfish, grits, sausage gravy and biscuits, hashbrown casserole and two eggs however you like them. All for around 7 bucks. My kids love the chicken and dumplings and my hubby loves the reuben with a side of pancakes. They can be a bit stingy with the syrup but all you have to do is ask for more. This CB is just like any other, super busy, but they can get you in and out quick. My husband had the biscuits and gravy and I had the country fried steak. My hubby wasn't too happy to see his plate not covered with some small biscuits and his eggs and sausage. He had been craving this kind of breakfast for a week now - I should have just made it myself. The country fried steak, on the other hand, is too involved for me to make at home, so I was satisfied with what I got. The biscuits do seem a lot smaller than they used to be and the corn muffin was on the dry side. No matter what, I'll always be a fan of the Cracker Barrel. My favorite place for a heavy breakfast/brunch. This place has the best pancakes in the world. I usually get the country fried steak which comes with hash brown casserole, eggs and grits. I am personally not a fan of grits, but the rest is delicious! Their hash brown casserole is a cheesy mix that goes perfectly with the country fried steak (gravy on top) and pancakes with maple syrup. The only downside to this place is it is always crowded. Try to arrive early on the weekends but it is usually a 30 minute wait at LEAST. But the food is worth it! And they have a shop to keep you busy. They sell everything from cooking ware, to clothing, beauty products and baby toys! Everything is also reasonably priced ($8-12) range per person. read more

Good food. Great service. I think little country side restaurants always have the best service, well, unless you have a little raging server, then GTFO of there. When you enter, there is a store upfront. You can do a little shopping before having your meal. They have everything. From clothes, to kitchen ware, to syrups to household interior and exterior items. To get to the restaurant you have to walk all the way to the back then make a left. The hostess is there behind the stand waiting for you, not in a creepy way of course. Anyways, when you enter the restaurant you just get the country feel. The decor is very cute and very much country. On each table there are play pegs you can play with and entertain yourself while waiting for the server and the food. For the food: I had rainbow trout and it was delish. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. The dish came with 3 veggie dish - they had a wide selection of veggies, but for the certain dish I got, you were to choose three. The three veggies I had were: 1) salad - not too fresh so I didn't finish it, 2) dumplins - yes dumplins, not dumplings; also it wasn't a veggie, it was dough and starch, so not sure why it was one of the options, 3) steamed broccoli - it was steamed just right, got that crunch in there! Overall the meal was yummy. Service was spot on, expect for the server giving us the bill too early. I know they always say, "no rush, take your time", but I think it is kind of meh to leave the bill that early. We weren't even done with our plates, we could have wanted dessert, who knows! Overall service was great. The server kept checking up on us. She was on point with drinks. She - Tiffany - was great. Also the checkout staff was very lovely. When people ask me what i'm craving for i simply say, "Cracker Barrel's dumplings!" Yeah i know this place is definitely not your average restaurant but that's what makes it have a ring to their name. It's usually known for being located off the highway for truckers but it also has a very old country feel to things. Upon entering this place you actually enter their store. Very cute. It has things you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. The cool knick knacks can keep you company as you wait for your table. When seated your server should usually come around with their homemade biscuits and cornbread. Biscuits i can live without but the cornbreads really good. I ALWAYS get the Lemon Pepper Trout accompanied by three sides which include; double Dumplings and Mac and Cheese. My friends always make fun of me from how much color my plate lacks and all the carbs it contains. But that's why i drive 30 minutes to this place. Cause it's usually what i never get to have all the time. I never have room for dessert so i can't really comment on that. My friends orders are usually scattered around the menu but they seem to always be happy with their meal. I know it's nothing 5 stars. But i gave it a 3 because of the down home meal i get for such a good bargain. It really is fat fat fat but personally, it's okay to give in to your cravings here and there.
