Stopped in for breakfast while traveling and it was mostly good. The catfish was not cooked or seasoned well but otherwise decent breakfast.

Let me start off by saying I looooooove Cracker Barrel! Usually there is a wait but not yesterday...came right in and was immediately seated, SCORE! Our waitress was Kim who immediately took our drink orders, water because I'm trying to stay away from sugary drinks it I really wanted to try the blackberry iced tea. After giving us a few minutes to peruse the new summer menu we all ordered the shrimp platter (see pic below). The shrimp were not over fried. The French fries had a good softness to crunch ratio. The green beans had awesome flavor. I always gotta have biscuits w/ apple butter. I don't know what it is about the biscuits & apple butter but it ain't nothing but love. Guys, you gotta try the new summer dessert, The general store is where you can find some cute bargains from candy to your favorite sports team apparel (depending on the area & demand).

My sister and I went to lunch to try their Fall menu. At our location in Southpoint, we were happy to see the interior and exterior remain the same, unlike most locations that were subject to change drastically. During our visit, we ordered 4 items: 1) Grandpa's Breakfast 2) Butter Pecan Sticky Buns 3) Sausage and Egg Hashbrown Casserole 4) Butter Pecan French Toast Bake. The butter pecan sticky buns arrive to the table in a small cast iron skillet. They were very moist, delicious and had just enough sweetness to your palate. I would definitely order it again. The sausage and egg casserole also came in a cast iron skillet. It was layered with gravy, fried onions, green chiles, smoked sausage, scrambled eggs, red peppers, melted cheese and hash browns. Surprisingly it was ridiculously delicious. The combination was incredibly intoxicating with flavors. On the grandpa's breakfast platter includes a choice of eggs, grits, choices of fried apples or hashbrown casserole and a choice of country fried steak or chicken tenders topped with their signature sawmill gravy. I chose the grits topped with cheese, chicken tenders and medium over eggs. I place the eggs on topped of the chicken and gravy just to utilize space. The chicken was juicy, tender and enough to satisfy your taste buds. Unfortunately our least favorite was their butter pecan French toast bake. When it arrived to the table, it is plated with the bake French toast which looks like baked bread pudding; choice of protein: bacon or sausage and butter pecan syrup. I taste the bake French toast on its own, it was dried. Even when I added the syrup, it was still dried. I selected the sausages which came in two but they look like Johnny cakes, very thin and that too was dried. Our server Ally (Alexandra Y) was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. If you want to try their Fall menu, y'all best hurry it ends on October 9th.

I am trying the hash brown casserole shepherds pie today. It was ok there is not much of anyone thing in it. The portion size on everyone's plates seemed like they were smaller. The service was pretty good. Not as bad as the last time I was here.

Hot chocolate. Ms. Vicky added a caramel drizzle and extra whip cream:-)

Had an EPIC experience visiting Cracker Barrel at 5200 Southpoint Parkway this morning. We were greeted by a smiling host and a lively server, Ms. Vicky. We were apprehensive about where we were seated but she told us we had the best seats in the building because she was going to take care of us, and she did just that. She made us feel like we were seated at her kitchen table. Our order came out fresh and hot. The food was exceptional and had all the comforts of home. On a cold day like today the rolling fireplace was the right touch. Midway through our meal Don, the manager stopped by to gauge our dinning experience. We gave Vicky rave reviews that were well deserved. He obliged us for a few minutes sharing his love for meeting new and welcoming new patrons, I could tell how passionate he is working in hospitality. I shared that I'm an Army veteran and he encouraged me to sign up for their rewards and I did. The cashier was also helpful when we paid our bill. But, Ms. Vicky even stopped by while we were paying to ensure that our time spent there was satisfactory. Wow, the customer service and dinning experience there was through the roof! I travel the 95 South corridor a lot for business as a private chef caterer and to know that I've been missing out on this gem. I'll be back soon, and I'll definitely look for Ms. Vicky and her wonderful personality. Chef Renee

I found 3 tiny pieces of egg shells in my egg sandwich. Food was delicious like it always is but wasn't happy when I felt my eggs "crunch".

Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. We'll be back soon to see Lashone!

It gets the job done for being a hotel and that's about all I can give it. Beware the parking experience is a little strange as it doesn't have a visitor lot and has to be valet so if you have a car be warned. The rooms are nothing fantastic, they feel very early 2000s which isn't bad but isn't great either. I feel the bathroom could use a remodel because the sink drains were clogged, and the bathroom felt very outdated. The room was spacious though with two queen beds, a chair and very cold A/C. It also had a nice tv in the room too. Beds also felt very comfortable which is nice for a hotel. I definitely would consider this hotel again now that my expectations are a little lower on what to expect. The hotel bar was always dead without anyone around, but the lobby in it of itself was very spacious and accommodating. I also really enjoyed how many things that were walkable around downtown Fredericksburg from the hotel. A ton of breweries, the river front, and restaurants were all within a mile to walk which made it a breeze. It's a very small town with not a lot going on during the week but it did the job.

On the other hand, there were several small things that needed maintenance (a small hole in a wall, some peeling wall paper, etc.) and you can hear everything going on in the hall. Also, the restaurant is okay. Their menu is a company-wide menu for Courtyard hotels. I had the loaded breakfast tots every morning. These are pretty good the first time, but after the third day I was kind of over it. Also, it cost extra to add scrambled eggs. Main complaint was that there were few gluten free options for me for breakfast. I would rather stay in an Air BnB.

Theres plenty of parking and they have a small area for outside seating. As you walked in, there's plenty of seating, they have an open kitchen concept, a side room for special events or meetings (25 people capacity) but it's their mission that caught my interest as cashier/ hostess Lexi explains to me. This company spreads and provides charity catering throughout the community with multiple outlets. Lexi was very patient as she explains how the menu works. I ordered 3 items: 1) Loaded baked potato 2) Fried fish 3) Chicken and waffles. I just wanted to taste the baked potato without any protein on top. I don't know what it was that had an off taste, maybe the butter. The potato itself was soft topped with cheese, green onions and a little bland. The chicken and waffle were tasty. The fried chicken wasn't as crispy as I would like it but it was well seasoned and the waffle was soft. There are so many options for your sides. So for the fried fish, the appearance looks delicious but it was very thin and dry. Even with the tartar sauce it was still dry. I was really looking forward to it. The sides I selected were fries and hope cakes (which are sweet corn bread). Their beverages are on point, I got their lemonade and sweet tea. Lexi was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant is only opened on Fridays-Sundays for regular business but since they do multiple catering events, they are open 7 days a week. They also offer Sunday brunch between the hours of 9a-3p which the entire dining room is open with mocktail and coffee station. There isn't a buffet during the brunch but a la carte off the menu. I would make a return visit to try their brunch menu in the near future.
